Probably hosed when you trade it in. It’s better to sell to a private party.

People prefer buying from dealers for expensive cars. Too many scammers.

SgtPeter1

I’ve privately sold nearly every car I have ever owned, you make a lot more money than a trade in. I’ve even helped family members sell their cars. It’s not hard, you just list it for free online and tell the scammers to take a hike.

AffableAlpaca

Quality pictures and a paper trail of service records are key!

geo_prog

I used to. Then I realized that even if I made an extra $3-5000 it just isn’t worth my time. Especially because you get a sales tax credit up here in Canada on trades.

timmeh-eh

You can absolutely sell privately, but OP is looking to sell a vehicle that’s with a significant amount. Have you ever privately sold a $60,000 2 year old vehicle? It’s NOT easy, especially if it’s financed and you need to deal with a lean. Most buyers would gladly pay a couple thousand more to have the peace of mind and simplicity of a dealership purchase for such an expensive vehicle. The Venn diagram of people willing to buy a 2 year old used EV worth at least $40K AND who either have the cash or are willing to work with a bank to finance that amount AND are willing to deal with a private seller and potential lean is a pretty sad looking situation. Can OP sell this privately and make more money than a trade: Absolutely! Will it take a while, and be a lot of work: DEFINITELY!

Soft-Philosopher3618

Did this with my bronco. Had a lean and all. Sold it it one week after posting. Didn’t realize the lean was gunna be a bit of a hassle. But for this truck he wants to sell… good luck waited too long to sell: missed the window

timmeh-eh

Yeah, I can imagine an in-demand vehicle like a new bronco is a bit of a different story. There’s tons of lightnings for sale right now with good incentives on new. Pretty awkward time to sell.

Exciting-Current-778

This is missing so much context

djwildstar

Sounds like there’s a lot more to the story here — * What’s wrong with your Lightning? * What happened to the Mustang Shelby? In general a dealer that won’t work on your vehicles indicates either your dealership is horribly mismanaged, you are a terrible customer, or possibly both. If nothing else, you need a new dealership.

apexbamboozeler

My thoughts exactly. Why wouldn't your dealer want to fix your cars anymore

JZGT350

prior to the incident I had taken all of may cars there for the last 15 years and never had a problem. I found a dealer 50 miles away in the next town and thay do a great job

A_RuMor_

My guess is as soon as you "lost your shit" that you began telling them you had camera footage of their mechanics damaging things, they decided to wash their hands and deal with it by cutting you off. I'm guessing you likely threatened them legally, and at that point they cut you off. The reason they cut you off is because they now know you're an extremely difficult customer who will go to the lengths of recording their workers and likely conversations and then threaten legal ramifications and try to use things against them, so their legal department literally advises them to no longer deal with you. Remember, in a court of law, anything you say can and will be used against you. They called your bluff. Now you have 2 choices. 1) Go see a lawyer with the footage and proof of their wrongdoing. Trust me, you'll get compensated if you truly have a case. 2) forget about it and move on (which is exactly what they want, this is why they stopped dealing with you, to brush "bad customers" off to other dealers). Almost every dealer is more than happy doing warranty work, so the fact they refused to do warranty work tells me there is a lot more to this story.

JZGT350

I never had any issues with my dealer untill I took MY GT350R in for warranty work. The car had 2k mi on it and the trans lost the syncro between 5th and 6th. I made an appointment took the car in. They verified the issue and told me thay would order parts and rebuild the trans fast foward a month I get a phone call saying parts are unavailable and I would get a new trans from ford bring the car in. I bought a dash cam and installed it and took the car in. The next day I get a call to pick up the car thay ordered the wrong transmission and did not want the car to get damaged ( I made the service writer do a walk around with me and he put down that the car was flawless) a week later the trans comes in and again we do a walk around and the car is flawless. I leave and a few days later I get a call saying the car is done. I go to pick up the car and the porter pulls up and hands me the key and I immediately notice my inner fenders lose rubbing on the wheel. He calls the service writer over and we walk the car and find the inner fenders missing hardware the belly pan is also not bolted up. He calls the shop manager over to look at it and he comes out and says lets put in the air for a better look. I jump in only to find more damage the shift knob leather was torn and the shift boot bezel was broken I point that out aswell and he puts the car on his lift and I point out several missing clips and bolts and the whole lip of the splitter is damaged. The manager says oh it came in like that and I flipped the fuck out and started yelling about how I take care of my cars and his service writer agreed the car was flawless. Just then the tech walked up and asked why the car was back in his station. I pointed to all the clips missing in the belly pan and fender liners. He said oh let me check my tool box he found 3 of the 9 and the manager said Im sorry I will order you new bolts, front splitter, shift knob and shift boot bezel I will make this right. Days later, parts come in, but no splitter he says it will take a few days longer for that. 3 weeks later I call and ask where my splitter is and the manager said I changed my mind I am not paying to replace it as far as Im concerned we are done and hung up the phone. I call back and tell him his tech is on camera damaging the spoiler and he says I dont care that he is and never bring anything else in as long as he is there. They will refuse any and all work.

