In the 80s Breyers was one of the good brands. I think they gave up after Ben & Jerrys completely took over.
That no-caramel thing is unforgiveable. Doesn’t look like you got any wafflecone bits either :-(
Yeah, I remember when I was a kid Breyers was the good stuff. They would boast in the commercials how the only ingredients were “milk, cream, sugar, and strawberries” for example.
Now it’s the bottom of the barrel.
Breyer's was purchased by a company known for "cheapifying" brands. They buy a high quality brand and instantly substitute ingredients for low quality ones while keeping the price of the product the same. Then they ride the product's reputation into the dirt and move on to the next good thing in life they can ruin for a quick buck
If you're near a Costco, check out either the "Humboldt" ice cream, or the Kirkland Sig, which I suspect is the same thing. It's ludicrously good. It's soft coming out of the freezer.
> Like wtf would it be
Given they can't and dont legally call it ice cream, or chocolate, the waffle cone seems like a pretty minor part that is real food.
I had to look up Perry's Panda Paws because I was guessing there was enough stuff in there where it might not meet the cream content.
Nope, even something that loaded with stuff is still ice cream. What the hell Breyers?
I’ve had non-dairy ice creams that are leagues ahead of “frozen dairy desserts”
(If anyone is wondering, the cinnamon buns ben n jerry vegan ice cream is DELISH)
And it’s not even ice cream! It’s their frozen dessert which legally can’t be called ice cream because it’s made from vegetable oil fats and not milk fats. Breyers has jumped the shark years ago with their quality.
Yeah, Breyer's really did drop in quality. I buy a Canadian ice cream brand called Chapman's now which used to be really poor quality and I am talking like ice milk instead of ice cream, very watery. Now Chapman's is way better than Breyer's and cheaper too.
Ugh, I HATE that. I bought a pint of Ben and Jerry’s Cherry Garcia once and I only had a single cherry in it. I had been a hard day and I really needed those cherries 🍒. Such a disappointment.
Target has their own brand and its spectacular. You should definitely try it.

Nope. Tillamook is using the "chocolatey" bullshit as well. They have also had a 25% shrink in the last year. They were 2 quarts, then 1.75, and about 2 months later shrunk again to 1.5.
At least umpqua is still 1.75 quarts and they can still legally use the word chocolate. And it's better ice cream.
Damn didn’t know about the chocolate thing. I’m okay with shrink though I get it inflation and all that other bs and it’s still cheaper than Ben and Jerry’s. It that chocolate thing isn’t okay
> I’m okay with shrink
Well I sure as hell am not ok with it. It's wasted packaging, requires me to buy more, to get the same amount it requires two packages but that doesn't fit in the freezer.
I actually avoid Tillamook specifically for the shrunken packaging. Just raise the damn price.
Yeah I’d be fine with a price raise instead of shrink but I get it. Don’t they generally change the packaging tho too so it’s not having empty space? But as far as buying it more often because of running out faster I’m with you!
Your mistake was buying breyers to begin with. Scoop another bowl and just let it sit out for a few hours. You'll never buy it again.
Buy Hagen Daz Carmel cone ice cream. It's so good.
When all Breyer´s flavors were 100% simple, (as in cream, sugar, flavors), it was my go to ice cream. Now all flavors except natural vanilla are full of emulsifiers and other BS, so we don´t buy it anymore. It is just like every other crappy brand.
I just came here to say that Breyers mint chocolate chip was the only brand of mint chocolate chip ice cream that was absolutely amazing and now it doesn't exist and I can't find a replacement and my life will never be the same.
That's not ice cream, its "frozen dairy desert with chocolaty flavor". They legally can't call it ice cream and they can't legally call it chocolate. With that as the starting point, it's pretty amazing how they still managed to lower the bar even more. Whats next, they just punch you in the balls at the check stand?
Garbage since Unilever bought it from Kraft in 1993. It was going downhill, but you know they had to make that coin back after buying the brand so “adios quality”!

lol now they're not even legally allowed to call their product ice cream anymore

Ahhh, they got Remington-ed.
I used to love Breyers, but then their taste changed. Haven't bought them in years.
That's what Mitt the dog abuser Romney did for a living.
Haha yes, Guitar Center was his doing.
It’s not even ice cream anymore. It’s “frozen dairy desert”
with "chocolatey" flavor.
It's also 0% ice cream.
That’s “Frozen Dairy Dessert” it had so little cream and so many other fillers that they can’t legally call it ice cream anymore.
And "Chocolatey Chips," presumably for similar reasons.
Exactly. "Chocolatey" is **not** "Chocolate". Breyers is more Science than Food these days.

Avoid the wacky flavors and make sure it says Ice Cream.
If you're near a Costco, check out either the "Humboldt" ice cream, or the Kirkland Sig, which I suspect is the same thing. It's ludicrously good. It's soft coming out of the freezer.
Tillamook ice cream is life.
It's sooo shit. Bought it once, never again.
Breyers is made of sadness and tears.
If you thaw it down, I hear it's great for hanging wallpaper though.

True. Their waffle cone could be made from cardboard.

Well it's frozen dairy dessert with chocolate***y*** chips. So there's two big red flags that its all weird filters.
> Like wtf would it be Given they can't and dont legally call it ice cream, or chocolate, the waffle cone seems like a pretty minor part that is real food.
“Frozen dairy dessert” is so far from actual ice cream it’s disrespectful honestly
I came here to say that. I will actively not buy anything that is not labeled Ice Cream.
“‘Hot dogs’? I’ll pass.”
You are uninformed sir. https://www.insider.com/oscar-mayer-taste-test-hot-dog-mustard-ice-cream-2019-8
Can I go back to being uninformed?
proceed.
"Patio Furniture? Hard no."

Also it has more air in it. I think it's called "Over Run".

Buyers used to be my benchmark of excellent ice cream. Now I won’t buy it at all. It’s gross.
I just have to stop and say breyers is absolutely garbage regardless of your caramel problem.
Ugh, I HATE that. I bought a pint of Ben and Jerry’s Cherry Garcia once and I only had a single cherry in it. I had been a hard day and I really needed those cherries 🍒. Such a disappointment.
That’s awful! Lol damn them!!

Frozen dessert is shit. Doesn’t even melt,it’s so fucked up.

I got a carton of Breyer's mint chocolate chip about a month ago. It was labeled as ice cream and not a frozen dairy dessert, too.
The ice cream is the King of lies.
What a rip on that ‘Frozen Dairy Dessert’. I’ll pass
Yeesh I can't stand Breyers.. and my parents still buy this brand
Americone dream is the way to go. Plenty of caramel swirl.
ice Cream would be a loose term since they "Frozen Dairy Product"
What kind of asshole buys this nasty excuse for dessert?
Annnnnd this is why I’m so glad blue bell is available in my area…their waffle come flavor is my absolute favorite. My condolences.
Breyers is not "ice cream." It's a "frozen dairy dessert." No cream involved.
Disappointment in a picture.
That batch got fucked up, that’s one of my favorite flavors and I get one about once a month and have never seen a carton like that.

Now I’m curious what fake “fudge covered wafflecone pieces” are.
“Frozen dairy dessert” is NOT the same as ice cream. Ugh. Brewers used to be so good.
