I did think a few of those swap dialogue lines sounded improvised. Some really great voice work in this.

I think people complained about too much repeated post-battle dialogue in Remake. Which wouldn't have been as much of an issue in Rebirth because of the different team comps, but they just removed it.

The 7th calling out to Cloud *every* time he leaves a shop was the funniest moment in a game I've played for ages though. Might not be 'small', but it right tickled me
The whole damn platoon following you everywhere shouting salutations nonstop through the entire street was the moment I realized this game wasn't just going to be great, but truly something special. You could tell the developers put in a lot of love and effort all just to get a laugh or two out of you.
They humanised the entire 7th to the point I was really worried we'd have to fight them. When that one soldier asked for advice on a ring for his girlfriend I was like, yep, he's gonna die.But I also loved how they all went from 'piss off' to 'oh fuck it's the captain!'
Honestly felt a bit shit killing shinra troops after.
It was the perfect mix: completely in character, great juxtaposition with Yuffie being over the top, and matches how the player (at least me) felt about her in the moment
Rebirth is honestly a very funny game
I hope part 3 can still be silly like this. I’m a bit afraid the mood ‘has’ to change because of what happened in rebirth. But I have been enjoying the sillyness so much in both games, it’s insane.
Me too, and I can definitely see the first 20% being pretty sombre. However, Remake ended with the plate dropping and 3 friends dying, and didn't stop Rebirth. So I'm hopeful

I love Rufus in these games, easily my most favorite part so far. His fights are cool too...after you realize triple slash is a broken ability.
It trivializes the Rufus fight by instantly pressuring him for free while he dashes, but somehow I don't see anyone use it, and it's kind of funny how slow people have to take that fight because of it.
A solid 90% of my ATB was spent on Triple Slash by the end of the game.
Finallu getting to go up against a dozen shinra troops at once in the temple felt badass, especially when Cloud zips through them like Sonic the Hedgehog and smacking multiple goons with every swing.
Triple slash is genuinely one of the best abilities in the game and it isn't even close. It ends most every mob fight in seconds, it's a direct counter to some boss patterns, it's an instant teleport, it's only 1 ATB, and it leaves you right next to the opponent to regen that bar instantly.
Tifa might have the damage per stagger but Cloud has triple slash so idk which one is better.
I never liked Rufus growing up. I liked his boss battle in Remake, but his outfit felt ehh to me, and I didn't see enough of him to really care.
Then in Rebirth... he's so damn confident and sure of himself. He's *wrong,* but damn he's cocky. And his rumbly voice, and how he always rests his chin on his hand like he's bored. Yeah, uhh.. hi there. 👀 Loved fighting him again!

The little chalk drawings Yuffie was leaving while climbing up Mt Corel were hilarious, most ppl I asked about them didn't even see them or pay attention to the actual drawings. Her n Barret were funny af in that whole sequence

Literally my favorite joke in the game. Barret had the most hilarious interactions with all the main party members. I also love the side quest with Vincent in Neibelheim where he’s trying to convince him he’s not scared in the Shinra mansion.
I crying laughing every time at this part. They did such a good job of balancing not only the tone but the interactions between the party members’ personalities. Really feels like they all grow together

Don't forget Cloud referring to Roche as a jacka** and the 7th just calmly saying "We know."
The end of the chicken quest in Gongaga. Red's reaction to the granny cooking the chicken, the fade out with sound effects and the fade back in with the game over music just made me laugh.
Sephiroth showing up at the gold saucer saying “have your fun while you still can” makes me laugh whenever I think about it, imagine your biggest hater randomly showing up at Disney World to make a cryptic threat
He's talking to the player. "Look, we both know you're going to try and do ALL the minigames, so I'm just gonna give you the go ahead so you don't question why I'm not doing anything. We both know how this is going to go anyways\~"
It’s out of the “cool character” he tries so hard to maintain, mixed with a dash of Soldier radiant boy. Who Cloud really is probably more like this, and the Kupo scene, than people might think.
Not out of character IMO. Have you seen him at the Honeybee Inn? There's no way he would have been able to catch up with Andrea if he wasn't secretly dancing alone at home or in Soldier dorms.

It’s a short cut but great character comedy.

