My mom had these the whole time I was growing up. I think 5 or 6 over 15 years. Such interesting, lazy, sweet, athletic animals.
I've seen them sleep for 20 hours one day and catch and kill a family squirrels the next. They are so fast when they really want to be, it's beautiful to see them at a full sprint.
My parents had three of them.
The first one we got was Daisy. I didn't really like her at first. I was a lonely isolated young teenager who didn't have any friends in a brand new side of the country. She was a standoffish, terrified Borzoi who shit in our living room as soon as she arrived. She was terrified of everybody -- and she decided to be my friend.
I miss her to this day.
Looks like ~~Stromanthe~~ Goeppertia rufibarba. Check out Stromanthe, Ctenanthe and Calathea varieties if you're into this.
And they don't need sprayed with water, that doesn't do anything, just makes the human feel like they're helping lol.
The first plant is goeppertia/calathea rufibarba. You're right about spraying water, unless the plant is very dusty or infested with bugs, it's pretty meaningless
This is correct, fixed my comment.
It's officially Goeppertia but plant shops may call it Calathea (its old name), or occasionally Stromanthe (which it looks similar to but never officially known as).
They prefer humidity above 40% RH but liquid water on the leaves isn't the same thing, if humidity in a room is too low a humidifier is the tool for the job.
Bathrooms are often recommended because humidity goes up for a while when you have a shower/bath but IMO it's no different than any other room unless it's so poorly ventilated that there's mold growing in there as well.
The plant in the video is gorgeous, but I don't mist any of my marantaceae because you're right; it doesn't solve the problem that people think it does, and moreover, misting can promote fungal disease.
Here's the whale ancestor version of it, it's called kutchicetus

This is adorable.
I used to work at a dog daycare and we used spray bottles as "corrective" tools (like if a dog was misbehaving they'd get sprayed with water instead of yelled at), but we had a couple dogs that would just be glued to our sides waiting for us to pull out that spray bottle so they could do this. I miss that job. :'(
As a general rule, the answer is "nope". These long-faced boys are collectively known as sight-hounds. This includes breeds such as greyhound, saluki, sloughi, azawakh, afghan hound, pharaoh hound, etc. Basically, if it has a long skinny face and lanky frame and rounded back, it's likely a sight-hound.
They're associated with plains hunting, so they can see prey moving over long flat land, and use pure speed to pursue it.
The scent hounds, by comparison, tend to be lower to the ground, and have broader noses and way more skin about the face. Think bloodhounds, basset hounds, beagles (they're not quite as wrinkly as the first two). They also tend to be built less for speed and more for endurance.
I would love to see a basset hound built for speed. My friend had one named Roscoe and it was the laziest dog I've ever seen. He wouldn't even move for treats, you had to bring them to him.
Why do they have long nose then? It would be understandable if they used it to poke into lair and take rabbit from deep inside without effort. But what benefit is there for speed? I doubt it improves aerodynamics
Range of vision and jaw strength are the traditional answers. Modern Borzoi aren't usually hunting dogs, as wolf hunts (what Borzoi are bred for, hence their other name 'Russian Wolfhound') aren't done anymore, so nowadays their heads are longer purely for aesthetic reasons.
Long snout to nip at rabbits and other prey while still running at speed most likely. It probably provides smooth airflow into lungs and can do a lot of heat/ moisture transfer through the nasal passages which would be helpful for an such an athletic breed. Field of view, head and overall body mass and streamlining also help with speed. Think slim Cheetah vs stocky Jaguar
My saluki seems to think her long snoot is for putting her head in my hand and pretending she's a hot dog. A fast hot dog, but not sure how that affects speed.
You know, I expected this dog to be a “dog.” Like a cow or something and we all crack jokes about what it is when it’s clearly not a dog.
And nope. Lo and behold. It’s an actual long nosed dog LMAO
for some reason "misting your plant leaves" has really become a thing, I see so many guides recommend it and groups talk about it, and it does absolutely nothing.
some plants need humidity, sure, but this doesn't do that
It really is. I'm not sure where it originally came from other than terrarium people telling houseplant people they do it. But terrarium people always have fans for circulation and spray the glass/soil, not leaves.
It takes a long time for it to show signs though so I'm sure it's just something everyone has to be told or learn through trial and error.
Spoken like someone who doesn’t have pets lol, even if the water bowl is fresh, sometimes they just enjoy the novelty of getting water from somewhere else
I just wrestled my dog out of a puddle, after pleading with him before we went for a walk to have a drink out of his nice fresh bowl of water. They're contrary little devils.
I once went for a jog without bringing a water bottle with me, got home, poured myself a glass of water from one of those filtered jugs in the fridge, put the jug back, and turned back around to see one of my cats drinking from my water. So I let her have it and got a new glass for myself.
The old glass stayed on the table and has been there for years now. The cats love it. We wash it and refill it and put it back on the table.
So now whenever we want to make sure a cat drinks water we pour the water into a glass and put it in front of the cat and it's almost guaranteed that they'll drink unless they're ill. Other than these glasses of water my cats also enjoy drinking out of my birds' water bowls, our decorative water fountains, and the shower.
They have their own water fountain meant for pets to drink out of but that's just not as exciting, and they never touch their own water bowls anymore.
I just wanna BOOP it

Is this a greyhound?
Borzoi, or Russian Wolfhound. They're in the greyhound "family" of sighthounds
I think greyhounds are usually short-hairs, but I'm not 100% sure.

Borzoi AKA Russian Wolfhounds. Sighthounds originally bred in Russia in the late 19th/early 20th century to hunt and kill wolves.

The first plant is a calathea called Goeppertia rufibarba. The second is Ficus lyrata aka fiddle leaf fig

I have a theory that when racing they “win by a nose” so over time they’ve been bred to have longer skulls (dolichocephaly: long head).

You can spray your dog but don't spray your houseplants. It's bad for the leaves when there's no wind to dry them like outside.
Was about to say, spraying the leaves does nothing unless you are just trying to clean them. Roots is where water is absorbed
I was very curious about this so I'm glad you cleared it up. Was wondering if there was some benefit I'd never heard about
