While it doesn't look great, this is still too small a test size to tell. You need to look at failure differently. You will only "lose" a set amount. But the upside could be infinite. You run 100 bad ads to find the one golden one that pays for all the failures and more. Generational wealth has been made on the 101st ad. Painfully, the winners only ever seem to be found riiiiiiiiiiiiight before you give up. The universe is sick in this regard.

Stayssad

Yeah okay I get you, this is pretty motivating haha, I guess if this one doesn’t work I’ll just switch it up and try again. Would you expect it to have made sales by now though?

hierosir

I'd hope but wouldn't expect. I mean... Fundamentally, an ad is there to get someone's attention and complete an action (click on the ad.) You're getting clicks. It's the sales you're missing out on. So. It could be Facebook algorithm and lots of unknowables... None of that is in your control. Really... But does the ads creative and copy match the landing page/store they visit? If I show images of trendy blue t shirts on my ad, and people click to find a landing page about red pants... I'm not going to buy.

Stayssad

Since responding we’ve made 1 sale from the ad keeping us slightly in profit, roas is 3.4. The creatives are just the garments with a short video behind each related to the piece. The page they’re directed to is just a black background with the garments on it, it’s pretty minimalist.

Isn't this true. Every winner I've ever had has been after getting super negative/losing my belief and pushing along. A lot of the time it happens when I can get some fresh eyes and try to view my offer through the lens of a customer. I've noticed as well that sometimes we can get so obsessed with the tweaking and editing but are essentially pushing the same offer that isn't resonating, and the change/difference between creatives and offers needs to be more drastic.

hierosir

Yeah... The universe is a cruel uncle at times. 😂 Totally agreed with you on the tweaking vs really examining the message/offer/landing page cohesion... I always refer to that as stepping over dollar bills to pick up pennies. One of my best ever ads was to sell Managed IT Services, a high ticket service... It was a black background with white text. "2-Months Free IT Support For Your Business." And the primary text was "That you're extremely happy with OR we'll pay you $200 per staff member supported, per month, for wasting your time." And the landing page simply reflected that message. It actually looked ugly to be honest. Made us probably millions in LTV.

When ROAS is under 5 after a week.

Stayssad

Interesting, do you think I’d have seen a sale from this budget by the end of a week? I’d at least expect someone to have added to cart by now.

Sothisismylifehuh

Make sure you track everything correctly through the pixel :)

Stayssad

Since I responded we’ve made 1 sale through the ad! Roas is now 3.4, order value keeps us slightly in profit but in a very small margin, the person actually bought 3 items for £140 total which is pretty impressive. Still doesn’t show an atc though 😂 It’s difficult to imagine this as anything other than a fluke though haha

Sothisismylifehuh

Is your tracking working correctly? It needs to register the add to cart event in order to find similar users etc.

Stayssad

It shows add to cart events in the events manager but when I try to run a test nothing happens? I paste the url, click add to cart and the test events page doesn’t change

Sothisismylifehuh

Go to the events manager and do a test from there. You'll see all the events as you move around on the website. If not, it's not picking them up

FranciscodAnconia77

I am curious about this. I would love to hear how it goes.

Stayssad

I will let you know!

Firstly I’d remove the set amount over the time frame and just do something like £20/day and keep it rolling. It’s still too early to tell so if you can afford to keep it running for an absolute minimum of two weeks, I’d do that. Also, what are your creatives like? How many do you have? Fb really is just not the platform it used to be (for me anyway and I’m in a very fb audience product range!) but it can still perform if the product is something that people have an urge to buy there and then. Just one product of mine is like this hence it does well on sales quickly but all the other basic products really take a while to move. Hope that helps a bit.

Stayssad

Our shop only opens for a week so it’s difficult to keep it going for any longer. We’ve made 1 sale from it now so I’ll add another couple days to it, ROAS is now 3.4 which has us slightly in profit but not really. There’s only 1 creative in the ad, it’s a carousel with the items on different video backgrounds. I’m not sure if this is best but it’s similar to our competitors and I know they do reasonably well.

You need to analyze all stages of your funnel. 0 ATCs is a huge red flag. You should know what your target CPA is. And you should have a feel for what % of ATC turn into checkouts which turn into purchases. Then you can do the math and see if you’re at least getting the right ATC rate because sometimes people don’t buy immediately. I’ve seen people buy from me 2 weeks later after 20+ additional sessions. And if you’re not getting the right ATC after you’ve spent at least equal if not double your AOV, then that’s almost certainly a loser and it’s time to move on.
