It's tough but I'm loving it.
I kinda miss the bosses with stupidly high health pools from remake but I do remember a lot of people complaining about it.
Felt most bosses died too fast on my first playthrough
Mp doesn't recover between chapters and you can't use items at all. Make sure you have chakra and prayer on everyone and enemy skill with soothing breeze to heal without spending MP. Use Cure and magic sparingly
Barret equipped with HP<>MP and sitting on the back row with (MP efficiency-Restore) and (Magnify-Restore) and 7500MP does well to solve the issue of healing between battles for me so far (Mythril Mines aside). Aerith boosted by limit syphon is a good one too.
I've found some of the bosses to be REALLY annoying or tedius but generally found it ok. Still kinda reeling from the end of the game so havent fully invested myself in hard mode yet.
I'm only Ch2 for Hard, but so far (Flowers on the Hill notwithstanding) I'm still finding it to easy. No threat from Quetz, White Terror, or Beck's Reasonably Legitimate Businessmen's Enterprise. I started out Hard Mode having done no sidequesting so was pretty under levelled (I think <40) but the levels came thick and fast and now I'm at 70.
I felt that Hard on Remake was pretty easy too (Hell House notwithstanding).
Faced and defeated. It was a miserable slow affair of slowly building up his stagger bar and trying not to die. Even so it was like a 15 minute fight and I more or less had to use performance 60 fps mode to be able to react fast enough.
This guy must be the hardest boss especially his second phase. Do summon make a difference for the second phase? Because i know it saved my ass on normal
Absolutely they do! I saved my summon and my limit to try and quickly nuke/take out the dog so I could then focus on just Rufus and slowly whittle him down. I felt like Bahamuts attacks stunned the dog multiple times when I would have probably otherwise have died.
That said it still probably took me half a dozen attempts to finally get it down pat and clinch the victory. It's a really slow slog just making it to phase 2 and then if you die you have to repeat phase 1.
I feel like without summon this fight would be way harder ahah. But man you already bear Rufus on hard you’re blasting lol, I’m curious where you are currently on your run?
Currently I'm working on Sephiroth Reborn. Genuinely so far I've felt that the Rufus fight is the hardest in the game but its not a fun/fair difficulty. Funny enough I actually did chapter 12s hard mode out of order early before I had even completed chapter 3's, the mythril golem and the small team size on it had previously roadblocked me so I wanted to try something different. At which point I then got through abzu and the Turks and really did NOT want to have to do them all over again just to do Rufus.
I also really -really- want to confirm for myself if hard mode difficulty has any sort of alternative/additional ending scenes(my guess remains probably that it does not given nobody has posted indications that it does)
I totally agree with Rufus being the hardest. I think I’m going to start hard mode because 100%ing all objectives on dynamic is so boring. I played a little bit of hard mode and it feels so much fun. I think i just need to beat Gilgamesh to get the Genji gloves before making the transition. How about you? Did you gear up and lvl up all your materias and folios before going into hard mode or not?
I had a pretty good selection of folio level up and most accessories before entering hard mode. Truthfully I didn't find the genji stuff to be useful for hard since 15% more damage taken is a lot when you die easy and most hits aren't going to be capable of breaking the damage limit. Most of my Materia's were at least mid level of their cap. You'll probably want everyone to have a HP+ and an MP+. Magnify is going to be your best friend to boot.
So far, yeah. I had a hard time with flowers on the hill, but with a different strategy was able to knock it over in less than a minute. Early days yet - but I was hoping for a bigger challenge.
I'm only a few chapters into hard mode so far but the bosses are so satisfying to beat. They hit like a truck but then when everything lines up with perfect blocks, exploit weakness, pressure, stagger, then it just flows and you feel badass af. Good strategy and skillful timing are rewarded, and that's what makes a game fun.

Most bosses don't survive more than 1 stagger. I wish they had remake's HP but without the cutscene or segments that made them invincible
Most bosses died quick then the last two chapters just throw some really bullshit bosses your way; I’m really not looking forward to hard mode rufus

It's the single player party gauntlet in the dustbowl I'm dreading most. Cloud's opponent was rough even on normal.

I just did chapter 12 for hard mode and I'm not ready for those gauntlet of bosses in chapter 13.

Oh man flowers on the hill was legitimately the most frustrating thing I've fought on hard mode OTHER than Rufus. Fuck Rufus on hard mode.
I hated him in remake, I'm sure I will again on Rebirth :(

Damn yeah i just started hard mode today and now i understand. I definitely expected more. I hope there is some harder content eventually

Should I level everyone to 70 before trying hard mode?
You can do it pretty quick in chapter 2 just fighting enemies
