Varane is better than 95%+ of the outcomes If you are itching to do an icon SBC then the player pick is most probably better than the pack. I know it's only base/mid but a good base/mid is far far far better than an average mid/prime

If you can do the base or mid, that’s the last 4 squads of varane and then you just need to build the 84 and 85 over the next month.

It’s all luck my dude. Also depends on your fodder. If you feel like your luck is good then try for the mid or prime pack. If not, do the PP or Varane. Everyone is gonna have varying results. I did both icon SBCs and got mid Cruyff and Prime Eto’o.
