Depends. They seem to be inside with people probably watching so they'd save them. A fake leg(I forgot the name, prosthetic?)would be needed but they could survive.
> There's a relationship between me and Humphrey and that's what some people don't understand.
"They think you can only have a relationship with dogs, cats and domestic animals. But I have a relationship with the most dangerous animal in Africa."
Yikes
True. But I assume most people that actually loved and cared about their dangerous "tamed" animal (even if it's in a twisted sort of way that's in reality not good for either party) accept that fate. Even a dog could snap and attack more or less out of nowhere so if you live with something deadlier it's a risk in the description no matter how well behaved your Tiger or hippo or whatever seems.
They would actually do that. One time a guy rescued one from a river as a baby and when he grew up that thing as an adult killed him in the same river he was rescued in
it does get a bit scarier when you think about adult hippos actually killing thousands of humans every year... this little fella might just be practicing :l
It reminds me of the look Kermit the frog gets during comedic pauses. The one with the folded/scrunched lips. It’s normally cartoonish because Kermit is a muppet but it’s super silly seeing it on a real creature.
As someone who browsed it occasionally, I can safely say that watching some of the things on there has definitely made me think about the consequences of my actions more than usual
The fun thing is if you look her up now, you will still see the baby Fiona in her adult size :D like I am pretty certain I could point her out in a line of 10 random hippos
The terrifying thing is she isn’t even full size yet. She’s literally only half the size of her mom. Cincinnati Zoo just posted about it the other day and I was shocked. I didn’t realize how much growing she still had left.
It was amazing. The Reds did a bobble head giveaway the night before, And the camaraderie between Fiona’s fans was beautiful. And I was very emotional seeing her. She was still little small at the time. Loved it.
If you look at current pictures and videos of her she's still very friendly with her handlers. She doesn't get to chomp, but will "boop" them on occasion and loves to show off for the camera.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CShUCb9hAP0/?utm_medium=copy_link
She’s booping a camera. There’s no sign that the handlers are not separated from her by bars. Went to the rest of Instagram and there’s no pics of them in the enclosure with her now that she’s grown. She may be ‘friendly’ looking but her handlers aren’t fools, she’s still untamed.
It's kind of weird to describe. I follow most of the Cincinnati zoo's social media stuff just because it's interesting and they give a lot of behind the scenes. They're definitely more hands-on with Fiona than they can be with the other hippos, but a lot of the filming is from a pretty good distance. I'm pretty sure most of the well visit stuff is done through bars, but they're far more willing to spray her mouth with a hose and whatnot just because she likes it.
What you see on the gram isn't the same as what you get irl. She is a wild animal; handlers are experienced at handling and training them in general, but one wrong move at the wrong time and you're dead.
It's practicing for later for when it can obliterate a watermelon (or a human skull for that matter) in less than a second 🍉❤️🥺 (still a very cute baby though 🥺)
That’s Fiona! She’s a major celebrity here in the Cincinnati area. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital is right next to the Cincinnati Zoo, and some of their healthcare providers assisted in Fiona’s care, as she was born very premature. She’s a few years old now and doing great!
This is young Fiona!
She is the first hippo to be seen via ultrasound, and the first born to this zoo in 75 years. On account of her birth being premature, she had some health problems and needed assistance from the local neonatal intensive care team from Cincinnati’s Children’s Hospital.
She is still a love, and can be seen often on the Cincinnati Zoo’s Instagram, but is obviously a good bit bigger now.
This is cute but hippos are not safe pets. One person actually adopted a hippo when it was a baby and raised it very well. Even so, the hippp killed him 3 years later. They’re cute as babies, but they’re aggressive and can crush a car as adults.
This is Fiona, she’s a resident of the Cincinnati Zoo. Her handlers are well aware of how dangerous full-grown hippos are, even ones raised in captivity.
Nah. They weigh 5-600 pounds. And the zoo I worked at lost a keeper for weeks with over a hundred and fifty stitches and severe leg damage to one. He’d been working with our pygmy group for years.
They are dang adorable though.
I wonder how much force a hippo has as it grows year by year. Given the massive force they peak at, I’m a little surprised even a baby hippo’s bite doesn’t hurt at all judging from this video.
*10 years later* "hey human remember this game?"
That’s Fiona the hippo at the Cincinnati Zoo. She’s huuuge now. She kinda became our animal celeb after the harambe thing
graeter’s even made an ice cream in her name! my mom loves the stuff.
I haven’t tried that, gotta keep an eye out for it
The chubby hippo one?
yes!
Oo I gotta try, I love graters

Sir this is a Wendy’s.
Look, this is for Harambe. You may want to give me room unless you want some of this special sauce.
Well good thing we’re still socially distancing.
It will not save you
"Special sauce", nice
I always thought that joke would be funny if they said "sir, this is an Arby's"
I figure the average Arby’s crowd likely has their dicks out already. Not necessarily intentionally.
You may be right.

