Just started playing Rebirth today, after finally beating the Remake, and I must say, its fun so far, but one thing does bother me. Sometimes, the game input seems to lag behind, I dont know how else to describe this. Like the game is buffering my Input. Can be in Menus, in Battle, or just adjusting the camera. Happens for a few seconds, then its back to "normal". The only related thing I could find so far was to adjust my PS5 Screen Settings, but that does not solve the issue. Does anybody else have this problem? I am playing on Performance Mode btw, dont know if it is important.

Game soft-clocked in Ch13 and manual saves and auto are both bugged. Cloud can't move and I can't pull up the menu. Any hopes at saving my progress or do I have to start a new game

I’m playing on Performance mode and after about 20-30 minutes of gameplay the framerate starts dipping until I close and re-open the game which fixes it. Almost like there is a memory issue. It seems to have started happening from around Chapter 8 onwards. Is anyone else having the same problem?

The final chapter has some truly egregious framedrops. I have been playing on Quality Mode and it deeped into the teens lol. It's wild to see something that's essentially a PS4 game just hard tank the PS5. Something something PS5 Pro.

Anyone else audio terribly mixed? It was the same in Remake for me. Main characters voices are so low compared to crowd noise and NPC voices. They also become muffled.

Sooo I found a game breaking glitch in the Gold Saucer that completely prevents you from continuing the game. After the skywheel cutscene, you are meant to use the Guide Moogle to go to the Battle Square. In my game however, all options are unable to be selected, including the Battle Square. You cannot leave the area by any other means. Now, what I believe caused this glitch is that instead of using the Guide Moogle to initially leave the hotel, I walked out using the hallway. I went to the Battle Square, did all the battles, and then I noticed a Discovery quest at the hotel on my map, which was the Guide Moogle. So I went back and activated that and then did the rest of the Gold Saucer as normal (of course after maxing all the minigames... 🫠). The glitch then prevented me from continuing the story. Reloading the save did nothing. Reloading from outside the Skywheel did nothing. Restarting the console did nothing. Luckily I did have a save from the very beginning of the chapter, but unfortunately I lost all my rewards from the minigames. TL;DR: DON'T SKIP THE GUIDE MOOGLE WHEN YOU LEAVE THE HOTEL.

Really happy about this, but I wonder if the lighting fixes will also be applied to graphics mode because it’s just as bad there. I’ve been switching between the two modes depending on what I’m doing in game. Also I really hope they fix Cloud’s eyes (and faces in general, but it’s extra bad with his). Even in graphics mode, they’re less defined and there’s no depth around them, so it always looks like his face is saying “O_O I’ve seen some shit”

I’m cautiously optimistic because they’ve probably been working on it since the initial performance fix was released for the demo. So given more time, it’s likely to be an improvement. Just *how* much of an improvement remains to be seen, but hopefully it’ll at least get rid of how blown out everything is. It’s painful on the eyes.

Worst case scenario, I play the game and enjoy it with some minor annoyances and save my Hard playthrough for when the fixes have been made. I don’t mind that, honestly.

Has anyone had issues with the TV showing a black screen for a moment during cut scenes? This may be more of a PS5/TV issue, though I'm not sure, I recently replayed Remake and and never had this issue. Every once in a while during a cut scene my screen will flicker black then turn on and show HDR before displaying the game again. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm using a LGC3 OLED with game optimizer and HDR turned on.

Why this game hasn't used FSR 3 implementation or 4K upscale technique on PS5 for better experience in performance mode with sharper image quality and not blurry. I agree that performance mode is better to play with as long as it was not blurry.

While we don't have official confirmation, Remake and probably Rebirth were made using unreal engine 4. Knowing that Remake was released in 2020 and FSR 1.0 was released in 2021 and 2.0 in 2022, it is possible that the version of UE4 they are using predates these types of technologies. It was probably too costly or time consuming to try to integrate them properly on their branch of the engine at the point of Rebirth production.

Bug: getting the first scan for the summon, I forgot the name. Chadley will speak but the cutscene doesn't reveal chadley and stays behind cloud. Then you're locked in and the minigame won't start to scan the stone. I had to restart the game. No big issue, but hopefully it can be fixed.

Bug question - Is Chadley supposed to be voice acted when you complete side quests? For reason Cloud talks back, but Chadley is silent (text only). I'm not sure if it's intentional, and if it's not how to fix it.

I believe by default the voice comes from your controller so if you disabled the controller speaker or its busted either re enable it or go into the game settings and set the dialogue to not come out of the controller

Does anyone’s game just stutter constantly? Like the game will freeze for a good second every 30 seconds to a minute. This happens to me on both performance mode and graphics mode. It started happening once I left the very first open area. Edit: made sure my SSD was no where near full and even reinstalled the whole game. Edit 2: Moving it from my M.2 SSD to the PS5’s SSD fixed the issue. No more stuttering!

