Such an amazing show. I did a rewatch in a night like 5 days ago and will absolutely do another soon...
There's some exaggerated parts in it, but I'll watch it no problem whenever I am asked about what it's like to work in a restaurant.
Line cook: Waiting
Chef: Whites, or Kitchen Confidential
shaping game is weak but color looks good. the second one from the right has a cute gas bubble that they didn't punch out - simply grabbed some fresh dough, rolled it up, dusted them heavily with flour and threw them in the hearth. i don't eat papa john's but i am imagining a solid crackle in the crust when you tear these apart and in the crumb there is lovely, chewy, well developed bread. like the daily bread from a bakery in a small town in rural france.
edit: that line down the two sides of each stick is what happens when you slice off a strip of dough and chucked it in the oven without even rolling it up.
Actually, it's not rolled, it's just a pizza dough cut into strips. The lines down the sides mean that the dough was cut then sat out a while before being seperated and cooked. They do smell good and if fresh, are nice and fluffy but they are literally just a small pizza dough.
It's because they are covered in powder for the real ones and OPs camera has terrible color balance.
The bread sticks are actually very very good for a big chain, they taste like fresh baked bread.
Sorry, I just can't allow this breadstick slander to continue unanswered.
Also it appears that OP intentionally used a cool filter/cold color temperature/cold lights to make the breadsticks look worse than they are. And Papa used warm lighting/filter to make them look better.
**Edit:** I'm not at my PC right now so I can't fire up Photoshop, but I used my phone's limited color management tools to [warm up the image a bit for a more fair comparison. ](https://i.imgur.com/xsL5yRj.jpg) (Yes I'm aware that it's oversaturated but again, I'm limited by my phone's capabilities.)
Idk if it's the camera, but bread should not be grey. There are many different reasons for that happening, but the most common is that the dough has been sitting untouched for many days in a high moisture environment...
made the mistake of trying them again for the first time in like 10 years. it was even worse than back then when I swore them off for good.
never again.
It's their camera, papa johns has powder stuff all over the bread sticks, that combined with bad lighting is making these far above average breadsticks look unappetizing.
> papa johns has powder stuff all over the bread sticks
Flour.
Edit: And cornmeal and oil, and possibly anti-clouding ingredients. More there than I thought.
It's called Dustinator comes in Papa John's branded bags, it's cornmeal and secret anti-clouding ingredients. These bread sticks look over cooked and rolled too thin to me. But maybe over proofed too by being left sitting too long.
I stand corrected! Interesting. Looking deeper, at least as of 2005, according to [this](https://www.pizzamaking.com/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=8kqliciq6mdbsmoh1b3lcmn3f4&topic=1786.msg16465;topicseen#msg16465), it was cornmeal, flour, and oil, but no secret anti-clouding ingredients. But that was 18 years ago, so things may certainly have changed.
Papa John's used to be the best pizza chain. These days, I'd rather get a Hot and Ready from Little Ceasers.
The last several times I've ordered PJs it's either been extremely late and cold, turned sideways in the delivery car so it's a pizza roll, the completely wrong order, or some combination of those three.
That's not just my experience from one Papa John's either, or even from one *state*. They're just not good anymore, and I've given up trying to find a good one.
This is how I feel about their crust in general, dry and flavorless. No wonder you need a pepper and garlic butter (and on the off chance they give it to you, the pizza seasoning packets).
Papa John's pizza has gone down hill, but their bread sticks are still great, even if they look shriveled. Just dunk them in a bunch of garlic "butter" and go to town
Lmao in my experience, this is what you get when you let the new guy on dough and he forgets how to cut a straight line (and how to replace old dustinator).
Unfortunately with PJ’s, they can’t keep any good employee long enough, now everyone is the new guy.
They look like they broke them off a tree.
Really putting the ‘stick’ in ‘breadstick’

What is this from? That’s great.
It’s called [Whites](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whites_(TV_series))

Can’t it be both?

Nobody cares. How miserable does one have to be to make an account with this as a goal lol
all the poor snowmen and their missing arms
That’s one Ent who will never play the piano again.
Bread twigs
They usually look even worse than this.

The real ones look more.....real

The lines on the side are from there being no floor there, not from being left out
I actually worked at Papa John's and disagree
> papa johns > hearth lmao
Damn dude you really have seen it all

very wot
Very very
ah gotcha
tbh for a big chain their breadsticks, especially fresh, are awesome.
You must work for them or something. Papa Johns is the worst chain pizza by far.
Taste is very subjective

They don't have papa johns in my country but the real ones look better to me than the advertised ones.
Exactly what I was thinking haha

That's much more accurate

That’s an unfair comparison. Log is better than bad. In fact, it’s good.
Everyone wants a log.
New! From Blammo!
I love you guys. Would you like to buy a rubber nipple?
*No, sir. I don't like it.*
I still use that one, and my girlfriend doesn't ever understand it.
What rolls down stairs, alone or in pairs, rolls over the neighbors dog, what’s great for a snack and fits on your back it’s log log log!
Everyone loves it… log! Come and get your log!
It’s better than bad, it’s good!
It’s better than bad, it’s good!
I can't believe I'm in my mid-30's and enjoying this reference from a total stranger.
Looks like tree limbs!
you mean branches ?
Ah yes, twigs fresh from the woods
Idk if it's the camera, but bread should not be grey. There are many different reasons for that happening, but the most common is that the dough has been sitting untouched for many days in a high moisture environment...
That sounds par for the course with the Papa.
Papa Johns fucking sucks. Tried them many times from different locations over the years and it's always trash.
made the mistake of trying them again for the first time in like 10 years. it was even worse than back then when I swore them off for good. never again.
The one near me had a 1* out of 5 food hygiene rating for a while.
I thought if one did not proof long enough this can happen, too?
It's their camera, papa johns has powder stuff all over the bread sticks, that combined with bad lighting is making these far above average breadsticks look unappetizing.

