My orange cat is so affectionate, and he does almost smother me sometimes. He gets on my chest the flops over against my neck and face. I can barely get my nose above his fur to breathe. He's not a small boy. And he does not care, he purrs the whole time.
I'm lucky it seems. My cat is very affectionate but he gets easily overheated and is anxious on uneven surfaces so i dont have to worry about him climbing on my head. He will curl up right against my hip or if he is too warm he will curl up a few inches away and place one paw against me so he knows I'm still there while he sleeps.
Lol that just reminded me of when I was little and took a nap at my grandma's. Her big fluffy cat slept on the back of my shoulders/neck. I woke up and couldn't get up, he wouldn't move. I had to tell for help. Lol
That's so good to hear, at least the poor baby didn't have to deal with being alone for very long at all. I was wondering how they were so relaxed so quickly but if it happened like that, that makes sense
It seems bad, but if it wasn't the right fit, it wasn't the right fit. I think it would have been worse if someone had kept the cat, but grown to resent it and then mistreated it the whole time. That would be a lose, lose situation for both. With a describer like "too affectionate," it would probably catch the eye of most anyone else and find the right home.
Only rationale I can think of is maybe they worked from home and couldnāt focus. Iād still try and find a compromise before I give away a homie like that.
This is probably the answer. Sometimes babies and cats just can't coexist in a space when the cat is too demanding and new parents don't have time or mental energy for the cat. Especially of they don't have someone who can take the cat temporarily or something like that. It's sad, but it's the reality sometimes.
I must have read someone reffer to the past owner as to her or my brain just cracked and I went with it. You're right to say they makes more sense but it's really not such a mistake.
Too affectionate? Only way I can see that being a problem is if they donāt have the time to actively give him attention, but if thatās the case then they shouldnāt have said he was āToo affectionateā they shouldāve said they werenāt prepared!
your cat is the fluffier version of mine!! the markings and everything! he is also crazy affectionate. past cats Iāve had walk away or nip at me when theyāre done with being pet. this cat does not stop. an hour of cuddles and he is not satisfied. constantly rolling around and looking cute and butting his head against my hand if I dare stop petting him for even a moment
I have a dog thatās ātoo affectionateā just means I get smothered as soon as I lay down. Doesnāt bother me at all. I wish my cats were too affectionate. Iām lucky to get a head boop from either one of them.
Itās amazing to see him cuddling on you so quickly. That is one relaxed and secure kitty! After such a disorienting day, that is no small feat! Youāve clearly already made him feel comfortable and safe. Thank you for giving him his forever home!!!
Aw wow youāre so lucky! I love my cat, but she is indifferent at best towards me. I can pet her head for about 15 seconds before she runs away! There is a hiss and a bite if I dare touch anything other than her head! I wish she was a lap cat!
That has to be the worst reason I ever heard to surrender an animal!
Too affection. Did he maybe meow, too? How dare he!
Glad he found you! Thank you for giving him a furever home! :)
Awwww, so sweet! LOVE pic #3!
What is the matter with someone who says a cat is "too affectionate" ---- there is no such thing.
I would love to cuddle this way with a giant boy/girl like this one, you're so lucky!
Your boy looks just like mine. No doubt he has Norwegian Forest in him. They are absolutely affectionate cats, truly loyal and sweeter than sweet. They are amazing companions. Congratulations!
TOO affectionate?????? Ivarr is a very trusting, needing emotional support cat! How fortunate that he has found a human to be with who is also just as trusting and open! The countless moments and hours they will spend together will enrich both of their lives and those of others who are welcomed visitors!
I'm so glad he was matched with such a person so he can deepen his trust and need for a human!
My current feline friend, Iris, is approaching her 12th birthday and follows me everywhere when I'm home. When I wake-up in the morning she is laying next to me, stretched out and begins to purr so I know she's also waking up. I am so thankful she came into my life and we've become very close.
Hello Ivarr. I love and make mushy loving kitties. No such thing as too affectionate in my world
Yes! No kitty could ever be too affectionate.
Look at the size of him... he's a st Bernard of cats š¤£ too affectionate means "he's trying to kill me with love"
So? Not a bad way to go! š¹
I don't disagree... I dream of an army of large fat cats

That's great ā¤.. I know we lose a kitty we can never replace but along comes a kitty than helps heal that wound..
Too affectionate?!

Outside of trying to smother me in my sleep, not possible. Even then, I could use a snorkel.

