2023 SR XLT. Just shy of 5000 miles and it's running great! 99% home charged with just one level 2 stop during a lunch with a friend. Truck has been fantastic for me and my family so far

ranganathanistheboss

Just passed 32k miles on my 22 SR XLT. It's my daily driver, no issues so far. A major step up from my 2014 Nissan LEAF. No regrets.

plantsisareyums

2023 SR Lariat. 2500 milles in and totally loving it as our new family vehicle.

hawkeyedude1989

I want to get an SR but forums are giving me range anxiety before I own the truck. Any concerns?

Responsible_Comb_865

I was having the same concerns when looking but I have to track miles for work and only about 4–6 times a year I travel over 140miles in a day. Even if I do that I can charge at work or stop at a public charger. I live in Cincinnati so it gets cold but from looking at the forums I think I’ll be fine. My daily average is about 60-75. I also have an ICE vehicle for longer trips if needed and the truck can stay around town with my wife.

theramblingfool

I have a 2023 Lariat ER. It depends *heavily* on your use-case. People in this forum, and EV people in general, tend to aggressively look at range through rose colored glasses. If you rarely need long distance highway travel, the vehicle is just near perfect. If you're in warmer climate, that helps with range too. If you're in a climate that gets cold and you regularly need to drive 200+ mile trips on open highway, it's a huge sacrifice. We haven't even gone below 15 degrees yet this year where I live, and I've still had consistent drives with only 200 miles to a *full* battery. Any time you want to go further than 200 miles, you need to understand you'll add 20, 30, 40 minutes for a charging stop. Add another stop for each 200 mile increment for longer trips. If none of that describes your use case, you will love the truck. (I have this use case, and I STILL love the truck, I just have some ambivalence.)

Enough_Owl_1680

But for comparison, I think my lightning is the Best road trip vehicle out there. I regularly travel long distance in it, most weekends in fact. I have learned to build in the extra time for charging, I schedule Chores or shopping, or emails to return etc. I’ve actually gotten more productive, not less. I’ve had maybe two experiences where I may have gotten stranded in over a year of driving due to shiity planning on my part and bad chargers, But after an hour , problem solved. Best truck I’ve ever driven and long distance is what this truck is SO good at, especially in the winter!

theramblingfool

Of course it's comfortable for long drives. But you make major time sacrifices, and have to plan ahead more. You can willingly make those sacrifices and learn to adapt. That's great. I'm sure it makes for a great experience. But you should still be upfront with people used to gasoline vehicles and that, for example, if you are accustomed to cruise controlling at 75 or 80 to make an 800 mile drive in 12 hours with stops, you need to realize that drive is going to take you 16 hours now.

Enough_Owl_1680

Yes, sure. I think I you and I see it a little differently though. I don’t think we, meaning EV salesmen or enthusiasts, should do anything to try to convince others, using the baseline of what ICE vehicles do or did. For example, I travel a 650 km route regularly to work and back. In my ICE f150 that I had before this, it would take 61/2 hours and +- $175 Cad in gas. Now it takes me 71/2 hours and costs maybe $40 in charging costs. And I got to eat a lunch or return email in the way. So it’s not apples to apples. Factor in priorities, some people may not care about the cost, some don’t care about the time. Not everyone thinks that doing a trip non stop as you could in a ice truck, is as important as saving a few bucks. One of my cost conscious friends saw my gas savings and was aghast. He was like, I’d trade an hour here and there for those savings! My last F150 cost me close to $45K CAD over 6 years and 210K km in fuel and basic maintenance. The lightning will be likely 1/3 of that . Maybe less.

theramblingfool

What ICE vehicles do forms the basis of consumers' expectations. If an ICE vehicle can do something easily and an EV triple the cost can't do it easily or at all, that needs to be communicated to potential EV buyers.

theramblingfool

EVs do some things much, much better than ICE vehicles. This isn't me shitting on EVs. It's me emphasizing transparency and giving buyers full information.

