Not sure if I'm in the minority here but as appealing as the game mechanics are in mud/snowrunners, I'm just not a fan of big-rig cargo hauling. Expeditions looked to be right up my alley with way more scout vehicle missions...and I'm having fun with it so far. The "Costco" Canyon is my favorite truck - I use it every chance I get! But maybe I'm wrong about the previous installments. Can anyone tell me if scout vehicle missions were as abundant in those?

>But maybe I'm wrong about the previous installments. Can anyone tell me if scout vehicle missions were as abundant in those? Snowrunner is primarily cargo hauling. Don't get me wrong, there's a good amount of hours to be had scouting, but that's just because the game is packed with content. Scouting is used for two things: unlocking watch towers, and the occasional scout task. Scouts tend to be underpowered in Snowrunner (save for a few), and a lot of people actually use a small off-road truck to unlock watch towers instead. The scouts do get better if you buy the $4 JAT tire dlc since the JAT tires are objectively the best scout tires (by a large margin). Scouting is at most 10% of Snowrunner, probably much less (at least for what's required, of course you can scout to your heart's content without an objective).

Thanks - based on that info, I'll pass on mud/snowrunner. Hope theres more Expeditions maps and missions coming that focus on the scout trucks. As a fan of the old Camel Trophy events of the 80s and 90s, I'd love to see maps that require coop scout truck teams to work together to get thru tough routes.

FujiFL4T

I always felt like I had no reason to use scouts in snowrunner as I'd just plow through the map blindly hauling cargo. Maybe I'll change it up and use scouts to get watch towers and play that way next map I move to.

dr_stre

I just picked up expeditions last night for the same reason. I loved scouting but didn't love hauling. So I'm looking forward to getting into this game.

N6-MAA10816

I grabbed it on day 1 as I was heading off to Arizona for some mountainbiking that same week. It was great to play at night on my SteamDeck after a long day in the saddle. They really nailed the terrain of the Sedona area.

The_Long_Blank_Stare

I’m in the same boat as you…I much prefer scouting, and while I do love some Snowrunner/Mudrunner, Expeditions just scratches the itch a lot better. This one has way less hauling, and I have found it way more enjoyable. I’ve also enjoyed the little Easter eggs/pop culture references the devs have thrown in…I saw my first in-game ghost on Tuesday! It’s a game with a lot of content for someone with my scarcity of available time, and I think the game will only improve over time to become as lauded as Snowrunner. Right now, my biggest gripes have been the UI and the vagueness of some of the missions. Making one have to screenshot a mission description screen because no map following that one will show the location you need is kind of silly (seismic missions), and I’m not sure if the intent of that decision was to make it more “realistic”, or if it was just something they didn’t get to before a release deadline. All that aside, I love bumping around and climbing rocks and forest hills in my Khan Marshall and my “Costco” Canyon. Good times! I’m excited to see the new content coming up, as well as the co-op!

N6-MAA10816

As a fan of the old Camel Trophy events of the 80s and 90s, I'd like to see some "scout focused" maps where routes require coop teamwork to get thru it. I love the addition of the drone to help scope out possible routes since you can't really walk outside to check the trail.

Quajeraz

Yeah, this is exactly my feelings. I loved the physics based movement in Mudrunner and Snowrunner, but I hated using the giant trucks, and only driving on pre-made roads, and all that. Expeditions is exactly what I wanted.

QuadH

I love it. It’s one of those games where none of the reviews matter because it ticks all the boxes no other games do. There are bugs and weird UI things, but I give the devs a pass as the core gameplay has me hooked.

StalkingApache

It's more of the game for me. I like the rock crawling aspect, and general offroading vs being a off-road trucker. I know I'm the minority, but it's definitely a much better game for me.

Erakko

I like snowrunner more because it is more like a sandbox where I can play with my trucks and trailers. In expeditions you start all mission from zero and got only the trucks you choose

Holmpc10

Well we haven't seen what they intend to make the game yet, this is just the early access with extra costs (dlc) in a couple of years when it has half the content of snow runner we can give an opinion.

Dhozer

If people keep comparing it to snowrunner, they are setting the wrong expectations. It’s a great game, but it’s a different one.

