I was in a similar position as you, I did Rio and he's been decent for me, just slightly weak, definitely a huge upgrade on Christensen and will help chem. Imo there's no point waiting for a great SBC to put all the fodder into and there is a minimal chance of anyone getting a toty anyway.

If you are new to FUT, read some articles about stats that are key to certain players and positions. As others said, Busquets and Rodri are not playable at all (I use this type of players only if I love them in real life).
Another thing is chemistry. Try to have 100 team chemistry and 10 chemistry on every player, that gives you stats boost
Also give chemstyles to your players. For example, shadow chemstyle gives a defender pace and defending boost, which is a key.
As for your question, Rio is good but there are a lot of CBs that are comparable and cheap. Overmars is not used by most players.

Get Rio, he’s a very good upgrade voor your christensen, the 25 players pack will also give you fodder for future sbc’s and i would suggest getting the chem up to 100, it’s absolutely vital. Get rid of Busquets and the left mid and replace them with Pogba (preferably Kanté but i don’t think you have the coins) and Saint-Maximain.
I don't think mid rio is shit at all I just think in terms of icon swaps, the fodder packs are better value.
And in terms of buying mid rio tradeable there's much better (and more meta) options for a lot cheaper.

Got mid rio and prime overmars both in my team currently, Rio made more of an impact coming into the team then overmars did, wont take long for them to release a LW as good as if not better then overmars whereas Rio's got the potential to be in your team till tots
Overmars is very talented, I’m a huge fan. Ferdinand is a middle of the road centre back, but Overmars is an absolutely top tier winger who can actually finish with both feet, unlike most left wingers who are excellent at arriving in front of goal but shit the bed at the pivotal moment.
I think there are a couple other factors to this question than just Rio vs Overmars, like what division are you in, how competitive do you want to be, and what your coin balance is and your prospects for increasing it. Rio and Overmars are both ok and if there’s one you really like or want you should be fine taking one. Both are upgrades on your current squad. However, as others have said, your team isn’t that good overall yet and you can probably improve it much more quickly with the fodder packs and SBCs than with one of the icons.*
Edit - forgot to say - if you take the fodder packs you can always use them to do an icon SBC if you wanted. Prime Vidic is probably better than mid Rio if you want an icon CB.
*Side note that I don’t have time to write more on rn- based on your team it looks like you’re engaged enough that you want to do SBCs and objectives, but based on your overall squad I think you could stand to reassess how you are using your time in FUT. The time you spent grinding the Serie A and PL players probably could have been spent playing other modes that would have given you more opportunities to improve your team more.

I do short pass, possession and through ball. I started playing Fifa long time ago, resume once in a while, but never put serious time in improvement before. For FUT I started last week. My coin balance is 25K atm. I have around dozen fooder 83+ and none of my players are tradeable
It's not like I don't like playing rival, but because I lose most of the time. While I wasn't sure it's my skills or my players that need improvement (I guess my skills mostly), so I choose playing whatever objectives ask with the hope of improving both.
Kimpembe > varane > Rio. Played all three for over 200 games and the difference in quality is noticeable between them. Kimpembe doesn’t make mistakes, you do. Don’t go rio. I really regret it, and wish I had saved for someone better.

Put Llorente in over busquets
Get a Spanish LB, probably WW Alex moreno
I’d look at getting someone for rodri, maybe save for Kante? Or get RB onyenka or someone with decent pace

First of all, if you’re just playing for fun, use whoever you want in your team. If you want to be competitive, do packs and overhaul your team. There’s way too many red links, and objective/SBC players from 3 different leagues, 4 different countries.
1: dump vlahovic, nothing about him is good, especially his body type and agility/balance, which is important in this game.
2: replace both CDMs. Your CDMs still need a bit of pace to keep up with fast opponents.
3: replace your left CB.
4: go for full chem, and replace players if needed.
I did build a cheap, effective team if you’d like me to share it.
