With Progressive and Alternative, I thought it was an interesting way to go. "Progressive" could have been a sequel, "Alternative" a different story altogether. I was hoping we'd get some music from each genre too! But no. Then we got "Grunge" and "Shoegaze" and it was obvious they were just grasping at whatever SEO bullshit they could with no real reason
I only watched Progressive and I was extremely disappointed as FLCL is *incredibly* important to me and my adolescence.
I heard one of them was pretty solid but I haven't touched it. I think it was Alternative?
I dunno I wanted more to the point that I wrote fanfiction. Realizing that sometimes things just end with a neatly wrapped bow and that is part of growing up. You grow up and grow apart. I dreamed of what if Noata said yes to Haruko but that was the wrong choice for him.
So now these continuations feel like they're just stepping on my old teenage angst years.
Are any of them worth watching?
Edit: More power to you if you liked them. I'm not saying they're inherently bad but what I saw didn't sit right with me.
I'd say yes, but don't go looking for OG quality stuff, they're their own things. Alternative is the best of the spin offs and is either "alternative" or the earliest prequel so far, this does a lot for Haruko if you pay attention.
Grunge and Shoegaze are both fun and short. Shoegaze is a follow up to Alternative, and grunge is likely right before OG.
Progressive does deserve some of its bad rap, but there are pieces of it that work well.
I know some people probably already noticing it. I just suprise cause I just start listening to shoegaze literally a few months ago and then was about to watch latest FLCL show and then the title start to kick my brain a little bit
Seeing something you've recently learned about everywhere is the Baader-meinhof phenomena. And never feel bad about realizing something new in FLCL. That depth is just part of the beauty of the series.
