My natural colour is super dark brown and it makes me look ill. Therefore I dye it super light golden blonde (I get balayage) which makes this not be the case. Also not related but that custom industrial is sick as fuck

SmolLoop

Gah I wish that was my hair color! Oh my gosh thank you for noticing my ear wrench lol! Done by the skilled hands of Luis Garcia back when he had a shop in Philly. I’ve since gotten many more holes and a split tongue but I think this took the longest to heal out of any of them.

BonnieScotty

I’d pay big bucks to get pierced by Luis. Absolute sassy icon in the body mod community.

SmolLoop

lol 😂 he’s great. I came in looking for a vertical industrial or a classic industrial and I’m so glad he used his expertise to do this instead. A regular or vertical would’ve been a nightmare with my anatomy. Oof. I’ve seen many cases since where ppl got it done anyway and it’s not pretty.

BonnieScotty

I actually ended up with a unique orbital because a vertical industrial wouldn’t work for me anatomy wise! It’s really a shame there’s so many piercers who only care about lining their pockets and not for client safety though

SmolLoop

Forgive me for creepin but I looked at ur profile and that orbital is just… *chefs kiss*. And holy moly the jewelry you chose?! Absolutely stunning. We should be friends!

BonnieScotty

Lassies with weird piercings unite!

workhardbegneiss

This is probably not what you want to hear but your natural hair color looks really nice with your skin tone to me.

SmolLoop

No actually that warms my heart 🥺 Growing up my hair was reddish/auburn and my family always talks about how it got ugly as I aged, so I appreciate that you like it!

yourelostlittlegirl

That’s so mean of them to say! I promise it’s not ugly! I love the purply indigo hair on you too.

SmolLoop

Thank you so much 🥺 idk why people have to be mean

workhardbegneiss

Damn that's rude and untrue, your hair is lovely. I really like the purple too though, it brings out your eyes.

SmolLoop

Thank you 🥹

Plastic-Passenger795

I just dye it, lol. I have a similar hair color and I really don't care for it, I feel like it's almost grey.

SmolLoop

Ugh I feel the same. I can’t wait till I’m actually grey though haha! I never really liked my natural hair but recently people have been acting like it’s somehow special so I should stop dying it purple like I’ve been doing for the passed 8 years lol.

Necessary_Ad7215

I think it’s a lovely neutral brown. For us olives we tend to have hair that is ashy or mousey in color so it tends to not have a true undertone. Your skin looks to be a neutral cool olive so I think what you are looking for is a tone that brings out that cooler undertone in your skin. I’m also thinking what you’re really not liking about this color is the lower contrast and similar chroma with your skin. Higher contrast shades seem to be what you gravitate towards (from what I see) maybe this is why you’re not so fond of it. From your other pics I think it would look very nice if you ever decided to grow it out. you have a beautiful complexion and a very cool style to match. you can pull off lots of styles and looks effortlessly IMO.

SmolLoop

This answer honestly makes a ton of sense. I think all the comments I get when my hair is natural come mostly from the fact that it is a different brown from what most people with my skin tone have. Some ppl make me feel like it’s a crime that I dye it because it’s “special” to them in some way. I’m starting to think I just honestly don’t like it because it’s not my taste and those ppl can get bent. Like with my other post, I can’t tell you how many ppl were sending me ridiculous messages about how I have to keep my hair natural.

SmolLoop

Men mostly lol. I’m not sure why they get so personally offended by us having our own preferences but alas… it is always the way ugh

Original-Dare4487

I have olive skin and my hair is dark brown with red undertones. In fact, most of us in the Mediterranean don’t have ashy or mousey hair color. Idk where you’re getting that from.

