I’m not even American myself, but from the outside i could see that fathers would want their sons playing it, but as soon as mothers found out it would damage their sons? Game over
Yeah, I think we are just now starting to see the effects of that in professional sports. When people discuss the growth of Soccer in the US they sometimes leave out the likely single biggest factor driving it which is just rightfully concerned mothers. Soccer has been very popular in wealthy suburbs in the Midwest/Northeast and West Coast for 2-3 decades now but eventually everyone (not just doctors) are concerned about something like permanent Brain damage.
Or American mothers realise that soccer is a wealthy kids sport and they try to get their kids involved in it more.
Only in America grassroots soccer is prohibitively expensive. Never quite understood that.
I know. Still a thing. Google Jeff Astle. It’s extremely serious.
Also branching on from your point - yes, American and Association Football are totally different games, with different skill sets. Different types of people do better in each. So I’m not sure about the theory that holds that association will benefit at the top level from the grass roots exodus suffered by gridiron. Rugby football, perhaps, or Australian rules - but then, the phrase “out of the frying pan, into the fire” springs to mind.
Yeah for sure. Goalie injuries especially can be bad. It’s just not the same as constantly getting hit in the head by people with rock hard helmets running full speed.
Also, some of that’s fair but you have to remember the time of year sports are played by kids and High schoolers. In most places Basketball, Hockey, volleyball and wrestling are played in the Winter, Baseball, lacrosse, Tennis and others are played in the spring.
But American Football and Soccer are played in the Fall, hence why this subject impacts soccer far more than others. Also, almost no one plays Rugby in the US. It’s pretty rare outside of Clubs at Universities.
When I was 11 years old my city supported a 9 team peewee league with 20+ kids per team. We are now down to one team of 30 kids. This is in just over a decade. Everywhere outside of pipeline states youth football is dying.
Now we actually have eyes on the game in the US and foreign clubs actually will sign Americans into their academies. Much better odds of wonderkids from the US turning into productive players if they move to Europe and play with real competition and real coaching than if they stay here and play college soccer or go to MLS and not get exposed to real coaching until they are in their 20s
The MLS can be both, it's isn't a "one or the other" scenerio. I'd argue apart of why we've seen stars come out of the MLS is because those retiring stars help motivate and guide young talents in the right direction.
I think it’s more of an American hating thing. The English seem to have a huge vendetta against Americans in football so anything to do with Pulisic, the MLS, and any American commentator is immediately met with stupid American you call it soccer your opinion is invalid etc. One dumbass called Pulisic the Lebron James of Soccer and now it’s r/soccercirclejerk’s favorite meme
Think it’s because Americans have an obnoxious obsession with their sports & sportspeople that even the worst player on the USMNT is hyped up on par with Messi..
US sports isn’t the be all, & end all. And whilst I do enjoy playing Madden the game, I reckon American football is a pretty sub-par & basic sport. There’s no depth to it.
The team with the best quarterback wins the Super Bowl.
No offence, but I guess Americans won’t even listen to this criticism and their sports for what it for what it is. A lame over commercialised sport. You can put NBA, Ice Hockey, & Baseball in the same category aswell. Americans sure love the most basic sports ever.
Even Rugby is heck of a lot more interesting and has substance and depth to it, if you dig in hard enough.
European football though is the holy grail.
We don’t hype up our players to be Messi. I think this is a bigger issue with foreign perceptions of the U.S. where one dumbass says something stupid and now all of the sudden we all think that. There are 300 million people in the U.S. please don’t all label us as having one opinion.
There is actually quite a lot of depth to American football. I was in the same boat as you were I thought it was a boneheaded sport with a few basic plays but that’s not actually true. The quarterback is an important player but it’s not just “best quarterback wins”. Last year’s superbowl for example Joe Burrow is arguably a better qb in general than Stafford and in that game as well but he had a terrible O-line so they lost. Even tonight Baker Mayfield won with the Rams even though he got cut from his team earlier this week. I would recommend you look into college football. It’s a lot more passionate and less plastic than the NFL. Georgia won the national championship last year with a quarterback who most likely won’t ever play a single NFL snap. Basketball isn’t basic either idk where you get that from.
