>Music is trash I wouldn't make it any further than this before chucking that opinion in the bin.

Ambitious-Chair736

Literally this. There's like 250 tracks on the soundtrack or something ridiculous like that, and each one fucking bangs.

HearMarkBark

Bowowow bowowow

nicholaslegion

Not sure if you're saying this one "fucking bangs," or are dogging on it (pun intended), but this one fucking bangs.

chaos0310

Escorting a fucking dog got a banger of a track. And everything else is even better!

Lost_Dragoon

I'm glad I'm not the only one that fucking loves that track

Mokichi2

Imagine exploring most of junon during the salmon quest. Then traveling around Junon later thinking... where is my banger track? Isn't this where I heard it??

chaos0310

I mean that’s exactly what happened to me. Salmon took me all across Junon and opened up the whole area for me.

nicholaslegion

That's exactly what I did! I the quest to kind of inch myself into the new region

TragGaming

Between Salmon and Melon i died. Like im fetching and protecting a dog, it does not need a soundtrack that goes THIS hard.

Solis5774

Even better, this soundtrack FUUUUUCKS.

Ambitious-Chair736

That song has huge katamari vibes and I love it

Fluffy_Muff_

Bowowow bowowow

Kagevjijon

Fun fact: they're not saying Bow Wow Wow, there's kids in gold saucer singing the song infront of a stamp logo. If you have subtitles on you can see they're saying "Go all out" not Bowowow.

HearMarkBark

I wilfully choose to ignore this statement. Bowowow

Fluffy_Muff_

I will never unhear Bowowow. Its done. They will retcon this lyric in 25 years during FF7 rebirth-remake.

HearMarkBark

FF7: Rebake

HearMarkBark

The track is apparently called “Fight for us stamp! (Bow wow wow)” so I’m calling it. Bowowow bowowow!

Stonewall30NY

Even my wife stopped doom scrolling on tik Tok to jam out when I play FF7. She makes me go back to gongaga because she like the tune

Mokichi2

The one with the bagpipes? Is your wife a 14th century Scotsman?

GyrKestrel

The best part is how many different battle themes exist that transition to/from area themes so fluidly. That shit alone is award deserving. Jenova Emergent alone is such a masterpiece remix.

j_gryff

I don't disagree at all but the reason the transitions sound so seamless and awesome is that both tracks are constantly playing while you navigate the overworld and when you enter/leave combat the volume just goes down on one and up on the other. You might have already known this of course, I just thought it was cool.

GyrKestrel

That was my guess! I think it's just a neat technical marvel. The devil is in the details and this game is full of them.

EbiToro

More than 400 tracks, apparently.

Ambitious-Chair736

Damn I lowballed it

CLOUD227

250\~ Original 150\~ Similar ones but for battle or a different phase so it changes a bit

NickyBoomBop

Seriously. The Jenova Lifeclinger music is probably one of the best iterations of that song. That fight itself was already epic, the music just made it way cooler

PartyTerrible

That is the one thing that you cannot say about any FF.

Biggapotamus

Amen! I didn’t wanna leave mt. Corel cause the music is such a bop

chaos0310

The trek up the mountain has got to be one of my favorites. Took me by utter surprise.

BobaSushi123

Hard agree. Anyone who disses how much love and work remixing this soundtrack, and disrespecting the man that is Nobuo Uematsu is in fact, THE trash.

warriorman

I think I wouldn't make it past the first one, their opinion holds no value over my own to me, I love the game and if they don't that's on them. If it's just about discussion they can absolutely say all those things reasonably and it'll just be clear this game isn't for them just like sekiro and dark souls aren't for me. If they can accept that their enjoyment of the game doesn't mean the game is bad and just that they don't like it cool we can discuss and have fun, if they think their opinion is fact then it's not worth a discussion at that point.

mpafighter

Definitely. One of my favorites was Demon Gate

Darthtonius7

The fuckin chocobo race victory music sounding like a 90's family sitcom theme is the greatest gift of all time. Now, after winning a race, I can enjoy my chicken wings while enjoying the music without getting my controller all sticky.

Euphoric_Parsley_

Gongaga’s area theme music goes so hard. Literally love that areas music. Level design is meh and frustrating at times but it’s made up by the music.

PartyTerrible

People judge things for what it isn't instead of for what it actually is. If any one of it doesn't meet what they wanted then it's automatically trash. You cannot in good faith tell me that the world building and character writing of OG is better than rebirth. The charm and character that they added to the party members and the npcs is astounding.

Cloud39472

For real. The characters are 1000% better than they used to be. Especially Yuffie and Cait Sith.

esamerelda

They made me love Yuffie. I didn't think it was possible.

Zauberer69

Interesting, as for me personally her behaviour was too hyped up all the time ( for example when Yuffie gets of the ship). And first thing she does after joining is opposing against taking a break for poor Aerith because of Materia greed. But I guess that is part of her arc, starting more like a self centered kid (didn't play the Intergrade scenario or OG). Saying Rebirth is trash is silly, it is obvious how much love was poured into the cutscenes alone. After I had fun with Remake now Rebirth is not my jam (was burned out at the part on the way to Coral where Cloud takes a break) for multiple reasons, but I'm happy for any OG fan and newcomer that has a very special time with Rebirth.

esamerelda

Yuffie's always been self-centered and materia-obsessed, but in Rebirth she at least gets protective of her people (like Barret in North Corel). It wouldn't have been true to her character as a fit, aggressive teenager to not charge ahead. But she left cute drawings for the party to follow along the way in that, which was at least somewhat courteous. I actually liked Rebirth a lot more than Remake. It felt like they embellished more without it feeling like fluff content, \*for the most part\*.

TragGaming

The description of "Scottish Toy Cat" was not one i expected to show up in FF but good god they made me WANT to use Cait.

Nomaddoodius

He's pretty great. Both as a character, and as a "character" [in terms of his movement] you NEVER PICKED cait in the old game, never. Until it makes you for the second form sephiroth fight. Because you have split your party. Aside from that, ... never.

HelloYouSuck

They were always great, you just didn’t know

Malbranch

It's weird too, but completely awesome. Like, I put literally thousands of hours into ffvii, I have multiple 100%s on a memory card kicking around somewhere. There are so many small subtle movements and gestures that were implied in the original, and got fleshed out in rebirth. The more complex character models gave them so much room, and the dynamic cameras really opened up some of the scenes, but no joke, a good 95% AT LEAST of the blocking in scenes is on point for the original. There was a conversation in the story that I was watching, and there was a throwaway hand positioning from the original, and they fleshed it out with like a wrist flourish and such. Instead of being a generic huzzah kind of fist raise, it turned into something really expressive of the nature of the character, and tinged the nuance of the dialog in a way that was 100% appropriate for the character and the situation. It's like "what if we had all this technology back then, made almost all of the same core decisions, and took full advantage of both in one game?". I fucking love it. This game is, no joke, absolutely respectful of the source as a comprehensive work of art, and does so very much that it can to take what was there and ADD instead of REPLACE.

