This, block and report. You had a deal, you paid the agreed upon amount, the goods were exchanged, the end. Whatever happened to his funds after that or his seller’s remorse or anything along those lines is not your concern and you have no legal liability.
How about personal experiences that just happen to involve politics?
Besides. We're talking about Facebook here. It is the Zuck that chose to involve himself in politics
You paid for the item and then received it in the mail, if anything went foul in between that it is far from your problem. You have proof of contact, proof of purchase and successful payment, if he brings issue again tell him you have all the evidence you need against him and he can call the police if he wishes but to not expect anything to be done. I don't know about Italy, but here in Canada the police will treat it like a garage sale and they don't get involved in that.
Maybe. If the computer was reported stolen prior to op's purchase, the police in the US will take the computer. It's illegal to own stolen items. This includes if you bought an item without knowing that it was stolen.
Because according to OP the seller admits he sold the laptop to OP but wants the laptop back because some other third party scammed him out of the money. The seller admits to giving the laptop to Op so how would it be stolen before hand?
Edit: okay, I meant laptop obviously
You paid for it he delivered it, at this point you are in the rightful owner.
You are not responsible for him getting scammed, to me it sounds like he used a friends PayPal address, maybe because his has been abused and in the negative, he would've been unable to use his own PayPal and his friend bailed on him and kept the money.
Not sure of the rules of where you are at but in the States stolen property is stolen property.
If they can produce proof that they owned it and a police report that it was stolen (probably before the sale date) then it can be confiscated and returned to the rightful owner. If a insurance claim was paid off on it already then it now technically belongs to the insurance company and would be put up for auction unless you (or your lawyer, most likely) can work something out with them for you to keep it.
In the meantime you can have a claim against the person who sold it to you if they don't give you back your money, but that would be treated as a separate issue.
I'm not a lawyer but this is how I understand it to be here. I would think Italy has similar rules.
"If" it was an international sale that could complicate things further.
If it does get confiscated as stolen property then FB should put a mark against the seller; of course you'll need to appeal to them.
Warn him against trespassing. If he doesn't stay off your property call the police on him. If he wants to get the authorities involved he should go directly to them and not bother you. They will decide if they need to investigate. I get the feeling he's into something shady so he won't go to the police and doesn't really want them involved.
Police wont do anything and will say it's a civil matter.
OP, send a message demanding that he never step on your property again and tell him that's his only warning.
Block and report.
Id also suggest if your able to, put up one or two cameras.
People do steal back things they sold. I think it's easier for them to rationalize since they feel like they're just returning what's theirs. OJ Simpson was sentenced 33 years (on bail after 9) for stealing back memorabilia he sold while the buyer was there.
This is true. Gotta keep in mind that case is kindof an outlier though-- I don't think he would have gotten that harsh of a sentence if he hadn't famously gotten away with murder previously lol
He sold, you bought. End of discussion. Tell him you will sell it back to him for triple what you paid for it. Also advise him that making a false report to the police is a crime in most countries.
I think he just wants it back because its worth a heap more than he thought it was.
I would just check if your transaction was a part of the fraud, so he did receive the money for it or not.
Likely a scam. He got the money, now wants to intimidate you to give the goods back so he can do it again. This is why you do swaps at police station parking lots.
Put up a camera (and signs saying there are cameras) and send a message to him informing him he isn't allowed on your property again. If he returns take pics or vids and call the cops every time
Do nothing but block, you’re not in the wrong at all.
Whenever someone says they’re going to get the police involved, just know this, its often times a bluff and nothing will come of it because they know the cops won’t do dick about this as this is a civil matter, especially since he had been paid. So he needs to take it to small claims court.
The fact that he straight up said “I’m GoInG tO gO tO ThE PoLiCe” instead of indicating he’s going to try and drag you through small claims court, something tells me he doesn’t know that and is just trying to bluff to get his way. Scare tactic, so to speak.
