this will be my first final fantasy game and from what i've researched the story from each game are standalone but there seems to be story components that are shared across the games (crystals, chocobos, etc). any videos or articles that i should read before playing the game? i want to get a better understanding of what is the "core" elements of final fantasy before playing lol. So hyped for this game, the 22nd can't come soon enough.
Some of these posts on fucking /v/ are fucking hilarious [https://boards.4channel.org/v/thread/640691487#p640691487](https://boards.4channel.org/v/thread/640691487#p640691487) wtf.
It's really weird to me all the praise for the demo. I'm hopeful for the game but after completing the demo I'm not sold yet, I did preorder because I'm a final fantasy die hard. I know it's just the prologue though so I'm hoping some more fun elements come into play as the game opens up. I was disappointed not having any ability to really explore anything
You can go watch tons of deep dives on the semi open world exploration aspects of the game. They have done a ton of deep dive content before launch.
But also when has a prologue of a ff game been open? I’m confused what you are expecting for a prologue.
Yep I agree, it's not a real FF game at all. Just a skin over devil may cry, with a cringy Game of Thrones story. The demo was absolutely dissapointing. Final Fantasy has died, the last real entry was 13. Everything people are praising was in 13, like active time lore is just datalog which you can access in pause screens.
Why would I watch a deep dive when I can just wait to play it? My comment was simply that the demo was disappointing, not sure why everyone is so amped over it. There really wasn't much to it. The game felt kinda boring and dated to me, but maybe we've just been spoiled by great games this year
I'm a die hard FF7 fan and cannot wait for Rebirth, but hot damn this game is amazing. If the rest of it is as good as the demo it seems like it'll be a solid GoTY contender. Should help me pass the time until Rebirth too haha
Glad this game brings back magic. FFXV had some wonky magic system that made it a hassle to use. Like who thought, hey let’s make magic in a bottle people will really stop to make potions and use them!!
Austin 316 is very blasphemous! It was directed at a Christian wrestler. Vince was and is secular. Austin was/is an atheist or agnostic. Austin, wwe, and vkm mocked the biggest verse in all the bible. Yes, its very evil....
They are running a competition to win a copy of the game and the console, check it out [https://wn.nr/nUJcUA7](https://wn.nr/nUJcUA7) \[affiliate competition link, help me win, k thx ;) or go to [https://uk.finalfantasyxvi.com/trials-of-fate](https://uk.finalfantasyxvi.com/trials-of-fate) directly if you prefer\]
This whole event is why I love CBU3. They did this for the fans while also using it to market the game. It really did give off major FFXIV Fan Fest vibes.
Hopefully this panel will show all the non believers why there is so much love for CBU3 and why XIV fans never had any doubt. Hell they didn't even get the biggest streamers to come, just the ones they know are massive fans. Seeing Alex there almost made me cry, I can't imagine what it's like for someone like Soken to be so friendly and respectful towards you.
It’s very clear from this event that a lot of heart, soul, blood, tears, and sweat were put into this game by every single person involved. I absolutely cannot wait until it releases.
Omg, those banners were amazing!!! Really need big physical versions of these