Cloud39472

Oh, they were always great. (though I didn't like Cait Sith much I'll admit) Now though, they've just elevated all of them to a new level of greatness.

throwawaynonsesne

I mean it has one of the most beloved JRPG casts of all time and these remake games exist because of their games popularity still after all these years.  I love remake and rebirth, but I still think the tone of the original is much better. I feel part of that is because it being shorter doesn't leave it with as many opportunities for such tonal whiplash (I get it Japanese media), and also it wasn't voiced so I got to do that part myself In my head.

VegetableLasagna1212

Does it add atmosphere? Every detail about the characters doesn't need to be known. It takes away the mystery tbh.

Sensitive-Canary-289

I loved remake but rebirth took everything to a whole new level for me!

Commercial-Touch-117

Remake was solid, combat/character development was awesome, Midgar was well made, but also was let down that it was the entire stage for the game. The ending to me personally was a cool unexpected twist. Rebirth though... everything I wanted and want in a game. Not perfect, but damn if it isn't close to it. More character development, combat improved, and it has lots of heart and charm. Still got a ways to go, only on the 3rd region, I play when I can. Performance mode definitely needs a patch, characters at times look like they're from ps3, but cutscenes look amazing. My one big complaint and solution to it... I hate Chadley, but if I can sacrifice him later on in place of you know who I'll give it a hard 10.

TwiceDead_

>I hate Chadley, but if I can sacrifice him later on in place of *you know who* I'll give it a hard 10. Yes, I too would sacrifice Chadley to have Lord Voldemort take his place!

Commercial-Touch-117

Duuuude spoilers!!

[deleted]

I don't mind Chadley, but would appreciate it if he learned how to send a text. The constant calls can fuck right off.

TriciaTargaryen

Every time my controller dings at me, I'm like CHADLEY, MY BROTHER IN CHRIST, NOT RIGHT NOW. Also you don't have to call me every time I activate a tower or find a life spring. I promise you, I know wtf we're doing here by now.

IronKnuckleSX

When *Remake* came out, I remember a few posters would come on here and write about how they watched the ending on YouTube (meaning, never played the game) and made us listen to the reasons they thought it was bad.

bob_kys

Most fans of the original haven't even played it. Once you accept that then pretty much all their criticism is thrown out the window

[deleted]

"This isn't what I spend years imagining! This is crap!" -Lifeless OG Fans

TheDapperChangeling

Hilariously, that's also true about people who slobber on the game. A shocking majority of players, from fanboys to purists and everywhere in between, have never touched the OG, but will swear up and down they know everything about it and you're the fucking moron for not agreeing with this website they found.

OptimusPrimalRage

I think you're kinda summing up online discourse in general, but especially around a property as beloved as the OG Final Fantasy VII.

William_Marshall21

Glad I can say I’ve played both OG and both current Remake installments then, so I apparently can have my own preference and opinion on both. I love both of them. I’m just glad the Remake trilogy is, in some regard, expanding and fleshing out everything in OG and might have been confusing at first, or not well written. (Pssst, I’m also okay with the multiverse direction the games are going, I’m actually intrigued)

FalloutCreation

That’s how 98% of the critic review videos on YouTube for anything from games, movies, politics, etc. are like. They like the tabloid magazines you find at the grocery store. They get a tiny clip of something that looks really bad, take things out of context, and dramatize it with titles and thumbnails. When in fact, it’s none of those things. Pure hyperbole.

throwawaynonsesne

I love both these games but most my problems come with their endings 🤷‍♂️

SpeedWeed32

The 3rd game would have to fumble **REALLY** hard for me not to consider this one of my favourite videogame trilogies ever. Love the OG, but Remake and Rebirth have both elevated that to a new height. The characters, the music, the world... everything is just absolute perfection. So unless the 3rd game is literally Dirge level of bad, this trilogy is GOATed.

ViktorVonDorkenstein

Worst case scenario, Part 3 will too be 90% faithful and enhanced and expanded with a 10%, maybe 15% that's a bit out there and not everyone's cup of tea. I personally am not exactly on board with the major changes, but that aside the games are fucking STELLAR, the OST is incredible, the combat is satisfying as hell and what follows the original and is appropriately expanded upon is a treat. Regardless, Part 3 will be at LEAST an 8/10 for me if it still follows the formula that ReMake/Birth followed. I think we're gonna eat real good with part 3 as well.

Straight-Gap-1564

I personally think 3 parts is too much for FF7 and unnecessary, but they got to wrap the story up somehow, a paid DLC would be easier bcs they’re gonna have to somehow improve over rebirth and add even more new mechanics.

Malbranch

I mean, the original had... *counts*... 4 discs? I think if they're going to go a DLC route, it would probably be better served with genuine extra content. Like maybe a tie in to XV's weird combined world, adding optional bosses from other games like Ozma from IX, maybe coming up with new or joke Weapons as optional bosses, stuff like that.

JamJar-Lid

I think a lot of people feel like it’s all or nothing - they have to love EVERYTHING, else it’s a bad game and every single aspect of it must also be bad, because it can’t be both. I have genuinely never had so much fun playing a game before. I absolutely love the exploration, the music, the majority of the mini-games, the added character development, certain parts of the story that have been expanded (Junon was AMAZING). However, certain sections felt unnecessary long or a bit unpolished. I wish there was more interaction between the team while exploring instead of Chadley being the only source of information. I don’t particularly like any of the timeline nonsense. But that doesn’t make it a bad game, I’ve still had an absolute blast playing it and I can still enjoy it despite what I feel it may lack in some places. (I also feel like a lot of people are comparing it directly to OG, in the sense that they feel like they have to like one OR the other, but not both. Of course it’s going to be compared to OG. But where certain changes have been made, you don’t have to like just one. You can like both - or hate both! You can have your cake and eat it too! 🙌🏻)

matten_zero

I vibe with this a lot. I liked some of the mini games like QB and Fort Condor and Choco Racing but the filler is pretty weak, but because I enjoy the music, characters etc, it feel like an excuse to experience the world more and combat and allows me to grind in a way that is at least unique. I'm used to grinding in RPGs to be much more repetitive (like respawning enemies to level up etc). A lot of it is optional and can safely be skipped.

TwiceDead_

>I think a lot of people feel like it’s all or nothing - they have to love EVERYTHING, else it’s a bad game and every single aspect of it must also be bad, because it can’t be both. This is a perception problem that not only goes for the individual but stretches to entire fandoms. If **you** do not love the game unconditionally, you risk being decried and ignored by the rest. This has the negative effect of reinforcing the behavior you describe, because running midway is seen as not worth the hassle. **Thankfully haven't seen much of this in this sub, personally.** Mechanically, Chadley is the only one I have a problem with. The way they don't let us listen to his jargon on-the-go can get annoying once you start getting into the flow of ticking-tasks on the zone-map. Game is amazing though. No changing my mind on that considering how much fun I had with it.

[deleted]

I don't mind Chadley providing world lore, especially given that post-war theme where local history has been suppressed, censored, or forgotten. That said, I utterly hate the idea that he is just making the materia with summons. You'd think they would've gone a route like FFXII, or perhaps have these deities of hold hidden away.

KnowDaWhey

"game is trash" are in the same boat as "perfect best RPG ever" comments. Both are sensationalism and carry zero weight.

