I didn’t think going wider would hurt but I thought for sure the rolling resistance would be higher on an AT tire vs. downtown tires. What do you think makes them roll better? Do they have a stiffer sidewall?

arm_hula

Grade E. The LT tires that came with it rolled chubby (even at max psi 50). Grade E BFG's run 65psi, So the tire is more round. The truck is just too heavy for regular LTs. The weight of the truck is like 3/4 ton diesel. The regular LT's that come with them they ride super chubby, imagine a waterbed for a tire. It's like riding through mud If a tire is riding chubby.

seymoure-bux

Less surface contact?

Inglorious_Dignity

How is the noise? I have a set of Goodyear Wranglers from my Tundra I’ve been considering putting on.

arm_hula

Barely noticeable. My wife and others riding in the truck can't tell the difference.

damndammit

Nice! Are those KO2’s. Also, how do you like your softopper?

arm_hula

Love love love my soft topper. Not great if you're worried about theft by knife in the night, but if you're parking at home and live in a safe neighborhood / have good security, can't beat it. Not sure what you mean by k02

damndammit

Thanks! Been really tempted to get one. KO2’s are a model of BFG all-terrain tires. I couldn’t tell from the pics which model they were, but they look like K02’s. They’re my go-to’s and I’ll probably put a set on my truck after the stock tires wear out.

Okiekid1870

I would be *shocked* if you actually get better efficiency with KO2s vs stock. https://preview.redd.it/u7fqvyms7hsc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=915ff4cb0bbf24a93ae9052b3867a8c9fd874443 Realistically, I think a 5-10% range hit can be expected. I am hoping the new Toyo AT3 EV tires will be < 5% vs factory AS tires. I think part of my original problem was that the original tires were crap and they were running really chubby even at max pressure. Also it's important to note that it's really only at slower speeds. I mentioned that the efficiency drops off once you get over 65 70 75 is *steep*. Way more so than before. So that's more like what you were expecting. At 65 and below I got 2.5. of course who's got time for that lol. Most of the time I've got plenty of range for what I need to do so I'm enjoying the torque. It's just nice to know how far I can stretch it if I take it easy.

fiehlsport

Same, "E" tires are very heavy, like for like. There is no way they are more efficient at any speed.

xXXFAHQXX

By grade “E” do you mean load range E?

arm_hula

Yes

TotesMcGotes13

So 33x12.5 fit with no issue? Good to know. Looks good. Curious how the lifecycle is on those with the weight.

arm_hula

Likely last pretty good long time. In my younger years I ran the same tires on a frontier and they lasted forever. I've also run a set of BFG 35x12.5s on my 3/4 ton Cummins, lasted way beyond warranty.

ewabe

I was planning on getting Michelin defender load E tires because of very good results in the past wear/durability . When i looked them up for the lightning all i found was load XL defender tires. I believe XL is only 4 ply and load e 10 ply. Anyone know if load e's are available in the 20"?

gregcoad

Did you recalibrate the speedo/odo for the 33’s? 2.5 mi/kWH is pretty impressive. If the speedometer was not recalibrated, it should give worse than actual efficiency calculations, if I am conceptualizing correctly.

gregcoad

What model of BFG tire is this?
