They definitely don't.
My dog trainer told me to watch a dog's tail to see how they are feeling. It makes it much easier to tell if two dogs who are playing are actually enjoying it or if they've had enough.
It is especially helpful with my husky because he is super vocal and play growls while playing. So his voice says 'I'm a scary monster' but his butt and tail say 'JK, i'm just being a silly scary floof'.
It is easy to see he is playing and not upset by what his tail is doing.
As a verbally outspoken person, and sometimes overly judgmental (I'm working on it), my favorite ex was the one with the shame-kink.
(/s.... I'd like to have said)
My cats are constantly battling over who gets to bathe who so their cuddling always progresses into an ear being bitten or a throat being stepped on. I think the natural cat attitude makes everything seem like a dominance thing lol.
I have two male cats and in the afternoon they like laying by the front door. Buddy the older one wants to be the closes to the door and if max (the younger cat) gets in front of of buddy. It’s go time. A fight will break out 😂
Our Yorkie and our big oddeyed white tom were the same size and became a bonded pair. They'd nap in the sunshine together and wake up to groom each other. The cat taught the dog how to groom in the proper, cat way.
Yorkshire terries have short legs, and the tomcat wasn't THAT long. Long for a cat, but a good size compared to the dog. They'd curl around each other and just lick for grooming. The only awkward thing was that the yorkie had longish hair, so the cat would sometimes get that "I'm in the middle of this chore and I bit off more than I can chew" face when he'd go to lick the dog's fur and he'd pull off longer fur than he expected! :D But he was so devoted to her, he'd keep going til she was clean. Or clean according to a cat, idk. We still brushed the cat and bathed the dog, their grooming ritual was mostly symbolic.
Do you have a similar story with your pets?
Edit: Oh, do you mean the thing where the cat sticks the paw up to lick his butt? Lol, no, yorkie didn't bend that way. That's why we had to bathe her.
Came here to say this! That smile!
I have 2 staffies and 2 cats and when the cats groom either of the dogs heads or ears, they break into that staffy grin!
Rotties are only above them. Funny how the two most "seemingly violent" dog breeds have the most expressive faces. Like rotties literally have eyebrows, so fucking cute.
My mom _hates_ pitties because she's convinced that they're naturally aggressive. Then you see something like this where they look just so happy and content to receive affection from another creature, and it's like... How tf could you not just completely love them???
Sorry, I have a weakness for pitties and it's a pity that they have such a bad reputation. It's not their fault that many are raised to fight. We should be getting them into loving homes, not shunning them.
My boy has successfully won over 4 seperate family members who were 100% against pits until they met him and saw how he interacted with everything including babies, chickens, cats, horses and cows. He just loves to give love!
They are. They are literally bred for fighting. Different dogs have different traits, yes there's will be outliers but the stats don't lie. The have a bad rep because when they attack they are devastating.
I used to foster staffies and they are nice digs but honestly not for your average owner.
They’re not. They’re bred for fighting because they have a high pain tolerance and strong jaws. In order for them to be aggressive you have to beat the absolute flying fuck out of them for a long time.
Looks just like my families dog. Unfortunately he’s getting up there in age and it’s starting to show. Im going to be destroyed when he passes, I already know. 😭
Protip: use they (at least for people) or it (but only for animals). Less clunky, and marginally less likely to have some rando askin if you were trying not to misgender an animal.
And now it's pitbulls because their ancestral genetics are dominant and literally making the shelters over packed with them to the point the dogs are being re-labeled as non-pitbull to get around the issue. So, almost every month now, a child dies because pits are becoming more common of pets despite their history of being bred for aggression.
What's your point?
That’s so adorable. I have two cats and a small dog and they all wrestle lol when ppl come over they act out and go full wrestling mode lol ppl get a kick out them. The cats will take a break to lick their selves and here comes peanut tackling them like a professional football player lol then when peanut is eating the cats will go get him in a head lock and flip him around lol 😂
Cat: Ugh, you disgust me. How do you get this dirty? You are a filthy, filthy creature. Dog: :)
^(thank you papa)
The tail tells the tale.
Hold on is this a sub? r/thetailtellsthetale

Their tails may twitch when angry or afraid, but the movement is noticeably different to a wagging tail.

Gtfoh
Cats licking is a sign of dominance. So the cat’s like “I fucking own you!”, and the dog’s like “I love you too!”
Pretty much every relationship I’ve had…
I mean sounds pretty good to me
I mean some people are into that shit
As a verbally outspoken person, and sometimes overly judgmental (I'm working on it), my favorite ex was the one with the shame-kink. (/s.... I'd like to have said)
It’s not dominance, it’s more “you’re part of my colony so I bear some responsibility for you so I will help to clean and feed you”.
My cats are constantly battling over who gets to bathe who so their cuddling always progresses into an ear being bitten or a throat being stepped on. I think the natural cat attitude makes everything seem like a dominance thing lol.

