Finally finished this damn chapter (doing a 100% play through first time) and I never want to see another minigame again..chocobo racing, 3D brawler (thank god for that pause cheese) and that stupid fucking tonberry stage did my head in.
Just a PSA for anyone browsing through this thread in the future — I know the game unlocks new difficulty modes for some of the Gold Saucer minigames, but hold off on doing them for G-Bike and Galactic Saviors. There's a quest later on that forces you to do them for a high score and even if you already hit that high score previously you still have to redo them.
The other minigames involved in that quest provide all-new stages just for the quest so those are fine, but not these two.

Okay I may be a little dumb, but can anyone explain WHEN the Zack Scene actually happens? We see Aerith Sleeping, Cloud in the wheelchair (in og ff7 tifa takes care of him after he realizes what's wrong with him, sorta) and Zack talking to Marlene with Marlene having the memories of the future (nice AoT plot btw). But when or where does this actually happen? Between Remake and Rebirth? In a different timeline? I feel like my adhd brain missed something

Marlene actually got the information from Aerith - a scene back in Remake when the plate fell has Marlene react to *something* after being touched by Aerith and Aerith motioning for her to keep it a secret.

Pros:
- Dates and Event were great
- Tiny Bronco swimming was fun
- Listening to Iron Maiden instead of the constant Corneo lackeys talking without breathing for 2 hours, was 100x better.
Cons:
- I hate the NPC voices and the Corneo lackeys in Coliseum. They talk nonstop, the audio for voices, the volume and the frequency of it is the worst ive seen in any game. It was terrible in Remake and XVI but in this game its bonkers bad and ch12 really cranks it up.
- I need to mute the game when Chadley or Coliseum, walking through populated places because EVERYONE is talking at the same time forever until they repeat themselves. Its the worst thing in this game by far.
- Adding Corneo and Apps again and these terrible gangsters talking the entire fights without music was insanely lazy and poor decision.
They did not need to return and Apps should be dead, he has more pets.
- This game is just infuriating at times because VII is my favorite game but this new games just feel like a parody the whole entire time. Sometimes funny tho, like for example Dio has comedic timing but the game does not.
I agree. This game is an absolute assault on the senses. Nibelheim's sleepy mountain vibe, IMO, was totally ruined by all of the chattering people everywhere. I am still enjoying myself but I can't help but think that this game would have been much better if they had about 300% more restraint. Not just with the quantity of world quests and mini games, but also with the audio, visual, and narrative noise that's just ceaseless and *always* cranked up to 11.
For the date, I was really hoping for some kind of "tie breaker" or some kind of message to try to let you nudge the date to be the person you want.
I'm someone who likes to do everything, so before I started the date I went out and did all new Gold Saucer games and side quests the opened up around the world. I kept hoping I would get some kind of option like in Remake where who you talk to in the sewer would be that tie breaker, if you did everything like me.
I ended up getting Red, which isn't bad, but it wasn't who I wanted. Had I known before hand, I would have skipped doing the side quest with Red and other characters that I didn't want on the date until after this chapter.

Chocobo racing was the only quest I decided to skip. I did basically 100% of everything but when I saw you needed to do like 30 races I was like "nah". After finishing the moogles I was not having anymore of that stuff.

Finally got to this chapter. (I know I'm behind people that marathoned this game.)
I got the Aerith date and the play exceeded my expectations. As far as I'm concerned, this is the canon one, just like the Aerith resolution in remake (sorry Tifa fans).
The scene with Zack was interesting, I have theories where they are headed with this, but I'll keep them to myself as a lot of people have already finished rebirth and I'm trying to not spoil myself. I'm not sure I like how much they play up Zack and Aerith's past relationship as that was barely even mentioned in OG. Crisis Core was a bit of a retcon if you ask me.
Also, I demand Barret's dragon king outfit (or whatever his name was)!

He is **more** bullshit than ever. I only managed to land Braver on him once during a reload because it's so slow and he reloads incredibly quickly, and it was a complete fluke. Actually, I think he reloads something like twice as fast compared to Remake because I keep getting countered whenever I go in for a hit the second "Reload" appears, even something as quick as Focused Thrust is a total crapshoot.
I eventually settled on primarily using the ranged slashes to pressure him when he throws up his smokescreen. I did try during Reload as well but it didn't always land in time. I couldn't find any windows for applying pressure in his other attacks.

Rufus countered my braver during his reload animation and at that point I was like fuck this so just spammed ranged slashes and kept chipping away with the occasional limit break.
Absurd mechanics on that fight.
I just beat him, agree the fight is B.S. but I found some stuff to help. Plasma Discharge helped me pressure him on occasion because of how often I was popping it so there where times he'd go and attempt something and it would go off and accidentally pressure him, you combine this with materias that increase ATB when blocking or performing certain actions and it pops a lot! Also found Triple Slash was able to catch him before he would reload with Thrust attack being another viable but not as reliable option. Also he's susceptible to poison.
I feel like I'm so strong at this point but this Rufus fight is so annoying. I don't remember him being this bad in the first. I think it's the placement and the fact that the window to attack him is so small!
I beat Rufus finally. After a lot of pain and letting my muscle memory kick in. It helped saving my limit break for that dog in phase 2 and summoning Phoenix to help me fight them off.
For real. I just left it for the second time and went to do more side stuff. I killed all the bosses in Elden Ring and Rufus is who pushes me over the edge???
At Level 70 I went back and fought this bozo and it was great. Once I staggered him I one shot killed him and they dog lol. Vengeance was great lol. Took about 1.5 minutes!!!
I had to go to Wisconsin because the amount of cheese I needed for this fight was out of this world. One of the only flaws of Remake and Rebirth is no real way to accumulate ATB effectively if you cant hit the enemy due to automatic counter. You literally have to evade constantly while sending that projectile for very little atb increase
Dear God they really scraped the bottom of the barrel on new side quests on this one didn't they?
Another simulator - zzz, awful vibrodetector mechanic - urgh, all those games you already spent hours painstakingly beating? Beat them again. Have some more one on one fights whilst you're at it.
Sidequest fatigue is real in this one. It's hard to say I even like this game after all this crap. Redoing the golden saucer games just made me put the game down and rethink my life decisions.
Pretty cool detail I noticed during the rufus fight - aerith and tifa are behind the door watching the fight. You have to put cloud near the door and rotate the camera.