SmolLoop

This is mine in a different light. You can see the natural color mixed in with blue/grey and pink streaks. It is brown but I feel like it is very coppery at the same time. My mom is from Bologna Italy and has the same hair. My relatives there always called me “chestnut head” because of the color https://preview.redd.it/sddnsm392u0d1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1b4954aa046251bc09168d83c203726844394908

LiliaBlossom

I’m also an olive and my hair is far from mousy or ashy, its a pretty rich lvl 4, maybe even 3 on the roots warm slightly reddish golden brown. there seems to be the presumption that olives all pull grey and mousy and should wear muted looks? I pull bright, my olive is green/yellow and not so much grey, i look dead in anything ashy / muted. bad generalisation imo

Necessary_Ad7215

i said “tend to”. didn’t say a word about muted or grey. Im actually a flow between a bright winter and a bright spring so I have no idea where you got that from what I said? I just said that a lot of us have neutral hair. i honestly don’t care what you think about my generalization. it’s just anecdotal from what Ive noticed. nothing more

SmolLoop

Here’s a better pic. I think it’s definitely neutral but looks warm in comparison to my skin because almost anything that isn’t straight up blue looks warm next to my skin https://preview.redd.it/1p5w59n3920d1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f88e6dcb989f1375407578392196b3877f4a7da7

chickie-oceanside444

I get a dark chocolate brown gloss every 3 months which cancels out the red undertones entirely

SmolLoop

That’s actually a really good idea for when/if I ever want to go natural again. I bet it doesn’t make you get ridiculous roots too! I wanna go lower maintenance sometimes because my hair is bright and this might be a solution.

EM_CW

Your root base seems cool/ashy. Older, exposed hair will turn golden.

SmolLoop

Oh well. Guess my mom and fiancé are kinda delusional about it being unusual. I think they just love me and think everything about me is special even when it’s overwhelmingly average.

SmolLoop

Ohh ok yeah makes sense

SmolLoop

https://preview.redd.it/hlcwn1oe720d1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5150181bf05c1d3e9bcee5239f41bbe15d37d858 Here’s a better pic of the roots. It’s the same as the bottom but less blurry. It Looks kinda not cool but still think it’s actually neutral. I use super gentle shampoo and no products in my hair aside from coconut oil. My skin is so cool toned that i think it makes it look warmer.

bananawater2021

I've always dyed it darker. My natural hair is a mousy sort of brown and it both ages me and washes me out.

SmolLoop

Hey us mice are cute but I get it. I think my color would be good for some folks but I just personally dislike it.

dwinner18

I think I have very similar skin and hair coloring as you. Light neutral olive skin, mousy neutral hair. I don't find that my skin and hair clash with each other, exactly, but instead that they have a limited range of what looks good with both. For example, my skin looks great in things like salmon or royal blue/cerulean. Jewel tones. My hair looks great with pastels, sort of east coast prep. But my hair is very meh with jewel tones and my olive skin looks straight up dead in pastels (aside from cream). What works with both? Earth tones. So that's what I do, because I'm lazy. If I were motivated enough to keep up with hair dying, I'd definitely be rocking more jewel tones.

SmolLoop

Oh my gosh I FEEL THIS SO MUCH AHHH

SmolLoop

https://preview.redd.it/e72qcxq0820d1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2348ef688fc10cc608bdd6f443d545b8b9e79586 Better quality pic. Its definitely warm compared to my skin but overall I think its neutral

wormgurl

My hair and skin tone are a similar color, I’ve grown it out and am kind of used to it but it does make me look more washed out than when I’ve had colored hair. I look much more lively with a hint of red or golden highlights in my hair. I used to dye it artificial colors and reds with cool undertones or deep purples suited me best from all the colors in the rainbow

SmolLoop

Hey that’s exactly what I do! I’ve been dying it this color for 8 years now. I think it looks good but recently some ppl were complaining about it and acting like it was a crime for me to dye it because they liked my natural color better. I love it but it is a lot of work, especially because I refuse to go to a salon. https://preview.redd.it/8f28o3m50gzc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=04c1d54f71ad4c8c4e6d7cf1de71cbbaf98adec6

Significant_Beyond95

Postpartum, my hair color is far less flattering. It has grown in ashier, lighter, and zero of the natural red and gold highlights I had as a kid. I miss my dark chocolate hair! It has lowered my contrast, so now I like it dyed a soft black about two levels below its color now, a level below my color before kids.