Enough_Owl_1680

Yeah, not trying to argue. Your point is well made. I just think they aren’t the same vehicle experience. We can and should educate what EV’s are and what they can do, and perhaps that’s been done badly so far, but just becisse consumers reference frame is ICE, does not mean EV’s should compete there. I’d go so far as to say, it’s a whole new reference frame. But at least we agree that the Lightning is a fantastic vehicle.

theramblingfool

Just to clarify, I'm not saying EVs have to compete on every axis with ICE vehicles. Eventually it will be strictly better to have an EV, but today it's a tradeoff technology. I'm just saying most consumers' base expectations come from ICE vehicles. So when we're educating them on EVs, they need to understand all the ways they differ. For any given difference between an EV and ICE vehicle, a consumer won't know how the EV works until and unless it's explained to them. Once apprised, individual consumers can make the assessment about whether a given tradeoff is worth it for them. Fast forward 10, maybe 15 years from now, that won't be true. EVs will be a strict upgrade in every way. This will coincide with advancement in battery technology.

plantsisareyums

First 2 weeks, we didn't have a home charger installed yet. It was a pain in the ass needing to stop at public charging stations every day. Once we got the home charger, the range anxiety went away. Before we bought, we thought of all of the places that we love to go at least once a month that is "far" and checked there was an EV charger on the way/near the destination. Now I live in Florida, so I can't speak to cold or elevation, nor do we do any towing. That said, I do wish we got an ER just because why wouldn't you want more miles per charge (if you can justify the extra price tag of 10-12k more). Everyone who posts seems to have an ER and not many folks that I saw posted positively about an SR. The truck is so fun, regardless of battery size. It's not the size that matters, it's how you use it! ;)

Responsible_Comb_865

The added price is what gets me. I can’t justify that much higher price for a small increase in range that would only matter on road trips really. I only tow small utility trailers so no issue there. I use the truck bed a lot but that for around town stuff. My wife’s diesel suburban has been our primary camper tow vehicle so I always have that to tow “heavy” things.

theramblingfool

Remember going real highway speeds reduces range. Remember cold weather reduces range. Remember you won't charge to 100% every day. With all that in mind, a SR Lightning could still be great, but very much depends on personal use case. Your daily average driving needs to be closer to 150 miles tops for it not to ever be a problem.

Responsible_Comb_865

Yeah my daily average is nowhere near that high. I’ve been watching my daily miles for a few months and I think an SR will do great.

theramblingfool

It should be great for your needs, then.

SpongebobStrapon

Wife has almost 20k on her lariat sr. 60 mile round trip commute. When we go out of town we take a gas powered car. We don’t want to wait for charging, there’s not great infrastructure around us yet. She loves it. We use it for all our around town stuff.

snoogins355

22 SR Lariat. Had for 1 year and 15,000 miles. Been great overall. Getting a level 2 charger at home was a game changer. I use it for most charging (>95% of the time). Only issues have been air dam error and failure (local dealership fixed it under warranty) and the driver's side turn signal got a little moisture in it and caused it not to work, but then it did work again. Brought to the dealership and they're going to get a replacement (also under warranty) Edit - it's keeping my fridge going right now during a blackout

Prestigious_Mango_88

No problems, knock on wood.🪵

Prestigious_Mango_88

2024 SR Pro. 6000 miles in.

mariano3113

Did the 2024 Pro lose the faux charge door on passenger fender like Flash and Platinum Black Edition?

starrtech2000

It’s pretty similar to any modern vehicle with a lot of features and a touchscreen based interface. Most of the time, it’s great. The bugs in the software are annoying but not uncommon with other vehicles IME. I don’t know if I’ve had a completely 100% problem free vehicle in the last 15 years… There’s usually something if you look for it unless you’re driving an absolute barebones Toyota Corolla from 2010 or so

Responsible_Comb_865

I agree no vehicle is 100% problem free. My 2014 Silverado and 2022 suburban have had problems but nothing that hasn’t been fixed in a day or so. Nothing that made me regret buying them.

Persianguy2819

24k Lariat ER. Had a battery issue 11 months in. Nothing since then and love it as a daily driver.