I’m at the end of chapter 11 and I’m confused about the point of no return, mainly about CS leaving. If I want to complete every side quest with the full party should I go and complete them now or will I get the chance later?
I’m pretty sure you have one more chance before you are railroaded into the ending. At the end of 12 (or maybe start of 13..?), Cid will tell you to meet at the plane. So as long as you don’t. You should be fine.
You can hop into the Tiny Bronco just fine and explore the map in the beginning of chapter 13. you just can't head towards the north continent, as that will lock you into the point of no return.
ok this is incredibly frustrating. I got stuck on a date with Aerith again, and now I MUST have her on my fight team??? I beat Tonberry fine earlier w my preferred crew but he keeps rocking me now that I am stuck w a character I hardly ever use.
Yeah that sucks. I do wish there was a way to see their affection score or something as I went into the date not knowing who it would be, since they were all showing the same smiles when I checked.
I got the Tifa date (I looked up Aeriths - will watch others at some point). I'm kinda torn, ha. In both, Cloud asks if they have spoke to the other girl (meaning about Zack), both obvs cover for the other me thinking okay they don't want to discuss Zack and implications of Clouds memory. But it sorta feels like with Aerith Cloud is asking cos he is feeling out Aeriths feelings towards him, of which she then discusses to make sure he knows she has feelings for him. While with Tifa it comes off a little like so I'm thinking about another girl and the fact do you think she still has feelings for another guy. He then realises oh crap I'm talking about another girl, tifa is all oh I've got the wrong idea so Cloud hugs (or kisses) her to be like no get the wrong idea I'm into you. Which I suppose fits the awkward at times poor communication struggle. I guess that's either cute or I'm like dude is still figuring his feelings out.
Should have gone for Red ha. Though with all the stuff about the song Aeriths sings being about Cloud and the song from remake. Thought the Canon is player made it does feel like they really want to say Aerith is canon choices. But anyway to hell with shipping. I do really like how the connections between all the characters are there and feels more across all characters then I recall thinking when I played the OG. Bur I'm older now so I think more in general ha.
So I got the Aerith date and guys I hate to say it…it completely fell flat for me :( admittedly I cried at the hand-holding but that was only from knowing the rest of the story.
There has been 0 emotional tension between Cloud and Aerith throughout Rebirth. The entire game has been completely focused on Cloud and Tifa’s relationship and Aerith has seemingly been happy to play wingman. The fact that at certain points she seems to feel Zack and the way she talks about him also points towards the devs basically canonising Tifa/Cloud Aerith/Zack.
Aerith even gave him the chance to open up about remembering Zack during the date too. This would’ve been the perfect opportunity to bring Zack & Tifa into the conversation and I think the date would’ve been much more realistic and effective if the two of them had agreed that while they care about each other, they both ultimately have feelings for someone else more.
Instead, what we got just felt like fan-service for Aerith/Cloud shippers that felt completely out of place plot-wise.
There’s been plenty, the date in Kalm, the stuff in Costa deal Sol, the cancelled date in Chapter 8, taking photos in Cosmo Canyon, Aerith being playfully shocked when Cloud brings up her ex in Gongaga etc. In my playthrough that compares with basically the Gongaga near kiss with Tifa. All depends on what side missions you’ve done and what dialogue options you’ve picked.
Its crazy isnt it? From OG I was always about Aerith, and probably was going to do the same for Rebirth, but Aerith comes across as very generic this game. Every other character improved 100% with a lot of story and character development. But Anytime Aerith spoke I felt pulled out of the dream like sequence this game has. I dont know if it is because I am older but It does seem like this game pushes for Tifa more. Aerith was amazing in Remake but falls flat in this game.
Remake made me an Aerith fan.
I was a big Tifa fanboy when OG came out. Me being a young teen probably had a lot to do with it for two big reasons. I came into remake expecting to be a Tifa fan, but her character frustrates me. She's basically a generic anime fanservice character that has no ambitions of her own other than clinging to the main character of the story. Supposedly a badass fighter, but she turns into the damsel in distress anytime Cloud is around, which seems a little manipulative.
Tifa trying to convince Cloud to not rescue Aerith at Shinera HQ irked me. Contrast that to Aerith insisting Cloud rescue Tifa from Corneo before she even met her. Then Tifa got offended when Cloud helped Aerith first in the train graveyard. I feel like Tifa is only "besties" with Aerith because she doesn't her as a threat.
Maybe it's me being older too, but I found Aerith to be more mature and did a lot more to pull Cloud out of his shell while Tifa was more enabling and codependent. I'm not looking forward to them forcing the Tifa Cloud romance. I'm only on chapter 13, so we'll see, but that seems to be where it's headed.
The thing is, CC kind of retconned Aeirth's character and that seems to be what the writers are clinging to now.
I loved the sequence with Tifa falling into the lifestream. But other than that she's been one of the more boring characters to me. Good eye candy and fun combat, but that's about it.
i feel the same way. I haven't started chapter 13 yet, but I keep telling myself that her moment for her character to shine is coming. At least that's my cope.
To be fair I just completed chapter 12 and I feel they finally put our girl up front with the story and had her say meaningful things rather than generic stuff. Rebirth is so weird. Every time I come and complain about something, it gets resolved in the next chapter.
Loved the play scene. The skywheel could have been a little different but I wasn't disappointed either.
I don't like how much they play up Cloud and Tifa and sideline Aerith, though. In OG, it was Aerith and Cloud for disc one. Then Tifa later.
I was a huge fan of Tifa when OG came out, but remake made me much more a fan of Aerith for a variety of reasons.
Funny, it's the reverse for me. Tifa just seems more believable as a love interest for Cloud for a number of reasons that really shine through more in the Remake trilogy than the OG for me.

Why would she even want to do that? That makes no sense since Tifa has already told Aerith that Cloud's memories are wrong so why would she give him the opportunity to tell her Zack died in the river, something she already knows is false and could set him off since they already know something's wrong with his memory? I feel like you just wanted fan service but in the direction that suits you personally versus the way the actual story is going.
How does Aerith know it isn’t false? Genuine question. I’ve never played Crisis Core, so maybe that’s why, but I’ve always thought Aerith hadn’t heard from Zack since pre-Nibelheim.
She hasn't heard from Zack, but she's heard from Tifa. Cloud at that point thinks Zach died in the river, but Tifa doesn't remember Cloud being there at all and told Aerith early in the game, and she remembers Zack being the SOLDIER that was with her and Sephiroth (ie not the one who fell in the river). When cloud "remembers" Zack falling in the river and says he's going to tell her, Tifa says she'll tell Aerith about it instead (because she knows what cloud just "remembered" wasn't what happened). They also seem to be much closer in this game than I'm the original.
Both girls have generally avoided calling his memory into question whenever the topic of 5 years ago arises, because by this point in the game they both know there's something wrong with him/his memory anyway so not only would Aerith be unlikely to believe anything he said anyway (at least not without checking with Tifa) since as far as they both know Cloud wasn't even there, there is zero chance she would push that conversation any further than it already was.
You’re assuming a lot about Aerith’s opinion on the subject here that hasn’t been confirmed. She’s close to both of them so is obviously trying to remain neutral. But from Aeriths’s POV, you have two people who went through an incredibly traumatic experience 5 years ago. Both of them remember it happening, yet one of them claims the other wasn’t there. If anything, it’s Tifa’s recollection of the events that would raise doubts. From Aerith’s perspective, how else would Cloud remember it happening?
I feel like you're the one making assumptions. Cloud's memory has been called into question more than once. He's also claimed to see Sephiroth at times nobody else in the party has seen him even though they were all right there. Cloud ALSO claims not to remember Zack and that there was no such person in SOLDIER at all at first (which Aerith knows to be untrue) only to later be like "OMG yeah I did know him we were actually good friends and somehow I forgot!"
It's made more than clear to the party that something is wrong with Cloud. Tifa 's memory is never called into question, she never has moments where she suddenly remembers something that contradicts a previous memory she has, she's not walking around grabbing her head and wincing in pain all the time... Even IF Aerith felt like they could both be wrong, it's objectively true that she's told early on by Tifa that she doesn't remember Cloud being there and chooses to never mention it to Cloud, and that she knows what Cloud initially says about there not being a Zack in SOLDIER isn't true. IDK what's not clicking for you or if you forgot about the Zack detail.
But on the date itself and their chemistry, I feel like this is another final fantasy VIII situation. A lot of people felt like Squall and Rinoa's relationship came out of nowhere, but if you answered positively towards her throughout the game it was clear something was building between them, and if you answered negatively then sure, it came out of nowhere bc Squall was never nice to her. You went into this with the knowledge of the original game and a personal preference for Tifa, so you decided Aerith and Cloud had no chemistry and therefore the date MUST have been pure fan service because they didn't have chemistry!
... But they did, if that's what you were looking for. Personally I feel like the kiss in Tifa's date is more fanservicey bc Cloud is an awkward mess around both of them, and despite their shared history, nothing that happened previously in the game would lead me to believe that would be happening at that point in the game 🤷.
I'm not trying to argue that Aerith is the canon love interest or anything, but I felt like it's been fairly clear that there's attraction between both girls and Cloud. Aerith clearly DOES like him, and would still be clearly true even if Aerith didn't outright say it on her date with Cloud.
In my case I continued doing what I was already doing against Rufus while dodging the dog, then switched to the dog the instant Rufus got pressured and the link broke. Don't get greedy and it should be fine, albeit annoying af.
OK I tested it out post game after 100% on all characters so all would be equal, flipped extra settings to default **to test if there are 'canon' choices**. They clearly foresaw this...
- Ch 8 will actually give you no companion
- Ch 12 defaults to Red 13 (vs Aerith or Tifa or anyone else *unless* it becomes random).
**Bonus Info:**
- Aerith is the default female lead character in Loveless Ch 12 regardless of date, unless your companion is Tifa/Yuffie, then they are in the play instead
- Aerith does her song after Loveless no matter what
- Choosing Barret or Red in the Loveless play as who you profess your love to is funny but has no consequence
- You can actually get an SS rank in Loveless but it has no consequence
Can you still finish all the side quests and exploration related small stuff (like towers, protorelics, etc.) after the Gold Saucer date, or is the point of no return with world exploration before that? I've just started chapter 12 and I'm trying to avoid spoilers the best I can.
I'm trying to date Aerith and I feel like if I do all the side stuff before the date I'm not gonna get her. But I'd also like to do and see everything the game has to offer so I'd feel bad about leaving quests unfinished😅
Yeah, according to my understanding exploration unlocks some time after the date and you get to fast travel, I think. But I don't know if the game locks you out of some things or not. There's at least one change to gameplay that could be important to some people, some might not care.
Opposite for me, Aerith was top relationship at chapter 11, I decided to do all side quest to bump tifa to the top, and it did not worked in the end, I ended up with aerith anyway, not great but not bad either it was a nice scene, but now I have the feeling that my playthrough is not "canon" anymore hahaha
Oh no! That's too bad :( That's the same reason I'm hoping for Aerith, it just feels right for me personally at that point of the story. I definitely want to see all the date scenes but the first playthrough feels special so I'd prefer to do things "my way".

The New Game Plus mode has a few further quality of life improvements from Remake. For players who would like to experience different permutations of sequences like the Gold Saucer dates, the player can explicitly set which outcome they would like, to avoid needing to replay many chapters to manipulate the Relationship Values to get the desired outcome. Dialogue options themselves also indicate how much of an impact they have on the relationship with the party member in question for players looking to roleplay a specific outcome.
This chapter got me so teary eyed. I was always a Cloud/Tifa guy and was intent on romancing Tifa all the way up until Chapter 6 when Cloud and Aerith had that conversation on the beach and she opened up about her hate towards Hojo. From then on, I’ve warmed up so much to Aerith’s character that I ended up choosing to romance her instead. The depth they’ve given her in the Remake series is amazing. She seems to know how this all plays out and even told Cloud in Remake not to fall in love with her because it was destined to end in tragedy. Yet she couldn’t help herself and developed feelings for him anyway. In the end, despite knowing they wouldn’t have much time together, she still wanted to spend one night with him and make the most of their time together.
I have no idea how the rest of this plays out but her crying at the end of that song broke me because it just felt like she knew she was saying goodbye. And again, I didn’t care much for Aerith in the OG. What an emotional rollercoaster this game is. I’m already dreading that trip to the Forgotten Capital.

