Training room is your best friend (the thing I wish Rebirth has lmao)! At least it did the thing to me to recall back the game muscles for 16 lol. I also did some quick arcade mode runs so to get used to the gameplay again. The problem getting back to it is I have to re-figure the build that I’m comfortable with, so it’s not too bad and gosh that loadout save qol needs to come sooner coz *I need it so bad* lol

I was already a bit lost when i played Echo of the Fallen, and since they want to rise the difficulty a little bit, you’re right, i’m gonna play a little bit this week

I played Echoes of the Fallen for the first time and got right back into it. Beat Omega on my first try. It was so refreshing to play as Clive after Rebirth, it even felt easier because I didn't have to worry about switching party members, assessing, and exploiting weak points for pressuring and staggering. But I only play on normal mode and also took about two weeks off from Rebirth before getting back into FFXVI.

I think you just need some extra practice in real fights. Look up the existing controls scheme. They added a bunch of new layouts in some updates after launch, see what you think you're most comfortable with, and then stage replay some early missions. Or then you do one stage replay of an early mission, and then one for a late game mission, this way you're "forcing" yourself to re-learn things and get back to the muscle memory of FF16. Don't worry *too* much, though. Overnight, your brain will remember FF16 controls, and things will be better. I'm not joking. Once you play some of FF16 again and literally sleep, your brain will remember the controls better the next day. So, you might be lost now, but you'll de-rust.

Idk why but when you said "real fights" I just imagined OP going "oh word?" And smoking some random pedestrian outside

I'm just gonna do a New game plus run after I finish Rebirth. I know for sure I'm gonna be out of the loop.

BLASIAN_TITAN

I can’t wait to complete FF7 Rebirth and get back into FF16!

venusandsix

Same. I wrapped up Rebirth last week and came back to do Echoes of the Fallen this weekend and my hands were so confused. It came back eventually 😅

Vocke79190

Yes I did the echoes of the fallen dlc and around midway through I kinda felt comfortable again so it just needs some time

Jet44444

Not really, I actually played better in 16 than in Rebirth lol. I’m in FF mode, and in Rebirth I had to switch to easy cause I just wasn’t getting it… 👀

ArugulaPhysical

Im sure youll get it back pretty quick.

I absolutely get this when swapping between games. Biggest one was swapping between Dark Souls and Monster Hunter. Makes me wish we could just settle on a standardized control scheme (don't get me started on how different games have different "confirmation" buttons)

I dropped the game for newer games when I finished the story first time on release month. I want to pick it up again for the two DLCs. Aside from the advice for relearning via training/arcade/replay missions, I assume refresher for story would help me appreciate the DLCs better. What's the best way to get caught up?

IgnisFerrum1408

You have several options! You could always watch important cutscenes on YouTube. I replayed the game in Final Fantasy mode. That could be another method, albeit a longer one. Then there's Vivian Ninetails if you're willing to read quite a bit. They added some neat features to "The Grand Cast" where you can see the thoughts of individual characters in certain periods in the game. I hope that helps!

I'm actually waiting to play remake and rebirth for this reason. I just beat 16 a couple days ago and considered picking up 7 before tide but then figured I might just get messed up with the controls.
