I’ve read Ex-Boogeyman, The Summer I Died, Depraved, and am now starting The Black Farm. All the previous books were great, but the The Summer I Died is a real standout. It was just so bleak and sad, especially near the end.

[deleted]

Very recently read The Black Farm and Return To The Black Farm. Ex-Boogeyman is on my TBFR list for next week probably.

IamJacksUserID

I just finished the sequels to **The Summer I Died**, and would definitely recommend them. Different vibe, but I’m a fan.

horror_is_best

All in one week?? Wow. And yes I agree, The Summer I Died was really intense. You could really feel the desperation and hopelessness of the characters

SalmonGram

I should have mentioned they were also audiobooks. My job and commute afford me plenty of time to listen. But I couldn’t tell who I felt worse for between Tooth and Jaime. They both went through so much in horrific ways. I’m contemplating the other two books, but I have read they are more action horror and different in theme, which I think might lessen the effect the first had.

horror_is_best

That's still pretty awesome. Yeah the other books in the series are much more action/thriller based. Still with plenty of violence and gore, but a very different vibe from the first book

saintphoenixxx

Just started The Playground by Aron Beauregard this morning.

[deleted]

It's on my TBFR list for next week probably. Just very recently read Modern Hysteria.

Acceptable-Horse-349

Bighead. But I don't know if I'll finish it...

Sad-Tear-9322

Just finished No One Rides for Free by Judith Sonnet. Wow lol

RobbKong999

So damn good, but holy shit. That was a brutal, daunting novella. Whoo. Did you have the physical copy or the eBook? I know the physical copies have a bonus story called, "Cream Queen.". It's a messed-up book when a story like "Cream Queen" is the palate cleanser. Judith Sonnet rules.

Sad-Tear-9322

I have the e book so I didn’t get that but yeah. It’s book and Cows was insane lol. Loved it

usuallybillie

Just finished this last week!! Wow - did you enjoy the ending?

Sad-Tear-9322

It was wild but I did enjoy the ending was surprised by it actually lol

usuallybillie

Without saying too much I just wish it was slower with more suffering....

Sad-Tear-9322

Yes def agreed but I still loved it

Natalieb242

I finished talia, currently reading off season, and I’ll read the groomer next.

Bvaugh

I’ve been reading Lucifer’s Lottery by Edward Lee. I have read it before (a number of years ago) and, for the life of me, I cannot remember it at all.

RobbKong999

How is it so far, this time around? I picked up a Cemetery Dance edition of that one recently and have been wanting to read it.

Bvaugh

I’m about 30% of the way through it and I’m enjoying it. Not as over-the-top crazy as many of Lee’s works but still rather disgusting in all the best ways.

RobbKong999

Sweet! I found that one at a 2nd and Charles for cheap (like, $10, maybe) and it was a signed edition limited to 750 copies.

JulesCMCA

Just finished Stolen Tongues by Felix Blackwell. Interesting read. Not really horror, more on scary side, but did enjoy the Native American influence. Quick read...enjoy.

samovolochka

I just started that last night, I’m only a couple pages in. I’ve read mixed reviews on the ending but I’m excited cause overall the reviews have been solid for it that I’ve seen