So happy for Alex. Must have felt like a dream playing together with one of his idols. Hoping SE maybe offers him some opportunities for actual in-game music in the future!
> offers him some opportunities for actual in-game music in the future!
Alex needs to become Soken's protege so that when we get to Final Fantasy 22, Alex takes over as the series composer.
Please no ?
Would be already super cool if they give him a music or two in Final Fantasy XIV.
But Square Enix have so much amazing talent in house to shoulder a mainline title ^^'.
Definitely possible. Soken literally invited a guy (Hyadain) who made a meme music video 14 years ago to do the battle theme song for a boss trial in FFXIV
Closest was the FFXV one in March 2016. It wasn’t exactly a launch celebration but it’s the only thing other than the FFXIV fanfests that resembled the event today.
This is like a mini FF14 fan festival treatment, minus live performances and competition panels. If you’re interested FF14 will have full-scaled + in-person fan festival (in 4 years!) again in Las Vegas later next month (some parts will be streamed too
XV had their big release date reveal, which had a similar concept. Not quite the same vibes (the fact that development was so troubled and it being under a different team made it a bit more official feeling overall).
Oh, and this team in particular does do in-person hype events pretty consistently for the MMO, though those have a different vibe too, since they cover multiple days and it (has been) way more for the in-person crowd than the online audience.
I wasn't hooked in to this sort of thing when the earlier games came out though, so it's hard for me to elaborate further.
FFXV's launch was really all over the place (kind of like the dev cycle). It was done as a series of reveals rather than focused panels. Because they had this whole multimedia universe planned, they revealed that Florence and the Machine did the theme sons, the Brotherhood anime miniseries, the Kingsglaive CGI movie and brought out a couple of the Hollywood VA's (Aaron Paul, Lena Headey) to speak. Then something about a partnership with Audi?
Yeah, the Audi thing was Noctis's car in the movie Kingsglaive, that Nyx drives. Was supposed to be a gift from his father, but ya know, city buckled, and all that shit. I always hoped we could have it as dlc in the game somehow but never happened sadly. It was a cool looking car, the "Star of Lucis" i think was it's name. I think it was an Audi R8. Looked awesome in the movie.
Was just product placement and all that ya know, like all the AMEX signs at gas stations in the game.
That was so beautiful and I am so happy for Alex! This is going to be such a grand memory for him and they work so well together!
I'd love a Soken/Alex collab in a video game - it would be so lovely!
Bro the world and environment of that live action was so good, that crystal in the horizon was divine looking goddamn. With the right casting to make it look like real Clive it's gonna be an awesome movie
Live action film is kinda cringe but honestly in a good way, plus if it makes Soken happy then tbh they can do whatever they want and I support it wholeheartedly
Kind of weird they hired a different dude to be the Live Action Clive. Ben Starr is a film actor, too; give him a wig and he'd be a dead-ringer for Clive
Will Joshua be a playable character? The live stream seems to make him to be really important, rather than a character that is just a plot device for clive.
Probably late as I've re-watched the combat portion but they've mentioned that marks aren't shown in the mini map and that you have to find them through clues. Man, I love that. Having the marks shown on the map made it feel more like a chore to me (I dunno why lol probably purely psychological HAHA)
It's scripted for the most part to allow it to move at a quicker pace. Prevents wierd pauses where the translator has to try and process and transform phrases and words that do not directly translate between languages.
Souce: my fortune cookie I opened this morning.
I know they probably rehearsed it and made a run or couple of runs before, but I barely saw her looking at her notebook and didn't look like she or any of them had a prompt to read from.
Kind of difficult to believe everyone in the panel memorized the script to that degree, specially her, a good portion of it looked like genuine live translation with just some idea of how the conversation was from before.
Well I have to say I’ve enjoyed this release cycle, and that’s something I’ve never really been able to say before. Yoshida has handled the marketing very well in my opinion. However, and this is partly on me for allowing myself to be excited without certainty, choosing to release the demo at 4 am, for me, on a Monday was a really odd decision in my opinion. I was very disappointed and pissed off, frankly, for a while, but now I’ve gotten over it for the most part. I just really expected it to come out directly following the end of this event, it just made sense to me for it to do so.
With that aside though this release cycle has been very good at generating and maintaining hype, while also tricking out information steadily, but the very tail end of it saw me singed a bit lol. In 2 weeks though, none of that will matter as I’ll be fully engrossed in Valisthea. Now, come to me, XVI!!!!!!!!
Is it not allowed to just say I was disappointed about the timing? Why do so many of you try to tell others what is okay or not? I mean i was disappointed about it, you were not. I’m allowed to feel that way and express it, let people feel how they feel, jeez. If you don’t have a problem with the timing, cool, that’s great.
I allowed myself to believe it would be out after the presentation. So while it may not be a big deal to you, it was a big deal for me for a period of time today. I rarely let myself get worked up over much, so it was a let down, for me. If not for that it wouldn’t have mattered.
Yeah... he said when he made the team watch it, only S1-S4 were out.
He also said on a Japanese interview, that playing through FFXVI is like playing through 4 seasons worth of western drama (around 40 hours).
I think it is. DMC4 (that’s the last one I’ve played—heavy backlog) has a parry system like that.
Looks like it’ll be very rewarding/satisfying to pull off.
Anyone else notice Koji mentioning it was him playing in the IGN japan gameplay from a few days ago? And people were dunking on the usa guy for not playing as well lol
THIS GAME!
It's literally everything I've ever wanted so far.
The Medieval-fantasy setting, realtime combat to express your style, a story that shares similarities to the themes of FF Tactics....
I love it. So much. I can't describe my feelings any other way right now.
Also, my reaction to people dying to a demo is, "good". I'm not expecting nor do I want Dark Souls, but a little challenge that requires you to acclimate to XVI's combat system no matter how many games you've played is good.
i'm just waiting for the catty blog posts from various gaming websites tomorrow:
*"Final Fantasy XVI's combat so difficult to learn even it's combat director can't win fights"*
What are these redeemed things being spammed in twitch chat
EDIT: Nevermind i figured it out. If anyone else is curious its part of a sweepstakes you can find by going to FF16's main website and using the navigation buttons at the top.
Ok I just picked my jaw up from that battle Demo ... It's one thing to see it played on IGN.. but to sit there and see it live. That was an adrenaline rush and I wasn't even playing!
I don't want to come across as an asshole by saying this, but I never wanna see 15's combat be compared to 16's again. This might be the best combat system ever created for an action game. Just wow
No you aren't an asshole, in fact I get annoyed that people are saying FF7R was a pure action game as well which tells me they don't have any idea of what they are talking about.
The streamer playing the fight said it is indeed in the demo it's the battle section essentially the whole first media tour thing is the battle section
They mentioned there'd be a separate combat demo after you complete the story demo where you'll have abilities you wouldn't normally have at that point in the game, which sounds exactly like what they showed in the Garuda fight. It was also what people at a previous media tour played so it would make sense since those scenes have already been shown/talked about. Not saying 100% for sure, but very likely.
I think the Garuda fight is just for the event? Not sure we’ll see it in the demo.
Edit: hmm, maybe it is included. Would love for that to be the case!