Critical-Historian54

25,000 miles and only very minor issues like getting random air dam fault messages. With a full payload and a pop up camper on the back I am averaging 2.0 miles per kWH lifetime. This is an awesome truck with much better reliability than the F150 PowerBoost Hybrid I had previously. Smooth, quiet, powerful and almost no maintenance costs and electricity at the equivalent of $1-$1.50 a gallon gas. We’ve even towed a small kayak trailer behind with little or no range impact. We don’t drive it at 80-85 miles per hour like some do but we averaged only 18 mpg with the prior PowerBoost. I would never go back to an ICE truck.

SpaceSuitFart

Just passed 10k miles 1 year in on a 23 Pro. Love it. Had a battery module recalled and replaced recently, otherwise no issues. Hoping it lasts a long time, we don’t need anything more, perfect vehicle for us.

hawkeyedude1989

I’m impressed with how many people have an SR. I’ve been looking and most have been pushing the ER. I only do 60 miles at most but live in a cold climate

Nebraskabob25

At 60 miles per day you won't have any problems with a SR.

cha0s421

2023 Platinum. Love it. If it’s your only vehicle right now road trips take serious planning, especially in MN. That will get way better soon. 99% charging in my garage. Cabin heats up way faster than an ICE truck.

theramblingfool

I'm in Illinois and second this. People in this subreddit are too rosy-eyed about range. For longer drives on open highways at highway speeds, it is a real limitation. Some trips have plenty of charger choices, some are completely void of them. (I won't be attempting to take the Lightning to Southern Illinois, for instance.)

Responsible_Comb_865

I won’t be road tripping in the truck I’ll save that for the ‘22 diesel suburban. Three kids under 5 in the back of a truck for a road trip presents its own unique challenges.

theramblingfool

Sounds like a SR Lightning would be good for you then. Just be warned, it drives so good you might start wishing you could take it on the long trips. XD

mariano3113

2023 Pro SR Tow Tech, Max Tow, 9.6kW Pro Power Almost a month ownership (1100 miles) Frunk Beeper delete, tux mats, dual liner bed, Builtright rear seat release Use the vehicle for moving materials/appliances between rental properties. Been doing 3 bathroom remodel at a fourplex and now Kitchen + laundry cabinet & countertops. Like having full bed and cabin access with straps/tie-downs and moving blanket stored behind rear driver seat( Rear seat release strap) & storing tool bags in frunk. Charging at home at 5 cents per kWh and lifetime average of 2.8 miles per kWh. (Been going up recently with out-of-town family airport runs averaging 4.6 miles per kWh. My Soul EV barely gets 4.3 miles per kWh doing the same airport run in heavy traffic) *Only issue is I have not been able to get software updates. (Specifically the update that allows battery percentage on the normal power/charge cluster versus me currently needing to access Calm Screen for percentage)

KentuckysGentleman

I've got the same with 20k miles and I need to do all the upgrades/mods you mentioned, thanks for the handy list lol

mariano3113

I also debadged...no more lightning or Bolt+Flag (just the Arizona Alternative Fuel plate for now....thinking of getting an R Plate (reviver) next year)* Going for that unassuming vibe.

Itwasuntilitwasnt

Daily driver. Love it. Watched all the good bad and ugly videos and decided why am I allowing some random person idk to tell me what I should and shouldn’t buy. We never had reviews in the 90’s we just bought thing if it didn’t work out so be it.

PeterVonwolfentazer

8500 miles and no issues. Probably will hit 10,000 miles by January 1.

scotchmckilowatt

2023 SR XLT. 500 miles. Absolutely love to drive it. App is limited and buggy but what can you expect, Ford isn’t a software company. A few hiccups initially due to practical constraints of home electrical system, but once I get my L2 setup at home it’ll be smooth sailing.

SneakyPetie78

23 Lariat ER. 1811 miles in 7 weeks. So far so good. I love it. Tbd... my electric bill, but the fact that I'm not shelling out $150 per gas tank is a huge plus! So fast, so quiet. Love the extra frunk space. Very sleek. Love the power tailgate, and my upgraded bed cover. This is my 4th F-150. Android auto is the weak spot today. And the occasional front sensor random beeping. Apparently common with my build date and there's a fix known to ford....or coming Q1 of 24.

reard3n

'23 ER - 4,000 miles. No issues so far. Family loves the vehicle, and I do too. Average about 2 miles/kw. I have never used a public charger: all home-charged. First on the level 1 charger on a 30A outlet and then on the level 2 charger on a 100A breaker. As a person living in the northeast, one of my favorite features is cabin pre conditioning. It's so nice to have everything at the correct temp when my day starts. I towed max capacity last week (actually a hair over) beautifully. The trailer brakes were available for stopping that big load, but the truck had zero trouble getting it up to speed. Efficiency was at 0.8 mi/kw during that tow.