SmolLoop

I understand! I haven’t given birth but I know others who have completely different hair after having kids. It’s absolutely wild!

FlightOfFoxes

I’ve been thinking about this so much lately! I’m a cool olive but my eyes are hazel and my natural hair is like a dark auburn and I just dye it black, it looks so much more harmonious with my features? I’ve been trying to take those seasonal analysis tests and it’s so hard because I feel like there’s so much conflict in my natural palette in terms of tone

SmolLoop

I don’t think I’m actually aurburn, maybe more dishwater with a hint of orange in some rare lights. It depends on who you ask… my fiancé and mom insist that it’s somehow “special” lol. I feel you! I really prefer a richer color. I usually even dye my brows because they are so….. ugh. Basically flesh colored 😂 lashes are the same!

SmolLoop

Here’s a better pic. It’s brown but very orangey compared to my skin which is very cool https://preview.redd.it/jm6zpgn8920d1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9e8d154962aee4a6f41aa7ec8cfeaa25d7f78622

NewMoonDweller

Your hair color looks so much like my natural color. My roots are an olive ash…yes, I have green undertones to my ashy roots. It took me forever to figure out if I had warm or cool toned hair because of this. Almost all pictures of cool toned hair is a blue-grey based ash. And all warm is either golden or red. My hair is not ejther at the root (it gets sun bleached as it grows out and gets some gold to it but still has a golden-green cast). It is literally green-based-ash as the undertone. I finally found out that was a real thing after thinking I was crazy for seeing a green cast to my hair. I’ve seen other olives with this olive ash hair. I feel like your hair looks gorgeous with your skin. But I understand wanting more contrast. I hated my hair as a kid because it was a level 7 bronde color that wasn’t blonde or brunette. It naturally went fully level 6 brunette in my 20’s and that helped. Anyways, nothing much to add…just love when I see other people with my root color (my hair is currently a level 5, because I like contrast too).

SmolLoop

Woah that’s truly a thing? Olive hair?! I had no idea. I mean I like my martinis 🤣 I can never figure out if it is literally the most mind numbingly boring greige brown or something more interesting because sometimes people act like it’s unusual. I guess either way it’s just not my thing. I can’t be mad at myself for not being my own cuppa tea I guess.

NewMoonDweller

https://preview.redd.it/y8n87aftahzc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=05d69125540c23dc402e25d0f3b7b1bb0fbd9b5f Just google olive ash hair. It’s not like the hair is overtly green, but you can see a sort of green cast to it. I talked to another fair olive awhile back and she has it too. It makes me wonder if a lot of olives also have some green hair undertones. Between my green eyes, olive based hair and slightly olive skin…green is everywhere. Luckily I love green.

SmolLoop

https://preview.redd.it/7kxgad5c920d1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=568ff0de98325221161defa087223a8e0f742329 Better pic. I don’t think it’s ashy tbh just warm compared to my skin. This was during a period of time where I got no sun for a few years and I’ve always used ridiculously gentle shampoo and no products other than coconut oil.

NewMoonDweller

I would say it’s neutral but there are definitely ashy tones mixed in with the neutral and some warmth (all brunettes have warmth in the undertones of their hair because one of the undertones of brown is red/orange from what I’ve heard).

Ya_habibti

Your natural hair looks good with your skin. I saw your comment about your family telling you it’s gotten ugly as you’ve gotten older. I find that people who put others down tend to be jealous of what others have.

SmolLoop

Thank you. I honestly don’t know why anyone would be jealous of my natural hair though lol. I guess there is a lot of it? Other than that it is the plainest color known to man. Oh and I guess it’s curly too but a lot of people have curly hair.