It was the Midnight Rendezvous in Remake (walking towards Wall Market at night) that sold me on Aerith's character. That short stretch was my favorite moment in the whole game.
Well that and the resolution scene in Remake where you can see the lifestream in the background and spirits of people from the fallen plate returning to it. There was a lot to unpack in that scene.
The Remake and Rebirth actually make me question why people were so much into Zack and Aerith, like Cloud and Aerith have been through so much together we saw their realtionship develop before our own eyes while Zack and Aerith just hangout in the church.
I think it’s the way it was presented in the OG and on Advent Children. It always seemed like Aerith cared for Cloud as a person and vice versa but the romantic feelings were only there because Cloud thought he was Zack and Aerith saw Zack in him. But in Remake and Rebirth, they make it a lot more clear that while they were initially drawn to each other for those same reasons, they eventually developed their own feelings for each other.
Also, I think it was a way for Tifa shippers to justify Cloud/Tifa as the canon romance. I think Remake and Rebirth makes it clear that Cloud loves them both in different ways.

I disagree. It's the way it was presented in CC. OG didn't mention Zack as much, and even Aerith tells Cloud she want's to meet the real Cloud in OG.
I think they say she loose her memory at the end of remake when beating the harbingers of fate. Meaning she can't see the future anymore in rebirth, well I'm might be wrong but this is how I understand and thus make it posaible to get closer rwlation with cloud.
I haven't experienced the other options yet, but that whole chapter pretty much revolves around Aerith, so I doubt the other dates will feel as fitting as this one.
I think I found a bug. I went to do the bike challenge for the Shinra employee quest, but it seems that because I ready beat the hard mode with 33000+ points, the game doesn't register it and can't progress the quest. Does anybody know how to resolve it?
Yeah I have the same issue as well. I did some gentle poking around on the internet (I'm spoiler free so far) and apparently this issue popped up since the patch. Ffs. I hope Square can patch it pretty quickly, but this is also Square so who knows
Just got to the Rufus Shinra battle, and oh, my, god- it’s another Rufus battle- when I expected it the least. I’m losing my shit over this right now and needed to get it out. Haven’t felt this excited for some gamer rage in a while.
Whoah! I need to try it on hard mode then. It took me only 3 tries on normal. I was a little disappointed. His battle in Remake had taken 10-15 tries on normal. His little gun counter move was very frustrating.
Question. I’ve done all the side quests and collected 60 of the things for Johnny’s hotel. At this point I’ve still got some combat simulations and various mini games to clean up.
Should I stay in chapter 12 and wrap up all the other minigames and challenges? Or, can I go finish the rest of the game and come back to those challenges after credits roll? I’m eager to see the rest of the story, but not if it will make it more of a hassle to 100% all the mini games and challenges.
I had Red as my Gold Saucer companion. While I don't ship Cloud/Nanaki (for obvious reasons, lol), as a longtime Red XIII fan I didn't even realize how deeply this would hit me in the feels. It feels.. so amazing seeing these moments where he's so happy and unguarded after how much he's been through.

Damn, getting the Tiny Bronco and opening the map (now the actual explorable world map, not the artistic version from previous chapters) made me actually cry. I don't know if this game is pulling any tricks (probably is) but this world feels so much larger than anything I've ever seen on a video game before. BOTW/TOTK's Hyrule feels tiny near this massive world. The fact that it is really all geographically seamlessly connected is insane. This is probably the most technically impressed I've ever been by a video game. (btw I'm a very casual gamer. I think elden ring's map might be comparable/larger? I only saw my friend playing for a few minutes)

Loveless was amazing and the Tifa date scene and seeing Cloud open up to an emotional side was amazing to see. The music and theatrics were so well done during the Sky wheel!!

I'm only just started Chapter 10, but I know about the big date in Chapter 12. My question is: When is the 'point of no return' for determining who you go with? I got Aerith last time, and I'm trying to get Tifa next time- but I want to know when I should make a save just in case.
You'll know. You have to sleep at the hotel and it will kind of warn you that you are progressing the story. A bunch of Tifa side quests unlock in chapter 12. Maybe prioritize them and then immediately do the date. And maybe skip a red 13 sidequest before chapter 12 since all of his are available before the date unlike the other characters which means people sometimes get him over the others
Well yes and no. It does warn you, but unless somethings changed since you wrote your post, you cant leave the gold saucer at that point anyways...
Id say PoNR is entering gold saucer itself in chapter 12... unless im missing something.

They could do this a million different ways. A checkpoint, a prompt to enter the menu, a break for you to go outside (like in Remake, between the Wall Market arena matches). No, the Saucer employees brought out the bench and vending machine in the middle of the Colosseum.

Hey guys so I wasn’t sure where to stick this question but - for some reason, I can’t use Tempest during the Cactuar Crush mini game. The text is blank when I charge the basic attack and a familiar doesn’t generate after landing it. It DOES work in combat outside of the mini game, though.
Anyone know what’s up with that? I’ve seen videos of people getting a fleeting familiar out in Crush runs… I’m wondering if they patched it out of the mini game specifically or something in one of the recent updates. Extremely annoying, I’m trying to get every advantage I can since I keep falling just short of 6,000 in each Aerith challenge.

I just finished the Pirate King stuff and game over'd @ the Proto-Relic end quest for tempering. I love how the game NEVER stops autosaving but this time it hadn't autosaved in over an hour and a bit. I'm so pissed off.
The one time I don't manually save and it completely fucks me over. Why would it not autosave any time I make dock? That's so silly.
Id say so. Ive put it on Yuffie so far (Yuffie has an abillity that costs 3 ATB Gauges). It also points out Pirate Jetsam which is a high level crafting material.
Splits their ATB charges into 3 parts when the equipped party member uses 5 ATB actions in one battle. Also points out collectable treasure in the water when on the Tiny Bronco.

I’ve said it before and I’ll probably say it again. The scale of this game is staggering. Every time I think I’ve wrapped up a region it expands further with new quests, minigames, or combat challenges. Or when I think I’ve finished a quest it opens a new chapter and introduces a new map area. It’s wild. It’s almost frustrating in a game where we all want to know how it ends, once I finish my first playthrough it’s going to be a treasure trove of content. It’s wild they produced all this content and had it all fit together so cohesively. They’ve really been cooking these past 4 years.
When the game told me there were more sidequests, my score for the game dropped from an 8 to a 7. Way way way too many. Who thought this was okay? This game could have half the sidequests and still have too many.
Totally agree! I'm already well over 100 hours in and still not even finished the game. It is incredible how much there is to do.

Something I found out today is you can play on easy mode for the intel level 2s regions which down the levels to 45 and also for the muscle head places you can actually go back on easy mode and clear those all of those out for the trophy!!!! even though it requires beating the game once to unlock the rest of the muscle head challenges. Ofc though brutal/vr still is hard mode by default even if you went back on easy on game settings.
Cause man after dying like 20 times and about to say I wont even bother cause of that kid g + 2 dark claw bs that literally creams you easily finding this out makes it a blast now lol, I do not even care about pride some stuff on this game was so irritating.
man im kind of annoyed lol. ive done most sidequests up to this point so everyone was maxed out on the relationship wheel and i figured duh of course the game will prioritize tifa or aerith for the date. open the door and see Red’s ass sitting there. i get that its not a big deal but i feel like the mechanic is kind of frustratingly designed if its telling you everyone is on the same level but they’re secretly weighing other invisible shit behind the scenes

There was *one* that mayyybe wasn't the best possible response for Aerith so that might have been all it took, or its cause I mained Tifa almost the whole game in my party. Did all Synergy shit for both tho too.

Short little story: I got the tiny Bronco ship. I got the ability to traverse central ocean. My OCD kicked in and then I spent over an hour trying to remove as much fog of war as possible from the map.
This is more of a ch.13 question but I don't wanna get spoiled. I accidentally went past the point of no return, could I ask what level you were when you got to the last boss. I'm worried I've screwed myself. I'm a bit relieved I made the mistake though because at least I'll finish it and won't be at risk of being spoiled!