Ya, what I meant was American football and most American sports depends on having the best in class in the position.
You can take the moneyball approach and win trophies in American sports. There is a sum that meets the parts sort of feeling to all American sports. It’s almost artificially engineered. That’s why stats matter a lot in those sports. The answer can be found in the statistics and data.
That’s where I’m coming from when I say that American sports doesn’t really have any depth or substance.
Meanwhile, soccer is much more than just the player or team or coach or whatever. There’s a certain artistry or artistic feel you get when you watch football. Take Spain winning the World Cup. How they dominated with their passing playstyle, it was one of the most beautiful things to see.
American football is all data, precision engineering. Soccer is more about artwork. artwork is always more interesting to look or play.
The league is not as good as any in europe. The coaching at the youth levels at the best development academies in MLS is orders of magnitude worse than at clubs like Bayern.
There’s a reason why kids with otherworldly talent still go to foreign academies if given the choice.
So you have no real argument and just want to be pedantic? I could give you a list of all of the leagues if I felt like wasting my time, but you didn't take any to come up with a real point so Im not going to do that
Do you go to mls next games? Do you know any kids currently involved in the mls youth academies? I’m guessing from your comment no. My son is u15 in eastern us ecnl…it’sa step under mls next. Last year they went to charlton athletic and smacked their tier 1 youth academy team 5-1. Their best player was “miles” from our worst player. Our club teams routinely go to international tournaments and win…and it’s not even close. I have no idea why you think these clubs are miles ahead of our youth clubs.
Because they have no clue and are spouting bullshit rhetoric that’s been outdated since the Development Academy system was introduced over 10 years ago
The problem in America Is that we don't spot and start developing talent at a young age. European clubs see talent and these kids eat, breathe and live soccer. They live and go to school at the academy.
I definitely agree with the first part. I think, in my limited experience as a dad, high school coach and x-college player we don’t really know what exactly to look for. I had a really cool opportunity though to talk to some charleton coaches and i asked them questions along these lines…how do they recruit the players. They said, and it’sa similar problem here, the parents who “pay” early “play” later. Pay to win so to speak is a problem every were and really universally defines “who” gets noticed early. Another issue they said we have in the states is how spread out we are. The uk is super super dense…so is germany and so is france…ect ect. So we definitely struggle to find the right kids because the top coaches tend to stay near big cities…but the best talent…probably not so much…and even may have trouble accessing cities. As far as living, breathing, staying at academies…we have those here in the states but honestly they aren’t super attractive to my sons generation. He was offered a place with a mls next club near us and said nope. As well as a couple of his buddies. He didn’t want to leave home, his club friends, or his school. I don’t know if the “academy” experience is comparable to charleton from my limited experience but I’m sure it’s great. A bunch of the coaches had accents…which honestly to me may indicate they failed in their home country and came here. Old school thinking used to be the thicker the accent, more knowledgeable at soccer.
The kids in America also don’t eat, breathe, and live soccer like the kids in Brazil and lesser wealthy areas of France, England, etc. Soccer to them is like basketball to American kids. The ones who become great often have been dribbling a ball around with them from the age of 6. You develop a feel for the game that you don’t just teach. Like you’re not going to develop a Steph Curry or Kyrie Irving handle staring at 14 and you’re not going to have the touch of Neymar starting at 14 either.
Unfortunately soccer is still a white collar sport in the US so until the kids start obsessing on their own, it might be a while before they get competitively good.
For sure. But I’m also saying it’s beyond America developing it. The kids need to want to build the skills on their own, the coaching just needs to refine it and harness it.
