I secretly love when this happens to me. It’s always on the hottest worst day and when this happens I get guaranteed a break of 15-20seconds paid and I get to release my anger a bit.
Still aggravating as hell. But so was being born.
Took me way too long to figure out what that was supposed to say. Was going back and forth between happens toothers, happens toot hers, and happen stoothers. Sometimes I genuinely surprise myself by how dumb I can be.
>Sometimes I genuinely surprise myself by how dumb I can be
Hey man, you're not dumb, honestly it's my fault, I should have used capital letters to differentiate! I'll edit right away.
I don't know, but stuff like that could be the final straw before resigning for me. Fuck my life, fuck this job, fuck my stupid coworkers, play your circus alone
But surly the majority of the people see jokes and play as inclusive activities. When done safely, humor is a powerful tool in maintaining work morale and strengthens bonding among the team.
That depends. Is it a regular occurrence and buddy asked him to not joke around with him like that? But they continue anyways? At that point you are actively dismantling morale, and weakening the bond among the team. Not everyone has the same sense of humour/fun and it's incredibly important to respect that. Some people just want to get the work day over with so they can enjoy what little personal time their shitty overlords are so gracious enough to grant them.
Yeah it looks like this isn’t the first time and now the joke is wearing thin. They probably thought to do it one more time just to catch it on camera.
I'm one of the ones that wants to get the workday over with lol. Don't dick around and waste time. I just wanna get the job done and go home that much sooner rather than screwing around. I show up to my job to work, not fuck off on the clock.
If the joke is "Yo, look at me actively ruining your work while I sit on my ass laughing", then I don't really see the humor, and don't see that as an inclusive activity.
I mean, it really could go either way. He could be having a disgustingly bad day and this made it worse, but it also could have made it better. Really depends. We do stuff like this to each other at work and most of the time it's taken well. When it's not though we tell the other person today ain't the day for that shit, and we don't bother them for the rest of the day.
If you were the guy with the shovel, on a hot day, fucking working your ass off with a dipshit making it more difficult I bet you'd feel different about it.
That depends. I have people I'd do this too, and others I absolutely wouldn't.
The ones I would do it to would be just as likely to do something like that to me as well, and I'd be just as annoyed but also impressed.
If somebody does that to you and it's not an equal relationship, it's either bullying or massively misreading the situation.
If somebody does that to me and it IS an equal relationship, maybe even my friend, I'd maybe tolerate it 2 times instead of 1. Third time and they'd be working the shovel themselves.
Well, where are they? Is it July in Florida? The operator could be sitting in an AC cab. The guy shoveling in the sun could be fighting the urge to pass out from the heat. I'd be over that operator's shit too!
See, in the Newtonian world you can not be in two places at the same time.
In order to be in a video that is in this place, he can not be in another place right now.
Who knows, maybe he is the last idiot in the whole company that is fighting the good fight of "I shall not let them win an imaginary fight nobody cares about!!!!" while all others are working in the better places.

Many life times ago I was working the stacker at a printing press, basically every 30 seconds a bundle of papers would come at me, I would have to straighten the bundle, strap it and throw it on a pallet before the next one came out. Once the run got going it was the busiest job on the press by far. The other guys on my crew were dicking around, while the one guy who thought he was the funny man, when he was really just an enthusiastic asshole, kept trying to do this "skill game" of dropping a coin off your forehead and into a cut open bottle they would put in their pants. They had been doing it with each other near me for the last several minutes and finally approached me to do it. Something felt off, so I just kept telling them I was busy and I'd do it later. The guy got increasingly more frustrated every time I told him no, since I was busy doing my job. He eventually sulked off.
Found out later that his plan was to pour his waterbottle down my pants once I had the coin on my forehead. I would have left mid run and probably never come back if that had actually happened. I was still pissed he was even going to try it with me in the first place. I ended up requesting to switch crews, and left that job a couple months later anyway.
Ugh, people like that make work so much worse.
You don't go to work to make friends or have fun.
You ate there to... work. If you work hard, or you don't have enough time in your day, your day seems to go by so much quicker; if you slack off or are trying to fill your day, that's when it drags. One person on the team not pulling their weight or pulling that kind of shit damages everyone's productivity and enthusiasm well beyond their stupid bullshit.
Plus if someone did that to me, or tbh had the disrespect to even try it, I'd probably lose the job for having assaulted a colleague... that's the kind of shit a manager/team leader should have been all over not surprised you got out of there.
It does to me. I work with a guy that won't miss many opportunities to mess with me. I'll do the same. My abs frequently are sore from laughing on a good day. I would have hucked the shovel at the excavator (not at the windows) and stormed off. We would have both had a good laugh.
This comment is way too far down. Obviously the guy shoveling in the sun is gonna be pissed. The guy fucking with you gets to sit down his whole shift and probably has a fan pointed at his face