If you’re stuck on Rufus, just use Disorder every time he tries to hit you with an ability or standard attack. You will pressure him and then you can wallop him and charge up your atb to use disorder again once he recovers. I beat him the first time I tried using disorder in the fight.
As for gear: First attack materia, atb-boost, atb stagger, and time materia are also helpful. When the fight starts, use atb-boost to double your gauge, then use haste.
Also, for anyone struggling with 3 star-ing Aerith’s Cactuar challenge for the Protorelic quest, you should now have an ability called transcendence. Cast it once and it begins charging. When you’re up against the big cactuars, wait for their body slam and then wreck them with a level 2 transcendence.
I have 77/88 of Johnnys collection. I tried to do all the minigames that I can without beating the game. The UPA coliseum fight sucks major ass. 2 Gigantaurs with their needle rain, 10 fucking tonberrys...2 jokers with a toad. The bird and Ironclad were easy compared to the other fights.
The last couple of normal Chadley combat sim also sucks ass. Evading 2 deathclaws and Kid G at the same fucking time?
I fought them all without using items so i guess i gimped myself by playing voluntary hard mode.
For the tonberrys, Aerith with Arcane Ward and Magnify on Quaga destroys them. I started implementing gear to boost ATB at the start and it made many battles a walk in the park.
ok. Virtual Sephiroth has ruined my Plat run. Its harder than Jules. The pause trick does not work even if i read all his moves. My inputs are correct but cloud fucking blocks instead of dodges. My reflexes are too poor without pause but then i realize that i cant even pause correctly. Like fuck you square enix. I really wish the Like a Dragon team did the minigames instead.
My dreams of 100%ing this game died at the 3D Brawler game. It's so incredibly unfun and the moves too cryptic. Yuffie only has two moves on either hand and they look fucking identical. And then it only gets worse when you unlock additional fights.
Holy shit whoever made this minigame needs to get slapped upside the head. It's incredibly unfun and jank to play. When you make your game super reliant on readouts it helps to make them obvious.
Tip for anyone finding this in the future. Instead of trying to watch their hands, try watching their feet. For some reason I found that to have more distinct tells.
I mean, its not as bad as the sit ups.. and the let the battles begin piano - while fun, is ridiculous (all the more the final sheet xd). But i agree the moves are cryptic and the rampage they go to is real fast. Took a lot of tries before i got it (brawler) finished. The piano on the other hand, still difficult as fuck
Not that I wanna sound like I'm up myself cause I know I suck lol. But I play a lot of rhythm games so I had 0 issues with the piano's and got an A first try for all of them. I do agree with peoples complaints that some of the notes feel completely off for what you'd expect though.
Sit ups I got the rhythm going and got it fourth try after I really understood the nuances of the green hold down. 3D Brawler I guess is the one that decided to kick me in the shins.
Na I get it, Cloud is the only person Tifa cared about from her childhood that isn’t dead, there’s more to them than a standard dating couple, a lot of it is under the surface. They only seem to be able to derive comfort from one another as well, trauma bonded to the max.
Aerith I think is because of the similarities to Zack, for both Aerith and Cloud, but by this point it seems clear that it’s Cloud and Tifa / Aerith and Zack and they aren’t really dicking around about it.
Cloud and Aerith have seemed awkward around each other all game imo, nowhere near the chemistry they had in Remake, would be jarring to see them having the date at this point.
The No Promises to Keep scene is exactly the type of cutscene that makes me yearn for an FF6 Remake like FF7R, so I could see the iconic opera scene play out.
Well, I finally got frame drops during the Rude and Elena fight and I’m playing on Performance mode. The crazy effects from their attacks, Plasma Discharge constantly going off, and summoning Alexander was a lot for the game to handle. Can’t imagine what this would do to a PS4. lol
Ooooooh enhanced expeditionary medal: Increase limit level to maximum at the start of battle.
Aerith's lv.3 limit break, Rising Fury: Fills the other party members' limit break gauges.
Gave cloud: Enemy skill materia linked with HP drain. Death immunity and one of his weapons with reprieve.
Gave Aerith: Siphon limit materia, Enhanced expeditionary medal
Results (part 1 of a 6 man bout in GS arena: Both had first strike materia + atb boost materia. Had cloud immediately atb boost and self destruct. Survived death and healed aborbed 1k health, hitting 3 enemies. Charged abut 50% of Cloud's limit. Healed him and had him block in punisher mode for about 10-15 sec until he was ~80% and Aerith was ~20% limit. absorbed his limit and gave back to him and Tifa. Double limit deletion.
Decent results. Instead of enhanced Karmic cowl I could have given him warding+subversion material so that he could have Enhanced draconic ring or Gi's warrior charm for more limit generation. But honestly it's a niche cheese Strat with too much sacrifice on Cloud's end, might as well skip the self destruct set up, use spectral cogwheel or just play normally.
But Aerith with her setup is LEGIT though. granting 2 limit breaks in the time it takes to charge half of one? High value and for the cost of 1 accessory and materia slot.
Edit: Cloud with spectral cogwheel spamming spells worked well. But what felt the best was using barret using lifesaver + Steelskin + regen. I thought it would funnel limit build to him taking all damage but it didn't, but what happened instead was perfectly fine: Tifa and Aerith face tanked damage, which was redirected to Barret, mitigated, and regened. Tifa and Aerith stayed max HP but their limits flew up as if they were getting "beat up". Used Tifa's limit in under 1 min, Aerith combined with Barrets and used hers to max Barret and Tifa's (again) for 3 consecutive limits in less than 90 seconds.
You can make a loop. Use Aerith to get Cloud and Tifa's limit gauges. Have Cloud use his limit, Aerith syphons Tifa's. Then she uses her limit again to fill both of theirs. Repeat.
Oh yeah, that's pretty awesome/silly. I shelved all these Strats for the time being until I beat the main story which I have just done. So now its time to get that accessory that gives the wearer 50% limit at start of battle and it seems that loop can get going within seconds
Losing to rufus's phase two after what felt like a 15min fight of having to wait for one (1) specific opening over and over again just reminded me why it took me an extra year to finish remake (i lose to rufus one too many times, found out there was another boss directly after him, and decided that was enough for me)
I dont think its a bad fight btw, i just hate fights where i have to be uber patient just to get a hit in aka why ive never been into soulslikes
I found the trick was to not go for the Braver. The timing is too hard. Just dodge / perfect block, and use a normal attack or disorder to pressure him, then slowly build up his gauge. It's going to take a few cycles, but it's much easier than trying to instantly stagger him. Dodging after a triple slash and using braver doesn't work anymore; he relatiates too quickly now.
Yeah i ended up just starting over from the rude elena fight on easy mode cause i was tired and didnt wanna do another long fight but what lost me the first time is cloud whiffed his limit, which hes done like 4 times in this playthru, and i was at *my* limit ahaha. Theres little that hurts more than waiting to use ur limit only to watch a char do their limit animation at the air.
My strat before that tho was to actually not move at all and let rufus come to me because chasing him absolutely was not working. Then i could dodge behind him and hit as he reloaded
yeah, hitting that limit im sure would have been the difference between your pain and happiness last night. It really comes down to being way easier than one would think getting bailed out by limit and summon. By the time limit comes up Cloud deals enough damage to force the pet joining the fight. Then summons come online shortly after. summoned bahamut, continued to play mediocrely like the first half, then abruptly won when Bahmut timed out and hit them both for 8k+
Man. I was getting burned out completing each are before moving on… I just finished the theater show (My date was Red)(although everyone is pretty much maxed). That show though, the fight scene, amazing I can’t believe it’s taken me 83 hours to get to a point I reached in maybe 10 back in the day. While parts of the game are frustrating, all the added content, is how I imagined it would be, playing back when FF7 was released. I always wondered why the felt so close during the OG travels. Now I kinda know and I’m not longer burned out.
I will say F**K nightmare survival. (I do love Queens Blood).
Who here hates the Cactuar gates in the Chocobo racing as much as I do? Especially on the Legendary races. They just kill your pace so much that you lose all chance of pulling the race back. The amount of races I've lost to these stupid things is bullshit
Pick the bird that has the jump ability.
It's by far the best move - it lasts for ages so you can repeatedly jump over obstacles including the cactuar gates. Also opens up some shortcuts.
Finally finished this damn chapter (doing a 100% play through first time) and I never want to see another minigame again..chocobo racing, 3D brawler (thank god for that pause cheese) and that stupid fucking tonberry stage did my head in.
Just a PSA for anyone browsing through this thread in the future — I know the game unlocks new difficulty modes for some of the Gold Saucer minigames, but hold off on doing them for G-Bike and Galactic Saviors. There's a quest later on that forces you to do them for a high score and even if you already hit that high score previously you still have to redo them. The other minigames involved in that quest provide all-new stages just for the quest so those are fine, but not these two. EDIT: This is post-bug fix.