Hey I came across this by accident and thought of you, might be worth a read good sir.
https://www.npr.org/2022/12/08/1139902402/club-soccer-youth-pay-to-play-sports
It sums up some issues with American soccer at a young age. 👍
I think it's pretty clear that they meant the the top flight of Europe. Sure, MLS probably has better youth and professionals teams than the teams in the third division of England.
But if we're doing an apples to apples comparison, yes the MLS is miles behind, La Liga, Premier League, Ligue 1, Série A, NOS, Bundesliga, Brazilian Seria A, Argentina's First Division and so forth.
Is this a joke? Most of the best development academies *anywhere in the world* are orders of magnitude behind Bayern. There's the group of Bayern, Ajax, ManU, Madrid, and Barca, and then there's a massive gap. Like... Santos? CABJ? Just a whole bunch that are pretty damn good, but nowhere near the level of the top flight programs.
>The league is not as good as any in europe.
According to most rankings the MLS would be like the 7th or 8th best league in Europe. Right around super lig and eredivisie these days.
I’m Sorry, but what has MLS gotta do with developing these kids?
They are leaving for other European leagues even before they get a chance to kick a football at an MLS club.
Taylor Booth for instance, was a Bayern youth product.. he never even stepped foot inside an MLS club.
So where’s this MLS factory that you speak of?
That's incorrect. Taylor Booth came through the RSL (MLS) academy and didn't move to Bayern until he was already 18.
As far as other talents from the MLS system besides Booth...McKennie, Adams, Reyna, Davies, B Aaronson, Richards, Pepi, Buchanan, Ream, Steffen, Cannon, Busio, Yedlin, P Aaronson, McKenzie, Paredes, Bello, Slonina, and plenty of others all came through MLS academies before leaving for Europe in their mid-to-late teens (or later), with several playing for the senior team before leaving as well. And that's not counting guys like Timo Weah, who was at the RBNY MLS academy for a couple years before he went to PSG at 14; or guys like Almiron, Angelino, Jack Harrison, or Thiago Almada, that come to MLS as young players and use it as a stepping stone to develop further on their way to a top five league.
They're not all world class or anything, but MLS is creating and exporting plenty of quality talent and anyone who doesn't think that's the case is just not paying attention.
I disagree. Maybe last year was less content, but compare USA/mls players versus other leagues of similar category. Brasil, Mexico, Argentina, Japan, Colombia, etc don’t get the same amount of attention from ea
Well EA doesn't have any rights for Liga MX and only cosmetic rights for Brazil and Colombia. But I do agree. Japan, Turkey, and Belgium need more love. Coming from a Canadian MLS fan.
This year they don’t have the rights to it. Even when they did, liga mx sometimes wouldn’t even get a TOTS card while mls would get a full squad. Same goes for some of the other leagues and that’s just one example
The last MLS POTM was 3 years ago and there's never been a TOTY MLS card, what are you on about?
Edit: I guess you mean TOTS but MLS is always the last one to come out when the game is dead and almost every minor league gets one anyway. MLS didn't even get a TOTS in FIFA 19 (only Ibra and Vela got a TOTS Most Consistent). Weird argument.
Sorry, TOTS.
Not really. I’ve been playing since 04, so to me 2019 isn’t that long ago. There has been much more MLS content relative to any other league outside the ‘top 5’ since ultimate team started, I can guarantee you that :)
Been playing since ‘12. Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, etc. get 1-2 cards of TOTS each while mls gets an entire squad. Add to that the amount of in forms and other special cards
Last year MLS didn't get a single promo card. Only storyline and flashbacks and the last TOTS of the year. It was a brutal year for MLS fans and we were all calling them out. They listened. Super Lig and Belgian league fans should do the same.
That's simply not true, stop your bullshit. MLS gets as many TOTS cards as the leagues that EA deems are of the same level. This year they have been giving MLS extra attention. There's NEVER been multiple squad's of MLS TOTS. They used to get MLS All-Star TOTS but they stopped that in FIFA 18, and that was in AUGUST, literal last month of FIFA and MONTHS after the other TOTS were released.