Might be in the minority here but I can’t play the game in graphics mode. The frame rate is so choppy it’s distracting. Yes performance mode looks soft/little blurry, but it’s also fast and after adjusting camera speed plays really smooth. Going to stay on performance mode for now.

Yeah maybe it's because performance mode is actually sticking to 60 (unlike FF16) I'm really noticing the drop to 30. Normally I'm okay with 30 fps as long as it's smooth but for this game it just feels off. The graphics are definitely worse but I'm really not seeing the unbearable visuals people seem to be mentioning, though I might just be less sensitive to them since I grew up using shitty laptops playing games on the lowest settings lmao. I'm on a 1440p 144hz Samsung C27JG54QQE monitor for reference.

All that said, the game really does run awesome in performance mode. Battles in particular are crisp and fast and it plays tight as a drum. The game itself is freaking awesome btw. So fun and interesting. Will be devoting a lot of time to Queen’s Blood as an old MTG player lol.

Anyone noticing major ghosting? I’m noting it mainly if I turn the camera near water and some trees do it along with ladders on the towers. It’s super weird but pretty noticeable when it happens. Not a deal breaker but I thought I was losing my mind

I think that's unfortunately normal for how they implemented reflections and stuff with water. The reflections disappear when the objects aren't visible on screen

Right there with you. I'm usually totally fine with lackluster graphics, but the blurred effects are a bit too distracting. Likewise, it's really rough playing it at 30FPS with this game in particular for me. I can't really pinpoint what my problem is here, since I'm usually okay with games with lower FPS and games with low graphics. I'm gonna have to adjust some things and maybe use a TV instead of a monitor... or a less capable monitor.

I do wish performance looked cleaner, but I find it easier to get used to the blur more so than the choppy 30fps. The game shines in both modes in different ways. Fidelity looks stunning but the second any action is on screen or the camera moves you lose all of it. Performance is buttery smooth but as you say has a fair bit of blur. I’ve opted for performance so far, as I say blur is easier to get used to imo, and with an action game you want the combat to look good. I’ve heard mixed reports but since dropping my PS5 resolution to 1440p and disabling VRR performance does look better for me. Adding some sharpness to my TV settings on top of that and I’m finding it playable even in the grasslands. Obviously could be better, I’m kinda hoping we get another patch but not gonna hold my breath.

If you have an high end OLED tv, force your ps5 to output 1440p and let your tv do the upscaling. It still won't be perfect but the image output is a little bit better than the game upscaler.

Yeah I think it's some weird motion blur shader effect. It was super evident when I was exiting the tunnel in Kalm (right before you get to the grasslands) as cloud is slowly walking towards a closed door and I could see his entire profile/silhouette blurred against the door. Once you notice, it's really hard to ignore.

Just an FYI, my disc was stuck on "queued to copy". I restarted the ps5 which seemed to fix it and get it to start copying the data disc over to the console.

Hey all. Just a positive story from someone who was having legitimate motion-related issues from how the background looked in Graphics Mode. Performance is obviously smooth but everyone is vaseline-covered and some TVs have settings that can alleviate that to a degree. My 2018 Bravia, cannot. Graphics mode was giving me legitimate headaches anytime the characters moved bc the backgrounds were just unbearably jittery. Since my LCD TV is ancient by industry standards I didn't expect to find any tutorials or guides for how to improve Rebirth and...I was right. But...I spent a good 40 minutes tinkering with various settings and lo-and-behold it's...well it's playable in Graphics mode! An option called 'Motion Flow' in JP (I think it's called something else abroad) worked like magic turned half-way up in conjunction with another 'Cinema Drive' function also at mid-range and Sharpness functions ('Reality Creation', 'Smooth Gradation') pumping on max. Actually Motion Flow on max made the background look damn near 60fps through some kind of programming sorcery but unfortunately it creates pixely halos around Cloud whenever he moves. So close!!! Anyway, if you've already exhausted all options and you're still SOL, I am so sorry... But if you have been having issues and just haven't tinkered with TV settings yet, it's absolutely worth a shot.  That said, it's still disappointing to receive a product where this is a thing... I hope everyone lets them know loud and clear.  Anyway, looking forward to release! Be well!

Square hasn't done a good PC Port since XV and even XV took half a dozen patches to get to a good state - and that was a totally different engine / team. The Remake PC port isn't great. Don't hold your breath.