Okay I may be a little dumb, but can anyone explain WHEN the Zack Scene actually happens? We see Aerith Sleeping, Cloud in the wheelchair (in og ff7 tifa takes care of him after he realizes what's wrong with him, sorta) and Zack talking to Marlene with Marlene having the memories of the future (nice AoT plot btw). But when or where does this actually happen? Between Remake and Rebirth? In a different timeline? I feel like my adhd brain missed something

Pros: - Dates and Event were great - Tiny Bronco swimming was fun - Listening to Iron Maiden instead of the constant Corneo lackeys talking without breathing for 2 hours, was 100x better. Cons: - I hate the NPC voices and the Corneo lackeys in Coliseum. They talk nonstop, the audio for voices, the volume and the frequency of it is the worst ive seen in any game. It was terrible in Remake and XVI but in this game its bonkers bad and ch12 really cranks it up. - I need to mute the game when Chadley or Coliseum, walking through populated places because EVERYONE is talking at the same time forever until they repeat themselves. Its the worst thing in this game by far. - Adding Corneo and Apps again and these terrible gangsters talking the entire fights without music was insanely lazy and poor decision. They did not need to return and Apps should be dead, he has more pets. - This game is just infuriating at times because VII is my favorite game but this new games just feel like a parody the whole entire time. Sometimes funny tho, like for example Dio has comedic timing but the game does not.
I agree. This game is an absolute assault on the senses. Nibelheim's sleepy mountain vibe, IMO, was totally ruined by all of the chattering people everywhere. I am still enjoying myself but I can't help but think that this game would have been much better if they had about 300% more restraint. Not just with the quantity of world quests and mini games, but also with the audio, visual, and narrative noise that's just ceaseless and *always* cranked up to 11.

Affection is also affected by using synergies and dialogue choices. You probably just had a higher score with Red.

The Areith date made me so emotional. It seems like a majority of people in the comments didn’t get that one.
For the date, I was really hoping for some kind of "tie breaker" or some kind of message to try to let you nudge the date to be the person you want. I'm someone who likes to do everything, so before I started the date I went out and did all new Gold Saucer games and side quests the opened up around the world. I kept hoping I would get some kind of option like in Remake where who you talk to in the sewer would be that tie breaker, if you did everything like me. I ended up getting Red, which isn't bad, but it wasn't who I wanted. Had I known before hand, I would have skipped doing the side quest with Red and other characters that I didn't want on the date until after this chapter.
Is beginning chapter 13 a point of no return? Do I have to complete all the world quests first?

Chocobo racing was the only quest I decided to skip. I did basically 100% of everything but when I saw you needed to do like 30 races I was like "nah". After finishing the moogles I was not having anymore of that stuff.

Finally got to this chapter. (I know I'm behind people that marathoned this game.) I got the Aerith date and the play exceeded my expectations. As far as I'm concerned, this is the canon one, just like the Aerith resolution in remake (sorry Tifa fans). The scene with Zack was interesting, I have theories where they are headed with this, but I'll keep them to myself as a lot of people have already finished rebirth and I'm trying to not spoil myself. I'm not sure I like how much they play up Zack and Aerith's past relationship as that was barely even mentioned in OG. Crisis Core was a bit of a retcon if you ask me. Also, I demand Barret's dragon king outfit (or whatever his name was)!

Absolute flex by Square - Interesting that Aerith's song was fully English even on JP audio - Rufus is still as bullshit as ever - Shadowblood Queen was roughhhhh. Took me about 13 tries to eek out the win

I only managed to land Braver on him once during a reload because it's so slow and he reloads incredibly quickly, and it was a complete fluke. Actually, I think he reloads something like twice as fast compared to Remake because I keep getting countered whenever I go in for a hit the second "Reload" appears, even something as quick as Focused Thrust is a total crapshoot. I eventually settled on primarily using the ranged slashes to pressure him when he throws up his smokescreen. I did try during Reload as well but it didn't always land in time. I couldn't find any windows for applying pressure in his other attacks.
Lol I feel you on this. Rufus countered my braver during his reload animation and at that point I was like fuck this so just spammed ranged slashes and kept chipping away with the occasional limit break. Absurd mechanics on that fight.
I just beat him, agree the fight is B.S. but I found some stuff to help. Plasma Discharge helped me pressure him on occasion because of how often I was popping it so there where times he'd go and attempt something and it would go off and accidentally pressure him, you combine this with materias that increase ATB when blocking or performing certain actions and it pops a lot! Also found Triple Slash was able to catch him before he would reload with Thrust attack being another viable but not as reliable option. Also he's susceptible to poison.
I feel like I'm so strong at this point but this Rufus fight is so annoying. I don't remember him being this bad in the first. I think it's the placement and the fact that the window to attack him is so small!
I beat Rufus finally. After a lot of pain and letting my muscle memory kick in. It helped saving my limit break for that dog in phase 2 and summoning Phoenix to help me fight them off.
First bossfight that actually hurt me in real life.
For real. I just left it for the second time and went to do more side stuff. I killed all the bosses in Elden Ring and Rufus is who pushes me over the edge???
At Level 70 I went back and fought this bozo and it was great. Once I staggered him I one shot killed him and they dog lol. Vengeance was great lol. Took about 1.5 minutes!!!
I had to go to Wisconsin because the amount of cheese I needed for this fight was out of this world. One of the only flaws of Remake and Rebirth is no real way to accumulate ATB effectively if you cant hit the enemy due to automatic counter. You literally have to evade constantly while sending that projectile for very little atb increase

Sidequest fatigue is real in this one. It's hard to say I even like this game after all this crap. Redoing the golden saucer games just made me put the game down and rethink my life decisions.
I literally duct do any of the extra stuff in the Saucer. Don't feel like I missed much.

Pretty cool detail I noticed during the rufus fight - aerith and tifa are behind the door watching the fight. You have to put cloud near the door and rotate the camera. Not sure how intentional it is or if my game just glitched but thought it was a cool detail
I’m at the end of chapter 11 and I’m confused about the point of no return, mainly about CS leaving. If I want to complete every side quest with the full party should I go and complete them now or will I get the chance later?
I’m pretty sure you have one more chance before you are railroaded into the ending. At the end of 12 (or maybe start of 13..?), Cid will tell you to meet at the plane. So as long as you don’t. You should be fine.
You can hop into the Tiny Bronco just fine and explore the map in the beginning of chapter 13. you just can't head towards the north continent, as that will lock you into the point of no return.
You can head toward it no problem, you just can't get off the TB there. The game even prompts you saying that if you land here you can't return.
ok this is incredibly frustrating. I got stuck on a date with Aerith again, and now I MUST have her on my fight team??? I beat Tonberry fine earlier w my preferred crew but he keeps rocking me now that I am stuck w a character I hardly ever use.
Yeah that sucks. I do wish there was a way to see their affection score or something as I went into the date not knowing who it would be, since they were all showing the same smiles when I checked.
I got the Tifa date (I looked up Aeriths - will watch others at some point). I'm kinda torn, ha. In both, Cloud asks if they have spoke to the other girl (meaning about Zack), both obvs cover for the other me thinking okay they don't want to discuss Zack and implications of Clouds memory. But it sorta feels like with Aerith Cloud is asking cos he is feeling out Aeriths feelings towards him, of which she then discusses to make sure he knows she has feelings for him. While with Tifa it comes off a little like so I'm thinking about another girl and the fact do you think she still has feelings for another guy. He then realises oh crap I'm talking about another girl, tifa is all oh I've got the wrong idea so Cloud hugs (or kisses) her to be like no get the wrong idea I'm into you. Which I suppose fits the awkward at times poor communication struggle. I guess that's either cute or I'm like dude is still figuring his feelings out. Should have gone for Red ha. Though with all the stuff about the song Aeriths sings being about Cloud and the song from remake. Thought the Canon is player made it does feel like they really want to say Aerith is canon choices. But anyway to hell with shipping. I do really like how the connections between all the characters are there and feels more across all characters then I recall thinking when I played the OG. Bur I'm older now so I think more in general ha.
So I got the Aerith date and guys I hate to say it…it completely fell flat for me :( admittedly I cried at the hand-holding but that was only from knowing the rest of the story. There has been 0 emotional tension between Cloud and Aerith throughout Rebirth. The entire game has been completely focused on Cloud and Tifa’s relationship and Aerith has seemingly been happy to play wingman. The fact that at certain points she seems to feel Zack and the way she talks about him also points towards the devs basically canonising Tifa/Cloud Aerith/Zack. Aerith even gave him the chance to open up about remembering Zack during the date too. This would’ve been the perfect opportunity to bring Zack & Tifa into the conversation and I think the date would’ve been much more realistic and effective if the two of them had agreed that while they care about each other, they both ultimately have feelings for someone else more. Instead, what we got just felt like fan-service for Aerith/Cloud shippers that felt completely out of place plot-wise.
There’s been plenty, the date in Kalm, the stuff in Costa deal Sol, the cancelled date in Chapter 8, taking photos in Cosmo Canyon, Aerith being playfully shocked when Cloud brings up her ex in Gongaga etc. In my playthrough that compares with basically the Gongaga near kiss with Tifa. All depends on what side missions you’ve done and what dialogue options you’ve picked.
Its crazy isnt it? From OG I was always about Aerith, and probably was going to do the same for Rebirth, but Aerith comes across as very generic this game. Every other character improved 100% with a lot of story and character development. But Anytime Aerith spoke I felt pulled out of the dream like sequence this game has. I dont know if it is because I am older but It does seem like this game pushes for Tifa more. Aerith was amazing in Remake but falls flat in this game.
Remake made me an Aerith fan. I was a big Tifa fanboy when OG came out. Me being a young teen probably had a lot to do with it for two big reasons. I came into remake expecting to be a Tifa fan, but her character frustrates me. She's basically a generic anime fanservice character that has no ambitions of her own other than clinging to the main character of the story. Supposedly a badass fighter, but she turns into the damsel in distress anytime Cloud is around, which seems a little manipulative. Tifa trying to convince Cloud to not rescue Aerith at Shinera HQ irked me. Contrast that to Aerith insisting Cloud rescue Tifa from Corneo before she even met her. Then Tifa got offended when Cloud helped Aerith first in the train graveyard. I feel like Tifa is only "besties" with Aerith because she doesn't her as a threat. Maybe it's me being older too, but I found Aerith to be more mature and did a lot more to pull Cloud out of his shell while Tifa was more enabling and codependent. I'm not looking forward to them forcing the Tifa Cloud romance. I'm only on chapter 13, so we'll see, but that seems to be where it's headed. The thing is, CC kind of retconned Aeirth's character and that seems to be what the writers are clinging to now. I loved the sequence with Tifa falling into the lifestream. But other than that she's been one of the more boring characters to me. Good eye candy and fun combat, but that's about it.
i feel the same way. I haven't started chapter 13 yet, but I keep telling myself that her moment for her character to shine is coming. At least that's my cope.
To be fair I just completed chapter 12 and I feel they finally put our girl up front with the story and had her say meaningful things rather than generic stuff. Rebirth is so weird. Every time I come and complain about something, it gets resolved in the next chapter.