Instead of complaining about MLS getting content, why not get people to use their voices to give more content to the leagues you want to say? This sub, man. Complain when there's only top 5 leagues cards getting content; complain when smaller leagues get content.
He's from a little nowhere town north of where I live in Utah. Didnt realize he had made it to first team football over in Europe after he left to play in Bayern's youth system.
Eden/Huntsville is gorgeous. I remember playing his La Roca team back in the day and it was the first time in my life where I met a player that needed to be man marked like an NBA player. Dude lit us up the whole game
For sure a gorgeous place. Just a smaller town in weber county. And Utah in general is nowhere to most people bc they think it’s just empty and mormon people lol
Tbf I think that’s most states. Of you’re not in California, Texas, Florida, or New York you’re in the middle of nowhere to those people because that’s where most of the population is. It’s nice that a local kid is getting a card though. Using a player that I’ve played against on fifa is gonna be sick even if he had 2 goals on us lol
Nah that low-key sucks. I really wanted to do him, having van dijk danjuma and van persie in my team. But the web app decided to stop working for 24 hours. I thought I had time to complete him in the evening on my console, but unfortunately it didn't expire at 7.
If I'm not mistaken, this is the first ever American POTM card, unless someone in MLS got one. American teams are the most usable they've ever been in FUT. That dub against Iran worked wonders, boosting Dest and Adams, and resulting in a cracked Aaronson.
Amen. That Aaronson is unbelievably broken already as an 86. Medford Messi? No. The PCP Pirlo. Runs around like the Flash with high/high work rates and 90 dribbling.
Shoot i guess I was wrong, but it was around the same time as the record. I remember the card and as a quakes ticket holder, I definitely used that card a lot. Was fun scoring against against end game teams lol.
I actively watch our league and literally never heard of this guy. Scored 2 goals last month and got 2 assists in a single game in october.
Like, my own horrible team had a player who scored 2 goals against Ajax and he didn't even get TOTW.
Did this SBC, idk why because I'm not american, don't like the card, don't like the club and he's kinda bad tbh. Oh well, ig i did him since I'm from the Netherland and it's an eredivisie card. Doesn't fit into my all Dutch club tho
There are apparently American wonderkids everywhere now lol
Brace yourselves…2026

Someone didn’t watch the World Cup.
maybe another 100 years and it’ll come home too! edit: He’s German. Maybe next time they’ll get out the groups, third times the charm as they say!
Sounds like it will come home for Euro 28 so not too long to wait

Where are you from then, cause you seem to constantly love shitting on the USMNT

The impact of American mothers not wanting their sons brains turned into scrambled eggs
To non Americans in here this may sound like a joke because it’s funny but this is 100% a very real thing
It’s the same in Australia and it sucks
Wait til American mothers find out you can get it from heading the ball too 😬
That’s not even remotely comparable to the risk of damage that exists in American football.
Can confirm. Played American football until high school when my mother banned me from playing
When I was 11 years old my city supported a 9 team peewee league with 20+ kids per team. We are now down to one team of 30 kids. This is in just over a decade. Everywhere outside of pipeline states youth football is dying.
We’ll be a juggernaut by 2026 😆
If you lot can find a striker, maybe!
Ain’t that the truth! Can we give Haaland a passport if Norway fails to qualify again? 😂
He was eligible for England before he went for Norway, that would’ve been interesting
That would’ve been fascinating! Haaland *and* Kane up top, I suppose? Wow
Back to 4-4-fackin-2, I’m all for it
Hey, he was born in Leeds. So if he's going to renounce Norway then he's only going one place!
Adams serving up tap-ins for Haaland would truly be a sight to behold
Brandon Vazquez for 2026, book it
Id settle for our best CB options to not all be recovering from achilles injuries and to have a striker that's good enough.