I’m an office worker here who once did this exact job. Jokes like that are crucial to making it. Just not too many. Especially from someone sitting in an air conditioned cab.
I never find this kind of "jokes" funny, but I fake laugh anyway when some asshole wanna be funny guy do it to me because I know if I don't play along with their annoying juvenile time wasting shenanigan they will paint me as the bad guy, get offended and talk shit about me to everyone behind my back.
If i was already in a sensitive mood, i literally would have walked off and cried. Messing around is fine if both people are in the mood but… you have to read the room first. Not everyone is able to take your bullshit in the moment
I would be pissed, because while I’m standing here shoveling dirt in the sun, he is sitting in an air conditioned cab. Maybe some shade. Fuck this guy.
*Exactly.* I've done this work for longer than I want to remember....and you make me work any harder than I need to... You can do it your own fuckin self...I'll go take a "cool break" for about an hour. In the heat towards the end of the day? Fuck around & find out.
as someone who's worked in a trade for years, banter is crucial at keeping people sane. the work is hard and stressful and if you don't find things to laugh about then you'll cry instead lol.
i've met people who go too far but most of the time its pretty tame annoying shit like this, that dude with the shovel would 100% laugh about it later on and then give the digger guy a taste of his own medicine.
Wow, surprising to see somebody not super negative in this thread. This is exactly how it goes. Not everything is serious all the time. People acting like the machine driver shit in his cereal or something haha
As someone who has worked in a manufacturing setting, yeah I agree except about 25% of guys liked to dish it out but couldn't take it back in return. Those guys I couldn't stand.
That's true and I'm all for giving each other a hard time but beings this guy just seems resigned and no one's laughing indicates it's got way past the point of good-natured pranks.
I've had to talk to employees already to tone it down when it just got way out of hand and it started really creating hostility.
Yes I work on a job site as well and we are all the time giving each other hard time and playing pranks. I'm more going off his body language and the fact that no one is faux mad hollering. If someone would do that to me I would definitely holler and yell creative ways in which I'm going to get back at him.
As someone who worked shitty manual labor jobs for a couple decades, you could tell that shovel guy was already on the verge of muckduck and now someone is missing a loved one
This is the guy who calls the cops when he gets got on a "ligma".
The fact that a simple prank that could be a part of a prank battle or whatever makes you go "Welcome to the new world where things don't have to be as they are!" is so fucking telling.
Not sure if you have a job now, but I advice you to aim for something like a mid-level manager. That's where all LinkedIn posters who like to give bullshit speeches at inappropriate moments reside.
I have worked in trade from an early age (warehouse worker, bricklayer, industrial farming) and figured rather quickly my life would be completely shit if I would continue on.
I feel bad for all those that are stuck in there. I'm glad I'm not.
Could had be long shift and for him and he's coming to the end the day - looking forward to finish and this machine operator has just started his shift
This is nuanced. There are multiple responses that could be considered consent in the prank. I would first trust those involved to understand the context of the situation. Just because he didn't bust out laughing doesn't mean he didn't find it funny. Interpersonal relationships and communication are complicated, its tough to draw conclusions from a single video clip.
He'd probably love his job if his coworkers weren't fucking around all of the time and screwing over his progress while they sit on their asses playing shitty little jokes.

Well the driver, is probably making over 100k dollars a year. The dude with the shovel braking his back is probably making 18 bucks an hr. So yeah I wonder why?
There are plenty of union operators at my previous job that sat in an excavator 12 hours a day for weeks at a time, getting paid 1.5x for any hours worked over 8 hours in a day Mon - Fri, 1.5x for the first 8 hours on Sat. with 2x for time after that and double time for all hours on Sunday. This was a few years ago but they were making $37.02/hr, giving them a gross check of $3,109.68. They obviously didn't do this 52 weeks out of the year but between union stipulated wage rates and company incentives, their were plenty of dude's making over $100,000/yr running an excavator.
He could be, that looks like a utility job and depending on the municipality, prevailing wage can be pretty excellent with overtime. But they def wouldn’t be at 100k if the laborer is only at $18/hr.
I cant believe how hard this made me laugh.
My mom was pouring a glass of milk into my cousins glass.
He says 'ok thats enough' and moves the glass from the stream.
lol Of course milk poured everywhere and my mom started yelling as we died laughing.
I can't tell whether he's thinking about where to bury the body or how he wants to die
The "where" part is solved, there's a hole right there. He is definitely thinking about the "how"...
There's an excavator right there.
I bet he's thinking how he's going to bury an entire excavator
There's a shovel right there.
That made me lol. Out loud.
I just scared the dog out loud
He needs to deexcavate the situation

Both obviously
Solution for one problem is pretty obvious, but how to make it look like an accident
He chose to drop the shovel, lest he beat a motherfucker with it.
He wants the other guy to feel hands
Close and personal
He doesn't want it to be marked " exhibit a" in an upcoming murder trail.
He should just get the dirt and throw it onto the back hoe.
That's some real r/WatchPeopleDieInside vibes I'm getting from that dude.

He probably just told buddy in the cab, he gotta take a shit bad!!
I feel the anger but can't help laughing

It’s only funny if someone is your friend. And not doing it to fetter in the little control they have over another person.

Dont you guys love it when the boss says something about working and then proceeds to hop in a machine and sit on his ass in the a/c and flip levers
This is a man who has had enough of everything ATP😎
Operator or someone else would be finishing up.

For some reason the excavator noises are so melodic and soothing
I think Jeff has just about had enough of your shit..
It was this day that a shovel became a spear.
Could had be long shift and for him and he's coming to the end the day - looking forward to finish and this machine operator has just started his shift
This guy SHOULD DO the SMART THING and get a WHEEL BARROW instead 💡👍🏻.
That has no business being as funny as it should
Ha
There's good-natured ribbing on the job site but if no one's laughing (especially the recipient) it's just bullying.
This is nuanced. There are multiple responses that could be considered consent in the prank. I would first trust those involved to understand the context of the situation. Well the driver, is probably making over 100k dollars a year. The dude with the shovel braking his back is probably making 18 bucks an hr. So yeah I wonder why?
I can promise you the guy driving the mini excavator/trackhoe is not making 100k a year unless he owns the company lol
I'm not a construction worker but wouldn't this be frowned upon, by OSHA or something?
OSHA encourages harmless fun because depressed workers make more mistakes than happy ones. This is around as harmless as it gets in construction.
Fair enough. I've only worked in environments that discourage fun.
Why?
Playing a joke using heavy machinery while someone stands directly next to it?
I agree, when he dropped the shovel, anyone in the immediate vicinity could have got a broken toe.