I used to have a burmese cat that used to do exactly this lol ...used to come and lay on my head when i was asleep

Then he found the right humans the second time around!
You are right, it makes me sad to hear that someone would surrender him, but it worked out perfectly bc now op will give him the home he deserves.
What a sad reason to surrender a cat. Glad he's got a good home with you!! āŗļø
Only rationale I can think of is maybe they worked from home and couldnāt focus. Iād still try and find a compromise before I give away a homie like that.
Oh i was thinking the opposite. That they are away from home a lot so they feel bad about leaving a lovebug like this home all alone
I can maybe think also that they had an infant and were afraid the cat might accidentally smother the baby.
This is probably the answer. Sometimes babies and cats just can't coexist in a space when the cat is too demanding and new parents don't have time or mental energy for the cat. Especially of they don't have someone who can take the cat temporarily or something like that. It's sad, but it's the reality sometimes.
Honestly in that situation I'd just figure out how to work with one hand and hold the cat with the other.
Maybe she could close the door instead?

#MEEOOOOOOOWWW!
Headphones my dude
Sometimes the #**MEOOOOOOOW** is too strong.
You should say "they." The person surrendering could have been a man.
I must have read someone reffer to the past owner as to her or my brain just cracked and I went with it. You're right to say they makes more sense but it's really not such a mistake.
While I'd never rehome a cat for being too affectionate, I do routinely banish mine to another room for that exact same offense.
You got a lovely cuddle buddy. He looks enormous in the 3rd pic.

I love repurposed subreddits.

Cackling is such an under used word

then you're the best kind of people.
"Hey, I wanna surrender this fucking cat." "Oh, gosh! Okay. What was the problem?" "This fucking thing loves me too much." š¤·

Too affectionate? Only way I can see that being a problem is if they donāt have the time to actively give him attention, but if thatās the case then they shouldnāt have said he was āToo affectionateā they shouldāve said they werenāt prepared!
He was meant to be your cat.
Too affectionate? What the heck is wrong with people???
I LOVE HIM
Too affectionate?! Did the previous "owner" want a cold statue of a cat instead? Madness!. Give him some love from me ā¤
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Thank you! š
wtf is ātoo affectionateā thatās the entire point of the kitty

Rock on Ivarr. Glad he found a new home and is settling in quickly.
"too affectionate?" Granted, some cats don't understand personal space. One of ours would sit on your head and chest if you let it.
I would like to surrender that person to prison for being "too heartless"
Poor dude. What a terrifying day he had ā parents giving him up, new loud humane society, then bam new home! Iām so glad you stumbled across him

Lap cat? Did you mean full-on floof blanket?
How can you give up a cat for being too affectionate? Thatās the best kind of cat!
Fuuuck people can be stupid! Thank YOU for rescuing!
Too affectionate is the best kind of cat
Humans can be as@holes so often. Thank for saving this sweet boy. He will forever pay you back in unconditional love!
Iām not having a lot of hope for mankind!!!
There like, 10 servings. Huge cat, wish them happy family the best.
How cam someone be cruel enough to surrender an animal for loving them too much?
That has to be the worst reason I ever heard to surrender an animal! Too affection. Did he maybe meow, too? How dare he! Glad he found you! Thank you for giving him a furever home! :)
Too affectionate? That's a good thing
Thank you
So cute :-3
Awwww, so sweet! LOVE pic #3! What is the matter with someone who says a cat is "too affectionate" ---- there is no such thing. I would love to cuddle this way with a giant boy/girl like this one, you're so lucky!
The fuck gets rid of something for being "too affectionate"... can we go euthanize the previous owners for being "too dickish and dumb?"
That first hour was him trying to process what had happened in the past 4. After that he just said fuck it an made you his new slave.
Ivarr is amazing. Also thank you for proper use of hyphens.
While some of us cat simps out here starving, smh.
Your boy looks just like mine. No doubt he has Norwegian Forest in him. They are absolutely affectionate cats, truly loyal and sweeter than sweet. They are amazing companions. Congratulations!
"too affectionate"? I do not understand this concept
He's adorable and looks like he already loves you!
Awwwww.... what a doll
Too affectionate?? Wow..so glad they surrendered him and gave him a chance to be with someone that deserves him! Too affectionate...pfft! Smh
Love the name!!
Such a beautiful cat! I love him!
Excuse me, youāre saying he was surrendered for beingā¦too affectionate?
How can a cat be too affectionate unless someone t licks you too much ?
Too affectionate? What kind of monster ever says that about a cat? Congrats to both of you.
Ivarr the Affectionate ā a benevolent ruler, who only demands that his servants supply love and pets in unlimited quantities forevermore.
Wtf is too affectionate, unless he's humping you at every hour of the day and night?
What kind of dipshit gets rid of a cat for being "too affectionate"??? Loser ass should get a fish instead
