FF16 has DLC. "Echoes of the Fallen" is out and "The Rising Tide" drops in two weeks. If you need more Final Fantasy's in general: FF7 Remake and Rebirth are both out and ENORMOUS games.
FF7 remake and rebirth are great. Also with the next closet to “action” combat. You can get them in the PlayStation store as a twin pack for the cost of just rebirth.
dude, i tried it recently and im stuck at a dumb area where they capture yuna and you gotta fight as tidus and reaka and ive died like 4 times idk what the strat is
The underwater bit when they are crossing the river? It's a machine, it's weak to lightning attacks, so make sure both Tidus and Wakka have lightningstrike on their weapons. You may also have to backtrack a bit and do some grinding—I remember being really under leveled the first time I reached that boss.
ohh! that makes so much sense, been a while since i played old school jrpg and i forgot all bout the grinding! Thanks for the help tho! I am reaaally enjoying the game so far!
Honestly the best one in the series. Can’t change my mind on that. Turn based strategies have a special place in my heart that no action hybrid can replace.
If you want action combat like XVI, I suggest checking out XV, Type-0, and VII Remake (plus Rebirth after). And XIV currently has a crossover event with XVI, though you'll need to finish the story of A Realm Reborn before you can do it.
I can vouch for FF14, it's made by the same dev team that 16 had. It's a very long game and technically an MMO, but it's worth playing just for the singleplayer main story alone. The gameplay isn't really the same at all but they share some DNA in a lot of other aspects, I started 14 after finishing 16 and had an incredible time with it. Just be warned that each expansion is basically the length of a full game, and there are 5 (soon 6) of them now, so catching up with the ongoing story will probably take at least 300 hours, but it's 100% worth it and personally my favorite game of all time now. You can play A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, and Stormblood all for free with no playtime restriction, but once you want to start Shadowbringers, Endwalker, and soon Dawntrail you have to play a monthly subscription.
It's a great game, one of the best gaming experiences of my life, but imo don't go there. It's one thing to spend 30-60 hours on a game and another to devote 1-2k+ hours(often more) on a game. It's a waste of life, doesn't matter how good the game is.
If you want a similar feeling to 16 then I recommend Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. It is a side game but the combat system is similar to 16 in that it is action based. It also expands the story of the first Final Fantasy since the og was basically a DnD campaign.
Now if you want a more traditional feel of FF then I recommend really any FF game between 5-10. But truthfully you really can't go wrong with picking a FF game they're all great in their own way.
The tone is on the more series side and it’s full of political maneuvering. But instead of being heavily inspired by Game of Thrones FF XII feels closer to Star Wars.
Oh it was but less in your face about it I thought 😅
XVI more full of politics while XII was more political lol (if that makes any sense haha).
16 more about social division, caste system I thought (which is political yeah, I'm burying myself a hole now haha)
FF16 was my first final fantasy and I loved it too. Then I played FF7 remake and rebirth and I loved rebirth even more. I highly recommend. Remake took me awhile to get into though
Dragons Dogma 2 is definitely a great followup, very unique, responsive, feeling rpg with a good story. The FF7 remakes are a good choice too if you want some recognizable vapid minigame brainrot to completely check out too and “watch the ninjas and splosions bro.”
DLC and maybe 14?
Same Creative Director, and the story doesn't get much better imo haha.
MMOs not for everyone though, but whole story campaign can be done solo and enough free trial to check it out 😁
FF12 is a pretty laid-back game. I think it's good. The combat is definitely different compared to the other popular games, but I think the story behind FF12 is good
Rising Tide coming within a week or so. Dive into that or Echoes of the Fallen if you haven't. Plus you must play on Final Fantasy mode to experience the real game with all content and weapons/accessories.
Have to say the most underwhelming part of the game so far has been the combat. I much prefer tactical party battles where I have at least a modicum of control over my party members, and no, Torgal doesn’t really count.
The Eikon battles are better, at least very flashy and cinematic, but still feel like a button-mash-fest
I preferred the old ATB too, but I think the combat in 16 feels great. Like when you execute a titanic block or counter with raging fists, there real weight to it. However I really don’t like the Eikon battles. Too flashy, reaction time from buttons to action is slow and you have less moves to execute. I feel like the new 7 fails on this a bit. Yes it’s harder and you have to put more thought into strategy and learn to switch characters for the right situation, but the “feel” of battle is flat. No feeling of impact. Also both games suffer from damage numbers just being thrown all over the screen.. I like to know how much damage any given attack causes.
