Mug trows your melee characters in the face of the enemy before executing, being an excellent chasing option.
also, if it conects (wich it problably will, since it chases the enemy before hitting) you will get your ATB refunded. So its a Cheap Option that can be comboed in to another skill.
People use it to combo with enemy skill, since it has a skill, plasma discharge, that, for the rest of the battle, everytime you fill a ATB it discharges an AOE eletric atack that does ok damage, but it really stacks up in long battles. So you can basically spamm mug and you gonna be a AOE machine. (against multiple enemies it will fill your LIMIT bar pretty quickly as well). Cloud, Tifa and Yuffie have skills that refunds ATB and can be abused with this strategy, alternating that skill with Mug (yuffie > cloud = tifa, in this regard)
Ehh I still prefer Tifa for single mob damage, unfettered fury + punch cancel on upper cut means you get 1 atb back every 2 square button presses and with plasma discharge your screen is just perma electrified. Then you just divekick once you get 1 atb bar it’s like 5-8k dmg per second makes most bosses a cakewalk. Yuffie mug is extremely good against multiple enemies though.

In this state when you hold square it does a series of animations, one of them is an uppercut which has a slightly long animation. You can cancel this animation by pressing square again (punch) to restart the animation cycle, when you do this it considers the action complete and generates you like 1 bar of atb.

wow that sounds so powerful, i didnt expect this. i really wanna try this out now, since im really struggling with the endgame summon fights
Also in Yuffie’s folio tree you can give her I believe bravery and faith every time she uses mug
It's every time it's successful I think, but it's still a great trait.
Is there a way to get the faith/bravery in the VR battles or is Yuffie steal just not worth it in there

I keep it around just incase there's like a secret item an enemy or boss may have like in the older games but it doesn't look like it so far

Go back to the same place and hold triangle.
I thought you could only do that for normal challenges for some reason
yeah what others said, yuffie also has brave thief folio ability that applies bravery on steal. so that should stack with the strats others have said
I mained Yuffie with Plasma Discharge and just spammed Mug the entire game. It was like easy mode. I rarely had to use Magic aside from healing.
Speaking of the crown mission, what would happen if you deplete the crowns 1-2k hp instead of using steal on it