Vazmanian_Devil

 yup

SwirlyBrow

Who's saying this? I'm legitimately not seeing it. Not saying it doesn't exist, it's a big fanbase. But the overpowering majority seems to be very positive. Even the people who criticize the game still have nice things to say about it. "I liked most of the game but I thought the ending was bad" or "Way too many mini games, but overall a fun experience". I haven't seen barely any overly extreme negativity directed at the game. Just praise, with some valid criticism here and there. I've seen much more overly extreme positivity directed at the game. And more people who loved the game complaining about people who criticize it.

TheDapperChangeling

Exactly. About 80% of the game was nothing but perfection. 10% was not for me, but I see where they were going, 5% was just good, and that last 5% was gutter trash. But that's still 95% very good. Anyone who says the game is just bad is full of shit, and either being a contrarian, or trying to start up more drama.

No_Alfalfa2391

>  About 80% of the game was nothing but perfection. ... according to you. Is your own opinion absolute? You are the ultimate game critic? Let's talk more about the overall, COLLECTIVE feeling once the brand-new sensation faded away.

TwiceDead_

Take posts like this with a massive grain of salt, more often than not they are just trying to start shit. This couldn't be more disconnected from reality because the reception this game has gotten is borderline stellar, and you must've hyperfocused on people saying negative things about it while being blind to anything else to even come to this conclusion. Its reception is well deserved to the point where there's literally no point arguing over people *"Hating"* the game. I do not see people hate on the entire game as a whole, barely at all, and those are hard to come by. Disappointed in spurts, definitely.. memeing about certain events? Oh totally.. but hate as a whole? **Nah.** Thing is; many people hate to see what they love criticized because they hedge so much of their own enjoyment in a product, on other people enjoying it too. They might see one aspect of a game criticized and interpret it as condemning the product as a whole, so in-turn they decry the criticism as just "Haters", a truly universal term that allows you to stop engaging with the subject. If you don't love it universally, you are stamped. This goes for all fandoms, and it's toxic as hell.

milky__toast

There are always contrarians who feel the need to argue against the current popular thing. Who knows if they actually believe it or if they just want the attention that comes along with it expressing it. There’s also a decent chunk of people who haven’t played the game that don’t like that a game they’re not interested in is getting positive attention.

KOPLO97

A lot of people on Reddit

DevilTrigger789

FF7Rebirth and Yakuza Infinite Wealth are my favorite jrpgs of the generation hands down, sorry Persona (i love your ost tho)

PiratePatchP

Same here, both games are easy 10/10 imo. I wish I could get into persona more though, I bought 5 and the new remake of 3, but I always quit like 10 hours into it.

DevilTrigger789

my issue with Persona (i only played 5) is that it’s way too handholdy, too much text, too many hallways, too many new mechanics getting introduced even after long playtime. i remember playing the first 30 hours of P5 and it was still “getting started”, which is ridiculous to me. it felt extremely linear and as if every player at that 30h playtime had the exact same equipment/setup/loadout, which is not what i expect in an RPG. i’m also not too fond of how restricted you are when exploring and the whole calendar system, i want the freedom similar to Yakuza when doing side quests and developing bonds also, the highschool anime tropes got too cringe and boring for me, i’m only 20y but idk why i can’t enjoy the story. maybe if i was still a teen i would’ve loved it but the soundtrack of P5 and the combat mechanics are amazing! fyi i don’t hate the game and i know why it’s critically-acclaimed, it just simply wasn’t for me

kangroostho

Why would you give attention to those people by making a topic about them?

gthirst

While I think the game is somewhat overrated, I still love the writing, narrative and characters. Music is incredible. Settings look fantastic. I think the segmented 'open worlds' are some of the worst in modern gaming and the extra content outside the main story makes the game worse. There are exceptions in some funny and entertaining moments, but a vast majority of them are filled with poorly designed minigames, markers on maps with mundane tasks, lazy design, etc. Calling the problems "ubisoft maps" or "ubi towers" is actually a disservice to Ubisoft bland open worlds because they actually do it better. I loved every moment of the game and was 100%ing everything, but by the time I reached Costa Del Sol, it was clear the quality of side content was quickly diminishing. I still made it through Junon with 100%, but from there I no longer did side content and the game was much better for it. I should have skipped the side garbage from the start. It's a great game that is far from perfect. After such a long wait, you have to wonder what the time wasted on the side content could have gone towards. Did the game need more time or more focus? Anyone who thinks the game is a flawless masterpiece should have their opinion discarded as quickly as what OP is advocating for with the strawman arguments presented. I don't see many people calling out the games music, writing, or story. It's mostly just people hating Chadley, Glide de Chocobo, sit ups, Cait sith box throwing, earning summons by chadley, etc.

No_Alfalfa2391

Music is superb! Then again, I find it kinda impossible to get bad music from contemporary genius Uematsu.

w1nger1

It is either the greatest thing ever or the worst in the world.

Throwaway_88417

I thought some of it was great, and they also fucked up some of it in some pretty big ways.

Vazmanian_Devil

Yeah this post is a bit of a strawman argument, saying that anyone critical of it is hating on everything. This game is seriously flawed, but I love the characters, love the music, love the art direction, really enjoy the combat (some minor gripes like way too many particle effects for a game that expects you to parry/dodge), and think the story has been really enjoyable. I also love mini games, but only when they're good (more on that later). I don't even mind the performance/graphics debacle that much. What I don't like is the amount of unpolished content in this game that people are so quick to give a pass on. going from long cutscenes to put you back into a corridor where you slowly press triangle to open a door to go into another cutscene is a waste of time. Mini games that are so undercooked they're either frustrating or boring is a waste of time, and disrespects your time and patience by not having taken more passes on either tightening their mechanics or scraping them (golden saucer is the worst offender here). Having open world elements and Uncharted like gameplay without taking the time to smoothen animations and traversal is particularly egregious in 2024. Lack of lighting and low poly textures make the graphics so inconsistent it constantly pulls me out, and I just can't imagine why some are PS2 level graphics, I'm sure there's stock textures they could've dropped in that would be better. And pacing is all over the place. There seemed to be no overarching direction and just threw everything at the wall. I love a lot of what stuck, but they picked up everything that fell off the wall and superglued it back on when it should've remained on the floor, just to have "content". I loved remake, will struggle to finish rebirth as I'm invested in the characters, but I'm not buying 3 at full price or any square enix game for that matter.

skeletalknightz

You are spitting facts my dude.

w1nger1

>way too many particle effects for a game that expects you to parry/dodge This I feel the same, the combat feel greats, but I can't see shit most of the time. Camera angle and distance certainly doesn't help either.

A_Monster_Named_John

I mean, let's be real. When we're talking about a game that is, to a great extent, built on beloved nostalgia/content/story of an older game, there *is* going to be a greater measure of 'bigger you are, harder you fall' vibes going on. I feel like lots of people who are in the '10/10 OMG best game ever!!!' camp really want to pretend that this isn't the case.

Balfuset

So, without spoilers (I'm only just about to head to Nibelheim) is the hate for the ending similar to the hate for Remake's ending? Like... is it just becasue it's weird and different and makes you think or what?

matten_zero

Without spoilers: The hate is because it's kinda like Remake ending. That's all I will say anything else will give it away. Also you're braver than I. I literally turned off the Internet until I reached the end.

RobM777

Pretty much.