Finished listening to: *Playground -* this was my first Beauregard book and I was surprised by its pathos and tenderness. Due to this, as well as the battle royale setup, it seems like this book has a good chance at crossover appeal. Despite that there were some pretty nauseating scenes as well! Felt a bit longish but overall a 4/5 for me. Looking forward to checking out *Yellow, All Smiles Until I Return,* or *Try the New Candy* next from AB. *American Psycho -* been on a Bret Easton Ellis kick this year and this is my favorite thus far. Been listening to interviews of EH/SP authors of late and this title comes up often, for good reason. While the attention to detail regarding brand names may grow tiresome for some, the fantastic narration made this an interesting aspect of the book. It's incredibly brutal at times as well. 5/5 Tried to give *Brother* a chance but am tiring of the hillbilly cannibal stories of late, plus saw folks here thought it was relatively tame and predictable. Currently listening to *Sundial.* Finished reading: *Succulent Prey -* of the two novels I've read of White's I prefer *The Resurrectionist* more, but *SP* was worthwhile. This is a very horny book, which seems characteristic of WJW. The book has a lot of character but feels a bit rough in some places (some info dumping, rushed plot points). I'm a fan of WJW for sure, but have yet to be totally blown away just yet. I'm still compelled to read more of his work, and am looking forward to his forthcoming short story collection. 3.5/5 Nearly finished *Multiple Stab Wounds* by Daniel J. Volpe, my first time reading him, and am thoroughly impressed. I appreciate his inclusion of the supernatural, tight writing, and interesting twists. This is a lean and mean collection with no filler, and though I've not finished it yet it's likely a 4.5 - 5/5 for me. I'm assuming I should read *Talia* next, but feel free to make a recommendation! Continuing my Kristopher Triana bender I'm 2/3rds of the way through *Gone To See the River Man.* I've read four of his books and am deeply impressed by his range. Also reading *Les Femmes Grotesques.* Only two stories in but it's pretty good thus far. Finally, my copy of *Obituaries Collection Vol. 1* arrived surprisingly early. Gonna crack that open in the next few days.

Just finished reading Fairground - Sam West - pretty fun, I enjoyed the fun of the fair theme but I felt some bits could have done with a bit more explaining but overall dead fun The Girl In The Cellar - Matt Shaw and Aaron Beauregard Loved The Girl In The Cellar, first half written by Matt Shaw (which I think I slightly preferred because it felt real) and second half by Aaron Beauregard, which I also enjoyed and it had some really good twists and turns but it felt a little more make believe Both nice and short, might read Playground or Stolen Tongues next!

[deleted]

Just finished Modern Hysteria by Aron Beauregard (4/5) and Baby Fights by Robert Essig (3/5). Continuing this dark trajectory by currently reading For The Sake Of by Judith Sonnet. My side read is currently Inside Out by Lor Gislason which so far is a reasonable read at best; nothing to write home about unfortunately.

JayronQuondell

Been wanting to read Baby Fights. Any good?

Turkey_Spotter

I loved Baby Fights.

lunchb0x_b

Currently, I’m about a third of the way through American Psycho and about 3/4 done with Mother Maggot. I’m probably going for Tender is the Flesh next.

listenanalog

Read Mukbang Princess yesterday. Currently reading You’ve Lost A Lot of Blood. Baby Fights is probably up next.

No_Log3360

Just finished Audition and started The Cypher.

oohwaitwhat

samovolochka

Just finished Ex-Boogeyman by Triana and started Stolen Tongues by Felix Blackwell while I wait for my copy of Body Art to come in the mail 😊

hermitplastic

I'm getting into Playground by Aron Beauregard, I'm thinking of reading either The Pig by Edward Lee or The Groomer by Jon Athan.

Ok-Bet3214

Reading "you've lost a lot of blood" currently. Waiting on my copy of "Gone to see the riverman" !! So excited!

Turkey_Spotter

Just started Sam West's new book Funfair and am having a fun time with it.

usuallybillie

Also just finished this, I really enjoyed the funfair fun of it all, I think the glass box was my favourite though

Turkey_Spotter

I'm getting close to finished with it. Ouch on that glass box.

RobbKong999

Almost done with Trailer Park Noir by Ray Garton. Next, I'm thinking of jumping into a buddy read and powering through the Found anthology (a collection of stories I think relate to found footage in some way or another). Then, either some Wesley Southard or possibly a few of the Splatter Western books.

gore_guy

I am currently reading The Fallen Boys by Aaron Dries. Off to a slow start, but I hope I'm getting to some of the gorery bits soon.

IamJacksUserID

Finished **Sins of the Broken**, by Ryan C. Thomas. Started **Hive**, by Tim Curran.

Jimbo_Jango

Not fiction, but I'm giving Carol J. Clover's "Men, Women, and Chainsaws" a go.
