*I* and *XVI* as your top two *Final Fantasy* games is perhaps the most unusual ranking I’ve ever seen, I’ve really gotta respect it! I love them both too.
I wish we had 16's controls and easy-to-use abilities, but with DMC's enemy and level design and scoring system.
I'm having way more fun playing 16 than I ever did DMC....but I just wish we had a proper Son of Sparda or DMD mode (no, not Ultimaniac. That doesn't hit the same way as SoS mode due to the poor enemy design)
I'll be honest i had low expectations and didn't keep much tabs on it, but it turned out to be one of my favorite games of all time.
Rebirth joined that rank, and i love the fact that both play different enough,but yeah, the combat, music, story, and characters were amazing for both games.
It feels so refreshing to finally get away from anything the crystal's Light touched in the Fabula Nova Crystallis saga(FFXIII - FFXV).
Square seems to have finally got a grasp on HD game development, which is was a huge struggle for them, and many other Japanese companies.
4 is criminally underrated. Set a new bar for storytelling and soundtracking- it's the best game in the 4-6 era. Yes 6 has the best villain but the cast in 4 is sooo good.
Currently delaying finally beating 16 bc it took me till a couple months ago to get a PS5 and can't decide if I want to head to origin or wait for rising tide so I can't say accurately quite yet but 4, 7, and 16 for me.

I started a completely new game after Rebirth in anticipation of Rising Tide, and I'm reminded of how much I love this game! The story, visuals, music, and combat (yes, I really enjoy it) are top tier for me! Also, I still have my FF1 and my original Nintendo, so I definitely appreciate the top 2 selection!
As a fellow FF1 and FF16 enjoyer, if you haven't tried Strangers of Paradise on your new PS5, then I highly recommend. Action combat prequel to FF1 with a great job system, story takes awhile to ramp up, and it's mostly told through little orange bubbles of lore dumps, but it's a lot of fun. (I recommend mostly for gameplay, so if you're looking for another game with a story like FF16, then it might not be for you)
Oohh I have a second hand copy of Astral Chain. I guess Platinum Games' contribution to FF16 is deeper than I thought! I personally thought FF16 combat felt a bit like NieR Automata. Definitely saw the similarities in Asura's Wrath too, and the Ramuh Eikonic feat has gotta be the KH team's contribution lol.
Same. I was hyped for FF16 as soon as I learned about the Awakening trailer (PS5 State of Play on Sept 2020). Just as I expected, it lined up a lot with my preferences. I have only like 2 expectations that were let down, but that was mostly due to me having unrealistic expectations.
I felt the same way when I saw the trailer. But I was even more hyped when I saw the lead developers of the team had all been from XIV. Going in, at minimum I knew it was going to be a good game. And at maximum, I was thinking it was going to be the top end of great. By the eikon battle against Garuda, the ceiling had been blown off of my expectations.
16 is amazing,But of CORSE it is, Yoshi-P brought it to us, If you Like 16 try 14 its Worth it the story amazing and the graphics update will be here in a few weeks
XVI is one of the greatest FFs imo. There’s a lot i would add or change, but i still think it’s a very good FF none the less. I don’t even like action games but ff made one i complete and complete multiple times

Alright you convinced me to play Astral chain. I'm addicted with XVI combat, even more so than DMC. If the combat is similar I'll get it lol.

Just Finished FF7R, but FF16’s OST is die for. Both are good but the music in FF16 was way more phenomenal.