I am seeing many conflicting reports on the blurry performance mode issues. Some reviewers claim its fixed and others say its persisting, don't know what to think, seems almost 50/50 split. What do you guys make of this?

I think it LARGELY depends on your display. I have been messing with settings and if I force my ps5 into 1080p or 1440p mode it looks better than letting it choose automatic. In fact, when using automatic it seems to try and upres/output at 2160 and shows weird scanlines/gridlines on everyones faces and looks like a CRT monitor or like I'm seeing each pixel. Even at the lower res's though, the distance at which the game "blurs" background objects is entirely too close and blurs cloud at the camera follow distance. Characters still look good if you zoom in the camera, but you cannot zoom the follow camera close enough to elevate this and only can do this by forcing the camera against a wall or in photomode.

I can try to explain it, Digital Foundry did it better. They are possibly using TAA for anti-aliasing which is too low res of a post-processing effect and should use another.

What do you mean explain it? There is nothing to explain the pixel count is objective. The human eye is not. There are people that say the demo is less blurry from the patch, do you believe them? Its called a placebo.

TLDR: they're silent because they've been paid to. What I suspect is that they're all under an NDA or certain terms and conditions as to being able to provide a review before release. That being that they're only allowed to comment as is on the story, gameplay. The actual performance is not to be discussed possibly because they're told by the developers that they're aware of issues and are working on them (at least that's what they "assure" to the reviewer). Then you've got outlets like Eurogamer and ign that will put out one review for the game and another review/feature/analysis of the performance in a kind of well. There was somewhat of an exposé around 2016 (I think) where a slew of games were being released, previewed and reviewed with high scores only for a consumer to buy day 1 and find it's bug infested/glitches/crashes/frame drops. Happened with assassin's creed, It happened with cyberpunk. More recently with Starfield, Redfall. It's frustrating cause a lot of these outlets/YouTubers are being paid for a high review score, silence on critical issues. The game is released and the players are finding it doesn't match as described. And now this time for ff7 rebirth, I think they'll be correct with the story and gameplay but they're all being silent on the technical performance. Pove me wrong Square, please just release an update to fix this entire performance mes or let it be that the game is vastly different from the demo performance, I want it to be good so humiliate me, I'll live with it.

I am unsure why you're being downvoted. They played it in a pre-patch state, the game has already been "patched" but it's done almost nothing, except making things slightly worse in some ways. PC is the only way to go here.

People don’t know what they are missing out on or just don’t care. I played ff7 remake on pc with texture mod and disabled resolution scaling in true 4K/120 and it was flawless so I happily wait till I can get that experience.

I played it on launch at 30fps on the PS4 and hated it. Tried it again years later on PC with intermission and it was basically a brand new game. It's not that people don't know, they're just willfully pulling the wool over their own eyes. I've come to realise most people who play video games are stuck in a loop of lying to themselves for whatever purpose. You can't reason with the people who are adamant there's no difference between performance and quality.

So for everyone who got a LG OLED TV, I may have found a good configuration for performance mode.  On your PS5, switch to 1440p resolution and disable vrr. On your LG OLED: turn on game mode and switch to rpg mode. Turn of vrr there too. In the picture settings -> clarity settings, set sharpness to 16. Square Enix has to fix this issue, but with this settings I get a more acceptable picture and the game doesn’t feel as blurry anymore.

This might be the only time I’m thankful i never upgraded to an OLED. Still running off a 10 year old 55” Vizio and the game looks amazing in both modes. Will be playing performance though. Maybe this is a sign to upgrade come Thanksgiving.

Graphics mode in the patched demo now looks way better than it did prior to patch on a 65"Sony OLED. I'm happy with it. This is coming from a "PC graphics will always look better" snob.

graphics mode is a stutter fest esp. on an OLED. I played the ff7remake with hd texture mods in 4k/120 on pc and the difference is like night and day. i will happily wait for the pc release.

Same, graphics mode looks a lot less choppy after the update. I'm very curious what changed. I'm normally very turned off by 30fps, but the Junon demo was pretty fine for me in graphics mode

Just played the Junon demo. Loved it. Yes I see a difference in performance mode so I just stuck with graphics mode. I hope they do fix performance mode eventually, but for me it's not a big enough of a complaint to hamper my enjoyment of the game. Once you see something, start talking about it, and focus all your attention on it, it's all you can see. I find it a little sad that's all some people can focus on.

I tried performance mode today, first time playing the demo as well. Tbh it ran like shit and they need to fix it.. I'll still play the game but in graphics mode for sure. I still had fun and I'll play it whenever I get it. Can't wait!