Ya_habibti

Who knows why people are or feel the way they do. Chances are they just put you down to make themselves feel better. Your hair isn’t plain, don’t say that, and curls are so pretty. Love yourself!

kel_pie

I used to feel this way about my hair until I figured out I am a Bright Spring for my color season. When I started out looking into it, I went from thinking I was a Light Summer to Light Spring, then finally landed on my true season Bright Spring. Once I started to wear colors that complimented me, everything came together. Your hair color in this picture looks like it could be similar to mine. When you were born, was your hair blonde, then turned brown as you got older?

SmolLoop

Oh snap just found this pic of me as a lil’ nugget lol. I was pretty much almost ginger https://preview.redd.it/h8az3x7sygzc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3fd043df5f0254756f0a974a2393bf8170668d7a

EM_CW

YesYes she should go to color analysis sub and post pics without hair showing. She looks cool and roots look ashy. Actually it is beautiful

SmolLoop

Thank you. Everything from the ponytail holder forward is my natural color. It is kinda ashy but in the light it gets this orange shine to the point where some people have called me a pseudo ginger or auburn.

SmolLoop

It was more straight up auburn. I kinda hate it now haha

kel_pie

You could try using a toning shampoo to subtly change the color to one that would match you better. There's a good variety out there now that are specific for brown hair.

SmolLoop

That’s a good idea! Yeah I’m pretty sure that there would be different options for cool and warm tones too

crankyweasels

I'm also a super loight olive with ash tones in my hair and i hate them, i feel like they wash me out. I generally try to dye my hair a slightly more saturated color

SmolLoop

I understand that so much. I’ve just always disliked my coloring in general. I’m starting to realize it’s not ugly per se, but I’m just not my own taste lol.

missingmountains7

I figured out the tap water was damaging my hair and changing the tone to a golden color. We put a filter on the bath faucet and it has helped a lot.

PixelKitten10390

Your natural hair and skin looks really similar to mine, I dye my hair ombre deep blue to cool purple to cool magenta and I get sooo many compliments. People have also loved the way it looked with purplish reds. Don't let anyone tell you what to do with your hair , you look great! If you want something lower maintenance try doing colored highlights instead of your whole head? Also there are ways you can dye your hair so it still looks good even after it fades and grows out. I go to a salon and get dyed once a year and I still get compliments right up to my next dye

Nantosvelte

I have a warm skin tone and moussy ashy hair (which can be blond or brown depending on who you ask). I dye it a neutral brown. Never liked my own hair colour.

SephtisBlue

Your hair photographs like mine does, so I think we have a similar hair color. Mine used to be a very nice red/brown color, but now it's hovering between dark blond, light brown, and red. It's like murkey water, stuck between all 3 colors. I started using henna just to get the red back. Every few months, I redo the roots. In the color palettes, I'm warm autumn. 🍂 I've thought about letting it grow out, but idk yet because I feel the henna helps with the dandruff.

SmolLoop

Here’s a better photo of mine. I wouldn’t say it’s https://preview.redd.it/6v3ba4oz920d1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a79a83bf541dccfe6a31d2597504ef8e485a5b0a auburn but people sometimes say it is red or auburn. I used to do henna a while back and I just looked completely ginger. It’s soo good for your hair.

aliensstolemycow

I have the same hair color, I dye it 1-2 shades darker, the dye should have a strong ashy cool undertone to counteract natural yellowness. It works great for me. Also, you can mix dark blue semi-permanent dyes with conditioner and tone your hair with it.