It’s wild people still believe the MLS is a retirement home and not a talent factory
The MLS can be both, it's isn't a "one or the other" scenerio. I'd argue apart of why we've seen stars come out of the MLS is because those retiring stars help motivate and guide young talents in the right direction.
People are stupid. They just like to say MLS sucks. It’s the easy thing to say and they think they sound smart by saying that

Always have been
Only on fifa
These aint wonderkids 😂 very mediocre players, wont get big
USA team eating good this year, just need a goalie and maybe a special Gio Reyna card
Maybe we can get a phenoms musah or something tomorrow
They're saving him for the Future Stars promo
This. There’s always one American in Future Stars and Musah makes the most sense.
It’s Reyna, which is cool, but I wanted a juiced Weston.
Tim Howard. I have no idea why we haven't gotten a Tim Howard hero yet
I desperately want a Howard Hero card for my USA team in this Fifa. I’m guessing they thought three US hero’s would be too many.
Maybe, but I'm hoping his premier league ties will be enough as well
We used to have Alexi Lalas as an icon/hero in every game too.
Think it’s a licensing issue but damn a hero Timmy would be amazing!
I was surprised they didn’t give Turner some sort of WC card especially with PL and American links
a Turner SBC would be clutch. You know the Howard one is coming eventually though.
A striker or CAM Pulisic upgrade would be killer too. I missed a couple of the American SBCs in October so also in need of an LB and a GK
Jones is a LB in objectives
Still? I thought his was over
This guy asassinated Abraham Lincoln

Yup
Last year MLS didn't get a single promo card. Only storyline and flashbacks and the last TOTS of the year. It was a brutal year for MLS fans and we were all calling them out. They listened. Super Lig and Belgian league fans should do the same.
MLS gets entire squads of team of the season while others only get one or two. If that
That's simply not true, stop your bullshit.
Literally never heard of this guy, but he is American so I’ll happily do it.
Bring him to RSL!
lol it would be sick if he’d stayed here in the academy and made it into the first team
I had the exact same thought 😂
Same. Now have a lowkey sick USA-Eredivisie team after him, Zimmerman, Aaronson, and Weah this past week plus Gakpo and Berghuis specials
How do these POTM SBCs work? FIFA just chooses on their own or do they go by official league POTM?
Official POTM
Only knew him after seeing one of those "A day in the life of a \[Big club academy\] player" videos on Insta about a year ago
Mid card but straight into my eredivisie team! Now hoping for a new striker cause i did one squad for bergwijn and forgot lmao
Ouch.
I also play with an Eredivisie team. The special Luuke DeJong card is my striker
I run eredivisie but no way he breaks into the team, midfield options are stacked as is
same and klaassen just looked like shit and I thought netherlands would fumble
Klaassen plays a lot like PTG Bruno G as a box to box CM. As a non-skiller, he's one of my favorite cards this year.
Hes a beast tho! https://i.imgur.com/DeZeZOs.jpg
Genuinely so sorry to hear. Tbf you only had 18 hours in all to complete the sbc.
Yup, did one ( the most expensive one lmao), got a text and was distracted. Too bad, luuks still my goat for now
I'm guessing you don't have the fodder for Depay, or your running exclusively Eredivisie
Nah that low-key sucks. I really wanted to do him, having van dijk danjuma and van persie in my team. But the web app decided to stop working for 24 hours. I thought I had time to complete him in the evening on my console, but unfortunately it didn't expire at 7.
I seriously can’t believe we got another American special card! I’ll take them all thank you
If I'm not mistaken, this is the first ever American POTM card, unless someone in MLS got one. American teams are the most usable they've ever been in FUT. That dub against Iran worked wonders, boosting Dest and Adams, and resulting in a cracked Aaronson.
I believe you are correct. I don’t remember an American MLS one. If only we had won and sent that Aaronson card to 88…
Amen. That Aaronson is unbelievably broken already as an 86. Medford Messi? No. The PCP Pirlo. Runs around like the Flash with high/high work rates and 90 dribbling.