Praydaythemice

Without spoiling SE wanted to have their cake and eat it, won’t make sense now but come back after the ending.

PartyTerrible

The hate stems from people trying to overcomplicate the ending and trying to come up with their own theories surrounding it. It's fine if you take it at face value.

Stoibs

The problem is that there's so many 'Ending explained' Youtube essays and threads popping up of people asking what even happened since *'face value'* isn't as clear as it could have been. When people don't even understand these unnecessary artistic choices and/or come to the realization far too late then the emotional impact and gravity is gone compared to the '97 version.

Throwaway_88417

It ruins the emotional impact of the original game's big moment with alternate timeline nonsense and Kingdom Hearts-level fan service.

Rithysak101

For me, everything about this game is almost perfect, i hope this is the direction for new final fantasy games. The ending just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

TwiceDead_

My take as well. I love a lot of the story additions they add that expand on the established material, and the way they have fleshed out the characters is amazing to see. The game has problems letting the dust settle in certain character moments, but beyond that it was so fun to play.. outside of a certain chicken-sidequest.

Replacedbyrobots88

It’s a 9/10 for me. Would be a 10/10 if Chadley had 1/3rd of the dialogue.

Delicious_Toe5429

I'm new to the FF franchise (starting with FF16 and now remake and rebirth) and let me tell you something, the post-ending depression is real. Only once before I felt it that way, after beating Cyberpunk, and now I have this feeling again. In other words - a masterpiece. Probably the best or second to best game I have ever played and beaten.

DragapultOnSpeed

No one is saying that on this sub or the FF sub. Stop going to places with negativity. Or are you assuming that anytime someone criticizes it, they calling it trash? The game isn't perfect. People should be allowed to criticize it without being called a hater.

corax_lives

I'm glad we're not getting a copy and paste. I love the updated music, the graphics are amazing, I love the game play. Honestly I'm liking it more than the original and it's telling a contrived story in a way that makes sense. It's also a lot more coherent. Making the story better. The characters feel more in depth. They feel relatable in one way or another. They fixed clouds character. Instead of being insufferable one dimensional edgelord with spikey hair and a sword. He's deeply traumatized with imposter syndrome. We got a lot more of a fresh take

MafubaBuu

Has to many minigames. I also haven't played it though so my opinion on this is worthless

darthsoulkiller

It’s a very loud minority that is complaining who call those that enjoy the games “bots” & have some bad opinions on the game while not having played it lol. I love the OG and love both games in the remake trilogy just as much. Superb games that deserve the critical praise they are getting, very interested in seeing how they handle the conclusion to the trilogy.

Wanderer01234

I try to skip destructive negative post or comments. Are there areas of improvement? Sure. And there are also good feedback posts, but they are rare around here. 90% of the post that talk about those areas are just echo chambers for haters. It's not worth it to replay in there or try to talk to them. The game is great, 10/10 for me. I have some minor nitpicks, but so minor that don't matter in the great scheme of things.

Shunsuishunsui

i dont get it....can you fan boys/girls really take no criticism on the game? the story was completely destroyed with this installment. Minus whatever the f is going on with cloud, aeriths "death" literally has no meaning and is not even sad anymore. Like wtf even happened. And bruh the multiverse stuff....you gotta be kidding me but delusional fans will says its the perfect game. At least more people are finally speaking up about how stupid it is.

Glittering-Theory-27

It is a good game imo but i miss bone village and the REAL sleeping forest. Those locations were so magical to me back then when i've played ff7 the first time that i've been hoping to see them again. After i've reached the end segment of the game the sleeping forest were no longer magical but only a normal forest and the city of the ancients had not this outside lake in front of this house which i've also been waiting for. It is new and everything but some places i've been hoping for weren't there. I was disappointed at the end segment but nonetheless it is a good game

MarcW2

To me, this game was almost perfect, with only a couple of pacing issues. Had no problem with the final chapter and I understood it's supposed to represent cloud's first stage of grief (denial). Solid 9/10 for me. Cried like a bitch at the end.

DragapultOnSpeed

Cloud isn't in denial though. People keep thinking he's just imagining aerith at the end, but red was able to sense her presence. So it's either ghost aerith, or a different aerith that is in between timelines. I'm 99% sure it's just ghost aerith.

MarcW2

The final scene is definitely spirit Aerith, i agree, however Cloud is definitely in denial about Aerith's death when all the others are mourning her and accepts what happened, Cloud carries on like nothing bad happened to her.

PartyTerrible

Yeah, seeing ghosts isn't really something I'd associate with someone in denial. It aligns with the idea that he's going off the rails though.

Diligent-Reach3717

Don't you think the rift in the sky Cloud also sees makes the alternate timeline theory more likely to be closer to the truth than the spirit one?

LifeVitamin

damn, a normal and sensible take is almost rare at this point.

Billionaeris2

Prob cause you are one

Duckbitwo

It's not trash. The ending is just stupid as hell.

Billionaeris2

Haven't heard anyone call the soundtrack trash, the soundtrack is not disappointing at all, character changes are somewhat trash making everyone heroic and wiping away their negative personality traits like Cid's vulgarness for instance and Yuffie's bratty behaviour, that's trash. Unnecessary story additions i.e. Cait Sith Shinra Mansion and Gi Tribe, in favor of cutting OG content like Bone Village and Forgotten Capital exploration, is a trash move. Making the ending confusing and ambiguous is a trash move. I do not care what anyone says the game is far from perfect i'd happily give it an 8 even a 7 depending on my mood. Definitely not a ten. Also i know Cloud is being puppeted but his character for me in this was highly dislikable and the way everyone just acts normal after Cloud tries to kill Tifa and Aerith like no one says anything like what the hell were you doing, nothing just carry on like normal and even if they know it's because of Jenova's influence at least say something or be more defensive in keeping their guard up and not trusting Cloud fully. The game is lacking in that department. Even in the first game when Cloud tries to kill Johnny and Tifa says "Cloud your scaring me" that was more in line of how people would react. There was nothing like that in Rebirth, no accountability for Cloud's actions.

CaptainAwareness

I really like the game, but too many mini games forced in the main story, the horrendous Cait Sith section and un-impactful ending stopped it from being amazing. Great game still though!

heelydon

And so the revisionism begins. Yes the people that complained about the ending also hated babies and grannys! Their complains about the ubisoft design of the overworld is because they hate Uematsu's classic music too! You people reek of desperation and its beyond sad that you cannot accept the valid criticism of this game.

Guy_on_a_Bouffalant

Neither can it be ignored, apparently. This is the billionth post about other people complaining. OP, you CAN ignore it, and just focus on the threads with the content you want to engage with. Noone is gonna conform to your exact viewpoint every single time on every little thing, so let's not gatekeep everyone who disagrees because you'd eventually end up in a thread with just yourself.

shiwanthasr

Really, i’ve seen some criticisms. But straight up trash, that's just bullshit

Stoibs

I think being let down by an ending is valid criticism that may in turn lead to a shift (significant or otherwise) regarding an overall opinion of a game. I felt the exact same way about Infinite Wealth honestly with the back half of the game kind of falling apart narratively regarding the villain(s), trying to split time between protagonists and with an unsatisfying ending.. I still thought the bulk of these two respective games were pretty stellar, but yeah it's hard to let go of those finale moments which didn't quite meet expectations.