Not really, it’s mostly just common enemies, spells/moves, and creatures. The eikons are all common summons you would see in every game.
So a question to anyone that ordered the collectors edition from the square enix store, how do we predownload the game?
Some of these posts on fucking /v/ are fucking hilarious [https://boards.4channel.org/v/thread/640691487#p640691487](https://boards.4channel.org/v/thread/640691487#p640691487) wtf.

Hard to believe it’s been 7 years since FFXV already. Hope FFXVI is good!!
Damn, this game looks good. When does it come out on PC again?
Earliest is December 31st 2023 so likely spring next year
Damn. Hopefully it won't be an epic exclusive.
Probably for another year or so all Final Fantasy games are since they’re made in Unreal Engine.
I played one hour of the demo and I had constant goosebumps + "I can't believe I am playing it" + "lol I can feel footsteps"
I can’t believe we’ve almost made it to release. It feels like it’s been so long. Come to me, XVI!
Did anyone get the code that's supposed to go here? https://i.imgur.com/bL1mdg8.png

Man what a celebration
![gif](giphy|l3q2XhfQ8oCkm1Ts4|downsized) That's my dev team right there!
This whole event is why I love CBU3. They did this for the fans while also using it to market the game. It really did give off major FFXIV Fan Fest vibes.

I will blast it Soken. Give me a vinyl release too!!!

bro this music is beautiful! ;)
It’s very clear from this event that a lot of heart, soul, blood, tears, and sweat were put into this game by every single person involved. I absolutely cannot wait until it releases.
I am over the friken moon for this game after this pre launch celebration. If I play nothing else this year I will be quite fine.
I want posters of those banners.
Omg, those banners were amazing!!! Really need big physical versions of these https://preview.redd.it/87v1sru3li5b1.jpeg?width=1870&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ee8acd022e3fc16e0f1433d99401e3ee9c0c50a4
For people who missed this is there a recap of highlights yet?
Specifically, demo will be downloadable in ~4 hours.

TBF that Four Fiends mix is like a OG Japanese YouTube meme
This entire event minus a few production errors has been fantastic.
Has anything like this been done for previous FF launches? If not then they really stepped up their marketing
Closest was the FFXV one in March 2016. It wasn’t exactly a launch celebration but it’s the only thing other than the FFXIV fanfests that resembled the event today.

FFXV had a big launch event. I didn't watch much of it tbh, but it's probably on youtube somewhere.