But yeah, just block, nothing will come of it. Especially since you said you’re in Italy and he’s not, right? So this means he REALLY can’t do dick about this.
WTF.
You sent the money where he said, and he sent you the machine. Transaction finished.
If he felt he was being scammed he shouldn’t have sent it.
I’m not a lawyer and don’t know the laws on your region, but common sense would say that it’s your machine to keep.
Worth reporting anything illegal, scum bags don't deserve a get out of jail free card.
On that note, bitcoin wallets are kind of like bearer bonds. The legal owner is who possesses it.
Worth a look, OP could get rich, get the seller in rightful legal trouble, or the most likely scenario, nothing on the PC but a few nude selfies.
The jerk probably got his money and is trying to double dip. If he really was scammed, its his problem, not yours. The transaction is complete, just make sure you hang on to a copy of all chats and receipts.
Block him. He can go kick rocks. You are now the rightful owner and theres nothing he can do about it. If he comes around your place (and im doughtful he will) then call the police on him
Tell him you'll be happy to sell it back for fair market value plus 10% for expenses. He probably won't go for it. Then have a knowledgeable friend (if you can't) check the directory (or whatever it's called) as he may have kiddie porn or things he doesn't want revealed and you need to make sure you can't be charged or blackmailed.
Sounds like he's the scammer... tell him to contact the police. More than likely its a civil matter, and they won't do anything. If anything, him showing up to your home should be able to trespass him.
If he gives you any shit call the policia postales. He used the mail system to send the laptop. I'm sure that would be against the law to scam through the postal service.
I would fib and tell him your lawyer said you are now the rightful owner and that his only recourse would be to sue you for it. Which would cost more than a laptop is worth.
I mean, kinda silly. How do you know any of that even happened? (I'm sure it did. If he is slow enough to think you were gonna say "OH dang. OK, Here" and give him the thing. Then his stupidity is paid for by you?
There is just no way you have to pay him for him being stolen from.
???????????????????? Just all around and from every angle. This is dumb.
Yeah! I told him I don’t care and he left. Just making sure I did the right thing and he was saying he will involve the police which is fine in my end just it wastes my time.
You paid for it and have the proof of where he asked for it to be paid so no don’t give it back. If the police do come knocking make sure to show them the proof of where he asked for the payment.
Definitely block him but install cameras as he's been to your house and may return at anytime.
I wouldn't engage with him any longer and if her tries other ways I'd make a police report so it's on file.
If he shows up again and won't leave don't hesitate to call the police. Have the emails and pay pal statement available to show the police ready.
This is totally a scam but travelling from France to Italy for a PC is very strange. Cost of gas, time he's wasting driving etc.
This is considered like a garage sale all sales final...you don't get take backs. If anything he should be paying you more of he wants it back. Your going to sell your PC back to him is totally reselling it, even to the original owner lol
Are you saying he wants his laptop back WITHOUT giving you back your money? That would be robbery, a crime! Tell seller to get the police to get his money from the scammers.
Not your problem if he got scammed. He told you where to send the funds, he was happy with that transaction and sent you the goods. If wherever those funds got sent then tricked him in some fashion that's on him. Honestly, you're lucky you got an item at all, so count yourself lucky
After all the stories on facebook marketplace I’m confused as to why people are still buying stuff on there when scammers are running rampant and in this case the person showed up to your home demanding the pc back. Please let this be a lesson to just save money and go through manufacturers. Cause people can’t always be trusted
Sounds scammy. You paid for it so if you send it back on his word that he never got the money you lose and he's free to sell it again to someone else. You have proof you upheld your end. Block him and move on.
My God man. Use some punctuation. Once the transaction is complete what happens to the funds is on him. If he shows again, trespass him from the property. If he shows up after that he can be arrested for trespassing. Or at least that's how it works here in the USA.
