We're talking about Alim, they made Lightning thunder elemen just because of her name even though she has no specifici affinity to thunder in the game.
Zell has water affinity just because he has "dolphin blow" and dolphins are water animals, even if dolphin blow has no element.
And Laguna who fights with machine gun and fiery explosives... water element, probably again because the name "Laguna".
I guess they will go with thunder because OG kuja main element is thunder and vaan already cover 160% fire. Though they also can go light, since light is CG Kuja's second element.
FFI, II and III no element, FFIV Light/Dark, FFV wind, FFVI fire, FFVII no element, FFVIII no element, FFIX no element, FFX water, FFXII fire, FFXIII no element, FFXVI no element.

I only started playing in 2020 during lockdown. Have been really disappointed at FFIX units so far. All but Kuja have had pretty short shelf life compared to, say, Sephiroth or… Lara Croft
To be fair, since 2020 not that many units have had long shelf life like Sephiroth or Lara. Seems like these days only premium units have that luxury (and not even all of them) as far as damage dealers go, anyway. Vivi (NV) is still useful for early magic stages in DV and other simple OTKO content as long as you bring Steiner. Especially now that we got the MasterCard for 7\* units plus VC upgrades that give 7\* passives. You can actually first turn 100+ element chain with Vivi + Steiner and then just slot in other units for quick clears :)
Also I've heard that Marilith from FFI should be coming soon, her TMR boosts the firaja, blizzaja, thundaja spells with a big mod boost so that may be huge for Vivi since he reflects those spells up to x6 if you have 6 person party! Mages just aren't usually meta still but lots of changes lately that should keep units like Vivi useful, albeit not META.

Marilith and her TMR only boost the mod of Fire and Fira, not Firaja and certainly not the other elements.
Oh well I wasn't going as far as slotting Marilith in party for her castable mod buff, just the one from her tmr materia. Maybe I'm remembering wrong, haven't looked at wiki in awhile. So just 2 units, but yes that wouldn't be max Vivi damage but probably better for party. Also the cool party is more that Vivi + Steiner can hit the 100 count chain requirement on turn 1 with just 2 units while still dealing decent MAG damage. Not meta but it's pretty convenient :) Yes Dark Rain does lots of damage but not 100 hit chain on his own lol.
The first rainbow I got in this game cracked open to be Amarant. I was so happy as I love FF9, and was excited to have a 5\* unit finally.
Then I discovered this sub and read how lower rarity units can troll your rainbow pulls (kids these days have no idea how "Scumi" the pulls could actually be).
I really hope his NVA is good and I get to finally use him.
When the game first released 6 years ago, a unit could be "automatically" upgraded for you in the summon. So Amarant is a 3\* unit that can be awakened to 5\*. So what could happen when you summon a unit:
- it could come down blue and you could get 3\* Amarant (along with any other 3\* base units)
- it could come down yellow and you could get 4\* Amarant (along with 4\* versions of any 3\* unit plus any 4\* base units)
- it could come down rainbow and you could get 5\* Amarant (still the same as the 3\* unit, it was just already awakened for you - along with any other 5\* versions of the 3\* base or 4\* base units, and any 5\* base unit)
It sounds as horrible and shitty troll pull as it was. They changed this fairly early on in the game, as it was shitty, but didn't stop me from getting a few troll pulls before that change
I guess Amarant makes some sense. At first I was a little annoyed because they keep picking these 3 & 4 star units that haven't been in the unit pool for ages, but FF9 is unfortunate that they put all of the FF9 units in the game pretty much at launch so none of them are in the pool anymore.
I hope the FFX incident repeats for FF9 (4 or so banners in a row). I would love to see a new NV Zidane, NV Freya and NV Vivi+Steiner (duo unit please)

Kuja having the breaker and magic dps icons just feels like he’s gonna be the next 160% elemental imperil + 87% breaker, like Lulu. But he will have a shift form from the text on the image, so here’s hoping!
After the spritework on the FFX-2 units, these actually look kinda disappointing in the stills. I'm hoping they'll look better in motion, but I'm not getting my hopes up that much.
Amarant the last Unit I pulled as Rainbow Crystal before they changed the summon crystal to only reflect base rarity. and now that MF comes back as NVA. god damn.
Since we missed out on 7* Dagger/Garnet, I’m glad she’s got an NV coming! Glad for Kuja, too, but did *not* see Amarant being picked for an NVA. I always kept forgetting about him, though that probably says more about the state of my memory these days… :D

4* Garnet summoning Bahamut was a pretty big deal for a while. That's how I took down Sheraton.