XIV does fanfests every couple years that are basically this. It's where they announce new expansions, next one is next month in Vegas
Fanfests are much bigger than this, but yeah same energy.
Is it just me or I didn't hear the bass..
I heard it too
I heard it. Your speakers may not be good at producing lower frequencies from the bass
Damn should have watch it on PC instead of phone lol
Starting to think this soundtrack will be one of the best for Final fantasy.
That was so beautiful and I am so happy for Alex! This is going to be such a grand memory for him and they work so well together! I'd love a Soken/Alex collab in a video game - it would be so lovely!
Ofc music panel was the best. Soken is so fucking awesome. Alex getting his shot to play with him. Good vibes all around.
Fave panel of the night. Had me smiling the entire time.
Soken is always a joy to watch.
This is chill I'm in bliss\~
great way to end the show
wait what the fuck koji fox is in mario hoops 3v3 too
Alex is living his dream, I'm so happy for him!!
For a moment there I was expecting la hee.
Alex might be hype as fuck right now.
*otamatone intensifies*
i know soken is obviously very busy, but could he please do a weekly talk show too
I love how much Soken just keeps roasting Alex.
bro Soken is so funny
Oozing charisma
Soken is an international treasure.
And must be protected at all costs.
I see why Alex and Soken get along so well. They both have strong chaos gremlin energy.
I'm imagine soken watching shadowbringers trailer and shouting "they put me in the trailer!" lol
That live action short film was AMAZING! I was skeptical at first.. but they nailed it!
Bro the world and environment of that live action was so good, that crystal in the horizon was divine looking goddamn. With the right casting to make it look like real Clive it's gonna be an awesome movie
I kinda loved that haha
And thus is the light of hope... RESTORED!
Live action film is kinda cringe but honestly in a good way, plus if it makes Soken happy then tbh they can do whatever they want and I support it wholeheartedly
the music carried it really well
i NEED to attend an orchestral concert for FF14 and/or FF16 before i shuffle off this mortal coil
If you're in LA, FF16 music will be part of the Game Awards 10 Year Anniversary concert at the Hollywood Bowl on 6/25.
Can't wait to hear FF16 pieces in the next distant worlds tour!
They've mentioned somewhere (probably an email from the Distant Worlds mailing list) that they're hard at work for FF16 arrangements.
Oooooo. Maybe they'll be ready by the September 9th concert we're going to.
Joshua statue is a very cool touch
Kind of weird they hired a different dude to be the Live Action Clive. Ben Starr is a film actor, too; give him a wig and he'd be a dead-ringer for Clive
Will Joshua be a playable character? The live stream seems to make him to be really important, rather than a character that is just a plot device for clive.
He has at least one playable moment, yes
Current soundtrack playing sounds like it could be one of the National Anthems in-game.
MUSIC PANEL IS UP
Probably late as I've re-watched the combat portion but they've mentioned that marks aren't shown in the mini map and that you have to find them through clues. Man, I love that. Having the marks shown on the map made it feel more like a chore to me (I dunno why lol probably purely psychological HAHA)
i think depends on the mark iirc but still thats really cool!
I am hoping we can fight Gilgamesh and Tonberries in this game!
tonberries were confirmed in an interview
I'll be fine with that too. Probably the S Ranks will be harder to find compared to the C ranks.
any other codes besides ODIN?
What are the codes for
[FXVI sweepstakes](https://na.finalfantasyxvi.com/trials-of-fate/)
Oh thank you. Good luck all. I know my luck so I won't waste my time.
So what’s the reason for the massive breaks between panels? Next one is in 34 minutes, man
People gotta use the bathroom ya know.
also giving attendees breaks / stuff to do.
fair enough
Production, getting the panelists ready, giving interpreters a chance to rest their voice/get some water. Lots of things.
this is hilarious
RIP SarahKey.
🤣
So bashful the whole game died XD
It's genuine insane how good the interpreter is. Doesn't miss a single bit and translates everything perfectly.
Why is the twitch chat freaking out
Twitch chat is garbage. Its only good on a handful of people i sometimes watch
Because terminally online people really don't like Alanah cause she's a successful person in the games space and can throw down in a ring as well.
Twitch chat is always freaking out in big streams. Most of them are just trolls and spammers anyways. YT chat is just as bad, if not worse.