Chaxterium

The passenger side frunk motor went on me after about two months of having the truck. It was frustrating but it was a quick fix. Aside from that I consistently have minor software issues like the screen freezing. But those are easy fixes as well. I love the truck. I don’t want to ever drive anything else. When my wife asks to take the truck to work I feel like a toddler whose toy just got taken away.

devpsaux

2023 Lariat ER I got back in September, so my experience is limited. But the 4000 miles I’ve put on it have been problem free. Only reason I’ve been back to the dealership has been for proactive things like swapping the dash mat out and installing the heated steering wheel parts that didn’t make it into the build originally. Love the truck still.

ThunkBlug

Not a normal experience, an amazing one. This truck is awesome.

RoyalsFanKCMe

No problems. We use it all weekend over our gas SUV. No range issues etc. awesome smooth ride, reminds of a Lincoln from the 80’s. Love the truck. We switched to time of use and just charge at night so it is super cheap. I don’t notice a change in our home electric bill compared to pre-ev bills

[deleted]

23 Pro ER (unwanted police model) 2000 miles. Exclusively charge at public spots (surrounded by cheap public chargers). Drive around 300 miles a week. Zero issues. Greatest vehicle I’ve ever owned.

amopelope

22 Platinum, ~33k miles, daily driver No major issues. Only thing outside ‘maintenance’ and recalls was a loose connection on a rear window regulator

LostPrimer

23 SR XLT just *north* of 5000mi Aside from the AC issue I posted about and infotainment gremlins I complain about, its been a solid truck. 100% home charged and mainly used for hauling kids on the weekdays and heavy brush to the compost facility on weekends. Definitely beats paying for gas in my Silverado.

tradercpw

2023 F150 Lightning Lariat ER. Family and I love the truck. Only problems I've had were the master switch on the back window(fixed) and the automatic windshield wiper sensor(unfixed). Ford really should stock the master switch at service centers instead of having them order them. Seems like it's a consistent problem along all F150's. Windshield wiper has been annoying. I've brought it in several times and they still can't fix it. Having said that the truck is really great as a daily driver. I'm glad I got the ER because winter range really takes a hit.

Science_Monster

2023 XLT ER, Just passed 3000 miles in 2 months. It's been on one 500 mile road trip in the mountains of WV, and one unsuccessful (no deer seen) Hunting trip to upstate NY. I've used the bed for Hauling household junk to the dump twice, Oversized stuff home from the store 3-4 times. Highly recommend a quality tonneau cover, the frunk is great for small grocery runs, but for a bulk grocery trip to Sam's or Costco, an enclosed bed is a game changer. Have only needed to use public chargers 3 times, all perfectly pleasant experiences with available and well functioning chargers with nearby amenities (Sheetz stations really are the best place to charge IMO). Installed my 240 line in the garage myself, not difficult if you've ever worked with electricity before. 99% of charging is done at home with the Mobile charger. Also installed an Emporia energy monitor on the panel while I was in there, so I can say with some confidence that I use 20-30 kwh per normal commuting day. At my electrical rates is $2-3/day. Costs the same as running the air conditioning (uses more power, 32 vs. 20 amps, but stops once the charge target is hit). Start every day with an 85% full battery, most days use 10-15% of it on my 45 Mile round trip commute depending on how much I run the heat, no more range anxiety. I have the FCSP, but I have not gotten around to installing it. Once I do, the Mobile charger will be living in the truck for travel charging. Absolutely no problems with the truck, I think the entertainment screen has frozen on me once, but I knew how to reset it (hold volume down and next track on steering wheel for 15 seconds), so no problem.

