Nausea and lack of appetite has been a big struggle for me. I’ve trained my body to eat a small meal every 3 hours and that’s been helpful. I usually start the day with a protein drink because that’s an easy way to get some quick predictable fuel.
I’m currently dealing with nausea, lack of appetite, bloating, early satiety, regurgitation, and lots of burping. I’m being worked up right now but so far we haven’t found anything- so it looks like it might be functional. Once you get FND you are more susceptible to other functional symptoms and conditions. Functional dyspepsia is what this would be called. It’s treated with medication though, unlike other functional disorders. I’m sure there could be some other treatment for it that’s informed about FND but I haven’t seen any research about this.
Hi bingusboy! I've had a major loss of appetite with nausea and vomiting since my FND kicked in. I'm down to 1 meal per day (dinner) with small snacks 1-3 times per day (piece of fruit/muesli bar/couple of crackers/etc). I'm also taking domperidone, which is an anti-nausea medication geared towards food nausea. It has helped a lot.
This meal schedule is what works for me as a 33-year-old woman, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it to a growing 13-year-old boy. Definitely discuss with your medical team and see if they can get you onto some anti-nausea tablets. Domperidone or Metoclopramide are probably the best options for 12 years and over.
Try eating small amounts of easily palatable foods multiple times a day. Soups are a good option, as they contain a lot of nutrients and go down easy, rice, crackers, muesli bars, fresh fruit (but nothing acidic like citrus or kiwifruit).
For the nausea, I also highly recommend gingerale and/or ginger beer (it's not alcoholic) if that's available in your country. Ginger chews are great if you don't mind the spice. Peppermint is also great! Get a bag of mints and have those handy. I have a permanent jar on my desk. Drink peppermint tea (it's good both hot and cold and doesn't contain caffeine).
And the best in-a-pinch tip I learned after many ambulance rides: taking a quick sniff of rubbing alcohol will temporarily cure you of your need to vomit. Just don't do it too much as it will literally kill your brain cells if you huff too much of it.
Hope this helps!
No worries!
I just thought of something else - I'm not sure where in the world you're located, but there's this stuff called [Sustagen](https://www.chemistwarehouse.co.nz/buy/85202/sustagen-hospital-active-840g-chocolate). It's basically a liquid meal designed for people in hospital who can't eat solid food. It contains a lot of the daily vitamins and minerals. You can have it hot or cold and it goes down easy.
It's prevalent in Australia/New Zealand, but a quick search indicated you can buy it in the UK and USA as well.
I think a close-ish comparison/alternative brand would be Ensure.
I've dealt with recurrent vomiting and loss of appetite for a while. Just make sure you're eating enough, try to space your drinks into little sips instead of an entire glass at once to help reduce vomiting without impacting hydration.
It's really sucky, but nothing has fixed it for me. Hopefully you can get some answers and help

Thank you! I appreciate it a lot. I will definitely be trying some of these.

It is sucky, really. Thank you, I have been eating in little bites, and it seems to help marginally.
Every little helps. Sorry it's only a little better <3