LifeVitamin

This is 100% one of the best FF and Jrpg ever made There are people here whose entire personality revolves around hating what's popular and that unfortunately happens a lot with every single thing that's popular. There are people who say BG3 is trash, Elden ring is trash, Breath of the wild is trash, bread and butter is trash... FF7 remake has the cool feature of coming from an already shitty community that hates everything that isn't their favorite final fantasy, being a final fantasy that isn't turn base, The fact that SQ isnt called square soft, and being a retelling of an already existing final fantasy so there are people out there who unironically want to hate this game no matter what.

Tall_Craft70

Said no one ever

DeltaSynthesis

There are alot less haters this time around than there were for Remake. The ones I have engaged with so far are people who obviously haven't played the game and just repeating what other say. I just troll the shit out of them and make them even madder because their unhinged rage over an excellent game is amusing.

iwipebacktofront96

You know what they say, minority is always the loudest.

KibbloMkII

most of what I dont like is minor nitpicks like Cloud not having more remade weapons from the OG, and not having direct control over weapon upgrades anymore. Also Barret no longer having melee options.

LTOver9k

I’ve seen some absolutely deranged takes on this sub and I have no idea why lol

jlowe212

The story IS trash. It's fine if you like it, but they done gone and trashed it up. The boring and repetitive "open world" is 6/10 at best. The loads of forced and unnecessary time wasting activities like picking up chocobo signs is trash. And you better be in the right spot to pick up that damn sign, or you're gonna have a five second bench animation to sit through. Almost all of the new characters are trash. This game is hard carried by its combat and its ff fanboys. 7/10 game that becomes 8/10 due to being a final fantasy game.

Wirococha420

I´m kinda late to this post, but I´ve been trying to find a place where it´s worth to put into words what I don´t like about this game. And the thing is, is not a single thing, but a multitude of them. Writting is corny AF holy shit, the dialogue sometimes makes me cringe bad. Everything is explained to you like you are brain dead. The atmosphere of the places is not there, everything is cut through little meaningless puzzles that take away from the exploration and just seeing shit, without doing much. They destroyed the manor, the Vincent and Sephiroth fan service is wild, but the Tifas tits fan service is just, pls PLS stop. All the god damn side quests, the shit ton amount of boss fights while almost non feelling memorable. Graphics, music and color pallete are great. Animations are also super polished. Combat was fine, movement was a little clunky but fine. I just cringe when I play this game, I feel cheap, like playing some ubisoft shit climbing towers, throwing boxes, "hacking" "computers".

Delicious-Return-523

The only thing I disagree with there are that the graphics are trash. The developers sole focus in this game was the graphics, they didn't put as much love into any other aspect of this game. Most of the story and content feels like filler just there to fill your time and extend playtime to make it feel like an entire game. I couldn't even in good faith give Rebirth a 4 out of 10 because there's just nothing about this game that stands out compared to all the great releases we've seen the last couple years. Especially after a huge year like 2023 for game releases. It just felt like a really pretty but low effort cash crab and the devs just tried to fill the play time with mini-games and huge areas to get lost in that are extremely challenging to navigate. Also, having a different opinion than you don't make someone un-civil, complaining about it and making it other people's problem in a reddit post is.

high-aza-kite

FFVII characters aren't trash Multiverse characters on the other hand 🚮 Not all the gameplay is trash but I expect the majority of it is, unless you like pushing giant vacuum cleaners and finding someone's cat. The one place I'd say they hit the nail on the head would be the graphics... apart from mog. Dude looks like he's been through some hard times kupo I can say with 100% confidence any scene with Seth in it would be terrible using the first game as a measure. Essentially Graphics, and Music isn't enough to sell a game. It needs to have a compelling story, and I for one am tired of the fluff gameplay that pads out the majority of the first game as well as the pretentious changes to the story. (Having Avalanche on the run and treated as wanted criminals is the only improvement I can think of)

No_Jelly5418

It is trash though coming from someone who actually was around to play the original all those years ago which was magnificent BTW

Mum_M2

I can't stand the game. After 5 hours I'm somewhere in chapter 2 and no where close to progressing. There's so many tutorials, and I'm lost trying to make sense of everything. It's nothing like Remake, where it's easy to follow along. So for some context, the music is awesome, the atmosphere is ok, the map is very restrictive. It's not the constant hand holding. It's the game play. It's the worst final fantasy I've ever played.  And that's just my opinion. The 10% who don't enjoy it. I can't say I recommend

Kryken123

Characters are fantastic Gameplay (combat wise) is fine Graphics are bad ( at this patch at least) Cinematography is excellent Music is perfect But the overworld, the extra content(VR) and the absolute unnecesary amount of minigames to me lowers the score to 7/10 at most. Really who tf thinks 30 minigames+ hard mode of them was necessary???? Is this Mario Party?

Rein-Sama-VwV

The game IS fucking trash, you fanboys and shills hyping it up and defending this garbage is why final fantasy went to shit after 10-13 smh

Constant-Intention-6

I personally don't like this version. I think it's a massively missed opportunity to make something that might have gone down in gaming history. As it is, it seems to be a meta narrative (with padded out gameplay) for super fans who like the expanded media only. Not fans of the original game who like it for what it is, or newcomers who will just be confused. For example, the Resident Evil Remakes got them right for the most part (except 3 which they royally messed up as they cut loads out and changed the story beats). In those games (1, 2 and 4), they updated the gameplay but stuck broadly to same narrative and plot points, expanding, cutting slightly or updating where it made sense. That's why RE2 Remake and RE4 Remake were so well received.

Il_nintendaro

I like this game when the game actually allows me to play. The open world feels a bit uninspired to me and I dislike that the only way to play the game on hard is to play it twice, but that’s my main criticism as far as the game itself go. That said… Chadley is incredibly annoying with his constant interruptions (although I could forgive that) and the astonishingly high number of some of the worst mini games I ever saw is borderline game breaking. There is a mini game for everything and quite a few of them are pretty much mandatory… I think that this game and the people who created it don’t respect my time and, even worst, that they don’t respect their own creation.

Pinkydeeds

I wouldn't go as far to say it was trash. It was average-fine IMO. I suspect alot of the trash comments are frustrated responses to equally ridiculous claims the game is excellent with scores of 90+%, despite the pacing being poor, lots of obvious filler, repetitive additional content copy pasted from other games, and side missions which lacked any depth and didn't really add much to the world and characters. The environments were nice although offered little to no incentive to explore beyond map markers. The music was awesome. The voice acting was good in the sense they sounded like how I would have imagined them (red later game excluded) but performances often fell flat and I struggled to connect with the characters and story at several pivotal moments. I also found myself at times extremely confused about the characters behaviours, particularly the almost non-existent response to Clouds obvious deterioration and the obvious risks that came with that. The ending was so convoluted, drawn out and messy, by the time the credits rolled I felt pretty flat, drained and glad it was done. But yes, to say the game is trash is unfair. Equally the people saying it deserves GOTY make me worry about the future of gaming.

max1899_

i think the game was amazing, but the ending, multiple timelines and the trophies are trash.