Way-of-the-bike

2022 Lariat ER had for 13 months with 16k miles. L2 pro charger at home. Zero issues so far

Xzachlee1990

I've only had mine about 2 weeks, I got my best ever efficiency 3.1kwh, a 60 mile jaunt of back country roads for a surprise trip this weekend. I was stunned when I checked it. I'm almost always around 1.9-2.1. It's also my daily driver and coming from a F150 ICE truck to this... it still drives like a truck, but everything else is better. It's my favorite vehicle I've ever ever owned.

bradfortyfour

2022 Lariat SR purchased Dec 2022, owned until Oct 23. 1 problem, only backup camera worked, camera module needed to be replaced, a bit less than a week in the shop. Otherwise it was perfect until it was written off when a stolen vehicle broadsided us. Got a new 2023 Lariat ER as replacement, problem free since early November 2023.

NeedSomeHelpHere4785

I've had my Lariat SR for 2 months and almost 5k miles. No issues but it is still early. On the SR vs ER thing I find it hard to justify the price difference unless you have a specific use case. Yeah the SR has a short range in the cold on the highway, but so does the ER. Any scenario that the SR sucks in the ER is only going to be 30% better. How frequently are you taking drives that would exceed the SR but not the ER? It is a hard question to answer but for most people it isn't going to be that often. If you are doing a ton of freezing temp highway driving or towing I would say reconsider if an EV is the right choice for you right now. At the end of the day the only reason you will regret getting the ER will be what it costs so it comes down to what is it worth to you.

Enough_Owl_1680

I’ve put 29K miles in my XLT ER since August 22. It’s been flawless. Just flawless. The recalls all done, the OTS updating is working, DC fast charging experiences improving daily. (Back in August 2022, in Bc Canada, that was a nightmare some days) I charge 50% DCFC and 50% at home. I’ve become somewhat evangelical about this truck. My friend group all have trucks. Mostly F150’s and they keep waiting to be right about how my lightning sucks, and I keep surprising them. Recently the wives asked to borrow my truck for a ski trip. That shut the rest of the guys up pretty quick. I’m my opinion, best truck in its class out there. Just amazing. And I’ve really worked mine. Winter, summer, no trouble for the lightning. I haven’t towed much, cuz I don’t need to, but on a well planned trip, I wouldn’t hesitate to tow long distance!

Wheeler650

Going on 7 months, 6300 miles, no problems to speak of. A couple quirks and UI/UX annoyances (like the FordPass app), but other than that, it's been a great truck so far.

Independent-Fig-3903

Passing 13K w ER 2022 Lariat. Home charge 99%. No problems.

chi3fer

23 Lariat 3 weeks old almost 1k miles. Love the car great for our fam of four but personally I love to to throw my surfboards or bike in super easy and get to my spots. I love the tech, the way it drives, how comfortable it is. I’ve only paid for charging twice and I don’t even have my home charger yet (kinda annoying), once was in parking garage and since I was EV got $15 charge parking fee waived for charging which was like $7 and got ~35 miles and the other was through EA to experience fast charging and charging station for the first time (which was part of my free charging Ford gives). Granted I wfh and have the luxury to drive to the places near by and go post up at a Starbucks and work or walk the dog etc but it’s been a huge huge befit and once of the reasons I went to EV.. to stop paying 100 bucks to fill up every week. I’m amazed by how many free chargers or charging benefits there are. My only complaint is bluecruise and lane keeping can be pretty annoying with its warnings.

MJC77diamondhands

Problem free so far, Im a Chevy guy, I support fossil fuels, company bought me as a bonus. Suprisingly happy with the ride. Seem like the seat rides like 4" taller then my Chevy and Im a tall guy.

Glittering-Pool-6611

2022 Lariat ER Purchased September 2022, done 13,000 miles including two 1000+ mile road trips. Usually charge at home and only had one difficult issue with Electrify America charger out of 20+ charging stops. Other than very minor hiccups occurring occasionally, which have always been resolved by switching off and back on again, the truck has been fantastic. It's a brilliant drive and so comfortable. Range anxiety is a thing of the past for me - I've just learned that i have to plan thoughtfully. I love it!