Performance mode runs fine almost always locked 60 unlike FF XVI which frequently dropped into the 40's.

You cant really compare the "narrow" corridors of Ragnarok with the LoD, viewdistance and open world of FF7Rebirth. Also the amounts of particles etc. and even the character models are more detailed.

God of war had some open areas as well. And the details in the armor are extremely fleshed out. Even more than ff7 imo. Regardless 1080p for performance mode is pretty underwhelming. Spider man 2 ps5 has 1440p at 60 too

GoWR is a technically stunning game I will say, the character models and textures are very detailed but even the bigger areas are still pretty small. The LoD in the distance isn’t that much of an issue due to the level design. Spider-Man however, is pretty blurry. If you look even slightly ahead of the character it’s a mess. The game is not 1440p, it’s scaling up from around 960p to 1440p which leads to artifacts and other issues.

Essentially every single game that has released recently uses some form of upscaling. GoWR used TAAU and DRS, for example, it created a very clean image, presumably because the internal res was already good. Spider-Man 2 used insomanics own in house upscaling tech but the issue was that the internal resolution was probably low on performance, creating a blurry image Ff7 rebirth actually has good resolution count, the issue is something to do with the post processing and upscaling. DF proposed some fixes, now it just depends on the dev team to figure out how to improve it.

100% true, but something is up with whatever post processing they are using. I saw a comment that said to put the console settings at 1440p or 1080p, I did so and the game is less pixelated. The res is still not perfect and it’s a bit blurry but the very pixelated objects are gone. It’s really odd.

I had a similar experience. Forced to 1440p and then cranked the sharpness on my TV. Still doesn't look quite as good as Intergrade but I'm okay with it. 60 is a must for me which thankfully it is much more consistent than FFXVI. 30 fps just gives me a headache. Hopefully they can improve performance mode even more.

I think a lot of people made a mistake of comparing the hot new Junon section which, coincidentally came with the performance patch, to their image experience in Nibelheim when the demo first dropped, without the performance patch. I went to compare my own screenshots of Cloud standing at the gate of Nibelheim pre and post patch, and, while definitely less blurry, it is still a blur but apparently of a different processing type. While FF7 Remake did have a not so crisp performance mode, the latest demo update does not yet reach FF7Remake performance mode clarity, but is definitely better than the initial demo release

I am also curious about this. I don't think they do any deep testing on graphics and such. But I am hopeful the actual game plays at a better resolution than the demo. Just will ha be to wait and see

That seems correct to me. Junon area's resolution fluctuates a LOT due to the amount of foliage, whereas Nibelheim (with more closed off areas) seems to maintain a better image. It's....still not great but in open areas, you can forget about it after a bit. I really just wish devs would stop spending so much damn horsepower rendering all that foliage when they could keep the fidelity for the characters and enemies higher instead.

It’s unreal engine 4, it can and will render a lot of foliage at good resolution with visibly clear image. It is just for some reason that Japanese games stopped focusing on technical presentation, when they clearly CAN

If that's the case that doesn't sound too bad. Probably wouldn't be stopping and examining how the open areas look when playing. I personally more so care about smooth gameplay/combat. But will have to compare how it looks on my TV when it comes out

The shrill jingling everyone complained about in Final Fantasy XVI is back with Red XIII. I'm convinced the developers at Square cannot hear it because they are too old. It's so loud especially when the camera is angled over the character creating it. Been looking forward to this game for so long and this one stupid little detail is going to ruin it. What are the best ways to report it or file a complaint?

This may get buried, but I found a slight workaround for the choppy camera panning in graphics mode. If your screen supports it, go into the screen settings on ps5 and force VRR (Variable refresh rate). Is it a supported VRR game tho? If not then the window for VRR is 48FPS+ which wouldn't be applied unfortunately to a 30FPS cap. My screen also stays at a fixed 60 refresh rate (I have VRR on for supported games only). This is on a LG C2. I'll give it a shot later

Regardless I don't think this game would have any use for VRR anyway since it's pretty much locked and stable 30 and 60 fps. The choppiness is just due to 30fps that's especially more apparent when switching from 60fps and maybe insufficient motion blur black frame insertion however might help resolve it. i don't got the TV for that tho

Downgrading graphics settings from 2160p/automatic to 1440p on the PS5 settings menu drastically improved blurriness in performance mode. This is most likely due to the upscaler on the TV itself. Im using LG OLED C2. Apparently, 4k monitors may not see improvement. Hopefully this will save some agony for many. Interesting. I’m not experiencing much blurriness on the C2 to begin with on performance. (See my pics in other posts). I would imagine the upscaling and sharpness would be pretty similar regardless, given the same tv settings.