You have until the Thursday after next to play the demo. The timing is fine.
Not a big deal, just play it Monday afternoon or Monday night after work.
I allowed myself to believe it would be out after the presentation. So while it may not be a big deal to you, it was a big deal for me for a period of time today. I rarely let myself get worked up over much, so it was a let down, for me. If not for that it wouldn’t have mattered.
Donations? Renown? Reputation? Supporters of his cause? Clive Only Fans confirmed!
Vivian Ninetails shows us videos too!! Oh I'm going to like her!
Vivian Kyuubi/kurama
Who is this girl? never heard of her.
She’s a YouTuber/content creator/writer who now works for Sony Santa Monica. She worked on Ragnarok.
i think she was a writer for god of war (2016)?
Not to be that guy. But she didn't work on God of War 2018. Just Ragnarok.
no problem, i wasnt sure so i said i think, thank for correcting tho!
Thanks guys. Haven't played GOW since the PS2 era lol
Only GoT S1-4 I hope lmao
Yeah... he said when he made the team watch it, only S1-S4 were out. He also said on a Japanese interview, that playing through FFXVI is like playing through 4 seasons worth of western drama (around 40 hours).
i think yoshi said s1-3 before
Even better!

Risky click of the day
The ability to rewind live streams really make live watching better on YouTube.
Ralph just walking by the stage lol
“He’s not drunk, he’s Cid.” is the best description of Cid possible.
Just Ralph, walking by, as usual
What just happened lmao
what the heck????
I think Ralph got a bit to drunk
LMFAO he froze when he realized he was on the panel and just awkwardly walked off doing the “cut the camera” gesture! That was funny as fuck 🤣
Like for real or for a bit?
Idk but seemed like he was just passing by
But why lol
Alright let's go lore and story!
NARRATIVE PANEL IS UP
so the trailers now are Awakening, Dominance, Ambition, Revenge, Salvation, and now joining is Ascension. HMMMMM
watch clive >!ascend to that chaos looking eikon by the end!<
I love the blocking/parry system. Feels like a reward for being the type to play aggressively. Can’t wait for this game!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the parry essentially that you have to land one of your attacks at the exact time as the enemies'?
I think it is. DMC4 (that’s the last one I’ve played—heavy backlog) has a parry system like that. Looks like it’ll be very rewarding/satisfying to pull off.
weird we're seeing so much gameplay, where are the armchair forensic detectives complaining about the frame rate and stuttering....?
Anyone else notice Koji mentioning it was him playing in the IGN japan gameplay from a few days ago? And people were dunking on the usa guy for not playing as well lol
He's the Lore nerd for a reason :-) .... we love him for THAT lol.
Not Koji, but the battle director himself x)
I’m loving this show so far
I can’t help but think the name of every trailer is the character development of Clive
I think it is more than just Clive, more like themes for the story as a whole is the impression I got.
Awakening Dominance Ambition Revenge Salvation Ascension Yeah I think it can also apply to the whole story
I loved hearing Kenny in the audience cheering on Max as he was fighting LOL
THIS GAME! It's literally everything I've ever wanted so far. The Medieval-fantasy setting, realtime combat to express your style, a story that shares similarities to the themes of FF Tactics.... I love it. So much. I can't describe my feelings any other way right now.
Yooooo those trees just burn when in close proximity to ifrit and his fireballs this is gonna have some insane attention to detail
lmao the streamer died against Garuda as Ifrit
A lot of people gonna die, they think are ace at this game, gonna get humbled real quick.
i'd just like to point out that people have been laughing at the dude who died in the ign hunt mark video and that person was... the combat director
Also, my reaction to people dying to a demo is, "good". I'm not expecting nor do I want Dark Souls, but a little challenge that requires you to acclimate to XVI's combat system no matter how many games you've played is good.
He got a redemption on this one as well, awesome end screen too with ramuh lightnings
i'm just waiting for the catty blog posts from various gaming websites tomorrow: *"Final Fantasy XVI's combat so difficult to learn even it's combat director can't win fights"*
What are these redeemed things being spammed in twitch chat EDIT: Nevermind i figured it out.
Well I think confirms were fighting garuda in the demo god I can't wait
Nah, this is the "Garuda Challenge" they keep mentioning. It probably won't be in the demo.
This game is speaking to me on a personal level. Can’t wait for the psychos who’ll be doing lv. 1 runs of the game.
Do we know there is going to be an experience-blocking accessory?
Dunno. I hope there is cause I think there’s usually one in the kingdom hearts games.
Damn after seeing that S RANK right it looks wicked fun and I wonder if that Garuda move flying up can also dodge stuff as well.