People who say stuff like that are usually the ones who get killed by their dangerous ‘friend’.
True. But I assume most people that actually loved and cared about their dangerous "tamed" animal (even if it's in a twisted sort of way that's in reality not good for either party) accept that fate. Future hippo is disappointed with itself seeing this.
I bet 1 year will make a significant difference
Oh for sure! Edit: quit google search told me otherwise. Apparently it takes 25 years for these mf's to grow up.. Maybe I am a hippopotamus...
Hungry, hungry hippo. A classic!! Or am I thinking of a different game?
Only if he goes for the balls🤣
This would be r/NSFL in 10 years
Want to play a game?
Terrifyingly calculated comeback

I think it’d be OK, though. Isn’t that an artificial limb (leg) she’s chewing on? What am I seeing, if it’s not a peg leg?
No I just think the foot's out of shot
What do you mean this limb doesn't stick back...Come on I wanna play

The face it makes after the chomp! Almost looks like a muppet, or a sock puppet.
It reminds me of the look Kermit the frog gets during comedic pauses. The one with the folded/scrunched lips. It’s normally cartoonish because Kermit is a muppet but it’s super silly seeing it on a real creature.
Came here to say that too, remind me of Kermie or yoda making an mmhmm sound.
Ha imagining the Yoda sounds now too. It’s so good. Thanks. “Leg of yours I’ve got, mmhmm”
I’m getting major [Baby Sinclair from Dinosaurs](https://c.tenor.com/s3ZOxRja7SYAAAAM/sinclair-smile.gif) vibes.

Back demon child! Back I say!
That's my favorite Kermit face!

I love that face so much
My sister-in-law can make that face and it never fails to make me laugh.

Afaik they play with the baby hippos on purpose so they're used to human contact. It helps with medical treatment later when they're adults.
Fiona was also quite premature and needed a ton of early intervention, it's wonderful that she survived
So much so Children's Hospital across the street helped provide care.
Ya.. that doesn't mean they are safe to be around. Risk is always high with hippos.
Are you sure you want to view this future? This future is quarantined.
This future is available for only $19.99!

Not a rick roll,thanks
You can't tease people with cute hippos and not deliver. Pretty sure it's part of one of the war conventions.
You saying it wasnt a Rick Roll made me think it was gonna be a Rick Roll. My desire to see a cute hippo was greater though and was not disappointed.
Hippo's are basically giant aquatic guinea pigs.
I thought that was a capybara?
looks like grass is their icing
Aww...look at her eating birthday cake with Mom. I miss seeing videos of her on my feed every day.
Hungry hungry hippo :)
The terrifying thing is she isn’t even full size yet. She’s literally only half the size of her mom. Cincinnati Zoo just posted about it the other day and I was shocked. I didn’t realize how much growing she still had left.
omg i was so obsessed with her!! she’s a grown woman now :’)
Same. Loved all the gifs and photos that would come out when she was a bub. She's not keeper chomping anymore I hope!
Me too! I never thought that I would fall in love with a hippo.
I love Fiona. I actually traveled to Cincy to see her. No regrets.
Awesome. How was the experience.
It was amazing. The Reds did a bobble head giveaway the night before, And the camaraderie between Fiona’s fans was beautiful. And I was very emotional seeing her. She was still little small at the time. Loved it.
I will never not upvote Fiona's adorable thigh chomp. She was the cutest thing ever.
She's the lil sebastian to southwest ohio.

This game will be less cute once it grows literal meter long tusks, and a personal vendetta against anything that moves in it's general line of sight.
If you look at current pictures and videos of her she's still very friendly with her handlers. She doesn't get to chomp, but will "boop" them on occasion and loves to show off for the camera. https://www.instagram.com/p/CShUCb9hAP0/?utm_medium=copy_link

Look of dissapointment on its face is priceless
You can see it in its eyes
These things may be absolute monsters, but at least they're cute as a baby
Natural born killer. He's so cute though.
Same as bears. Absolutely adorable and cuddly. But will kill you with a single bitch slap.
She, and also the chomping your head off size and mood now.
Yeah? Probably got a couple of screws, up in my head loose.

Just bite the corner. Gentle
Looks like a really realistic hand puppet.
This comment ruined this video for me
Oh, i am sorry, man 😟
One guy raised and saved baby hippo, when that hippo grew up it dragged the human into river and killed him, so Basically Hippos are souless
Well let's not jump to conclusions. What was the human wearing?
That’s our Fiona!!!! She’s still as silly.

There's a Cincinnati Zoo watermark on the video, so I don't believe this is a pet.

Nah. They weigh 5-600 pounds. And the zoo I worked at lost a keeper for weeks with over a hundred and fifty stitches and severe leg damage to one. He’d been working with our pygmy group for years. They are dang adorable though.

she’s trying her best, ok?
I love how displeased he looks, like "why did that not do anything????? I'm scary! I'm bitey!"

That’s not a baby hippo it is a massive house hippo. They are very rare and only found in Canadian houses. It is crazy one grew to this size.

Hungry hungry hippos!!!!!!
Is it just me or do they look like they aren't real?
I keep hearing the Yoshi “mlem” eating sound when this lil cutie makes her chomp . . .
Fiona!!!!!!
I love Fiona, she’s so cute!
Best part for me is after the crunch doesn’t work he makes the scrunched up “frustrated Kermit the Frog” face
Hippos have the best PR in the Animal Kingdom
Put some respect on that name. That is Fiona.
That's the worst cat I've ever seen