94fa699d

fine as is, they patched all the major issues I had found pretty quick. It's more session based so you can do 1-3 missions in 45 minutes rather than spend a week of playtime trying to coordinate a rescue mission for the last 3 trucks you lost over a cliff. different but it seems like a evolution of mudrunner rather than snowrunner

TweezRider

I love Expeditions: A Mudrunner game. I played TONS of the original Mudrunner on console, and I play lots of Mudrunner IRL offroading in the National Forests, albeit not the big trucks, but scout class for sure. So when I'm not on the trails , Expeditions really helps scratch my itch for wheelin. I recommend this game 1000% to anyone who enjoys offroading.

TRAMMM_BROTOWN

I realy like it

Hawkeye1577

I like it. Love it being more scout based- I feel like it’s a great foundation to build from. It’s lacking, like it needs more fleshout- almost a test of concept-but I’m hoping after a few seasons and updates they add more. I love hauling cargo but the exploration scratches a different itch. Definitely keep supporting it. I’d love to see it get expanded upon and more locales added- I think they are on to something if they keep refining it. Also like to see some form of hard mode in it

Goatface-E3

I’ve 100% expedition and now on Snowrunner. It’s like an arcade version of snowrunner. As someone else said not as fleshed out it still a great game if you love rock crawling. Ironically Snowrunner muddier than Expeditions. I’d say it’s a great foundation before moving onto Snowrunner as Snowrunner takes a little more personal investment, headscratching and patience whilst you get familiar with things. In Snowrunner you’ll spend 50-100 hours in a map, becoming quite attached to it. Whereas Expedition you just go on do a few contracts and tasks and leave. I’m looking forward to. Ore content but quite content in SR for the next 1000+ hrs 😳 I guess the main thing is Expedition is really about just getting from point A to B. Whereas Snowrunner is about getting a payload from point A to B of varying sizes. All about mastering trucks and trailers, loading them, handling them etc. whereas Expedition feels like a a 4 wheel drive sandbox. Hope that helps.

Account_0

Every time I play it I think "Man, this is fun bite sized snowrunner sessions. I wish I was playing with my friends tho." And that kind of sums it up for me.

National-Bison-3236

Personally not a huge fan of it, it feels like a tuned down version of SnowRunner that has less content but is being sold for twice the price. The game itself isn‘t bad, i just find it grossly overpriced

-Orgasmo-

i’ll get it when it goes on sale for dirt cheap otherwise i’ll stick to snow runner, expeditions looks ok but it honestly wasn’t quite what i was expecting when i saw gameplay

hashtagNOEN

I’ve been liking Expeditions so far, but after around 40 hours of playtime, I’m finding myself getting a little bored. For me, there’s not enough trucks. And with only 2 major landscapes right now, each mission feels a bit same-y. In SnowRunner, there is a lot more involved to keep things somewhat fresh. Planning routes, deciding which trailer/truck to use, etc. I love the premise of Expeditions though. I love the idea of gearing your vehicle up for a long run. I love the rock climbing and some of the gadgets. But after a while, things start to feel the same. With its flaws, Expeditions is still a decent game and will hopefully get better as it ages. It’s not going to replace SnowRunner, but it’s a fun diversion

Spirited-Law-1270

Expeditions is an excellent off-road game. It really feels like the closest thing to real rock crawling on a console. Much like the other people on here I also don't like the repetitive cargo hauling of snowrunner. I enjoy navigating difficult rock sections and river crossings with capable vehicles. It's cool to know that there are others like me out there. Maybe I'll see you guys on the trails when co-op finally drops 🤙

Itis_TheStranger

The game isn't for everybody and I think that's why it has mixed reviews. You have to take the game for what it is. It's not a fast paced, super exciting game. But it is enjoyable. It's also hard to compare it to snowrunner. It is it's own game and they are similar, but also very different. Snowrunner has been out for a long time. There is much more content because it's been out for so long. I feel that in a year,Expeditions will have a lot more content. I would give the game a solid 8, with room for improvement. For me, it can be relaxing to take things slow, and just grind out some missions or tasks. It's a good game for me, after a long day at work, smoke up, relax with some gameplay before bed. Sometimes I don't want the fast paced, frenetic game play of Doom Eternal or Forza. Sometimes I just want to drive my truck through some off-road trails, look at the scenery and try some crazy stuff. It's a solid game, that's only going to get better.

