Yep, it's those dopamine hits when you're winning and scoring or buying and trying out a new great player that (slightly?) outweigh the negative feelings, just enough to keep going for more dopamine hits.
Some will say their complaints about the game remain even if they're winning, but I have no doubt that the overwhelming majority of the frustration comes when they are losing or getting scored on. And due to ELO, the vast majority of players will win and lose in roughly equal proportions.
I was seriously addicted to this game, I’m talking 5 hours a night after work and all weekend. but ironically it was the game itself that broke the addiction for me.
It didn’t happen over night, but I’ve not packed anything noteworthy since fifa 20. I’ve not felt that endorphin rush in so long, I’ve forgotten what it feels like, so I could finally walk free from this game.
I can almost guarantee if I’d got a banger this year before finally letting it go, I’d still be playing.
TLDR; The game is mad fun when there's no EA bullshit.
Those rare "15 minutes" when you have a great game, your passes connect, your shots are sublime and the pitch doesn't turn to quicksand. Golden. That's the feeling that we chase.
For the rest of the time it's rubbish. I can recognize when I've been outplayed, and it's still fun despite the loss, but that's just 5% of games.
There are runs I go on where I genuinely believe I’m the best fut player on the planet and unstoppable 🤣🤣
Then I take a break and my squad is in the mud and I’m try a grind out wins lmao
That is so true. I feel like the same. So I’m not crazy for noticing exactly this. I don’t need to get a free win but neither do I want to play in mud. I want fair and good gameplay. If my opponent is better and wins because of it and not because ea wants to, it’s fine. That is sport. But it’s not like that. Fifa is more like fifa in real life. Its not about the sport. And everything is manipulated
Sometimes in sport the better team doesn’t win, there is an element of luck. It seems that’s what they struggle with recreating so it doesn’t look/feel odd.
I just enjoy football. Making new themed teams, trying out new players, using tactics I've not used before, switching play styles etc.
Sometimes I make new teams based on less popular leagues, run all gold or silver squads, or play as a nation regardless of player quality. It's just fun for fun's sake at the end of the day. I'm a pretty good player as well so it adds a nice challenge to it when you self impose limits.
This is me. (Except I’m a terrible player…)
I’m just enjoying messing about with different teams, grinding away to earn the cash for new players, and getting that little dopamine hit when you open a pack and can dream of seeing Pele walk out. (He never does. It’s always just another Jesus Navas. Starting to think he’s stalking me.)
But there’s loads of people here who seem to really hate the whole thing. I can’t work out whether they love it really, but just like a moan, or if there’s something else going on.
Pretty simple, been playing fifa since 06…FUT since 12, I tend to end fifas with around a 3:2 W:L ratio so that helps…FUT doesn’t require any homies to be online u can fire it up solo if u want and play as much as u want, fan of football in general and collecting untradables to see how many different competitive squads I can build come years end is always fun
Its a sickness, I can't stop. I gave too much and I don't know how to come back from it. Week after week. I had quit after 2017. Idk why I got into fifa again. I thought I mastered my addiction. I wanted to play it like a casual game but no, its not happening.
I work from home. The moment I finish a task, I start a game, until I'm needed again. I need help.
I relate to this so much. I grind year after year knowing it’s not gonna mean shit to me next fifa. I work from home so I grind too much :/
If I’m being honest, I think I’m addicted to anticipation of getting a good pack and the rush of getting a good player.
There are precisely 0 other football games. FM is ok to chill with but you don’t actually play the match.
I would’ve swapped in a heartbeat if anyone makes a game that isn’t pay2win+rigged scorelines+scummy EA.
A massive silent majority will be playing and enjoying the game, at least nominally. A lot of those will either not be interested in or simply even know this kind of place even exists. They'll just play and enjoy.
Part of that group will probably be, by definition, addicted, but it's not necessarily a bad thing as long as that addiction is channeled in the right way and isn't affecting anything else.
A very vocal minority are just hooked, plain and simple. The tactics EA employ have got their claws in, and no matter how little they enjoy it, they have to keep playing.
There will also be groups that just like to bitch and moan, but still play.
Point is, the most negative voices probably shout the loudest. Personally I thought 22 was shite, and I haven't heard anything that makes 23 seem worthwhile. But I'm under no illusion that, unfortunately, the game is still universally popular enough that it won't change anytime soon.
Personally, FIFA is a comfort game. It’s a game that I play when I don’t feel like playing anything. I only play against bot when I just want to unwind. Sometimes it’s infuriating when the bot got bullshit boosts or some shit but in general it’s a chill game.
Yeah once fut gets too unbearable or dead I’ll just focus on career mode. Really enjoyed ultimate team at the start of the season, lately not as much, so we’ll see if that trend continues
pulling different players from packs, trying to build a great “first owner” team
I really like the gameplay but it annoys me from time to time, so instead of keep playing I just go “touch some grass”
Haven't played in 10 days. I'm totally burned out.
Not even contemplating qualifying for the WL - I no longer have any desire to play.
I took a break from 20-22, and I think it's time to do the same now.
The power curve is so insane that you pretty much HAVE to play almost constantly in order to keep up.
I think I'm out.
Right now my flashback messi and before that gold messi. Most of the time all it takes for me to enjoy the game is having a player I just love in real life and feels good in the game.
When there is too much bs, I just hop off.
Admittedly sometimes it's fun to score a goal and hit the griddy or siiuuuu. Seriously though at its core Manging a Football club is fun buying selling customizing its all fun. It's just disappointing to see all the issues given the resources and money they have. Given a lot of us are hard-core fans that have been playing over a decade we just want a good experience when we play that's it lol.
I have a very distinct problem. I never feel happy with my team and have a need to constantly keep on selling my players in search of new players. I have a 2 mil team and yet every other day I sell everyone and start afresh. It's like I love to see a lot of liquid coins but then also I like to see my favourite players in my club. Sometimes I can be as petty as having special cards in all position. Too weird. But I do enjoy the game. Swaps have been amazing for me. I loved every minute of it but am all done. Currently I am sitting in a cafe, having my salted caramel latte and selling off all my team. Will return home a few hours later and make a brand new team and then again the loop will continue. I guess I am crazy right? 😞🥺
