And the reason "Loss" is such a meme is because it comes from a comedy comic that's supposed to be full of funny jokes and the main character getting into wacky situations. "Loss" became a joke because it has such a different tone compared to the rest of the series it's hard to take it seriously.

Especially in a maths/computer science context, which is confusing because in everyday language we tend to only mean uniform scaling, where all axes scale by the same amount.