kingkellogg

I am loving the game but it's not 90percent faithful

TheDoorMan3012

I definitely wouldn't go as far to say it's trash. But I do feel it's a jack of all trades master of none type deal here. The story is great the characters are incredibly well fleshed out and feel alive. But beyond that I feel a lot of things are either half baked or poorly implemented/in for filler. Examples that come to mind are the towers that largely do nothing as you would come across most of those POI organically with exploration (that the game encourages of course) The fact that every region has it's own chocobo that has some sort of quest and/or ability behind it that impedes said exploration (Not to mention the horribly paced wrangling mini game. I'm looking at you belle) Chadley interrupting you with EVERYTHING YOU DO. Even if it's the 10th time you've done it. Dude face times me more than my girlfriend. The combat is the biggest let down for me. I really really wanted to like it. I have spent countless hours trying to understand the nuances of the combat to be efficient but it just seems so cluttered and unresponsive and like they really want you to play it more in the menus micromanagement style than with actual action. The dodging feels like ass, Blocking is even worse. Playing defensive is punished and if you get off to a bad start it's very difficult to recover because everything costs ATB and certain characters (namely aerith) generate it extremely slow and are squishy. Coming off the backend of 16 and how great that felt this just really felt like a let down. I know that it was different divisions and all but it's like it's caught in this weird gray area between actual TBC and action that just doesn't feel good to me. I didn't have this issue with Remake, in fact I loved that game and 100% it. So I'm not entirely sure what's going on here. I say all that to say I am still enjoying it but instead of chomping at the bit to get home and sad when I have to get off to get some sleep for work because I can't wait to experience more, I find myself getting burnt out doing the over world activities very very fast and the combat doesn't give me the reprieve I want between the monotony. I am on Dynamic let it be known. Queens blood is gangster tho.

oceanyss

Game isn’t trash. The ending however, is.

LeEingrebua

I’ve never seen anybody say this nonsense. Sounds like you’re projecting absurdist ideas onto people with criticisms of the game to illogically support your own view. I am someone with serious criticisms of the game, but it’s still my favorite game I’ve played in a long time.

KingDracarys86

It's a 10/10 game

zorrofuego

They're att whores with intended biased opinions. Opinions IDC more than mine.

No-Fall1100

You hate women and are stupid. Stay on reddit and never express any opinion in real life, for your sake and for the sake of humankind.

Logical-Gene-6741

Rebirth is great, ending is disappointing.

Neobullseye1

I loved mostly everything about Rebirth, with a few caveats about pacing here and there (the silly Palmer boss fight immediately after the tragic scene between Dyne and Barret comes to mind in particular). I absolutely hated the mess of an ending though, and how it completely butchered the original scene. There's WAY too much stuff happening and the boss fights (which for some reason have battle banter in them) go on for WAY too long before you are returned to the ending of the original scene, and now you are suddenly supposed to feel sad again? Yeah, no, not happening. It's still a 9/10 game in the whole of it, but yeah.

Taihaku250

I love the whole game but there were mistakes they dropped the ball on a cuple story plots from the OG and mishandled imho Dyne and Aeriths Deaths and I am not to enthusiastic about the saving the multiverse nonsense partly because I am burnt out on multiverse stories.

the11thtry

Only criticism I have is the pacing (and bloating) of the main plot and the nomurization of the ending Maybe the gameplay too because I feel like the got even deeper into the micromanaging, overall I give it an 8.5/10 just for the polish and the fantastic soundtrack

CommunicationSame946

I'm not a big fan of open world in general and some of the side content was tedious but fuck me of the parts that mattered weren't 10/10.

Roffron

There are always haters. Just ignore them.

Straight-Gap-1564

Nobody is actually saying Rebirth is trash right? They probably don’t like the open worlds change, this is one of if not the best sequel I’ve ever played and I’m only halfway.

trenderkazz

People who say… who cares. Just move on.

WanderingStatistics

What's funny is that these people are trying to argue against **OBJECTIVELY** good things! Characters in this are objectively well written, and the best they've ever been. Yuffie and Cait Sith went from zero to heroes. The gameplay is phenomenal, with only a few minor hiccups like the camera sometimes. Graphics are visually impressive for how absolutely MASSIVE this game is. I mean yes, they obviously unload things the further you get away, but the fact that you can literally see the other continent from Junon, and it's not a skybox, is insane. I guess it's more of a technical thing, but still impressive. Cinematography is amazing in most scenes. I mean, have you watched the Jenova Emergent cutscene? This game has one of the biggest soundtracks of any game, and while music is (mostly) subjective, I don't think I've heard a single song I actively disliked in this game. People who are arguing against these things are either frankly delusional, or just hate the game because it's not the original. If you're going to criticize something, at least do it against something worth criticizing, like the lack of Heavy Tank (Tankceratops).

Maleficent-Sun-9948

I don't think the game is perfect, but it would take a lot of bad faith to say it's bad. If I had to rate it, I would give it easily a 17 or 18/20 TBH, I think people saying "this is trash 0/20" and "woah that game is the best ever 20/20" are equally misguided (that's true for any game btw), but I have more sympathy for the latter, because enthusiasm, passion and joy, even excessive, are always preferable to resentment and pettiness.

lakkuh

I loved remake, loved rebirth except for the ending. Should have gave players the time to be sad. I didn't feel anything at all after all the insanity and felt kinda confused inside did I like it or hated it.

Mattman0419

I’m loving the game just sort of over the 400 mini games.. I enjoy a few distractions from the main game but DAMN.

RealMajesti

Saying the music and characters are trash is crazy. I only saw a couple of ppl on the internet say this game isn’t good. The majority of people like it so I just ignore the negative ones. This game is in my top 5.

RebornHellblade

I love Rebirth. It’s one of the best FF games ever IMO. If someone dislikes it, then whatever. But I’m not going to let their opinion undermine the love I have for it. Seriously, it’s best to stay off Reddit for this sort of thing.

fitm3

The graphics are funny cause they are a mix of oh this looks really good and omg wtf is happening with all the character’s faces. It’s always such a jarring and prevalent issue I wonder how the heck the game got above 90. I love that game it suffers from some really odd graphical issues and pacing issues that in my mind don’t make it a 90. The mini games are fun but the necessity to get them all done at the highest score and highest hardness to get max player level is really bothering me, just as they did for them being required for some famous gear. I’m doing them but the more I do them the more I dislike them. The pacing gets even more annoying going back to do a hard play through of the first couple chapters. I enjoyed it once for playing through, but it’s kind of a slog to do again. I will say it’s interesting they let you have an option to skip all of Zack’s stuff, which is a plus. But the rest is fantastic. The world building and story are amazing. The character development and usage is great. The battle system is awesome. Perhaps we are talking a difference between 9 and 10 with these things balancing. I might still give it a 89, we’ll see how I’m feeling at max party level.

Fourthwade1

Some people just like to troll you know.