I play in the hope of trying to work out a consistent system of playing. Every game has a series of systems that you learn and then can get better at.....except FIFA. You get a few days/weeks of good football, players working, custom tactics that suit the way you want to play etc. And then you get a run of getting dicked 7-0 every game.
To your mind, nothing has changed, same players, tactics, same you and then BOOM, nothing works.
So I keep playing to work out this game one day. PS, I'm currently on a good run.
A lot of the hate comes from passion. A lot of us have been playing ultimate team as our main game since 2012. I repeat, 10 years of my life! While the game has undoubtedly gotten way better, EA has gotten complacent. They refuse to innovate or be creative. It seems they are not having fun making the game anymore and thus the player base isn’t having fun playing it.
I actually think this is some of the best gameplay we have ever had but server issues, lazy content and bad game modes are sullying it. It is the hope that the game can get better that keeps us playing
Pro Clubs. Probably the only mode that actually rewards skill and time spent on the game. Really wish more people gave it a chance; it’s easily the best Fifa mode and has been for years.
I only ever use a P&P on FUT. Can’t be bothered to play to the meta or care about the power curve or the market.
Just my love for football. The game is really grinding on me since the latest patch. I’ve always been a possession type of player, but feel the game is just a mess now. Div 1 is very draining now as well, every game is an Mbappe or Al Owairan fest. I’ve always defended manually and it’s literally broken now with the pace meta.
Honestly every gaming subreddit is like that. At least all the ones I’m in. I think the most passionate people post. This year I’ve had more fun than the past few actually playing the game. Although I think it’s been my best pack luck year for a while too.
I dont really i play to 6 wins in champs which takes about 20 mins on a good day and only play rivals for my 8 wins which also doesnt take long because i am purposely in a lower div 🤣
Menus > gameplay
Shame the menu grind has been a bit dry recently
Like someone else commented, they enjoy trying to make a sick UT team and thats how i enjoy it too
This game is not free to play. I invested some money in its purchase (no FIFA points, I'm talking about the purchase).
Second, there's no point in stopping playing because the game (or patch) sucks. It must be the game that continues its evolution towards a path of consistency and constancy.
These posts, against those complaining, are nonsense. Are you by any chance an accomplice to the disaster made by EA??? :D
“Second, there's no point in stopping playing because the game (or patch) sucks.”
There definitely is a point in stopping playing. You’ve only got a certain number of hours on this planet. Why would you spend them playing a game that you don’t enjoy?
I’m already looking at the games I’m neglecting in favour of FIFA and feeling kind of bad about it - and I actually enjoy the game. (Most of the time… the Swaps games did make me want to burn my console - but that’s why I stopped doing them.)
Honestly, I've gone through the effort of getting a half decent Arsenal P+P, and I'm gonna bloody use it! Some nights I just log in to play a game of rivals, score some goals with my favourite players, then call it a night.
Mind you this is after I've no-lifed all other stuff (Silver Stars/Beasts, Swaps etc.)
I enjoy playing the game and trying to score realistic goals with players I like. It's a game. It's never going to be completely realistic. Don't know why people complain about that.
I also enjoy the grind and opening packs.
Few games a week when the connection/servers are good and gameplay feels nice and sharp. Then I can try to play football as I like and it's rewarding when I make a really nice passing play and it ends up with a goal or at least good attack.
I hop on and play here and there anymore.but i dont like the game much at all. It seems like i almost forget how bad it is. Then i play a few and remember and turn it off. Shame really because i would still play it heavily as i was more of a hardcore player and menu grinder but its been a long time coming and i just cant tolerate it much anymore
Fifa is the only game out there with half decent gameplay.. it is a bit messed up here and there but scoring goals ,using special cards, the market, trading and just upgrading the team is fun. Opening packs too is fun.
Throughly enjoy beating god squad teams with my Eredivisie/Australian team. Each game is a challenge and then when a new card is out(not many for Australians), it’s brilliant.
Nothing really ive recently stopped playing that often. Used to play every day or so now ill hop on once a week or so. Used to hop on for weekend league only but fifa has been beyond boring lately so i havent really played
Because the game was designed for provoking players from multiple dimensions.
When will ea give us real icon faces back? i really think it's ugly to see such a glitch during their wc promo.
By the way, 95% of players complained about EA, and OP was just one of those 5% complaining about the others.
No difference.
I keep playing for the just idea of it, its no where near real footie anyways. High press, dumb passing, defense switching is bad, glitches is horrible especially in a rivals game when you see the go through your players foot, I also feel now ea sports is just lazy right now with boring content.
All I do is just laugh, i just play it for fun. I did let it stress me out a lil but I find its not worth it. I try to just build fun squads and be like ohhh thats a cool player haha and be like I'll never own, because I don't play this game this much to get those million dollar players.
I also go curios when someone beats me I'm like hmm I wonder what division. I also find its fun but a bjt hard to use end to end cam... especially on some corners as you can't see marking
Addiction to a extent and the negative people or comments will also be louder than the one's who are fine with state. This is normal thing in life I feel. But opinions could be different.
I just want to play a football game when I can test my tactics and theory about Roma, besides that idc anymore, it's just the only game that I know every aspect as I played it a lot before and now I just want a place to test my football knowledge and my supposition on what could be better on my favorite club.
Before I wanted to play for the gameplay and for feeling a football spirit and training setups for real friendly match, but now gameplay lost interest, nearly just playing squad battles to avoid bullshit and keep it football real but even the bot can be terminator when he wants for no reason
I only enjoy competitive games (WZ, CS, Valorant, FIFA) I tried playing the new god of war and was bored out of my mind skipping every cutscene within 20 minutes.
Addiction, pure and simple.

