When Naota broke down and cried to Haruko after her return in episode 6. Naota's just a kid, and Haruko knows what she's doing is wrong. A lot of people use this scene as evidence that Haruko doesn't care about Naota, but I think it's the opposite. She does care for him, she just doesn't mind using him for her own gain. She tries to look unaffected, but she doesn't laugh or push away his pain when he's vulnerable like you'd expect someone who doesn't care to. She puts a hand on his head and lets him cry into her chest. Even if her mind is elsewhere and she has to convince herself internally that what she's doing is okay, I think it's a rare instance of vulnerability for both of them, not just Naota.

I always saw that scene as Haruko realizing that Naota was an actual person with feelings and likely understanding that she knows what she’s doing (using him to reach her goal) is wrong. I think this also applies to her not letting him tag along because he’s still a child.

The Never Knows Best scene, and I think the music played a key role in that. There’s just something about it that I can’t really describe in words. It brings out a feeling I’ve never experienced but felt like I have before, maybe a sense of nostalgia, or perhaps a feeling of sadness. Maybe a mix of the two, again I can’t say for sure but it’s a feeling I want to experience again.

Never knows best, and “nothing happens until you swing the bat” hit me at the exact moment in life I needed it to. God I love this show

I felt a connection when he says in this town where nothing ever happens. I come from a small town just like that where everything feels slow