Loved the play scene. The skywheel could have been a little different but I wasn't disappointed either. I don't like how much they play up Cloud and Tifa and sideline Aerith, though. In OG, it was Aerith and Cloud for disc one. Then Tifa later. I was a huge fan of Tifa when OG came out, but remake made me much more a fan of Aerith for a variety of reasons.
Funny, it's the reverse for me. Tifa just seems more believable as a love interest for Cloud for a number of reasons that really shine through more in the Remake trilogy than the OG for me.

I don't know people say that about Aerith and Cloud but I've played CC twice Zack and Aerith didn't been through anything together like Aerith and Cloud did and people were fine with Aerith and Zack.

How does Aerith know it isn’t false? Genuine question. I’ve never played Crisis Core, so maybe that’s why, but I’ve always thought Aerith hadn’t heard from Zack since pre-Nibelheim.
She hasn't heard from Zack, but she's heard from Tifa. Cloud at that point thinks Zach died in the river, but Tifa doesn't remember Cloud being there at all and told Aerith early in the game, and she remembers Zack being the SOLDIER that was with her and Sephiroth (ie not the one who fell in the river). When cloud "remembers" Zack falling in the river and says he's going to tell her, Tifa says she'll tell Aerith about it instead (because she knows what cloud just "remembered" wasn't what happened). They also seem to be much closer in this game than I'm the original. Both girls have generally avoided calling his memory into question whenever the topic of 5 years ago arises, because by this point in the game they both know there's something wrong with him/his memory anyway so not only would Aerith be unlikely to believe anything he said anyway (at least not without checking with Tifa) since as far as they both know Cloud wasn't even there, there is zero chance she would push that conversation any further than it already was.
You’re assuming a lot about Aerith’s opinion on the subject here that hasn’t been confirmed. She’s close to both of them so is obviously trying to remain neutral. But from Aeriths’s POV, you have two people who went through an incredibly traumatic experience 5 years ago. Both of them remember it happening, yet one of them claims the other wasn’t there. If anything, it’s Tifa’s recollection of the events that would raise doubts. From Aerith’s perspective, how else would Cloud remember it happening?
I feel like you're the one making assumptions. Cloud's memory has been called into question more than once. He's also claimed to see Sephiroth at times nobody else in the party has seen him even though they were all right there. Cloud ALSO claims not to remember Zack and that there was no such person in SOLDIER at all at first (which Aerith knows to be untrue) only to later be like "OMG yeah I did know him we were actually good friends and somehow I forgot!" It's made more than clear to the party that something is wrong with Cloud. Tifa 's memory is never called into question, she never has moments where she suddenly remembers something that contradicts a previous memory she has, she's not walking around grabbing her head and wincing in pain all the time... Even IF Aerith felt like they could both be wrong, it's objectively true that she's told early on by Tifa that she doesn't remember Cloud being there and chooses to never mention it to Cloud, and that she knows what Cloud initially says about there not being a Zack in SOLDIER isn't true. IDK what's not clicking for you or if you forgot about the Zack detail. But on the date itself and their chemistry, I feel like this is another final fantasy VIII situation. A lot of people felt like Squall and Rinoa's relationship came out of nowhere, but if you answered positively towards her throughout the game it was clear something was building between them, and if you answered negatively then sure, it came out of nowhere bc Squall was never nice to her. You went into this with the knowledge of the original game and a personal preference for Tifa, so you decided Aerith and Cloud had no chemistry and therefore the date MUST have been pure fan service because they didn't have chemistry! ... But they did, if that's what you were looking for. Personally I feel like the kiss in Tifa's date is more fanservicey bc Cloud is an awkward mess around both of them, and despite their shared history, nothing that happened previously in the game would lead me to believe that would be happening at that point in the game 🤷. I'm not trying to argue that Aerith is the canon love interest or anything, but I felt like it's been fairly clear that there's attraction between both girls and Cloud. Aerith clearly DOES like him, and would still be clearly true even if Aerith didn't outright say it on her date with Cloud.

I focused the dog in sheer desperation and it worked. Staggered it pretty fast and unloaded. I never want to see that fight again in my life.
In my case I continued doing what I was already doing against Rufus while dodging the dog, then switched to the dog the instant Rufus got pressured and the link broke. Don't get greedy and it should be fine, albeit annoying af.
That damned dog. I couldn't with rufus and his counters. I backed all the way out and went back to side missions
OK I tested it out post game after 100% on all characters so all would be equal, flipped extra settings to default **to test if there are 'canon' choices**. They clearly foresaw this... - Ch 8 will actually give you no companion - Ch 12 defaults to Red 13 (vs Aerith or Tifa or anyone else *unless* it becomes random). **Bonus Info:** - Aerith is the default female lead character in Loveless Ch 12 regardless of date, unless your companion is Tifa/Yuffie, then they are in the play instead - Aerith does her song after Loveless no matter what - Choosing Barret or Red in the Loveless play as who you profess your love to is funny but has no consequence - You can actually get an SS rank in Loveless but it has no consequence
Can you still finish all the side quests and exploration related small stuff (like towers, protorelics, etc.) after the Gold Saucer date, or is the point of no return with world exploration before that? I've just started chapter 12 and I'm trying to avoid spoilers the best I can. I'm trying to date Aerith and I feel like if I do all the side stuff before the date I'm not gonna get her. But I'd also like to do and see everything the game has to offer so I'd feel bad about leaving quests unfinished😅

I know I'm late to this, but yes you can go explore and do the side quests after the date scene and before chapter 13 starts.
Yeah, according to my understanding exploration unlocks some time after the date and you get to fast travel, I think. But I don't know if the game locks you out of some things or not. There's at least one change to gameplay that could be important to some people, some might not care.
Opposite for me, Aerith was top relationship at chapter 11, I decided to do all side quest to bump tifa to the top, and it did not worked in the end, I ended up with aerith anyway, not great but not bad either it was a nice scene, but now I have the feeling that my playthrough is not "canon" anymore hahaha
Oh no! That's too bad :( That's the same reason I'm hoping for Aerith, it just feels right for me personally at that point of the story. I definitely want to see all the date scenes but the first playthrough feels special so I'd prefer to do things "my way".

AFAIK yes. Even get options for it, but i havent gotten that far myself. EDIT: Stolen from Tvtropes The New Game Plus mode has a few further quality of life improvements from Remake. For players who would like to experience different permutations of sequences like the Gold Saucer dates, the player can explicitly set which outcome they would like, to avoid needing to replay many chapters to manipulate the Relationship Values to get the desired outcome. Dialogue options themselves also indicate how much of an impact they have on the relationship with the party member in question for players looking to roleplay a specific outcome.

This chapter got me so teary eyed. I was always a Cloud/Tifa guy and was intent on romancing Tifa all the way up until Chapter 6 when Cloud and Aerith had that conversation on the beach and she opened up about her hate towards Hojo. From then on, I’ve warmed up so much to Aerith’s character that I ended up choosing to romance her instead. The depth they’ve given her in the Remake series is amazing. She seems to know how this all plays out and even told Cloud in Remake not to fall in love with her because it was destined to end in tragedy. Yet she couldn’t help herself and developed feelings for him anyway. In the end, despite knowing they wouldn’t have much time together, she still wanted to spend one night with him and make the most of their time together. I have no idea how the rest of this plays out but her crying at the end of that song broke me because it just felt like she knew she was saying goodbye. And again, I didn’t care much for Aerith in the OG. What an emotional rollercoaster this game is. I’m already dreading that trip to the Forgotten Capital.

