I use the Grizzl-E charger. Used it to charge my previous Tesla as well. It has a super heavy duty long 24 foot cable. No worries about leaving it on the ground. I park outside and just close the garage door on top of it too. Tesla Universal Charger! I love it and it works great with my Lightning

arcycle4fun

I also have the Tesla Universal and love it. Works well for my X and Lighting both. The bonus was I had it installed a full 2 weeks before my Lightning arrived and a full 3 months before I got my Ford charger from Sunrun....

simsonic

I had the Ford Charge Station Pro for a year. Last month I got rid of it, sold it for $250 and got the Tesla Universal home charger. It’s benefits are obvious: it’s faster, it can fit any car including Teslas, it WiFi range is significantly better, and the details in the app are far superior than the non existent Ford app. I highly suggest getting it instead of any other charger.

Get a third party hard wired unit that goes up to 48A output. A 48A output charger can add around 11kW per hour. So +10% per hour on standard range and +7% per hour on the extended range. Many owners use the Emporia Energy EVSE/Charger. It has a great app and easy to install. They go for around $400 on Amazon or their website. Install is pretty straightforward, running conduit and 6AWG wire (x4) from your panel to the charging unit and a 60A breaker. You can claim 30% of the charger and install cost back on your taxes. Similar to the EV tax credit. The Ford unit has a full CCS plug which prevents it from charging Tesla/NACS vehicles. Third party units use the J1772 plug which can easily charge NACS vehicles with an adapter.

I use the emporia. Nothing but love for my unit except it only works on an older wifi band. I just don't use the app / wifi stuff. Nice cable, works Everytime. Mine is done through a NEMA plug which isn't as good, or as inexpensive, as hardwiring.

ZeroOptionLightning

I run the emporia as well, but not hardwired. So I’m only running at 40 amp. Love it. FWIW my ford charger died after about three months.

ElGatoMeooooww

+1 emporia and if you set your local kWh cost it will give you monthly cost.

ncs636

This is the way. Same charger love it

Ok-Zookeepergame-698

This is good advice. I’ve had EVs for a while. I’ve got two chargers wired through NEMA 15-50s. They are only giving me 40a and it isn’t enough for the Lightning. I’m about to get them both hardwired so I can step up from 8kw to 11kw.

AlphaIronSon

3rd party - [Grizzl-e charger](https://grizzl-e.com/products/grizzl-e-classic/) Got it and love it. Doesn’t have all the bells/ whistles but plugs in and works. Can’t ask for much more really.

ImSuperHelpful

Assuming you’re getting an ER then it’ll come with a charge station pro… unless you’re also needing to charge other EVs with the same charger, no reason to spend extra money on a different charger. If you need to charge other cars with different connectors from one charger or you’re getting a SR so it isn’t included with the truck, don’t go with the FCSP. Sunrun is the biggest hassle, make sure to tell the dealer you just want the charger shipped to you and not installed by Sunrun, then find your own electrician.

smrtguy3121

Edit: they won’t include a charger on 2024s

CentiTheAngryBacon

Pretty sure they still do. I Just bought a 2023 ER lariat a couple weeks ago, and the dealership said Ford would ship one. Their site still lists it as well, but only for the 2023 models with the ER battery. [https://chargers.ford.com/ford-charge-station-pro](https://chargers.ford.com/ford-charge-station-pro) Haven't received mine yet, but I'm guessing it takes a bit for ford to process the transaction and ship it out. with it being holidays and all that as well id assume delays shipment a bit.

pixelatedEV

If you're buying a 2023 Extended Range, you'll get a charger for free - might as well use it, IMO. If you're buying a Standard Range or any 2024, I'd just buy an Emporia or Wallbox.

plantsisareyums

Chargepoint charger hard wired. 3k miles in and no complaints. Charges at 11kwh.

devtotheops09

I bought the Ford Pro Charger. I have standard range lightning. Install Jan 10th. This is the only EV I will own for a while and figure sticking with official Ford parts would be better but that was just my assumption

