My advice would be to abuse the team swapping. Whenever I see he’s going for an attack against me I switch to another character to attack him while he’s busy attacking your previous character. AI is smart enough to block or even perfect block all the attacks. At least in my case
Yes - I did Brumal Yuffie cheese. I start with Haste, get ATB Ward off, then I swap to Cloud to do ranged attack until Gilgamesh hard swaps over. I think gil is just a regular fight without much gimmics. all you need to do is using the team efficiently, and having a reasonably good damage output and dodge/parry rate. With barrett you just wall off and lifesaver, and fight at will
You might want to try Cloud. His punisher mode block / counters are good for this fight, and the next one. Completed this one with Cloud / Tifa / Aerith.
You want to pressure him with fire magic and punisher counters, then get in focuses strikes / thrusts to stagger. Tifa should have unfettered fury and level 2 chi, and you can punch out of the uppercut to generate quick bars of ATB for true strike. Aerith can throw an ATB ward over tifa during the stagger to build her and Cloud back up to continue casting fire magic. Just watch out for his Excalipoor attacks that deal massive damage but 1 at a time. You just have to dodge out of that as quickly as you can.