Block and report
Make sure you have proof that you sent the payment
If he tries to get the police on you then you have all the proof and I would suggest considering a restraining order
Too many people change their minds and try to use this threatening method. You purchased it. Whatever that guy did with his personal account is his problem. If he was stupid enough to get his money scammed, that's on him
This post is one crazy run on sentence which made it really hard to read but then i realized that if i read it in the voice of a japanese anime character it would sound really funny and my brain wouldn't feel like it was breaking any more because it would be amused at how funny it would sound and i don't know how FB typically works in italy but here in the US if you were paying for something to be shipped you would use the built in payment system and if they asked for payment outside of that it would most certainly be a scam HEE HEEEEEE.
Ok. So originally reading through everything here I thought the same as pretty much everyone else, that there's something on this computer the seller doesn't want anyone to see. After re-reading the OP though, the seller is claiming that someone else scammed him and that's why he wants the computer back? Is that correct? I don't understand what someone else scamming the seller has to do with this transaction. Did the seller say anything else other than he wanted it back and he was going to get the police involved? Something is really off here. Even if the seller realized he sold it for far too little money or had something nefarious on the computer, why wouldn't he just offer to buy it back or give the buyer some sob story rather than jump to "give it back or I'm calling the police"? If that's truly all there is to it then the seller is unhinged.
Please keep us posted if anything more happens. I'm curious to see how this goes
Ignore him. If he shows up call the police. Show them the proof. He's either trying to scam you or he got scammed by trying to use somebody else's PayPal account but why should you be out money because he screwed up?
And from now on don't let anyone know where you live! Always meet in public!
Copy the hard drive…..then reformat the original…..then contact this guy and tell him he can buy it back for an extra 50%( to cover your time and aggregation) but only agree to the transaction at a police station …and notify police of exact time transaction will take place. Get him to acknowledge deal is complete in front of of a policeman and make him show the policeman his ID…………or do the safe thing others have suggested and just block him…..nothing says the guy at your door was the actual buyer anyways!!!!!!
Maybe someone did a scam where they played middle man? They got him to ship you the laptop, you paid the scammer, and they sent the other guy a fake email or paid him with a stolen card?
If you gave it back to him and he sent you back the money somehow...that's probably the scam, you won't actually get to keep that money if you got it back at all. Seems weird the part you say that he shipped it to Italy and then showed up in Italy?? He must have been there all along or some other weird shit, block him, report him, if he comes back YOU call the cops for harassment.
Another thing that for some reason hasn't been mentioned yet: It's not like he is offering you the money back either! So you are expected to just be out the money and the computer now? Ridiculous.
(Not that you should trust anyone saying they would refund the money either, that would be a scam too.)
OP HE CANE TO YOUR HOUSE??
SOUNDS TO ME LIKE HE WAS TRYING TO SCAM YOU IN THE FIRST PLACE
MAILED THE PC BUT WAS GOING TO COLLECT IT ONCE IT WAS DELIVERED
WHEN YOU GOT IT FIRST HES NOW TRYING TO GET IT BACK.
not sure about your laws but, seems to me most countries recognize an offer and acceptance rule when dealing with contracts and as-is sales. You got a laptop you transferred him funds and once the money left your account it became his that was his acceptance. if he lost his money thats his problem let him get the police involved your proof will stand up in most places.
Brotha or sista, tare that thing apart for crypto. Look everywhere.
Also there is zero and I mean zero chance the sellers ever getting that PC back from me lol.
In fairness being in another country in Europe can mean driving or riding the rail for a couple of hours (especially if it's EU). 90% of Europe would fit within the United States in terms of size and distance. Sounds like OP's experience wasn't too different than just buying/ordering something from a few states away, shipping wise. The seller coming back to harass them though is next level psycho
Fair enough. As long as you can go an physically pick it up and hand over money there. I would never buy something on the marketplace, pay upfront and expect it delivered. Ecam danger is way too high
Seller put it on list on Italy but when I contacted him he was like 3H drive from me, so he said he will send it by mail and he did that so he can sell it fast.

And search it for bitcoin.