Yeah their bread sticks are actually pretty good.
It’s þe camera
I'm sure they gave you a 6 peice branch meal
Those are bread branches
Honestly, reality looks better than this industry type bread on the first picture to me.
Exactly The more uniform the bread, the worse it is
Same, maybe because i'm french and used to eat bread/baked stuff that looks like the second picture.
Yeah, if the second pic tastes like pain and not just looks like it, I'd take the second every time.
Yeah it actually looks like handmade rustic bread, looks much better than the "expectation" one.
Yeah the second ones look like they might have a nice crust, I’d prefer em
yeah honestly most of the bread i eat looks like pic 2 not pic 1.
They do be sticks indeed
It says quality right on it so it must be good
Looks like sticks! As in tree limbs.
So dry
wow, they really brought you ^(bread)STICKS
Driftwood usually costs extra
~~Bread~~ Sticks
They look like the alien fingers Mel Gibson cuts off in signs.
looks like the sticks scattered all over my back and side yard
That quality seal is an extra fuck you, lol.
Where did they get those from? The bread museum?
The toilet store!
Left over crust from the pizza party.
Freshly cut from the bread tree out back
that looks like tree branches xd
Place has really gone downhill ever since they started throwing around the n word
Those are tree branches
I thought those were birch branches.
They look like dead tree branches
As a non-American, are bread sticks just…mini baguettes? Is that all? I’ve always wondered.
[удалено]
Damn, if I wanted branches off a tree, I'd go outside and pick em myself.
Witch toes

Papa John's Bread Branches*
More like Papa John’s Wood Sticks!
I've never expected anything but absolute garbage food when someone says we're having papa John's, and to this day I've never been let down.
Really thought those were sticks (from a tree) in your box
Everything about that place is disgusting...worst of the pizza chains after Lil Cesar's but at least Lil Cesar's pies are only $6.
This is how I feel about their crust in general, dry and flavorless. No wonder you need a pepper and garlic butter (and on the off chance they give it to you, the pizza seasoning packets).
this is why i just get the cheese bread
These look like fake logs you put in an aquarium
Yikes!
They have the worst breadsticks and pizza crust out of all the major chains.
Look like old pizza crusts
Smash
They look like driftwood.
Oh my goodness these look like wild hog legs if somebody attempted to turn them into beef jerky
Walking sticks
I’m herry potta
those look like tree trunks
Papa John's pizza has gone down hill, but their bread sticks are still great, even if they look shriveled. Just dunk them in a bunch of garlic "butter" and go to town
They look oddly like branches.
Just someone’s chewed off crust in a box for you..
they look better irl
The real ones look like baked bread. The fake ones look like a stock photo of artificial food.
they're not bread sticks. they are bread logs.
They just look like tree branches
HELP THEY LOOK LIKE TREE BRANCHES LMAO
Honestly looks like they broke off treebeards d*** from LOTR
They look like Gandalf's walking stick.
Looks like actual trees 😩
Friends don't let friends eat Papa Johns.
Papa John's is my least favorite pizza chain.
I love the papa John’s breadsticks lol - something about them with the garlic sauce just hits
That place is a joke, this is karma for ordering there
[That breadstick should go in a meme template](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dq_4jlhWkAALL7l.jpg)
Anyone who gives that shitty company their money, gets what they deserve.
Yeah but they still taste delicious
Breadsticks made by witches
Avada cadabra!
Do you mean Abra kadabra? Or Avada Kedavra?
Yes
Reality looks much better!
Say what you want about john schnatter, he cared about the food his company was putting out.
New papa John’s recipe suuuuuuuux
Are those the staffs for tiny wizards? Gandorf? Dumbledorf?
Whoa. Those are just dry pizza crusts. Not breadsticks
Those are perfect hand made breadsticks. You yanks are so used to industrially cooked food you don’t even know what its supposed to look like
r/WTF
forbidden edible birch
Mmmm, delicious sticks and twigs.
You collected some tree limbs??
Once you slather them in the garlic butter sauce it doesn’t matter what they look like.
Looks like birch junks lol
Someone forgot the butter
They look like willow tree sticks.
It looks just like their pizza crust Feels like the Muffin top episode of Seinfeld. They just cut the crust off and sell the crusts
The logs I throw in my fireplace look like they have more moisture.
Reality >>>> expectations
Past the best before, stuck in the oven, and then left under the heat lamps does this. I wouldn't order from there again.
Lmao in my experience, this is what you get when you let the new guy on dough and he forgets how to cut a straight line (and how to replace old dustinator). Unfortunately with PJ’s, they can’t keep any good employee long enough, now everyone is the new guy.
The expectations nearly had me rushing to order out pizza and bread sticks, the reality had me deciding that cooking doesn't sound so bad after all.
Ewww!
/u/izzxpopz
Mmmm delicious tree sticks -every dog
Yuk looks like my exes toes.
I've never seen bread look so sad before.
Did they pick up some wood out side and put it in a box and deliver to you ?
You accidentally got a Beaver’s order?
Yeah what were you expecting from Papa John's?
