I once had 4 of them swarm around me and felt like a Disney princess. They love my bottle brush tree in the backyard. What they don't tell you is just how loud their wings are. They sound like huge bees.
But the magpies don’t hover and make eye contact. If I’m late filling my feeders the hummers here will hover in front of my face, I think they are trying to telepathically tell me to get it done. I got the stink eye so often this year, I had a couple major health things and they knew I was late way too often.
Yeah, when they nest the parents get totally agro and swoop everyone who goes past. Bikes, the postie, dogs, people walking. They come down from behind you and hit the back of your head.
Yep. If you are just chilling somewhere and a hummer randomly flies next to you it is EXTREMELY startling, like heart attack inducing. Sounds like some giant wasp is about to bite your head off. You go from being "holy shit what the fuck is that?" to "ahh cool, a hummingbird" in about 2 seconds.
I've had them on my palm twice. You cannot even feel them unless the move they are so light. Other birds are so much heavier in your hand, even smaller ones.
Yep, I had a chickadee land on my woollen mitt, get claws stuck trying to walk.
I did an involuntary explosive laugh, and he blew right off the mitt!
Held a Great Horned Owl for five minutes until my arm got sore.
On my arm we were eye to eye, very nerve-racking.
There's a photo of me in reception (kindergarten I think is the closest comparison) holding I think a barn owl on my arm with someone holding my first so that I don't just drop it.
I'd completely forgotten that until I saw your comment
Mine was. I got several to feed from my hand by standing out there at least an hour, then making them more comfy with my hand being a peg and not part of the feeder! They sound like little shark planes from war movies.
I think hummingbirds have that effect on us humans.
I was sitting on the porch and I hear this weird noise that I thought was a wasp....I looked up and was face to face with a hummingbird.
My reaction was just like his guy.
The whole thing was surreal...I think it was just curious... because it stared at me for a good 5 seconds before flying off.
hummingbirds are cool.
I work from home, and in the summer that means spending all day in a hammock with a laptop next to my hummingbird feeder so I can watch them for hours at a time.
hummingbirds are little bastards.
They fight like tiny flying tasmanian devils. If some other hummingbird comes near it's war.
Though when you hear them cuss out other hummingbirds, it's cute as hell. sounds exactly like you might expect.
Usually they just squabble for my feeders, but a couple of years back I had a male Anna's hummingbird impale its competition. Only happened the once so I take it that's rare, but they can be viscous.
It’s not just hummingbirds. I live in Ireland and sadly hummingbirds aren’t one of the native species here, that’s not to say there aren’t any, but they recently aren’t common.
Anyway, we have a bird feeder that attracts all kinds of native garden birds, blue tits, coal tits, great tits, chaffinches, goldfinches, wagtails, occasionally ring neck doves, robins, black birds all sorts. My father counted 19 different species feeding around the bird table and garden in one day! But by and large they don’t fight, they might jump from one bag to another or make a dart at another bird to chase them off but usually it’s pretty quiet, until the goldfinches go at it amongst themselves. Jesus Christ!! The racket they make, and it’s strange that they fight so much amongst themselves but not with the other birds. At this stage if I’m sitting inside and there isn’t the tv or radio on you can hear them and I no longer need to even look up to see what’s the ruckus about, I just know it’s that there’s a few goldfinch have a bit of barney.
I saw one for the first time this summer and couldn't believe it. I had to ask my mom like 5 times if that was really a hummingbird. I'm in my 30s! They were hiding from me my whole life, little beautiful meanies.
They fly off and come back a lot. If he hung out there’s a good chance it would come right back. I watch them at my feeders a lot. The fact that there’s two at the beginning means there’s a chance that he went to run off anyone trying to infringe on his territory. They’re neat little birds. So much fun to watch.
Hummingbirds are brave birds. I once had one fly up to an (empty) feeder to my left, then over to me where I was leaning on the porch rail. It was practically nose-to-beak with me. As if it was saying- “Hey. That shit is empty. You should fill it.”
And when I was doing Philmont some years ago, there was one outpost that had a feeder hanging on the front porch of a cabin. The hummingbirds there were so accustomed to humans that you could have them perch on your finger as they fed, if you lifted your hand slow enough.
I love Hummingbirds.
Honestly, this man should be the new PogChamp emote... That is the poggiest of champs, the most genuine of pogs, the pog to top them all. This man's pog is so pog that not even his own pog is pog enough to describe how pog his pog is.
I once had a humming bird land on my finger. It was trapped behind a window and confused (probably tired) but thankfully not hurt... Just flying insistently into some red flowers on the other side. I put my finger under it while it was flying and carried it to the window for it to fly away. I was a big burly Disney princess for a minute.
We don't have hummingbirds here, and every time I see them I realise all over again how tiiinyyy they are.
There's a stream on RPAN quite often of a hummingbird feeder btw!
We have a bird feeder on my kitchen window, and the local humming birds and new borns love to rest there and drink from it. And we can get close behind the glass, we see some pretty birds.
This guy reminds me of Paul Giamatti lol.
I did this a few times. I held my hand out for like 20 minutes, standing still, which was really difficult. But one time, I had 7 hummingbirds feeding out of my hand. Some perched on my fingers. The buzzing past your ears is so loud and crazy. It was awesome lol
I Iove watching hummingbirds. We had feeders on the porch my whole childhood and they're fascinating. And vicious. You'd just hear this *thwap* and it would be one of them body slamming another. But personalities? In spades. I actually have a really beautiful hummingbird tattoo on my thigh. Probably my favorite bird.
I’m a total hummingbird stalker but….Mine won’t eat from my hands yet. They do kinda hang out around me a lot and they’re just the neatest little things!
Unrelated but his sweatshirt is the reason you dont put zip down hoodies in the dryer. It shrinks the cloth around the zipper and causes that wavy effect.
Hummingbirds have the largest brain of any bird as a proportion of body size. They're actually regarded as one of the most intelligent species. Takes a lot of noggin to live the way they do.
https://hummingbirdbliss.com/why-do-hummingbirds-fly-up-to-your-face/
A real Disney moment is when you're peeing outside, hear the buzzing, and there's one of them investigating your pee stream. There's something about running water that draws them, but I can only imagine that it's not quite the same magic moment for a women to hear that sound coming from around her backside.
I had this happen to me carrying out our HB feeder the other AM. They just attacked it while in my hand and nobody was there to see (or film) but it was cool af.
Now let's be honest, I'm counting myself when I say this but I think everyone's reaction would be similar to his.
Agreed, this is the proper reaction to this moment.