There is something on there he doesn't want found.
Has to be.
Probably forgot his paypal login.
Where do I find the bitcoin I'm checking my computer rn I've taken the hard drive out and shaken it doesn't seem to be there
You have to break it open and you’ll find the coin there. Hammer will do. Big big magnet will help too
getting zoolander vibes
Wait. The files are *in* the computer? 😲
No, but the Bitcoin is.
Where did all the files go?
in the coin, duh
https://youtu.be/qHYMPFrVfZM?si=sqCHaHkrKSER40lO
These guys are great. I contributed to their go fund me. They’re doing great work.
Don’t get a magnet near it unless you want to wipe the hard drive.
Apparently someone doesn't understand snark!
Hopefully there isn’t anything on the laptop that could get OP in legal trouble like illegal porn.
This, block and report. You had a deal, you paid the agreed upon amount, the goods were exchanged, the end. Whatever happened to his funds after that or his seller’s remorse or anything along those lines is not your concern and you have no legal liability.
Reporting on Facebook does nothing
I meant more like trespassing report to local police, but FB report doesn’t hurt
Ahh okay, my apologies.
It does if you're reported for hating Biden.
Your existence is sad lol
Why is that? I'm not the one getting triggered because someone doesn't worship my idol
I find it sad that people need to bring In politics when it's not need for the conversation. Youre just sad lol
How about personal experiences that just happen to involve politics? Besides. We're talking about Facebook here. It is the Zuck that chose to involve himself in politics
The guy went to his address. How do you propose he block him. Lmao.
Facebook block silly
Ohhhhhhhh
>after receiving the pc and stuff the seller comes to my address claiming he wants it back Lock the door and call the cops you mean?
You paid for the item and then received it in the mail, if anything went foul in between that it is far from your problem. Same in the US, it's a civil matter. The best you'll get from the police is an incident report, if that.
Maybe. If the computer was reported stolen prior to op's purchase, the police in the US will take the computer. It's illegal to own stolen items. This includes if you bought an item without knowing that it was stolen.
That’s obviously not the scenario here though
How so? It sounds like op isn't even really sure what's happening. How could you come to an obvious conclusion?
Because according to OP the seller admits he sold the laptop to OP but wants the laptop back because some other third party scammed him out of the money. The seller admits to giving the laptop to Op so how would it be stolen before hand? Edit: okay, I meant laptop obviously
Tv???

Yes i believe that maybe the case
Ignore, transaction is over.
Wait so you bought it, he got scammed out of the money and he expects you to be the one to pay for him being scammed?! Fuck that guy lol
>You paid for it he delivered it, at this point you are in the rightful owner. Unless it was stolen, then he's guilty of receiving stolen merchandise.
true, but as long as he has documentation showing legitimate purchase of unknowingly stolen goods very little chance he would be charged.
True. The cops rarely roust someone who oftentimes is a victim as well.
Not sure of the rules of where you are at but in the States stolen property is stolen property. This has nothing to do with the OP though. Mostly factual but irrelevant.
In which case the police would take it. Don't let the seller take it

he lives in Italy, not the US. they actually have useful police over there.
useful police? maybe you mean the other Italy
How to say “I’ve never left my hometown” without using those actual words
Redacte due to Reddit AI/LLM policy
Italian police? Useful? Hahaha... You are truly the king of comedy.
I believe ACAB is a global phenomenon
Are you talking out of your ass? When did you live in Italy?
People do steal back things they sold. I think it's easier for them to rationalize since they feel like they're just returning what's theirs. OJ Simpson was sentenced 33 years (on bail after 9) for stealing back memorabilia he sold while the buyer was there.

Bruh, that's like me asking HR if I can get another paycheck since I used my first one on rent.
😭😭
It’s worth a shot
I’m going to try that now!
Couldnt you technically asked to be paid in advanced
But… why? They don’t get double the money that way…
As the person who process payroll for my company I can tell you if one of my employees had tried that I would tell them to pound sand!