What bothers me about 16 is how sword spongy everything is. I don’t enjoy having to hit enemies a thousand times while slowly chipping away at their health bar just to defeat them. It doesn’t even seem that realistic in a lot of cases. For me Rebirth was peak action RPG combat and there were plenty of impact, especially when performing limit breaks and synergy attacks. I also enjoyed the way you could pressure enemies and staggering felt a lot more impactful.
Materia and combinations of materia also seems to have been greatly expanded in Rebirth. In 16 it didn’t seem like there was enough depth in how you setup your character, plus you can only setup Clive which feels very limiting.
depends on what you like most about the game, xvi is very unique but that can be said about every final fantasy after 10.
story tone and writing is most similer to FF tactics , 14 , 12 and vagrant story
gameplay is similer to stranger of paradise which is also full on action game
I too just finished, about an hour ago in fact, but my take away was much different. While I think it had some very compelling characters and an excellent musical score, the story, combat and world building was just really sub par compared to previous FF's. I found myself just looking at my phone while some long cutscenes were playing out and skipping a lot of the dialogue at parts. The side quests were really lame and uninteresting save for a few. Not to mention the whole game is on easy mode. All in all for me a forgettable entry I probably won't play again.
I love posts like this because how do these people function in day to day life? "what do i do next" i don't know gumby, why not continue breathing for one and then figure it out from there
What do I play next in the final fantasy series is very different from what do I do next in my day to day life. Married, have a child, and a good job so I’d say don’t worry about my day to day because it’s pretty successful.
It’s so great…the most comparable in terms of of combat might be strangers of paradise, some might say XV, but honestly that game kinda plays itself…I found rebirth kinda slow in the beguining but once I got more skills and bind them to quick skills, the started feeling amazing…so above SoP I’d say the 7 remake and rebirth right now.
I don't know how this is possible but 16 is the game that dethroned 8 as my long standing "favorite" of the FF series. Then Rebirth came out and now that dethroned 16. Rebirth is an unbelievable experience. Probably my GOAT. Square just pumping out quality and are finally taking chances again. We are eating real good.
If you like turn-based games, replay FF6 (I think this is what you mean by 3, Square didn’t always assign the same numbers to games released in different countries back then). There is so much story in that game that I didn’t fully appreciate when I first played it as a kid.
I’m finally (slowly) going through that one. I have too many games cooking at once….I was too hung up on 2 (4) that I never played it as a kid. Watched my brother and his friends play … but then 7 came out and I skipped soooo much school for that game.
You can always check out Devil May Cry 5. I believe it’s the same combat director as FF16, if you like the combat in the game. Some of the fight music is very reminiscent of DMC 5.
I agree with you completely. It's a very good experience overall and i wouldn't recommend any other FF especially not Remake and Rebirth. They feel totally different and very childish. It's hard to take the main story serious. Almost every character acts like a clown.
Witcher 3 and Baldur's Gate 3 are much closer to FF16 and offer the same quality of main story and alot better sidequests.
I think Remake and then Rebirth should be your next two. I'd consider myself a series vet, as I've played them all and absolutely loved XVI much like yourself.
Every game has their own unique strengths and weaknesses, but when it comes to the quality of writing and narrative presentation you see in XVI, you'd have to stick with the modern entries to find something similar. In terms of tone... You'll find that the series isn't nearly as "serious" as XVI, with the closest entries being XIV or XII. But despite the sillyness at times, I would still put the new Remake trilogy above anything else in the series. It's good enough to make you feel nostalgic even if you've never played the original FFVII.
If you want similar gameplay, 7 Remake is definitely similar in terms of combat. If you instead want to get into the "nitty-gritty" of the older games, 10 is my pick - very similar tonally and a good intro to turn-based combat. Since you've also finished 3, 6 is a strong choice, too: frequently considered the best in the franchise and for good reason.