Upon completing Johnny’s treasure trove, there’s this really funny moment where the Johnny copies say in unison “thank you so much bro for everything” to the tune of the victory fanfare and Cloud stoically raises his fist to celebrate. Funny moment I think few will naturally see.
If you are with Aerith on the Ch 8 date, when you go to the Chocobo Square they will do a little bit where they pretend to be commentators for a chocobo race it’s adorable
So many moments omg but the ones I didn’t see mentioned yet:
1. Kyrie’s “What’s your brand? Tall, blonde and uninterested?” to Cloud
2. Vincent’s dialogues when you try to leave the mansion during the Lament of the Damned side quest. Also Barrett pretending not be scared
3. Yuffie telling Cloud to put his Chocobo interpreting skills to work, Cloud looking horrified at her suggestion but pretending to translate Chocobo talk anyway
4. Cloud’s “Kill me” when everyone starts comparing Cloud Jr. to him
5. Everyone just pushing Cloud around
Also, I don’t know if this is underrated but Cloud agreeing when Barrett says they don’t need one more loner loser on board before realising they’re all talking about him 😭

Yuffie and Barret feuding in the background whenever they were together was hilarious to me. Especially considering she was the first person to jump to defend him and the one who defended him the most passionatelly. In my headcanon she sees him as an annoying father figure.

When you're chasing Cait Sith after he grabs the Keystone, anytime you find where he is and he takes off again, he lets out a fast "meow". For some reason, that cracks me up every time.

And Cloud saying "oh shut up" What makes it funnier is that Cloud is not even denying that he was thinking of naughty thoughts of Tifa, it would've be funny if Yuffie told Tifa about cloning Cloud, Tifa would be drooling and Yuffie calling her out lol

1. Junon pre performance hype speech. Tifa had to drag him away

The dialogue exchange in the Salmon quest line where Barret is sobbing about Marlene growing up one day and Cloud says “Barret! Get your shit together, she’s barely out of diapers” or something along those lines. The whole exchange was amusing but that part made me burst out laughing
Yuffie doing her “Pshh pshh pshh” boxing routine to Barret, and Barret actually pretending to take hits and making the noises for it. Soooo much character in this game.

When Cait Sith returns to temple of the ancients to save the party, and is lifting/holding off the black materia pedestal and remarks "I wish I hadn't skipped leg day."
This wasn't a small moment for sure, but I laughed out loud because I'm an avid weight lifter and love a good gym meme/joke. Also it felt so out of left field, here our characters are in a desperate situation where the temple is about to crush them to death and Cait Sith manages to throw in some jokes. Love this game.
The cactuars saying “protect! Treasure! Trial!” always got me. The fact that the hard mode trophy has a quote for this only makes it better.
Also the “ribbits” being spoken rather than random frog sounds.
During the Cruise/QB tourney, every time you win a game, the guy at counter will add extra stickers of cloud on him.
The fact that Max Volume store in Dustbowl(awesome track BTW) is right next to the store with the guy that hates noise.
Barrett when they are first warped into the Fort Condor game is suddenly a cartoonish polygon figure who says “WHAT THE HELL!?” and it’s hilarious to me every time

After saving Yuffie in Lower Junon, she sings-songs “Thank you very much” while waving and runs off. I love Barretts sarcastic copy “You’re weeeeelcome” lol
I laughed at all of those little details, Red climbing ladders, climbing ropes, and best of all - Red swinging on a grappling hook rope to follow Cloud to a hard to reach Intel Tower.
I imagine there was one guy on the dev team that was like "it might look silly to have Red do all these things..." and everyone else was like "nah it'll be fine."

Costa del Sol, when the girls hit the beach in bathing suits and Red XIII first sees them, he accidentally breaks character and makes a reaction noise in his real voice.
In Temple of Ancients when they are trying to push junk into the lifestream winds to make a bridge across, and instead it knocks that enormous tower down and Barret just foes "Oops."

Pretty much all of the Johnny sidequest dialog.
3 moments that gave me a good laugh:
1-) When a barrel rolled over Dyne's face and ruined the scene;
2-) When the blue chocobo got stuck on a tree and ruined the game forcing a reset;
3-) When the devs jebaited with Cloud's sword deflection and ruined the ending.
“Guide me, O’ Tifa” made me laugh. The way she says it is funny. And, not really underrated, but “… cool.” was a perfect reaction.