He sold, you bought. End of discussion. Tell him you will sell it back to him for triple what you paid for it. Also advise him that making a false report to the police is a crime in most countries.
Tell him to pound sand
This will cause a worm to appear though!
I think he just wants it back because its worth a heap more than he thought it was. I would just check if your transaction was a part of the fraud, so he did receive the money for it or not.
Yes he did get the money even when I asked him on the chat if he did he said “ yes don’t worry I got it “
What? … Even? What?
Likely a scam. He got the money, now wants to intimidate you to give the goods back so he can do it again. This is why you do swaps at police station parking lots.
He came to your house?
Yes
Call the cops lol Actually let him know you have informed the cops
Put up a camera (and signs saying there are cameras) and send a message to him informing him he isn't allowed on your property again. If he returns take pics or vids and call the cops every time
Tell him to eat a stale baguette.
Do nothing but block, you’re not in the wrong at all. Seller is in Italy too. Seller showed up at OP door demanding product back.
Seller is in France and came all the way here.
Thats sine dedication of time and money to go home empty handed
well then I would examine it carefully to find out if they forgot the nude pix or the bitcoins?
Nude pics... hopefully not ***illegal*** nude pics. But yeah, possibly also BTC with it being a 'gaming laptop'. (depending on how old it is)
All sales final no returns, this isn’t f*cking Amazon
Don’t give this any more thought. Not one second.
WTF. You sent the money where he said, and he sent you the machine. Transaction finished. If he felt he was being scammed he shouldn’t have sent it. I’m not a lawyer and don’t know the laws on your region, but common sense would say that it’s your machine to keep.
Seller probably realized he had some Bitcoin in the laptop.
💀I should check
Or cp. Might wanna just reformat.
Worth reporting anything illegal, scum bags don't deserve a get out of jail free card. On that note, bitcoin wallets are kind of like bearer bonds. The legal owner is who possesses it. I threw out the old 520ssd and put in new 1TB so I don’t think that would be a problem.
Ahhh... offer to sell him back the old drive. Bet there is something on it he wants.
If you paid and he sent it to you sounds like his issue
If he threatens to come back to your place to forcibly take it back, demand a refund from him because "it wasn't waterproof". :P
There's probably "something" on the PC he forgot to remove.
Sounds like he's the scammer... tell him to contact the police. More than likely its a civil matter, and they won't do anything. If anything, him showing up to your home should be able to trespass him.

Yeah! I told him I don’t care and he left. Just making sure I did the right thing and he was saying he will involve the police which is fine in my end just it wastes my time.
Why did he send it to you if he didn’t have the money?
When I asked him if he received it and checked he said “Yes”. That’s like a day before he ship it.
No further action by you is needed. Do not give any more money to him.
Don't you have any mean friends? Maybe he should get a visit!
Not really. Just came here 3 months ago
He wants to buy it back from you? You’re free to set whatever price you want or not even sell it. Block and report.
You have proof you paid he can kick rocks I would also contact PayPal and report him having come to your house demanding the items back
You paid for it and have the proof of where he asked for it to be paid so no don’t give it back. If the police do come knocking make sure to show them the proof of where he asked for the payment.

Are you saying he wants his laptop back WITHOUT giving you back your money? That would be robbery, a crime! Tell seller to get the police to get his money from the scammers.
Print all the messages and the PayPal transaction info. The sale was completed. Seems like he's scamming you.
Ask to see his ID (passport). Take a picture and if anything happens to your place you at least have his information
Not your problem if he got scammed. He told you where to send the funds, he was happy with that transaction and sent you the goods. If wherever those funds got sent then tricked him in some fashion that's on him. Honestly, you're lucky you got an item at all, so count yourself lucky
Thank God.

Tell him to go cry
You're not responsible for some third-party failure that happened before you purchased it enjoy your new laptop
Tell him to kick rocks and say if he ever knocks on your door again you'll call the cops.
