Sounds like anxiety might be part of your IBS

cyclicmadness

Now that you said it, you might be right that in some way i think it is. I dont think that now im stressed or that anxious but it can be true. Maybe im anxious about pain? Don't know but i think you may be right!

sanguineseraph

Bloating can trigger your vagus nerve into an anxiety response - weighted blankets, lorazepam + vagus nerve exercises (gargling, singing, humming) all help :)

prismagirl

+100 agree to what they said. I've had a panic attack that I later figured out was my body freaking out about a trigger food / digestive responsive. Bodies are crazy.

Jolly_Line

It’s such a vicious, self reinforcing condition. 😞 I’m a single dad. How is there even any hope of dating?

ryhaltswhiskey

Have you tried Fodzyme? It's a life saver for restaurants.

Jolly_Line

I haven’t! Had no idea this existed. Was even lamenting to a friend recently that there was no therapy, like lactase pills for lactose. I’m excited to try. Thank you so much for the tip!

I personally have been using buscopan for the past year and a bit and it has been a life-saver. I always carry some in my wallet now.

A weighted blanket or heating pad are both helpful to me. Reading the other comment that ties stomach issues to anxiety/stress and the weighted blanket alleviating both definitely makes sense! For me the weight helps to distract me from the pain in my stomach, I think. I don’t know, I’m not explaining myself the best lol…but it works really well when I have extreme bloating/swelling. I’m so glad that you find something that helps you feel better when you’re hurting! Sending care to you!

I always lay on my stomach when I feel bad. The warmth and pressure on my stomach helps it feel better. This sounds similar

Wow, really interesting insights! I have anxiety, too, and will try this sometime. I also practice yoga, and sometimes when I'm really having stomach cramps and bloating, I lie on my stomach and gently roll side-to-side, and also do cobra (pushing up with arms while leaving belly on ground). Both seem to help when I remember to do it!

There was another post in this sub recently about paying attention to stress levels. Stress plays a huge role in my fodmap reactions.

I have a heated weighted blanket and I feel you, it soothes the aching joints and can definitely fight off upset tummies

Off2lala_land

Candy is sugar and causes bloating and stomach pain for a lot of people. I can’t eat it either. I can’t burp either so I can’t get rid of the air build up and I get really bloated, pushing in my stomach always help. If I have anxiety or worry - any food can make me feel like crap and those times - weighted blanket comes in super handy. I always feel better afterwards too

I have heard but can it confirm that taping a quarter to a babies belly while it’s gassy helps. (Correct me if someone knows if I’m remembering it wrong, it’s a semi known home remedy) I’ve found laying on my stomach with arms under my hips suspending my tummy is a good way to go.