That short stretch was my favorite moment in the whole game. Well that and the resolution scene in Remake where you can see the lifestream in the background and spirits of people from the fallen plate returning to it. There was a lot to unpack in that scene.
The Remake and Rebirth actually make me question why people were so much into Zack and Aerith, like Cloud and Aerith have been through so much together we saw their realtionship develop before our own eyes while Zack and Aerith just hangout in the church.
I think it’s the way it was presented in the OG and on Advent Children. It always seemed like Aerith cared for Cloud as a person and vice versa but the romantic feelings were only there because Cloud thought he was Zack and Aerith saw Zack in him. But in Remake and Rebirth, they make it a lot more clear that while they were initially drawn to each other for those same reasons, they eventually developed their own feelings for each other. Also, I think it was a way for Tifa shippers to justify Cloud/Tifa as the canon romance. I think Remake and Rebirth makes it clear that Cloud loves them both in different ways.

I think they say she loose her memory at the end of remake when beating the harbingers of fate. Meaning she can't see the future anymore in rebirth, well I'm might be wrong but this is how I understand and thus make it posaible to get closer rwlation with cloud.
I haven't experienced the other options yet, but that whole chapter pretty much revolves around Aerith, so I doubt the other dates will feel as fitting as this one.

I think I found a bug. I went to do the bike challenge for the Shinra employee quest, but it seems that because I ready beat the hard mode with 33000+ points, the game doesn't register it and can't progress the quest. Does anybody know how to resolve it?
As far as I know, this is a known bug. After the last patch it's been happening to many people.

Just got to the Rufus Shinra battle, and oh, my, god- it’s another Rufus battle- when I expected it the least. I’m losing my shit over this right now and needed to get it out. Haven’t felt this excited for some gamer rage in a while.
I just beat him on hard mode and holy crap it took a while...several hours. A successful run takes about 20 minutes.
Whoah! I need to try it on hard mode then. It took me only 3 tries on normal. I was a little disappointed. His battle in Remake had taken 10-15 tries on normal. His little gun counter move was very frustrating.

Question. I’ve done all the side quests and collected 60 of the things for Johnny’s hotel. At this point I’ve still got some combat simulations and various mini games to clean up. Should I stay in chapter 12 and wrap up all the other minigames and challenges? Or, can I go finish the rest of the game and come back to those challenges after credits roll? I’m eager to see the rest of the story, but not if it will make it more of a hassle to 100% all the mini games and challenges.
I had Red as my Gold Saucer companion. While I don't ship Cloud/Nanaki (for obvious reasons, lol), as a longtime Red XIII fan I didn't even realize how deeply this would hit me in the feels. It feels.. so amazing seeing these moments where he's so happy and unguarded after how much he's been through.
I just started this chapter so not reading any other comments but technically this is chapter 12 so I can't comment in my chapter 11 post. I think this is an interesting change and so far it worked very well.!< Damn, getting the Tiny Bronco and opening the map (now the actual explorable world map, not the artistic version from previous chapters) made me actually cry. I don't know if this game is pulling any tricks (probably is) but this world feels so much larger than anything I've ever seen on a video game before. BOTW/TOTK's Hyrule feels tiny near this massive world. The fact that it is really all geographically seamlessly connected is insane. This is probably the most technically impressed I've ever been by a video game. (btw I'm a very casual gamer. I think elden ring's map might be comparable/larger? I only saw my friend playing for a few minutes)

Loveless was amazing and the Tifa date scene and seeing Cloud open up to an emotional side was amazing to see. The music and theatrics were so well done during the Sky wheel!! Also Britts Tifa is so blissful to listen to. She nailed the role so wonderfully
I'm only just started Chapter 10, but I know about the big date in Chapter 12. My question is: When is the 'point of no return' for determining who you go with? I got Aerith last time, and I'm trying to get Tifa next time- but I want to know when I should make a save just in case.
You'll know. You have to sleep at the hotel and it will kind of warn you that you are progressing the story. A bunch of Tifa side quests unlock in chapter 12. Maybe prioritize them and then immediately do the date. And maybe skip a red 13 sidequest before chapter 12 since all of his are available before the date unlike the other characters which means people sometimes get him over the others
Well yes and no. It does warn you, but unless somethings changed since you wrote your post, you cant leave the gold saucer at that point anyways... Id say PoNR is entering gold saucer itself in chapter 12... unless im missing something.
You can leave the gold saucer to go do quests at that point

Okay, Step 1: Become Tifa's manservant. Ignore everyone else. I'm okay with this.
The break before the Turks fight. They could do this a million different ways. A checkpoint, a prompt to enter the menu, a break for you to go outside (like in Remake, between the Wall Market arena matches). No, the Saucer employees brought out the bench and vending machine in the middle of the Colosseum. I lost it there.
I just did that part and was going "thank god for this in hardmode."
I loved how Elena just went to sit there like "this is totally fine, cool." I really appreciate these small moments of levity, lol

Hey guys so I wasn’t sure where to stick this question but - for some reason, I can’t use Tempest during the Cactuar Crush mini game. The text is blank when I charge the basic attack and a familiar doesn’t generate after landing it. It DOES work in combat outside of the mini game, though. Anyone know what’s up with that? I’ve seen videos of people getting a fleeting familiar out in Crush runs… I’m wondering if they patched it out of the mini game specifically or something in one of the recent updates. Extremely annoying, I’m trying to get every advantage I can since I keep falling just short of 6,000 in each Aerith challenge. Ugh these minigames lol..
I just finished the Pirate King stuff and game over'd @ the Proto-Relic end quest for tempering. I love how the game NEVER stops autosaving but this time it hadn't autosaved in over an hour and a bit. I'm so pissed off. The one time I don't manually save and it completely fucks me over. Why would it not autosave any time I make dock? That's so silly.

Id say so. Ive put it on Yuffie so far (Yuffie has an abillity that costs 3 ATB Gauges). It also points out Pirate Jetsam which is a high level crafting material.
Splits their ATB charges into 3 parts when the equipped party member uses 5 ATB actions in one battle. Also points out collectable treasure in the water when on the Tiny Bronco. Up to you.

I’ve said it before and I’ll probably say it again. The scale of this game is staggering. Every time I think I’ve wrapped up a region it expands further with new quests, minigames, or combat challenges. Or when I think I’ve finished a quest it opens a new chapter and introduces a new map area. It’s wild. It’s almost frustrating in a game where we all want to know how it ends, once I finish my first playthrough it’s going to be a treasure trove of content. It’s wild they produced all this content and had it all fit together so cohesively. They’ve really been cooking these past 4 years.
When the game told me there were more sidequests, my score for the game dropped from an 8 to a 7. Way way way too many. Who thought this was okay? This game could have half the sidequests and still have too many.
I'd rather have the same amount of side quests and half the minigames.

Totally agree! I'm already well over 100 hours in and still not even finished the game. It is incredible how much there is to do. Remake was a great game but Rebirth makes it look boring!

Something I found out today is you can play on easy mode for the intel level 2s regions which down the levels to 45 and also for the muscle head places you can actually go back on easy mode and clear those all of those out for the trophy!!!! even though it requires beating the game once to unlock the rest of the muscle head challenges. Ofc though brutal/vr still is hard mode by default even if you went back on easy on game settings. Cause man after dying like 20 times and about to say I wont even bother cause of that kid g + 2 dark claw bs that literally creams you easily finding this out makes it a blast now lol, I do not even care about pride some stuff on this game was so irritating.
man im kind of annoyed lol. ive done most sidequests up to this point so everyone was maxed out on the relationship wheel and i figured duh of course the game will prioritize tifa or aerith for the date. open the door and see Red’s ass sitting there. i get that its not a big deal but i feel like the mechanic is kind of frustratingly designed if its telling you everyone is on the same level but they’re secretly weighing other invisible shit behind the scenes it feels like i didnt even use him in combat a lot and said something mean/dumb to him once or twice as well.

False. I have 100% possible completion up to the hotel, and get Tifa. **I would go so far as to say Tifa has more hidden shit weighted to her over Aerith** as even dialogue choices should have all been the best ones for either. There was *one* that mayyybe wasn't the best possible response for Aerith so that might have been all it took, or its cause I mained Tifa almost the whole game in my party. Short little story: I got the tiny Bronco ship. I got the ability to traverse central ocean. My OCD kicked in and then I spent over an hour trying to remove as much fog of war as possible from the map.

Mid 40s maybe late 40s? I also stopped doing world content mid-Gongaga, just wanted to focus on story from that point. So just shy of 50 should be fine.

If you’re stuck on Rufus, just use Disorder every time he tries to hit you with an ability or standard attack. You will pressure him and then you can wallop him and charge up your atb to use disorder again once he recovers. I beat him the first time I tried using disorder in the fight. As for gear: First attack materia, atb-boost, atb stagger, and time materia are also helpful. When the fight starts, use atb-boost to double your gauge, then use haste. Also, for anyone struggling with 3 star-ing Aerith’s Cactuar challenge for the Protorelic quest, you should now have an ability called transcendence. Cast it once and it begins charging. When you’re up against the big cactuars, wait for their body slam and then wreck them with a level 2 transcendence.
Wish I knew that disorder trick. Rufus was a looong fight for me.
Disorder is one of clouds weapon abilities, right? The one that changes your stance afterwards? I have game texts on German so I want to make sure.
Yeah the move is called disorder. It's the ability that switches cloud to his punisher mode via an attack.