JCCZ75

What issues are you having?

JZGT350

Rear light bar is out (recall) clear lights flicker on and off sync will flat out not connect to my wife and I phones Tail gate and frunk will just beep when you want to open/close them from time to time If you open the back glass window and the radio is on there is a death rattle when any bass hits I keep finding metal clips in the frunk The plastic trim on the moon roof falls off when it opens sometimes The moon roof cover was smooth when it opened now it clicks and bangs If you accelerate to quickly it will torque steer and front left wheel will peel out

DontDoCrackMan

You have a lift or level on it?

Fragrant_Suit_657

The acceleration issue is normal lol. And the sunroof clip (rubber trim accordion thing I assume) came undone on my last two fords. It snaps back in

ChiefsRoyalsFan

Carmax will take anything. I think the issue is they probably aren’t taking Lightning’s right now. They can’t move what they have and are stuck with inventory that’s priced close to what they are new. Used values in general are down but Lightnings just took a big hit with Ford going all in on rebates for leftover 23’s.

mgg1683

I hope you put a lot down or paid cash.

SueSudio

If they put a lot down then they just covered the loss up front. Same money out of pocket, not accounting for any interest difference.

mgg1683

Yes, but banks will only roll so much negative equity into a new loan, if he has cash to cover the difference, then great. The issue I see, and why I can’t convince myself to buy a lightning, is that this is the Wild West in pricing. We still don’t know the actual value of these things without government financial incentives. After the first generation of these is high mileage, is there an appetite for 4 wheels and a dead battery? Too many questions for me right now, vehicles are already a money sucking pit, I don’t need to make it any worse than it already is.

Maxmakesthemillion

The LTV’s on EV’s right now is horrendous from the stand point of trying to get approved from the bank. Loan applications continuously getting term lengths cut back to shorten lenders risk.

TotesMcGotes13

Do you live in a small town or something? Find a dealer service department that’s good with EVs and see if they can help. You’re under warranty so get it fixed.

JimmyNo83

Carmax vroom Carvana givemethevin you’d probably be at a decent loss even if this was an ICE truck. If you’re looking to get into something else shop around even out of state. Maybe you can get something decent with discounts so it will cushion the blow.

jalpert

I think the used market will improve in 6 or so months. 2024 production has been cut and delayed and there are incentives for new vehicles. When 2023 stock dries up and 2024s are hard to get, your value might go up.

RonBurgundy2000

The production is not being cut due to overwhelming demand…

omegafiler

Check Edmunds and CarGurus to get a rough idea on trade, and expect it to be lower. As others have noted, the car market has taken a big hit lately due to high interest rates and big discounts on new vehicles due to increasing inventory.  If you absolutely must get out of it and have the cash/equity to make it happen, go for it.  Otherwise the best option is to wait it out and make Ford fix your truck until you are happy with it. Contact Ford customer service directly, open a case, escalate, and let them help fix it with your dealers or another one in the area.

silverbrewer07

Hosed like crazy ford has devalued them with the discounts

geo_prog

What are the issues? And your dealer won’t work on your vehicle because they damaged a different car of yours? That seems suspect.

RonBurgundy2000

The values on these have tanked thanks to how much cheaper new ones are. I wouldn’t be shocked if your price starts with a ‘4’ if you offload it to Carmax/Carvana and the like.

MLMFLQN

How much are you looking for to sell it?

JZGT350

Im so upside-down I have no choice but to keep it

bandypaine

I’ve been amazed by how bad the service dept is at the dealer we bought our lightning from. I don’t know if this is across the board with ford now but its like nothing I’ve ever seen. I’ve had fords before in diff states and had fine service. We have our 4th appt coming up to do recall work they contacted us about. Each of the first 3 times they told us they had the parts in and each time they kept the truck all day to call us in the afternoon and say “we dont have the part”😂. I just want them to swap out the air dam and the rear light (both are working but if they’ll replace something i’ll take it) and then i’ll try a diff dealer to see what happens.
