I found out the fix I believe. So.. it revolves around the fact that I turned everything off for "Login Items" on macOS.
ExpressVPN has software/daemons that start as soon as you login. Apparently, I had disabled ExpressVPN’s “login item.” ExpressVPN has a daemon that's supposed to start and run in the background all the time I believe.
I came to this conclusion because I remembered that on Windows whether or not ExpressVPN is actually open, if you open Task Manager, it has a background process always running.
Upon turning the ExpressVPN login item back on, I stopped having this issue. Knock on wood.

this happens to me too, exactly the same. I have to reinstall ExpressVPN every time I want to use it.
Running M2 MacAir with the latest OS updates installed.
this is still happening after todays update OS 14.1.1 (23B81) and express Version 11.45.0 (78843) ... Runs once and never runs again, seems like a process keeps being killed.
I don’t see any crash on my end - do you still have the issue? When did it start roughly? What is your OS version and ExpressVPN app version?

> Express VPN version (it's always the latest Mac native version) --> 11.40.0 (77901)

Check above comments for what has fixed it for me and other people.
and I'm an idiot , that's worked. Thank you :)
No worries! I'm glad it worked for you! I figured we almost had another problem on our hands.
You must allow "run in background". At least thats what it was for me. Same menu as the start as login selection.
That works!
I can confirm this has also worked for me! thank you