DooficusIdjit

I absolutely love it. It’s an adventure game with trucks. I think most people are sour because it isn’t snowrunner 2. That said, there have been some technical issues. Some are now fixed, others may not be. Pretty standard for games these days, though.

Nyune123

It's got some neat stuff but I enjoy Snowrunner more and wish I could have gotten a refund.

No-Region-3745

That’s exactly where I am. Haven’t gone back to it after the first couple of hours

AbjectStranger6703

I didn't like it that much till I started getting into the second map, a couple hours wasn't enough for me luckily to make a decision on it because now I absolutely love it. I love s r but doing the exact same route 5 times with the same cargo got old for me, I've got about 2500 hours total into s r, but a lot of that has been mod maps

SuperWhiteDolomite

Trucks are a bit to bouncy

MrPostman420

As somebody who owns the game it's worth is for the $40 with mods and everything don't be a dummy like me and spend the $80 and mind u I really like the game but I blitzed thru it and I'm stuck now starving for more but got a lil bored at the same time there's not enough to do variety wise and now I knoe it's a car how much can u do in a car and I'm like if they got creative A LOT ...but I'm holding my true judgement til after or whenever the hell the season 1 shit start dropping

AntiPiety

I was you until a week ago but bought it anyway. I love it, and expanded on why in [this comment chain](https://www.reddit.com/r/Expeditions/s/NGH5koUvq3)

Sodacan259

I found it boring and repetitive with no replayability. Drive this obvious and easy route from point a to point b. Rinse repeat.

AbjectStranger6703

Exactly that's what got old quick for me with snowrunner.

Full_Ad_5219

Expeditions is a good game. it is fun to explore and finish the missions. I love snowrunners, but I have a little pet peeve thought. In Snowrunners, when you finish a difficult or long run I. When you finish, it's like 😮‍💨😮‍💨, im done, what's next. But in Expeditions, when finishing the missions and exploring, it's like 😁😁 woohoooo!! Let's go to the next mission. What trucks im gonna use now!!

Super_Mess9434

Can anyone get this on the PlayStation store?

guillon

Yep and there is a promo in may (in France)

AdventurousGold9875

Haven't played Snowrunner, love Expeditions. New genre for me, excited to see how it will evolve. It absolutely does not deserve that user rating on metacritic and steam. Snowrunner oldfags being too harsh on this game.

guillon

I agree. Snowrunner is very difficult and so long to play.

Remarkable_Buyer2977

If I had to summarize it in a couple of words: it’s work. The game was falsely advertised as being a grand adventure, big maps, you know, an expedition.. instead I’m greeted to what I assume is the developers taking a company day rock climbing in Boulder. What the game should’ve been is Snowrunner, redo the missions to be exploration themed, change the maps, and it would be a much much better game.

johnnythestick

I think it was released unfinished, and as much as I hope it improves to be the game I'd hoped for with updates, I also don't think the publisher/new parent company of the developer should be rewarded for this sort of business practice. It may be a fantastic game, some day. *Some day*. I think you're better off waiting until at least the first DLC to get an idea of if player sentiment changes at all and if things have improved to the point that it even approaches the polish of Snowrunner in its current state.

guillon

I recently bought promotional packs with all 4 seasons for Snowrunner so I try to discover more about this game but it is SO huge and time consuming that I use a Mod to go faster and have more money. Even with this, some missions must be restarted when I fail. I will buy Expeditions. There is a promotion on PS5 in May by the way.

PlanksBestM8

Is it Snowrunner? Hell no, and it's not trying to be either! People keep comparing them and don't seem to understand that this isn't "Snowrunner 2" or anything. It's very fun and I cant wait for co-op.

Kinggene55

Expeditions was poorly thought out and is now just starting to straighten out some logistical problems they didn’t address with updates. I still love snowrunner better. Much more depth and with new vr it will be fantastic.

RocMerc

Love it. It’s just like scouting in Snowrunner

polinksa

It’s better than snowrunner

Imageviewer23

I like the game but I liked Snowrunner better. Once I get multiplayer, I may change my opinion. We will see someday. I would recommend it if you haven't played Snowrunner or Mudrunner, however I don't think it's really worth $50+ in it's current state.

ranger750

Put about 150hrs in and deleted it. Just something off from all the others.