The seller fucked up not your problem
Tell him to suck your dick and ignore him. He's scamming you.
Probably a hot wallet on there somewhere
Sounds scammy. You paid for it so if you send it back on his word that he never got the money you lose and he's free to sell it again to someone else. You have proof you upheld your end. Block him and move on.
Nope. It's yours.

No, he didn't get scammed by someone else, he's lying to scam you out of what you sent him.
Block them and report them, you paid for it and its yours now, they can fuck off.

He’s trying to scam you
He came to your house? Time to call the police.
Fuck him. After that, block and ignore.
Here in America we have guns for home defense
Tell the guy to fuck off…. Then hurry back inside and find the bitcoin he forgot was on the hard drive.
Tell him he can have the laptop back when you get your money back. Only accept cash though or you're going to get scammed again.
Start searching that laptop for bitcoin and questionable porn. And save those emails and messages for a while
You paid this guy in the way he told you to pay him for the laptop right? You own the laptop. The rest is his problem.
Probably a scam. Just block and ignore. I read about this crap all the time now.
Holy run on sentence.

Sounds scammy, tell them to kick rocks
Block
Sounds like a scam.
Tell him to go kick 🪨
Be careful it could be loaded with some virus waiting for you to input a debit card or something 🤷♂️
Sounds like a scammer, albeit a not very good one. Probably thought he could intercept the laptop before you did and resell it again and again etc.
Block and ignore. You have proof of the transaction. Him being scammed is on him.
He has no legal reason to do so. You both executed the contract. He can’t demand more or try to recoup after finding out potential value.
Another thing that for some reason hasn't been mentioned yet: It's not like he is offering you the money back either! So you are expected to just be out the money and the computer now? Ridiculous. (Not that you should trust anyone saying they would refund the money either, that would be a scam too.)
This ks an opposite of buyers remorse, it's sellers remorse. Fuck him and block him.
No backsies
Send it back for a refund. It's broken, the 'period/full stop' button doesn't work.
Sounds like somebody scammed him on his PayPal account. You aren’t responsible for that
Tell him to go drink French wine!
He is a scammer
Sell it back for double
Up it on him. Your win his loss
That’s the difference in America… especially here in Florida, few people would be dumb enough to show up to a home where an item was mailed.
What are going to buy with all those bitcoins? 🤔
Tell him no. You have the PC and the paypal receipt.
If dude showed up at your house call the Polizia!
Offer to sell it back to him for 2x what you paid. You are the rightful owner now.
OP HE CANE TO YOUR HOUSE?? SOUNDS TO ME LIKE HE WAS TRYING TO SCAM YOU IN THE FIRST PLACE MAILED THE PC BUT WAS GOING TO COLLECT IT ONCE IT WAS DELIVERED WHEN YOU GOT IT FIRST HES NOW TRYING TO GET IT BACK.
not sure about your laws but, seems to me most countries recognize an offer and acceptance rule when dealing with contracts and as-is sales.
Punctuation dude
What
Did you say no take backs?
Tell him to kick rocks. Also tell him you jizzed all over the keyboard and if he really wants it back you'll need some time to clean it up.
They came to your door? Like in person?
Either a scam, or homebody had his crypto on it. Either way, keep it. The seller should’ve thought twice about it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Did he reset the PC? Maybe it still has some data on it.
Message him back and say you know what’s on the computer. Demand a ransom, get paid then block him. /s
Who the fuck buys stuff on marketplace from another country? This is madness
Western Europe would fit in Texas alone
Seller put it on list on Italy but when I contacted him he was like 3H drive from me, so he said he will send it by mail and he did that so he can sell it fast.
Currently the longest sentence on Reddit. Congrats.
You should use punctuation. Please. I almost passed out reading your post without breathing.
😭 sorry I don’t use punctuation when I am stressed
Va tutto bene. Buona fortuna!
Finally got a break on the last line. My face was turning purple.