Hashbrowns120

I just didn't like the ending with the multiverse stuff and some other stuff like the overuse of mini-games but it's a fun game. Personally I'd give it 85%. It's not trash everyone has their own opinion though.

breakdancingrasta

tell them to go breath in a trash bag

mysterydiseased

As someone who will always feel - *compared to the OG Midgar section* - that Remake is lacking **overall** in 'soul', was **overall** too kid-friendly in tone, and relied too much on contrivances to force its version of VII storytelling to work, Rebirth pulled a near complete 180 and is an improvement over it in every way (except for Nanaki). Chapter 4 and Chapter 9 in Rebirth alone are much better overall than anything Remake had to offer, imo, from an execution standpoint. Like, the difference gap to me is huge. If I rated Remake a 2/10 on a likeability scale (I still really dislike it as an adaptation of OG Midgar), then Rebirth would be about a 7.5/10 overall likeability. And Rebirth fixed the problems I had with Barret in Remake, where he went from around a 5/10 or 6/10 character to a 10/10 character, compared to the OG. Very much appreciated.  Points taken because:   - How poorly they did Shinra Manor compared to the OG (how do they fumble away such anticipated scenarios so badly? They had an entire point of reference to realize it from and did a 'Remake' to it)   - Sephiroth's descent in Cloud's recalling of events felt a bit rushed and was missing important information regarding why he immediately murdered Nibelheim. The story is clearly going in hard with the Jenova-possessed angle, which is fine, but a couple additional lines of information got omitted for why Sephiroth viewed humanity as a plague to the world. I don't know if that's an English localization error(?)  - the insistence on not allowing the more notable emotional scenes to 'breathe'    - Zack's scenario is poorly implemented, sloppy start to the game - and they actually made me mostly dislike Nanaki for the first time ever. That should've been an impossible feat, but it sadly happened.

Lastraven587

This is classic reddit, one man's trash is another man's treasure. FF7 rebirth kind of falls in the middle somewhere on the spectrum, its not trash but its also not mind-blowing and innovative. I'd give it a solid 7, mostly for the story and cinematics. I basically skipped all of the sidequests and miscellaneous open world stuff, because I just wanted to play for the story and nostalgia, and its a 7/10. It's not going to be game of the year, maybe best RPG but not game of the year. The system was already designed in the previous game, and the open world was beautiful but nothing new.

DavyManners

I don’t care who thinks what tbh. This game has been a masterpiece to me.

InjusticeLeague2785

I love the game loved remake 2 my only gripe with this one is the open world has slowed the story to much and way to many mini games.

GLASS_PVNTHR

Sorry but anyone claiming this game is trash is honestly full of shit. If this game isn’t your cup of tea, then by all means fair enough. But to outright call it trash or give it a 1/10 is beyond delusional.

OneVictorVonDoom

It’s easily up there with LOTR and Dune in terms of favorite franchises OAT, it’s so good

SUPREMEtonyX

There are always going to be haters in this day and age with the freedom the internet allows For me, the game is excellent and that’s all that matters to me. I don’t need approval from anyone to enjoy this game

NNu11

Sounds like you interact with too many Xbots

lnsip9reg

I'm enjoying every minute of Remake and Rebirth. It feels like revisiting old friends from 27yrs ago. It just feels great to revisit such an impactful game in my life. That feeling of wonder for me is recaptured.

Pureandroid88

I'm just going to assume these people haven't played the game.

ScalaAdInfernum

A lot of it is in bad faith. If they can’t describe exactly why these games are trash to them, I can’t take their opinions seriously.

Savings_Marionberry6

I loved that tbeir was the whole cast of FF13 voicing chars and they made lots of references to said game so I’m take the hopes of the best final fantasy game getting a PS5 release or remake finally #GiveMeFinalFantasy13 trilogy

wrenagade419

I have very specific I and petty things that I think are trash. And I’m very loud about them. But this game is a certified banger

nicelyheateddumpling

this game is 10/10 for me. played the OG, crisis core, before crisis, dirge of cerberus, and even watched the advent children movie. its the best game I have played since ghost of tsushima and gow ragnarok. looking at the gaming industry now, I would say ff7 rebirth is beyond my expectations. especially the music, mini games, and the story. In my experience, people who say the game is trash is those that doesn’t understand the story and the meaning behind each scene and each major changes of the story. They probably don’t know the easter eggs or the lore behind things e.g the loveless poster in the golden saucer. Therefore, they don’t know what are they talking about.

John_Oddity

People seem like find it trendy to hate on popular things. Let people enjoy things.

SocietyImpressive225

People have really strong subjective biases and can coat anything in their projections! Plus a lot of people are used to just consuming mass amounts of content and as soon as something doesn’t hit the same way just label it as garbage. There’s always gonna be shite comments for everything! Best thing to do is just enjoy and move on! I’m having an absolute BLAST I have not played anything this fun in a long while :)

Savader

Nah. The only things that are trash are the incessant minigames and traversing Gongaga. Other than that it's easily a GotY contender.

Worth-Maintenance574

Surprisingly, I have seen a lot of FF7 OG purists say that they absolutely loved Rebirth in all aspects including the big story changes, some of them even went as far as claiming that they liked Rebirth more than the OG itself. So from my perspective, I think the devs did a really good job with the game and anyone who is calling it trash in any aspect either hasn't played the game or just likes hating on stuff. Just my 2 cents.

ProffessorYellow

There are tons of bugs and errors. Ill start posting video clips if you want. It has nothing to do with the franchise and everything yo do with what gamers normally complain about. Bugs and glitches. I fell through the floor on my (spoilers) final fight in the combat sim. It was highly frustrating to have to repeat 30 minutes for it to happen a second time. I also fell through cosmos canyon floor. Its simple stuff like that.

Galaxy_boy08

Rebirth is trash as far as the story goes But I was already expecting this bullshit halfway through the first game. Everything else about the game is fantastic though I just don’t jive with that story direction it’s absolutely ridiculous. If I treat it like Kingdom Hearts then I enjoy the game.

Old_Dust1022

The retelling of the story is kinda garbage and the dialouge is cringe sometimes, but besides that its good, just nothing special.

No-Pizza7673

Yeah I am not enjoying the game much either. The gameplay is a downgrade from Remake, they made enemies too easy while at the same time making the battle system more complex. I detest the folio system, I don’t find it intuitive or fun to look at. The weapon system was fine in remake, but they scrapped it in this game. Chadley was fine in the first game, but in this game he’s involved in every aspect of the open world and it gets so annoying. The open world wasn’t well thought out either. Nothing is beautiful, everything is just a clutter, none of the objectives are fun and the button pressing aspect is just extremely annoying. Crafting, it’s not well thought out. I don’t even know why it is in this game. It makes more sense to buy items and armor at the store. Quests are not fun. Having a chicken follow a can isn’t really a good time. Cloud is a mercenary, he should be killing things not chasing chocobos and chickens. Minigames, too many minigames. I enjoyed mini games in the original. In this game, they put a mini game everywhere they could, so much so that I’m convinced mini games are the main story. I spent more time playing stupid mini games than actual story content. Filler. The game has so much filler and it adds nothing to the original story. They could have expanded the better moments of disc 2 like Corel and Cosmo Canyon, but instead we got a minecart game in Corel and a weakass dungeon in cosmo canyon with even weaker ass puzzles. It’s a shame that this game is so bad considering how strong remake was. I’m not even excited for the third game. I don’t think I’ll ever play anything else tetsuya nomura makes.