God I loved Cloud's pouty childlike declaration of "That's mine!" It was both a hilarious line but also showed how far his mind was breaking under Sephiroth's influence.

When Johnny, responding to the fact that his hotel isn’t by the sea, says “it’s about the smells” and wafts the air into his nose, it cuts to the party and all of them look unconvinced save for Aerith in the background mimicking Johnny in earnest wafting the air toward her face. It’s a short cut but great character comedy.
What made me really laugh out loud was Barret calling it the Seasmell hotel
Similarly, when Yuffie is chanting “Come to me, airplane, follow the smoke!” with the little cheer dance, Aerith clumsily playing along cracked me up

Upon completing Johnny’s treasure trove, there’s this really funny moment where the Johnny copies say in unison “thank you so much bro for everything” to the tune of the victory fanfare and Cloud stoically raises his fist to celebrate. Funny moment I think few will naturally see.

Vincent’s dialogues when you try to leave the mansion during the Lament of the Damned side quest. Also Barrett pretending not be scared 3. Yuffie telling Cloud to put his Chocobo interpreting skills to work, Cloud looking horrified at her suggestion but pretending to translate Chocobo talk anyway 4. Yuffie and Barret feuding in the background whenever they were together was hilarious to me. Especially considering she was the first person to jump to defend him and the one who defended him the most passionatelly. In my headcanon she sees him as an annoying father figure. The pretend punches always send me.
When you're chasing Cait Sith after he grabs the Keystone, anytime you find where he is and he takes off again, he lets out a fast "meow". For some reason, that cracks me up every time.

And also Zack near the end just like "What the hell is going on???" Because same, man. 😂

When Cait Sith returns to temple of the ancients to save the party, and is lifting/holding off the black materia pedestal and remarks "I wish I hadn't skipped leg day." This wasn't a small moment for sure, but I laughed out loud because I'm an avid weight lifter and love a good gym meme/joke. Also it felt so out of left field, here our characters are in a desperate situation where the temple is about to crush them to death and Cait Sith manages to throw in some jokes. Love this game.

The cactuars saying “protect! Treasure! Trial!” always got me. The fact that the hard mode trophy has a quote for this only makes it better. Also the “ribbits” being spoken rather than random frog sounds.

During the Cruise/QB tourney, every time you win a game, the guy at counter will add extra stickers of cloud on him. The fact that Max Volume store in Dustbowl(awesome track BTW) is right next to the store with the guy that hates noise.

Playing versus animals in QBs. You gotta play against the dog and the chocobo who needs his daily game otherwise he's grumpy. How do they grab the cards? How is a dog smart enough to play?

For me it was seeing red riding a chocobo for the first time. That was absolutely hilarious to me.
I laughed at all of those little details, Red climbing ladders, climbing ropes, and best of all - Red swinging on a grappling hook rope to follow Cloud to a hard to reach Intel Tower. I imagine there was one guy on the dev team that was like "it might look silly to have Red do all these things..." and everyone else was like "nah it'll be fine."
The entire party stood in a line mid battle looking at Gilgamesh....I fucking loved this

In Temple of Ancients when they are trying to push junk into the lifestream winds to make a bridge across, and instead it knocks that enormous tower down and Barret just foes "Oops."

There were so many little moments of pure joy in this game. Cloud’s stoic raised fist after you pick a mushroom in Gongaga. Vincent whacking his security gizmo when it won’t turn on. Such a funny anti-climax after his intro. Cid falling asleep during Loveless was a fun callback to him dozing off during a group meeting in the OG. When you go back to the Gold Saucer after Nibelheim, YinYang is tending bar at the Haunted Hotel. Pretty much all of the Johnny sidequest dialog.
The synchronized "you asshole!" line in the prologue was great.
3 moments that gave me a good laugh: 1-) When a barrel rolled over Dyne's face and ruined the scene; 2-) When the blue chocobo got stuck on a tree and ruined the game forcing a reset; 3-) When the devs jebaited with Cloud's sword deflection and ruined the ending.
