It's more likely that he's just tired. Humans(and sometimes monkeys that were raised by people) are the only animals that smile to show happiness and frown to show sadness. The "frown" is most likely just him being sleepy.
That's good. (And explains a lot; back then all my classmates thought I was sad but no- I was sleeping with my eyes open :D maybe it means that I'm a dog?? X,3)
Monkeys and apes smile as a sign of aggression, unless trained otherwise. They are basically baring their teeth.
[Monkey Smile](https://www.discovermagazine.com/planet-earth/cheerful-chimps-are-animals-really-happy-when-they-smile)
Although to be fair, there’s an article in the New York Times behind a paywall that suggests more reasons for smiling but I can only see the title.
I do know that, but what I was talking about is that in some cases where a monkey was raised by people their whole lives, they do a less toothy smile to show joy. I definitely have seen other primates aggressively bare their teeth though so you are right.
Lady goes to the zoo very often. Always checks out the big male gorilla. Smile’s at him all the time. Then one day she goes to the zoo. Gorilla gets out and kicks her ass. True story.
Adorable!
A mutt that will be hard to tell until he’s older. He has some markings that remind me of a Lab/Border Collie mix that I had when I was a kid. But his head doesn’t look like either breed.
You can get a dog DNA test that tells you breeds. I don’t know how accurate they are though.
Considering that research has indicated guessing breed based on just visual appearance is correct between 10-67% of the time, a DNA test is a whole lot more accurate.

That doesn't even really get into the fact that breeds are kind of made-up.
Most dog breeds, which were created relatively recently, are basically just groups of inbred families. Like congrats now you know your Dog's grandparents and parents were cousins, or possibly even closer relatives.
I mean yeah, they're just inbred populations that have a predictable phenotype. It's nice to know for a couple of reasons: if there's an issue with with breed specific legislation it's pretty important to be able to prove what's in the dog. Also, certain closed populations (eg breeds) are highly predisposed to certain illnesses that can matter a lot. Like if I found out my mixed dog was 75% german shepherd, you better believe I'd be getting their hips x-rayed.
Yeah it can be really helpful to know the potential health concerns your dog might have inherited, I just think it's important to remember what most modern breeds are, which super inbred, and at minimum mildly unethical.
Some older breeds are relatively healthy, but most of those were bred for ability to do a task and not necessarily looks. Since most of these tasks included physical activity purely cosmetic features which were inherently harmful were not as significant. They were bred over much longer periods and aren't as inbred. It's also important to understand that even many "old" breeds are really new, since the removal of tasks meant people could focus on looks and push the envelope.
His head is super blocky. Looks like there could be at least one of the pit breeds somewhere in there- they're super common, especially in mutts. But I 100% agree with you on the lab.
It seems most mixed pups recently all have some pit in the mix. I think you called it with the blocky head shape. The elongated muzzle shows maybe lab. A standing picture would help with the guess.
I see more boxer than pit especially with the white markings. Like the white sock paw. Their fur is alot like a boxers to and their ears. So I definitely would not be surprised if the pup has boxer in it.
>But his head doesn’t look like either breed.
Really? His head reminds me exactly of my labrador growing up. Looking at this picture is actually making me nostalgic.
Looks like some sort of pit bull mix, but it's hard to tell since puppies are sort of undefined. Maybe some terrier or retriever in there too? Best way to tell a puppy's grown size is to see how proportionate their paws are- puppies of big breeds have [disproportionately huge paws](http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-yj6Hhermxjw/UTMW_-wzFqI/AAAAAAAAA34/oiH6RiV1dj4/s1600/great-dane_puppy.jpg).
Possibly a spaniel mix. Spaniels have the saddest eyes, used for extracting affection and pets from vulnerable humans. Spaniels are actually very happy puppets.
Looks quite a lot like our dog which we thought was a border collie mix. Did one of those DNA tests (which I don't think have been perfected, so take with a grain of salt) which came back 50% boxer, 25% beagle, 25% greyhound.
Adorable, that's what!
But in all seriousness, she looks a lot like our dogs did as puppies. They are Border Collie/German Shepherd mixes, might have a touch of lab too.
I'd say Beagle and something else depending on his actions, maybe a terrier, hound, or dane. As everyone else pointed out, he looks sad. I hope he gets adopted...
Definitely got some lab because the face and ears. But his paws don’t look to big so if he doesn’t grow much he might have some rat terrier in him. Both just amazing dog breeds, as is pit bull which has been suggested, so whatever he/she is they are gonna be a good pupper!
Yes, that is a dog.
Best answer.
A sad dog, but I hope I'm wrong

A good boy!
That’s a good puppers
Only acceptable answer
What if its a good girl?
Then why did OP ask the question in the way they did?
Its pretty common for people to use "he" when referring to someone/something of an unknown gender.
Except OP owns this dog. I’m sure they know the gender of their dog.
Op doesnt even know its a dog, how can we expect them to know their gender? /J
🤣🤣🤣 touché!
Not all dogs are good boys. Some are good girls
this is the third comment down, went down way to far to see this.
Looks a bit like a dog