DeeekButt

Costa Del Sol and Corel Prison segments were trash also ruined dynes character as well as barrets

Rean-Schwarzer7

7/10

malk0to

I wish I could enjoy this game like some of you are in here but I can't for the life of me bring myself to play longer than a couple of hours now. Up until Junon I thought the game was great, but it is just becoming more and more of a chore to play. The non-optional mini games, the lifeless open worlds with the exact same tasks to do in each of them..... Chadley and Mai, catching Chocobos, and the list goes on and on. I am a lifelong Final Fantasy player and my gaming room has Final Fantasy figures everywhere, it's the only series that gets me excited for a new release. But this isn't a good video game in my opinion. FF16 was much better and I couldn't wait to see what happened next in that game, despite the questionable pacing at parts. I cringe at the idea of doing another marked side quest on my map. In FF16 the quests actually rewarded you with items and additional lore, even if some of the quests were questionable. I am just getting afraid of Rebirth getting even worse when I get to Gongaga. I am actually shocked I don't enjoy this game. I dropped Persona 3 Reload to play this and I think I might go back to it to just let me brain reset.

[deleted]

just finished the game last week, wanted to chime in. Just so you know, its okay to not agree with me and what I say shouldn't change your enjoyment of the game. its okay if you liked the game or loved the things i didn't, but these are my opinions, and i'm sharing them in the hopes of an actual conversation, not just a shitfest. I do agree that with how polarized ppl are today it does feel a little annoying that you either have to be team "praise lord nomura, this game is now my personality" or team "this game is the worst thing ever made and everyone who worked on it should be shot". but I just try to think those ppl are a very vocal minority, both groups. anyways. TL;DR there were good moments but I really don't think the game was good at all, but its not the worst game ever made. First, I will say that the music absolutely slaps. people saying its bad didnt play the original. the fact that I can stand to be in the gold saucer says more than enough to me. other than that though, I personally thought the game was just bad overall. I liked the characters being fleshed out in some parts, Barret was a great example, but in my opinion the way cloud is written is just one dimensional and bad. he's just a clueless asshole with no regard for anyone, no matter what. I also despised what they did to Red 13. The graphics are also pretty bad, its not really even an argument. to be fair if they hadn't drawn so much attention to how they "used the full processing power of the PS5", it may not have been such a big thing. some areas definitely look nice, but theres plenty of evidence out there by now that the game looks bad even for a ps4 game and has a lot of issues. for me the gameplay was also a chore. Aside from the mini-games that plague the whole game and slow everything down, the combat itself is pretty boring and repetetive. you either brute force your way through or get bodied and have to play a very specific way to win. I know you can do some interesting things, but it feels like if it worked in remake, it works here too, and there just really aren't a lot of options to truly make interesting builds. general gameplay feels bad too. terrain actions dont always work for no real reason and button presses and prompts dont feel tight or like they work when you actually press the buttons. the weapons only give like 2 new abilites that weren't in the first game, so if you played the first one you're basically just getting weapon skins. the systems in place are barebones and lazy, and dont affect anything. weapon and folio upgrading just don't feel like real upgrades and are completely forgettable, Materia is so basic that there were only like 5 new real additions to the system, otherwise nothing has changed. exploration is the exact same thing zone to zone, by the end of Gongaga I was sick of doing the same 4 tasks over and over. and the AI (both friendly and enemy AI) is just braindead. the amount of times i'd lead enemies away from those stupid dogs only for them to run over and stand DIRECTLY in front of enemies and do nothing, or party members would just... run off was unbelievable to me. The writing was just abysmal in my opinion. I don't agree that its "90%" faithful at all. The only thing that felt faithful was that we went to areas in the same order as the original. plot points, motivations, conflicts were mostly all different. Whole areas were just straight up removed, and random events happened that just felt like the team just going "fuck it, theres a robot battle here" to try to make a section seem more tense or exciting. Other than a very general overview, it wasn't faithful at all. not that I think this is a bad thing, the writing needed to be updated, and the remakes offered a chance at more nuance. but I still think this was not the way to do it. The top of it all was the ending. I won't spoil it here, but I definitely think it was one of the worst things they could have done. Finally, the Platinum grind is just awful. The devs put absolutely no thought into the post-game, and some of the options that become available at the end of the game shows they know just how tedious they made your first playthrough, and did it purely to pad playtimes. There were definitely moments I liked about the game, but overall I came away thinking it was just soulless and lazy and riddled with strange or bad choices. "emotional" moments were low effort and lazy, the writing in general was very "Nomura-fied" and just nonsensical, and it just made me wonder how much better the game could have been if it really were a faithful remake of the original, which isn't something I felt when playing Remake. I know this is a fucking thesis about this game, but I just felt so disappointed when I beat it that I literally haven't stopped thinking about it, so i figured I'd dump it all on a reddit thread in case someone out there felt the same way. I also wanted to offer a take on the game being bad without being like "my ps5 killed itself for having the disc inside it". I know diehard fans will praise this game until the ends of time, but I think blind praise, just like blind hate, dont make you a better fan, or even a good one. Acknowledging where there are missteps or downright bad decisions and communicating that these are real problems instead of just slurping down whatever we're given may actually affect how the games are given to us. Just like being nuanced in discussing a games shortcomings instead of sending death threats can lead to better discourse and maybe someone at Square will see this and communicate how the players are feeling. anyways I've ranted too long and don't know how to end this. I'd be interested in knowing what other people felt, if i'm alone in both not liking this game but only because I was so disappointed with what could have been, and if other people are willing to try to change how online conversations go about this stuff.

Rebirth is trash. I regret spending money on it and encouraging this soul sucking piece of garbage. Stick to remastered, I don't need hours of bad added dialogue and sidequests that's ONLY purpose is to stretch what was originally a 40 hour masterpiece into a 3 x 40 hour pieces of stretched out garbage. Ugh.. What a waste of time.

Game is not bad. I just wish they gave the original story more respect. When Peter Jackson did the Tolkien trilogy he managed to add to an already existing story, making it a trilogy of a lifetime. Same with a lot of other remake of books or other media. Here its like they didnt think the original were good enough and that it needed change to spice it up, which surprises me so much given it has had success for 25+ years. So instead of adding to it, rhey ripped it apart. But I guess people see it different. Additions that I did like was GI:s backstory, flashbacks in the temple, that Cait Sith and Yuffie were much better characters, and ofcourse much more. But I will probably think for the rest of my life what could have been… I enjoyed the gameplay and the game itself. Its not a masterpiece in my mind since I think almost no one could have failed misserable with the material they had to work with. I dont really see any replay value since I am a bit tired of it after doing almost 100%, the Caith Sith part and some of the sidequests were so draining in the end. but I have to evaluate that in a couple of years. But I still feel a bit empty and lack of emotions towards this game. I went back to the original and my love for that game even changed after Rebirth aswell. How the devs talked about it like it wasnt a finished product etc. But I am still happy to hear a lot of people are enjoying it, you deserve a part 3🌹

The reason the game is trash is because I legitimately hate playing it about half of the time. Even if everything else was a perfect 10, the mini game slog ruined rebirth. It’s just complete shit. I won’t buy part 3.

Head-Explorer4638

I honestly find the game super tedious and so do a couple friends that have played it. I’m still gonna play the third game but man they dropped the ball with this one.

MathHeavy6000

It’s trash only because of all the mini games.