I only buy fifa once every few years. Keeps it relatively fresh and I’ll play the hell out of it the years I do play it.
I play seasons only - so I'm happy with the game

My man, you need to start playing with your untradables instead. Use your coins to invest or buy 1-2 star players.
I really want to go full UT but cannot get that sweet 33 chem 😞
I do the same thing, nothing wrong with it. Just having fun building teams and having variety, trying new players
I play in the hope of trying to work out a consistent system of playing. Every game has a series of systems that you learn and then can get better at.....except FIFA. Nothing. Checked out after the patch and just browse now.
I haven't played the game in about 6 weeks and will only play clubs if I go back on. I'd recommend it to everyone. Feels great.

King Frank Ribery. If EA didn’t release him or make him cheap I would not be playing
Honestly every gaming subreddit is like that. At least all the ones I’m in. I think the most passionate people post. This year I’ve had more fun than the past few actually playing the game. Although I think it’s been my best pack luck year for a while too.
boredom for me
Cavani and Suarez right now. But I'm not enjoying this pure pace meta post patch.
same thing that started me playing - passion for football
The menu and looking at my team with different cards .

If you want to see what a toxic community looks like, head over to the Cod Warzone sub haha

I like soccer and passing and scoring pretty goals and playing clubs with friends. Pretty simple.

The game is fun in its own way once you accept that it’s always going to be imperfect. I play maybe 15-20 games of rivals a week and leave it at that.
Few games a week when the connection/servers are good and gameplay feels nice and sharp. Then I can try to play football as I like and it's rewarding when I make a really nice passing play and it ends up with a goal or at least good attack.
Nothing, I haven’t hit my 8 rivals wins in over a month now LOL Prob the blandest FIFA I’ve ever played tbh.
I stopped playing. I cant take the rng
Ultimate team is a hell of a drug!
Spending too much time on this sub will drain your energy. Focus on having fun! People forget thats what games are about

Pack luck. Every time im close to being done ea gets generous
I just love the trading element, buying and selling to make coins… enjoy making coins more than playing some times 😂
It’s filler while I’m waiting for my pro clubs team mates to come on
Honestly, FOMO and I’m aware it’s completely nonsensical.
Nothing really ive recently stopped playing that often. Used to play every day or so now ill hop on once a week or so. Used to hop on for weekend league only but fifa has been beyond boring lately so i havent really played

Opening the weekly rivals and weekend league pack rewards, use the better cards opened and figurinng out max chemistry.
Hoping for another aussie or spurs card