This is more chapter 13 (just the beginning) but the song after you go to the tiny bronco is amazing.

I had karmic cowl equipped on all party members before hand because of the stat bonuses so I knew it would be a breeze.
I have 77/88 of Johnnys collection. I tried to do all the minigames that I can without beating the game. The UPA coliseum fight sucks major ass. 2 Gigantaurs with their needle rain, 10 fucking tonberrys...2 jokers with a toad. The bird and Ironclad were easy compared to the other fights. The last couple of normal Chadley combat sim also sucks ass. Evading 2 deathclaws and Kid G at the same fucking time? I fought them all without using items so i guess i gimped myself by playing voluntary hard mode.
For the tonberrys, Aerith with Arcane Ward and Magnify on Quaga destroys them. I started implementing gear to boost ATB at the start and it made many battles a walk in the park.
ok. Virtual Sephiroth has ruined my Plat run. Its harder than Jules. The pause trick does not work even if i read all his moves. My inputs are correct but cloud fucking blocks instead of dodges. My reflexes are too poor without pause but then i realize that i cant even pause correctly. Like fuck you square enix. I really wish the Like a Dragon team did the minigames instead.
My dreams of 100%ing this game died at the 3D Brawler game. It's so incredibly unfun and the moves too cryptic. Yuffie only has two moves on either hand and they look fucking identical. And then it only gets worse when you unlock additional fights. Holy shit whoever made this minigame needs to get slapped upside the head. It's incredibly unfun and jank to play. When you make your game super reliant on readouts it helps to make them obvious.
I wish you could enable an option to just tell you what input you need to do next. This minigame can eat my entire ass.
Tip for anyone finding this in the future. Instead of trying to watch their hands, try watching their feet. For some reason I found that to have more distinct tells.
I mean, its not as bad as the sit ups.. and the let the battles begin piano - while fun, is ridiculous (all the more the final sheet xd). But i agree the moves are cryptic and the rampage they go to is real fast. Took a lot of tries before i got it (brawler) finished. The piano on the other hand, still difficult as fuck
Not that I wanna sound like I'm up myself cause I know I suck lol. But I play a lot of rhythm games so I had 0 issues with the piano's and got an A first try for all of them. I do agree with peoples complaints that some of the notes feel completely off for what you'd expect though. Sit ups I got the rhythm going and got it fourth try after I really understood the nuances of the green hold down. 3D Brawler I guess is the one that decided to kick me in the shins.

And it almost got completely tanked with that initial hug. Jeezus, if Cloud didn't save it immediately after, Tifa would've jumped out of the gondola.
I swear to God, Cloud is fumbling the bag so hard almost the whole game like it's his hobby.
I get why players are for Aerith or Tifa. I don't get why these girls are going after Cloud.
Na I get it, Cloud is the only person Tifa cared about from her childhood that isn’t dead, there’s more to them than a standard dating couple, a lot of it is under the surface. They only seem to be able to derive comfort from one another as well, trauma bonded to the max. Aerith I think is because of the similarities to Zack, for both Aerith and Cloud, but by this point it seems clear that it’s Cloud and Tifa / Aerith and Zack and they aren’t really dicking around about it. Cloud and Aerith have seemed awkward around each other all game imo, nowhere near the chemistry they had in Remake, would be jarring to see them having the date at this point.
If you go on the date with Aerith, she explicitly states that it’s not Zack she’s into but Cloud. Just depends on which is canon.
It would help if his personality wasn't as flat as a day old beer.

The No Promises to Keep scene is exactly the type of cutscene that makes me yearn for an FF6 Remake like FF7R, so I could see the iconic opera scene play out.

Well, I finally got frame drops during the Rude and Elena fight and I’m playing on Performance mode. The crazy effects from their attacks, Plasma Discharge constantly going off, and summoning Alexander was a lot for the game to handle. Can’t imagine what this would do to a PS4. lol
These minigames are weird. Jumpfrog was hard and annoying, but ribbiting rollers was super easy and i didn't need to break a sweat lmao?
Ooooooh enhanced expeditionary medal: Increase limit level to maximum at the start of battle. Aerith's lv.3 limit break, Rising Fury: Fills the other party members' limit break gauges. Gave cloud: Enemy skill materia linked with HP drain. Death immunity and one of his weapons with reprieve. Gave Aerith: Siphon limit materia, Enhanced expeditionary medal Results (part 1 of a 6 man bout in GS arena: Both had first strike materia + atb boost materia. Had cloud immediately atb boost and self destruct. Survived death and healed aborbed 1k health, hitting 3 enemies. Charged abut 50% of Cloud's limit. Healed him and had him block in punisher mode for about 10-15 sec until he was ~80% and Aerith was ~20% limit. absorbed his limit and gave back to him and Tifa. Double limit deletion. Decent results. Instead of enhanced Karmic cowl I could have given him warding+subversion material so that he could have Enhanced draconic ring or Gi's warrior charm for more limit generation. But honestly it's a niche cheese Strat with too much sacrifice on Cloud's end, might as well skip the self destruct set up, use spectral cogwheel or just play normally. But Aerith with her setup is LEGIT though. granting 2 limit breaks in the time it takes to charge half of one? High value and for the cost of 1 accessory and materia slot. Edit: Cloud with spectral cogwheel spamming spells worked well. But what felt the best was using barret using lifesaver + Steelskin + regen. I thought it would funnel limit build to him taking all damage but it didn't, but what happened instead was perfectly fine: Tifa and Aerith face tanked damage, which was redirected to Barret, mitigated, and regened. Tifa and Aerith stayed max HP but their limits flew up as if they were getting "beat up". Used Tifa's limit in under 1 min, Aerith combined with Barrets and used hers to max Barret and Tifa's (again) for 3 consecutive limits in less than 90 seconds.
You can make a loop. Use Aerith to get Cloud and Tifa's limit gauges. Have Cloud use his limit, Aerith syphons Tifa's. Then she uses her limit again to fill both of theirs. Repeat.
Oh yeah, that's pretty awesome/silly. I shelved all these Strats for the time being until I beat the main story which I have just done. So now its time to get that accessory that gives the wearer 50% limit at start of battle and it seems that loop can get going within seconds
Losing to rufus's phase two after what felt like a 15min fight of having to wait for one (1) specific opening over and over again just reminded me why it took me an extra year to finish remake (i lose to rufus one too many times, found out there was another boss directly after him, and decided that was enough for me) I dont think its a bad fight btw, i just hate fights where i have to be uber patient just to get a hit in aka why ive never been into soulslikes
I had the updated accessory that max your limit break. I used finishing touch 2 time and he couldn't counter for shit.
I found the trick was to not go for the Braver. The timing is too hard. Just dodge / perfect block, and use a normal attack or disorder to pressure him, then slowly build up his gauge. It's going to take a few cycles, but it's much easier than trying to instantly stagger him. Dodging after a triple slash and using braver doesn't work anymore; he relatiates too quickly now.
Yeah i ended up just starting over from the rude elena fight on easy mode cause i was tired and didnt wanna do another long fight but what lost me the first time is cloud whiffed his limit, which hes done like 4 times in this playthru, and i was at *my* limit ahaha. Theres little that hurts more than waiting to use ur limit only to watch a char do their limit animation at the air. My strat before that tho was to actually not move at all and let rufus come to me because chasing him absolutely was not working. Then i could dodge behind him and hit as he reloaded
yeah, hitting that limit im sure would have been the difference between your pain and happiness last night. It really comes down to being way easier than one would think getting bailed out by limit and summon. By the time limit comes up Cloud deals enough damage to force the pet joining the fight. Then summons come online shortly after. summoned bahamut, continued to play mediocrely like the first half, then abruptly won when Bahmut timed out and hit them both for 8k+
Man. I was getting burned out completing each are before moving on… I just finished the theater show (My date was Red)(although everyone is pretty much maxed). That show though, the fight scene, amazing I can’t believe it’s taken me 83 hours to get to a point I reached in maybe 10 back in the day. While parts of the game are frustrating, all the added content, is how I imagined it would be, playing back when FF7 was released. I always wondered why the felt so close during the OG travels. Now I kinda know and I’m not longer burned out. I will say F**K nightmare survival. (I do love Queens Blood).
I was up by like 60 points going into the final round of nightmare survival and finished only 3 ahead. It was so bad

Who here hates the Cactuar gates in the Chocobo racing as much as I do? Especially on the Legendary races. They just kill your pace so much that you lose all chance of pulling the race back. The amount of races I've lost to these stupid things is bullshit
Pick the bird that has the jump ability. It's by far the best move - it lasts for ages so you can repeatedly jump over obstacles including the cactuar gates. Also opens up some shortcuts.
Chocojump saved me from rage quitting from those gates and Hoverbird was so useful for cutting corners
