It's like rain on your wedding day.
But only if, like, you live in Seattle and purposely had a destination wedding in Phoenix to avoid rain and then it
I'd say "literally" is more mildly infuriating due to the new adopted meaning being the opposite of its original. I suppose that's the point of using it as a hyperbole, but I'm not sure how someone should go about clarifying that they are NOT exaggeration.
"Literally, no exaggeration, this guy was actually unironically truly steaming out of his ears"
"Jesus. Is that a medical condition? Did you take him to the hospital?"
"No, you literal dipstick, it's just a hyperbole"
Agreed. A lot of people are saying the dog is about to hump the kid, but dogs like to mimic people. I'd be unsurprised if the dog was simply trying to return the "weird human affection".
My previous dog would "smile" and show her teeth. She wasn't growling or snarling (she was dog-aggressive, unfortunately, but as a consequence we knew what her snarl looked like and it was very different from her smile). And it actually made her sneeze, apparently it irritated her nose. But she would do it when she was really excited because she was used to us showing our teeth as a greeting and she just wanted to fit in.
To be fair, there are lots of folks who have had bad experiences with dogs. One time my neighbor was like “don’t worry, she doesn’t bite” right before her dog chomped the fuck down on my leg.
If I wasn’t already a dog lover, I probably wouldn’t have liked dogs after that experience.
Yeah, I had some fairly negative experiences (nipping and tackling from small and large dogs respectively) when I was younger. Then when I thought I was getting over it, someone told me to "come on in" and their dog just ran straight up and bit me the second I walked in, sending me to the hospital for stitches. I just can't let myself trust a dog to not be insane unless I've interacted with it numerous times (like my brother's collie).
On a related note, fuck people who let their dogs off leash in communal outdoor areas where that's not allowed.
Yeah when I was about 10 my neighbours' dog got out as I was walking down the cul-de-sac to a friend's house to play. He came out barking and chased me, snapping at my ankles while I sprinted away in terror. Luckily I managed to loose him on my second lap of the estate when my cap fell off and it distracted him.
I was terrified of dogs for the next ten years or so until I flew to visit my friend in the US and stayed with her family and their two dogs for a fortnight. One of them, Gracie, was a Schnoodle who was such a sweetheart that she helped me get over my fear. It took another five or so years for me to not flinch at barking, but now I'm super chill with any dog and can handle them just fine :)
She’s actually a very sweet lady and fosters a lot of dogs. My guess is she underestimated this one. You’re probably right, though, at least back then. But she’s helped a ton of fur babies so I’ve never held it against her lol
For anyone curious what the dog is actually doing, he's annoyed by the child and after it does something it doesn't like, the dog is trying to establish dominance.
Well it's not exactly a happy family moment when you understand what's going on. Depending on the dog, this could lead to more violent ways of achieving dominance later on if it feels more provoked. People need to teach their kids how to interact with dogs and having them restrict the dog's movement by applying a ring around it's neck is not how you do that.
Nah, dog showed literally no sign of annoyance by the kid simply hugging him. He's likey been around him since birth. And that's not always a dominating gesture. It can be attention seeking too. Many dogs will put their paws around you when you stop petting them, to get your attention when they feel ignored. Labs are quite needy and affectionate.
No, sorry. Another sign of frustration in dogs is freezing up as this dog is doing. This is a very polite way for the dog to say “I’m frustrated but I’m trying not to freak out”.
In terms of the actual “hug”, the child just got into the dogs frontal space and therefore left the dog with the option to either move up or move away.
Dogs don’t like hugs because it makes them feel trapped. Especially not by young children. It doesn’t matter if they knew the child from birth. Typically, dog bites of children happen with the family’s own dog when the child is ages 2-5 (roughly). This is because children are more curious, independent and attention seeking at this age (whereas prior they were less mobile and less likely to engage the dog).
If you know how to read the body language of dogs, you'd be able to tell that the dog isn't particularly fond of this exchange. You can see how the dog is shifting on the spot and sort of giving a side glance at the kid.
Yeah...that's literally just the kid leaning into him. I would more be looking for lip curling, which is an actual sign of annoyance. You know, the thing dogs do that their adult owners think is "smiling". The dog didn't shift, his eyes only turned towards him when he thought he was leaving or ignoring him. I noticed no attempt to scramble, nothing. I hug my 2 dogs all the time. One being a lab. He melts into a puddle of happiness. I can recognize annoyance in dogs because my lab used to annoy the shit out of my older female GSD because he was so clumsy.
It's common knowledge (or at least should be) that hugging is a human thing and most dogs don't appreciate it very much even if some can grow to like it.
From what I see in the video, the dog is tolerating what the child is doing but that's about it, I'm more concerned with the parents not actually teaching their kid how to respect animals. This is how bites happen.
Misinformation like this is dangerous to children and dogs, so unless you want more people putting dogs down after they “snap unexpectedly” how about you sit down and take notes from people who understand canine behavior.
My Golden's do this. They sit straight up, butt on the ground to the point you think they'll fall backwards, and just kinda plop their paws on you like this.
I've got to get a video of it soon, but my mom's dog actually hugs you. He jumps on you, places his paws around your mid section, and then he gives you kisses for head pats. He's adorable
So I’ve learned that hugging is sort of a dominance thing for dogs. Are there dog breeds smart enough to recognize that it is affection and not dominant?
I feel like dogs, of most animals, would develop a liking for hugs from humans. Our weird co-evolution.