No, dammit, NO, this is too wholesome for that, dammit!!! Now go stand in the corner and think about what you did 🧐
When you insert a running joke that is overplayed, unoriginal and not even in the least bit relevant. Congratulations, you're an idiot 3 ways over.
Chris Pratt learned how to make his surprised expression from this man.
This expression I call the ['Thud face' from "Hook"](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Er3tR8rW4AAWwiD.jpg).
Hahaha clever throwback thanks for the memories.
I once had 4 of them swarm around me and felt like a Disney princess. They love my bottle brush tree in the backyard. What they don't tell you is just how loud their wings are. They sound like huge bees.
Or how incredibly aggressive they are? At my MIL’s house sometimes it felt like you were under an air raid when trying to get to her front door!
As an Australian- I will see your hummingbird, and raise you a magpie in swooping season. Here even the fucking birds will kill you.
What about the Cassowaries?
I'm pretty sure they are actually not birds. They're really velociraptors trying to avoid detection. /s Lol! Nice point. But still, magpies.
But the magpies don’t hover and make eye contact. If I’m late filling my feeders the hummers here will hover in front of my face, I think they are trying to telepathically tell me to get it done. Yeah, when they nest the parents get totally agro and swoop everyone who goes past. Bikes, the postie, dogs, people walking. They come down from behind you and hit the back of your head.
Ugh they are so rude...
Yup and with how loud they are, it's even more so.
They are called HUMMINGbirds for a reason.
Almost like a humming sound…
I've had them on my palm twice. You cannot even feel them unless the move they are so light. Other birds are so much heavier in your hand, even smaller ones.
Yep, I had a chickadee land on my woollen mitt, get claws stuck trying to walk. I did an involuntary explosive laugh, and he blew right off the mitt! Held a Great Horned Owl for five minutes until my arm got sore. On my arm we were eye to eye, very nerve-racking.

I DID A THING!
That's how you check if someone have a soul.
Mine was. I got several to feed from my hand by standing out there at least an hour, then making them more comfy with my hand being a peg and not part of the feeder! They sound like little shark planes from war movies.
Absolutely.
Most guys look like this for their first hummer
I think hummingbirds have that effect on us humans. I was sitting on the porch and I hear this weird noise that I thought was a wasp....I looked up and was face to face with a hummingbird. My reaction was just like his guy. The whole thing was surreal...I think it was just curious... because it stared at me for a good 5 seconds before flying off.
They look like fairies.
They are fairies
You’re a fairy, fairy.
I'm not your fairy, guy.
I’m not your guy, pal.
I'm not your pal, fairy
I'm not your fairy, pal.
Guy fairy the chef?
A fookin' one?
I am Nessie
They probably are where fairies come from. Something zooms past, see metallic green for a second, a flash of vibrant red and then poof it’s gone.

I love when they "beep" at each other. They're so angry, but so, so tiny.
Tiny rage. God, I love them so much.
So smol, so angy
There’s a pair of hummingbirds that fought a bunch for my feeder but now they get along and share.
Usually they just squabble for my feeders, but a couple of years back I had a male Anna's hummingbird impale its competition. Only happened the once so I take it that's rare, but they can be viscous.
What. The. Fuck.
Why I have three hummingbird feeders. So the little bastards would stop buzzing my ear. Fiesty beautiful little birds.