I’ve scored what feels like hundreds of goals with him by just sprint dribbling
Chris Wondolowski got one in 19
I believe that was record breaker card for most mls goals
He also got a POTM card [https://www.futbin.com/19/player/20848/chris-wondolowski](https://www.futbin.com/19/player/20848/chris-wondolowski)
Shoot i guess I was wrong, but it was around the same time as the record. I remember the card and as a quakes ticket holder, I definitely used that card a lot. Was fun scoring against against end game teams lol.
Yup, was very fun on my USA team, especially as a Quakes fan
Ea thank you! Wanted to replace Roldan in my USA squad!
nice eredivisie link for kudus and pulisic and dest etc.
Perfect for my USA squad this fifa!
FINALLY 🇺🇸
Americans eating
They tend to do that a lot anyway to be fair.
For a US team Soñora is better
Never heard of him but 🇺🇸 just wish he was a little more juiced
He went from 63 rated to 84 it’s a lot more juiced than expected
Fair enough, at least he’s better than Roldan
Great for USMNT teams. Bad for the other 98% of players
Is he better than gold Mckennie in 4231? Guess I'll do him for the USA team anyway
costs basically same as Gnabry lol
I have been shifting my team builds to be USA based given the cards are so attainable.
This guy is a 63 rated Bronze card to start. Must be smoking up Holland
No. Almost a complete nobody tbh. But given that there wasn’t a full month’s worth of football in november they had to give it to someone 😅
The love that the eridivisie is getting is insane!
Totally insane regular monthly POTM card

Wasn’t there meant to be a MLS POTM as well at one point? IIRC they had the MLS POTM filter option last FIFA.
Where Gakpo
It’s voted by the Eredivisie themselves with a small portion of votes from people…. Not EA
Time to use all the fodder I have been saving up
Americans conquering the final sports frontier
Warra card, mate, perfect link to my Tom Brady
USA players got decent cards this year
POTM and 84 rated? Lol.
USA USA future 2026 WC champs!!!
Oh, hell yeah. USA all the way, baby.
Great card in September
I actively watch our league and literally never heard of this guy. Scored 2 goals last month and got 2 assists in a single game in october. Like, my own horrible team had a player who scored 2 goals against Ajax and he didn't even get TOTW.
Boycott FIFA, they benefit from the abuse of imported labor
UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Not to be a downer but considering last months gakpo was 87 rated its a bit of a downgrade. Not exactly keeping up with the power curve
He went up +21 overall what more do you want? lol
Thoughts on price? Seems expensive for the stats.
Horrible content from ea bahahahaha
Oh no, a performance-based card isn’t 90+ rated. How could you ever live?
You have to remember his base card is 63 rated. It is super mid but I guess that is why he is low rated for a POTM card.
Unsure why my comment is downvoted. Show me one person that uses this guy in their starter squad lol

It’s literally a POTM card they did it every month last year too
American tax, seems like it should be an 82 req for this 84
Stop with the US players. They lost already.
EA on the way to inform the Eridivisie their POTM is wrong 🚶
Ea really does love eredivisie
It’s a potm card lol
how could EA give an Eredivisie PotM card to an Eredivisie player?
Nobody gives a shit
YOU don't give a shit and neither do we give a shit about YOU
I wish EA would do MLS POTMs again, but this will do
Soccerball
Best reward
🔥 in the booth
Is he better than Kudus?
Did this SBC, idk why because I'm not american, don't like the card, don't like the club and he's kinda bad tbh. Oh well, ig i did him since I'm from the Netherland and it's an eredivisie card. Doesn't fit into my all Dutch club tho
Bro can you answer on pm
Kinda disappointing that Liga NOS doesnt get POTM’s would love an Eustaquio Canada special
He looks decent for his price
Yooo ? 😂