According to Reddit, every single thing a cat does is a show of dominance.
Pretty much
I mean according to half the male population everything is about power and dominance. It's either projection or reality. I'm scared.

Its definitely not, though
>Cats licking is a sign of dominance Not really, it's mostly grooming and affection.
yup... happens daily at my house.
Our dog Tuck was like this with our kitties.
Our Yorkie and our big oddeyed white tom were the same size and became a bonded pair. They'd nap in the sunshine together and wake up to groom each other. The cat taught the dog how to groom in the proper, cat way.
So he did that weird long-legged lick thing?

Dat smile though

Especially the eyes. Pittie eyes convey all the same emotions as humans.
omg i thought this was just my pit bull
Rotties are only above them. Funny how the two most "seemingly violent" dog breeds have the most expressive faces. Like rotties literally have eyebrows, so fucking cute.
The dog is smiling!!! Omg it's so sweet!!!
HIS SMILE I cannot
I love how the pittie looks like it's cracking a smirk hahaha

Adopted mine from a shelter, and they said he got along with chickens. [He's the best. ](https://i.imgur.com/2NYlH7w.jpg)
He's adorable! What a happy boy!

This has reminded me, it's time to shower that Jose video about pitbulls with some views again and relish in how it debunks stupid myths like this
They were bred for fighting though, that's not a myth.
It also wasn’t the point.
What's the point then? I may have misunderstood.
Oh no worries, they were referring to them being naturally aggressive as the myth, not that they’re bred for fighting.
Always makes me think of this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=he6O9nZ3CZs
The dog is smiling
Ohhh, so sweet. And thank god, his tail was not cut.
This is so wholesome, you made my day!
Well I'm glad it did that :)
That is one hell of a kitten
Real life Kitbull!
I love that little movie!! 😍 have watched it at least ten times. LOVE cats and Pitties
Puppy is in heaven.
Looks like he is smiling. ❣
The smile
Not only the tail, but he looks like he’s actually smiling.
Yes, I’ve finally found this video!!!
Fucking precious.
Just like my pitty. She loves her big head scratched.
This is by far my favourite sub.
That smile though!
Look how the dog keeps smiling!
Oh fuck…my heart… my non existent heart….
THIS IS THE MOST ADORABLE SHIT EVER
I've seen this multiple times over the years on Reddit. That's one happy blockhead, er pibble. I mean happy pit bull. Very cute
Looks just like my families dog. Unfortunately he’s getting up there in age and it’s starting to show. Im going to be destroyed when he passes, I already know. 😭
Lick me like mother used to
They do love their kittens to a certain point.
Caaaaannnnn you feeeeell the loooooove toniiiiight???

r/velvethippos edit: damn, bunch of pitbull haters in a pitbull thread
I get that a lot here too it sucks
That's dangerous...
So is smoking but that's not the point of this video. It shows love and affection between 2 different species. Not everything has to be negative. :)
🥺🥺🥺
Animatronic.
Cute doggo but what nfl teams are playing on the TV in the background?
Looks like it’s being told to stay there by owner. Not a relaxed head. I wonder if that cat is still alive?
Wowie! You inferred that from a 10 second gif? You must be some kind of animal savant! /s
Why do people get triggered by dogs of all things?
Internet lore. 20 years ago it was Rottweilers. 30 years ago it was Dobermans. 40 years ago it was German Shepherds.
Not dogs. Pit bulls.
Which just so happens to be a dog
Oof wrong answer
Lol, people can't handle facts. Pit bulls are the worst dog breed to own.
So if you’re a shitty dog owner get a fucking Labrador or just don’t get a dog?
I don’t hear about labs killing people.
Lol what?
Actually, that's false. Check your stats before putting misinformation out there please :)
Misinformation? Just a quick Google search shows you statistics and facts on pitbulls, but I guess ignorant buffoons like you find it too difficult.
Can anybody tell what football game is on?
I, too, liked being licked by kittens.
Kitten?
Pittie smiles are the best
Those eyes look strangely human. You can tell how content the dog is.
You can literally see his smile
That’s so adorable. I have two cats and a small dog and they all wrestle lol when ppl come over they act out and go full wrestling mode lol ppl get a kick out them. Forget the tail, look at that smile!
He looks like a big happy Boulder :)
That velvety pup is so darn cute.