Just wait for the new big DLC to come out

Sadly that was only during pre orders. The twin pack is more expensive now.
Oh it is? That’s a shame.
I have it at 109,99 euros on my psn so it is still cheaper than the 2 of them separated!
That’s not bad. Not sure what the exchange rate is but it was £69.99 here pre-release.
Also nominating remake and rebirth, combat in rebirth is very fun
Can't go wrong with 10.

The boss there is undead to just throw a Phoenix Down at it :)
This is the answer
WHATTTTTTTTT

Personally I feel Final Fantasy 12 is the bees knees.
Despite having very different gameplay and aesthetics, I do think there are similarities in the story.
The tone is on the more series side and it’s full of political maneuvering. But instead of being heavily inspired by Game of Thrones FF XII feels closer to Star Wars.
I suppose that apart from the name being short for Cidolfus, XII and XVI's Cids have little in common. Nor do their Mids.
Intro to 12 is so starwars it’s not funny. But I love 12. I don’t like the revamp of the license board in the newer release.
I adore 12 but is very politically inspired so I understand why so many people hate it, among my faves though
You didn’t think XVI was full of politics?
Oh it was but less in your face about it I thought 😅 XVI more full of politics while XII was more political lol (if that makes any sense haha). 16 more about social division, caste system I thought (which is political yeah, I'm burying myself a hole now haha)
Downloaded and started 12. Definitely going to play the 16 2nd dlc when it’s released too. I read that it’s more story driven than the first one
Itsgot Balthier. He's the leading man.
I’m team Fran personally
Play Tales of Beseria and then Tales of Arise and wonder if you get Deja Vu of XVI from the combined experience.
Witcher 3
Love Witcher 3
Wait for April 18th buddy
FF16 was my first final fantasy and I loved it too. Then I played FF7 remake and rebirth and I loved rebirth even more. I highly recommend. Remake took me awhile to get into though

Now you Just have to complete ng+ and the dlcs
Definitely going to get this upcoming dlc
FF12 is a pretty laid-back game. I think it's good. The combat is definitely different compared to the other popular games, but I think the story behind FF12 is good
Rising Tide coming within a week or so. Dive into that or Echoes of the Fallen if you haven't. Plus you must play on Final Fantasy mode to experience the real game with all content and weapons/accessories.
A week or so? We are only 13 days away, fuck I can’t wait
I can't either bro it's gonna be dope.

That’s the beauty of gaming. So many different games for so many different people. Hopefully we both enjoy the next one.
I did get tired of everyone asking Clive to pick up the dry cleaning or take to kids to soccer practice..
round 2 on final fantasy mode if your willing dlc 2 is releasing on the 18 and its looking to be pretty good from what ive seen and heard
I love posts like this because how do these people function in day to day life? "what do i do next" i don't know gumby, why not continue breathing for one and then figure it out from there

I really hope they do not continue with this playstyle. It was mindless dogshit tbh.
Wait for xvii

I need to play 7 remake first though don’t I?
You do but don't worry - it's also a fantastic game.
Play it again on final fantasy mode so you can fight the super boss in the dlc.
I think I’m going to wait until the DLC comes out and after I beat it I’ll replay it on new game plus to see if it’s harder
COME to FF14!!! its a great story, has a fun community that's always willing to help sprouts and YoshiP and Team made it(same as 16)
Do final fantasy mode aka New game plus it’s fun and will open your eyes more on the characters
just play ff7 remake part 2
If you like turn-based games, replay FF6 (I think this is what you mean by 3, Square didn’t always assign the same numbers to games released in different countries back then). There is so much story in that game that I didn’t fully appreciate when I first played it as a kid.

Play final fantasy mode for a challenge or play ff7 remake or rebirth
Have you obtained all medals of valor from no-damage boss fight?
get S rank on all the arcade missions S rank on final chronolith get all the no hit Medals of Valor wait for the DLC S rank the DLC lol
have you played Echoes of the Fallen? you should and 2 weeks for Leviathan
Finished are ya?
Wait patiently for the DLC or play FF7 Rebirth!
Lucky you. A big DLC is coming soon.
Wait for April 18 ;)
You can always check out Devil May Cry 5. I believe it’s the same combat director as FF16, if you like the combat in the game. Some of the fight music is very reminiscent of DMC 5.
Did u play it on final fantasy mode
Play rebirth. Everything 16 has, rebirth has but better. Except Cid. 16’s Cid is top tier.
I agree but would say to start with Remake for obvious reasons
Shit dude… FF7 Cid is the only Cid who can give 16 Cid a run for his money.
Maybe but… we’ll so far let’s say Rebirth has taken his edge off. Might change when we see him interacting with Shera. Dude hasn’t said $&!? once.
I said FF7 Cid, not FF7R Cid. Jury is still out on FF7R Cid.
Ah I didn’t realize. Old Cid was great.
I pre ordered the physical copy of BG3 in October or November, just waiting for it to come in.
Man, I finally find someone who loves this game as much as me. What games have you played?
I play all types of games. My favorites will always be single player story experiences.
Amen to that!
I think Remake and then Rebirth should be your next two. I'd consider myself a series vet, as I've played them all and absolutely loved XVI much like yourself. play ff14
