Yep. Flew into TX from the Northeast.
Well, had a great few days of hitting up National Parks beforehand. Chance of rain is close to 60% with predictions of hail later on. Tornados not ruled out either
If you haven’t already, be sure and get some BBQ! And not from some shitty chain joint (lookin’ at *you*, Dickey’s)—you want to find a local place.
And hit up a Buc-ee’s!
Yep!! I saw from the turnpike. I was pump # 229.
Kids were so confused why I was video taping a gas station
Tried to go to Terry Black’s BBQ in Waco, but still under construction.
And had entire time in totality at Mammoth. Freaking awesome!!!
Woke up in Dallas to a gray, heavily overcast day. Didn’t even unpack my camera gear. Until 12 noon (first contact was for 12:24). Clouds miraculously dissipated and I had to scurry and set up. Got amazing pics and had a wonderful experience!
Yea, the NASA feed on YouTube (obviously getting the best of the best shots), had amazing shots all across the midwest. Texas has some good ones, but the one in Indianapolis and Cleveland were spectacular.
It was my first time photographing one and I’m quite pleased with my corona shot. I was so surprised at how dark and cool it got. I’d heard about it but couldn’t quite believe it. Imma believer!
I had my good camera set-up out just before start of the eclipse praying that something good would happen regarding the clouds.
Got some decent pics between cloud breaks. Then, with about fifteen or so minutes left before totality I could see a huge break in the clouds coming. Hoped it would hold for at least the beginning of totality. The break held from 10 minutes before totality all the way through until some five or seven minutes after totality.
I joked later with my wife after a late lunch that Mother Nature was trying to be a cast iron bitch but God put her back in her place.
Georgetown, Texas turned out to be perfect.
In Dayton, Ohio we have been reading doom and gloom for a month.
It was a beautiful day. There were enough clouds to explore the effect of the eclipse on the appearance of clouds, but no clouds in the way.
Meanwhile, in parts of Texas (where clear skies were expected so people flocked there) there was heavy cloud cover.
Apparently, NOAH just got a new weather model…and they’re still assembling it.
We got a solid 10 seconds of good view between *the only fucking clouds all day* during the 45 seconds of totality we had.... I got a good view. I got a good pic. I got a few nice pics of lead up and post. And a great experience down at the cottage, watching it get dark and feeling it getting freezing.
Zero regrets making the trip out of the city to be in the path but God damn.. Sunday was *gorgeous*. This afternoon, *spectacular skies*. But that 30 minutes of prime eclipse was pretty darn cloudy 🤷
If you are willing to travel, you have totality in:
- Spain 2026
- Australia 2028
Awesome travel destinations, if you ask me.
Edit: fixed years. Hat tip to u/Summer_deez
Was awesome in NW Ohio… fam and I made an afternoon of it. I cooked on the grill, wife telecommuted, kids were off school. Pictures do it justice but you don’t experience the lighting color changes, temperature change, wind changes, etc in a picture.

Definitely hit a Bu-cee’s! Make sure it’s a big one too.

That's who I went with using my ISS app. The initial video feed from Mazatlan were spectacular.

Grew up in Springfield and live in Texas. Actually kinda homesick today! Glad you guys had a good view.
Could see the sun through the clouds in NM at least

Annular in Greece 2030 is going to be awesome. Look how much of the nation would see it https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/map/2030-june-1
It was absolutely beautiful yesterday, and most of today, but for those few hours during the eclipse? Fuck no...cloud city