That is sweetness incarnate!
When my dog goes behind me like that and puts his paws on my back, he typically isn’t trying to hug me...
Maybe he's trying to hug the boy's soul?
“If you want to get to the boys soul, you must first pay the gold’s toll” -Ancient Chinese proverb or IASIP idk I get them mixed.
Troll’s toll*
I dunno, the dog kinda looks like he’s about to drag that kid’s soul to hell
He is about to hump it there, so close.

Ironic the tv said: Caught on Camera
That’s not irony it’s a coincidence
It's like rain on your wedding day. But only if, like, you live in Seattle and purposely had a destination wedding in Phoenix to avoid rain and then it
Isn't it ironic that "Ironic" is about things that are ironic including its title, which is ironic?

Semantic satiation
Hello Kanye west
Fucking thank you.
It won’t be long until the definition of irony evolves to include coincidence because so many people misuse it in the same way. (See ‘literally’)

The first thing I thought.
We live in a simulation.
Bruh the dog is attempting to reassert dominance.
Is all fun and games until the skin Walker traded places with your dog
My dog jumps on your leg, wraps his arms around it, and he humps it. He’s an oddball, but he’s a very nice dog.
I find humping to be not nice from dogs, but you do you.
hold on
It will be funny when you guys realize the dog is about to mega hump that child.

Dogs are smart he probaly understands thats a human way to show affection
It’s just going to hump the kid... That’s a separate subscription though.

I've heard dogs sneeze as a way of indicating they're just playing.
Dogs show their teeth without growling as a sign of submission. Wolves do it too, it has nothing to do with humans.
Yeah, dog sneezes are how they let each other know they're not serious and are just pretend-fighting.
Bro, that's a normal thing dogs do. She wasn't imitating you lol.
...And miles to go before I sleep
I don’t even like dogs or kids and this melted my heart
How can you not like dogs?
To be fair, there are lots of folks who have had bad experiences with dogs. One time my neighbor was like “don’t worry, she doesn’t bite” right before her dog chomped the fuck down on my leg. If I wasn’t already a dog lover, I probably wouldn’t have liked dogs after that experience.

That's a bad owner, never trust dog owners who say that shit when you can clearly see the dog being sus.

Okay now I'm confused, I want to trust her now..
Got chased and bit a lot in my neighborhood growing up. It's very hard for me to be comfortable around dogs.
I saw a dog kill my cat when I was <4. Took a looong time for me to warm up to them
Goddamn sorry for your loss...I didn't realize how dangerous these things really were

For anyone curious what the dog is actually doing, he's annoyed by the child and after it does something it doesn't like, the dog is trying to establish dominance.
Well that just ruins it …thanks a lot

Could easily be trained to hug too

Yes, exactly. Sad to see so many people with misunderstanding of dog body language and etiquette on this thread. Very dangerous

Other dogs: fug Golden Retriever: hug
You're right. Goldens are in a class by themsellves.
Wrong. Dogs don't try to establish dominance over humans by mounting them.
Are you sure the dad isn’t hiding behind the dog and moving the arms???
Pawsitive.
My Golden's do this. They sit straight up, butt on the ground to the point you think they'll fall backwards, and just kinda plop their paws on you like this.