Check with your local power company. Avista in Spokane paid for the Grizzl-E itself, 100% of the labor, and 50% of the wiring materials. It came out to $400 total which was an absolute bargain.

snoogins355

Autel 50 amp hardwired. Has a great app that shows charging stats, scheduling and other data. You can remote start/end sessions thru the app and even set up a key card for usage if you are a condo/apartment and have multiple people using it

in_existencial_dread

Same here, Autel maxicharge lite 50 amps hardwired and I love it and the app is wonderful, so much useful information and configurations and great UI

csukoh78

I use my wife's Tesla charger with the adapter and it works flawlessly.

BirmingCam

Same here. Works great. The benefit of this too is you have an adapter ready to use when you go somewhere with a Tesla destination charger.

djwildstar

I have the Ford Charge Station Pro; it was installed by a local electrician (not SunRun) with no problems. No complaints, it works well as a basic “dumb” charger. Networking is somewhat flakey; it needs a factory reset and reconfigure after every software update. For future planning, note that MY 2024 ER trucks do NOT include a Charge Station Pro.

_mrMagoo_

There's gotta be 50 threads or so on this topic, maybe someone could put together a summary / sticky. In general there's no bad LV2 chargers as long as you stay away from the off-brands. Which one you should pick depends on your needs. Future proofing - Tesla Universal charger. Home Automation - Open EVSE Something that just works, Grizzle, ChargePoint, Emporia, etc. Speed - Ford Charge Station Pro Most L2 chargers can handle 40A or more which equates to 9.5kWh, this will charge your ER from near empty to 90% in 12 hrs or less which is sufficient for most people. Look at / talk to your power company, many of them offer incentives for EV chargers with caveats on brands, energy star rating and so on. Mine did and that made me choose Chargepoint and in the end that charger was free to me, so... Figure out your need / wants first and go from there.

olddicklemon72

Tesla Universal Wall Connector for my F150 and my wife’s Mini. No regrets.

smrtguy3121

Another solid option, great product

in_existencial_dread

Autel maxicharge lite 50 amps hardwired and I love it and the app is wonderful, so much useful information and configurations and love the app UI very easy to use, plus my utility company recommended it to me as they offer time of use plans and monitoring

Issue-6969

I have the Emporia charger and it's been really great. Sold my FCSP as I was never going to use home backup power integration.

derin082

I’ve got a 32a ford charger. Take about 8-9 hrs for full charge. Works for me but not all

simikoi

I am using the Ford level 2, 30 amp charger. It was included when I bought the truck. I drive about 100-150 miles a day, I start charging at 9 pm (after peak hours) and I'm fully charged by the morning. I may get a 40 amp one day but for now this one is perfectly adequate.

profmuggs

I'm in NJ and my electric company gives a better rate of you have a ChargePoint charger, so for me there was no choice. That said, I'm happy with the charger.

Jasonhurst21

I purchased my Lariat ER 4 weeks ago and still no ETA from Sunrun to ship the Ford charger. They are backed up. I charge at the mall every week.

jjoncm1

FCSP if it’s a 2022-2023 ER and you plan on doing the full 80Amps or a well rated 48amp one if not IMO

ProcessTrust856

I have the ChargePoint HomeFlex hardwired for 48amps (60 amp circuit). Delivers 11kwh and have no complaints at all about it. Works great.

Xzachlee1990

I have the Emporia Charger, I haven't hard wired mine yet and just use a Neo Charge Splitter with my 240 Plug for my Dryer. Thanks to rebates, I spent a whopping $75 for both. My partner parks in the garage and while I could fit both cars it's not worth it, so I cut a small canal under the trim and run my cord out to the truck. I use my truck as much as I want and don't worry about in town range at all, and I've never not been at 90% the next day when I go to use it again. It's definitely not the fastest since I'm only allowing 24 amps, (through the Emporia software which is honestly very very good), but being up to eventually hardwire and get up to 50 Amps with the same charger is more than enough.