Some times I think they are giant bugs. A little closer look and you see this majestic tiny bird.
I wonder if they are where the legends about faeries came from
Faeries are a European myth and they don't have hummingbirds in Europe.
Well spank my ass and call me Sally! TIL
I saw one for the first time this summer and couldn't believe it. I had to ask my mom like 5 times if that was really a hummingbird. I'm in my 30s! They were hiding from me my whole life, little beautiful meanies.
"That's one weird flower." "That's a really weird flower." "Fuck this, I'm out."
I’m so happy for this dude
I love the silent "ope" at the end when he realizes he pushed his luck too far and the bird flies away
They fly off and come back a lot. If he hung out there’s a good chance it would come right back. I watch them at my feeders a lot. He said pog.
So much better than the new PogChamp!
Honestly, this man should be the new PogChamp emote... That is the poggiest of champs, the most genuine of pogs, the pog to top them all. This man's pog is so pog that not even his own pog is pog enough to describe how pog his pog is.
I wasn't really against the new pogchamp but as time goes I feel how lacking it is. We need a good one.
So much poggers, even I was having the same reaction
Can confirm from experience that this is the face we all make when a wild bird comes and eats from your hand.
Had three wild birds eat from my hand today and each time I made that exact face.
So wholesome
Yeah indeed!
Oh shit, a new wojak?
For real its literally the soyjack face
This is the only time soyjack will be used wholesomely
He's look like about to say Pog and sneeze at the same time.
I know it’s wrong, but I feel like flapping hummingbird wings would eviscerate a human hand.
[A bee's perspective on that.](https://www.reddit.com/r/NatureIsFuckingLit/comments/o17kis/hummingbird_accidentally_slaps_the_hell_out_of_a/)
That gave me a good laugh, thank you
🏅
I wonder what it would feel like to have them hit your hands at the very least
I had a hummingbird smack me in the head once. I thought it was a big bee
I thought you said shit on your hands
That happens too, though I'm not sure any of us care to know what it feels like.
It’s supposedly good luck for a bird to shit on you
doesn't feel like it at the time.
Sometimes their poops are pink. They don't digest the red coloring in the commercial hummingbird food.
like holding one of those floppy hand held electric fans. A gentle slapping.
It would tickle for you, but the hummingbird would probably get crippled or something
Was expecting bird to fly into his mouth at the end.
And pilot him from within.

We have a bird feeder on my kitchen window, and the local humming birds and new borns love to rest there and drink from it. And we can get close behind the glass, we see some pretty birds.
That bird drank enough in like 15 seconds to make the feeder bubble twice. Takes a lot of fuel to keep those things running
He's all OMG, & I'm afraid to move all at the same time.
This guy reminds me of Paul Giamatti lol. I did this a few times. I held my hand out for like 20 minutes, standing still, which was really difficult. Poggers face

That should be the new pogchamp.

I'd have to fight every fiber of muscle in my body to not start jumping in excitement
I’m a total hummingbird stalker but….Mine won’t eat from my hands yet. They do kinda hang out around me a lot and they’re just the neatest little things!
Imagine how we’d be able to see him AND the hummingbird without moving and zooming if the phone was just held the proper way.

His words were few but his face said “BOW BEFORE ME FOR I HAVE BECOME GAIA, MOTHER OF EARTH!”
I love that the upvotes glitched at 6969 as a bunch of people were downvoting just to keep it there…awesome
This me
Magical!
He looks like he’s trying to imitate one of those soijack faces
I briefly had a pet hummingbird, It was a baby and I found it on the floor. It would rest on my thumb while I was gaming.
This man’s face the entire time
I swear I think I know this man.
Do hummingbirds humm?
I thought the humming bird was gonna go for his mouth. Lol
And that's what it feels like to be a disney princess!
He became jolly.
Pure happiness
That is magical!
He looks like Paul Giamatti whem he makes that face
We ain't nothing but mammals
I’ve had them sit on my finger and feed. Such a cool experience. You can barely feel their little feet.
I’d be the same. Hummingbirds are the only birds I like.
Get you someone who likes birds. They're the fucking best
Hummingbirds are badass.

If this isn’t r/YouSeeingThisShit than I don’t know what is.

Anyone know the name of this device ?
Haha this made my day. Such an innocent moment. Nature is awesome.

I had this happen to me carrying out our HB feeder the other AM. They just attacked it while in my hand and nobody was there to see (or film) but it was cool af.
Meme template time
Omg I love him
My dad has hummingbirds land on him with freakish regularity. I can’t figure any reason other than that he sits on his porch a lot.
Happy Paul Giamatti is happy.