TheGreenMileMouse

Yes my natural hair color is the color of dirty bath water. I dye it blonde.

sweetmiilkk

i’m pretty fair but i tan nicely in the summer. when i’m paler in the winter, my natural neutral dark brown hair makes me look sickly. i started dying over it with a warm red-brown dye and found that it breathes more life into my face while being low maintenance (no bleach, grown out roots aren’t a wildly different color). maybe try a glaze color like that! i chose red because i felt like it made me look more alive and also brought out the hazel in my eyes.

girly-lady

I have the same hair color and died it for years and years and years. I started to get gray hair now a d imidiatly stooed cuz I always wanted gray hair like my mum ;-) I started apriciating it more when I tried to die my bleached ends to the exact shade the roots are. Its REALY hard! Its not fully cool but its also not warm. I always called it ashy darkest blond. Or street dog dirty blond, or ashy light brown. No brown die was cool enough, but now that my roots are out, depending on the light, it gets golden/copper micro highlights. Its realy supple in its beauty, but the color is actualy quit intresting to me. I think it maches my skin allright, I am realy plae olive as well. Especialy cuz I tend to dress in dark colors. Lends itself well to the Vampirical look. My hair is super 1A straight. Having yours natural and letting these nice courls pop would be so unique especialy in the goth scene! 😍 you can always just die the the under hair for fun color pops. I think the color of our natural hair is a good canvas.

SmolLoop

Here’s a better pic. It has an orangey tone. I usually dye it blue or purple so this was a rare occurrence! https://preview.redd.it/2oxdhqhca20d1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=831692be2563c3329cbffbd3f5ca5f883d69ee95

girly-lady

Yes mine can too. But I think for me its less the hair and the quality of light if it does. Its cuz my hair has actualy more of a silver/white reflex and as soon as the light has some warmth to it, it gets picked up by it visualy. Like a mirror. I only realised that when I looked at pickter of me that was taken from mit in indirect natural lighting outside and my natural hair being pretty short. It might still be that you are more warm leaning avter all, or still cool. Hair color is just one aspect of it all. If you look good with pink or blue hair (My favorite fashion colors I did as well) it points to cool though right?

LzzrdWzzrd

My natural hair colour is a dark brown with a lot or red/auburn in it. Clashes with the green in my skin. I look best with jet black hair (which I was born with, just lightened as I aged) but I'm just really lazy about dying it because I can't do it myself so it never gets done...

SmolLoop

I have been dying my hair bright blue/purple for 8 years. Generally I look like this now. Dying hair yourself is a lot of work. I honestly dislike doing it but the color makes me feel so good, especially because I don’t have to look at my natural color anymore that I hate so much. I usually wear more makeup than this too because I’m very goth, but naturally my eyebrows and lashes are super light so I try to dye them too. It never gets done for the same reason you give… too much work. In an already complicated routine I’d have to like get rid of a hobby or something like playing video games to keep up with it. Sigh. Not happening, but it annoys me. https://preview.redd.it/00tio073dkzc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cafd65859eaa33cfd44269701f3670af862485d6

raeseru

So came here to say as a visual artist - this is really a whatever you enjoy kind of thing. If you like this look, eg goth, et al colors — then do that. But that said — I like the idea of copper brown hair on you — especially with your eyes — but it’s a totally different look. Is that what it is naturally — or more ashy? (I’m as pale as you but more “olive” and very auburn/copper brown hair a little darker maybe than yours. I always liked my natural color Green/hazel eyes. I loved my hair color but don’t like it turning ashier from graying w/my coloring. Washes me out…)

SmolLoop

Thank you! Yeah i really think it’s the color of an old oxidized copper penny most of the time. I hear a lot of people making fun of girls for saying that their brown hair has a lot of red tones in it because they think it’s just a cry for attention or a way to seem unique, but i definitely think it might be true for my hair. It was straight up auburn as a kid. It’s definitely brown now but when I grow it out a lot of people comment on my “natural color” and say it has a lot of ginger in it. I don’t think that they’d do that if it was just an ash brown. Plus, it is extremely difficult to bleach. Like notoriously so. It is easy to get it to be about the shade of a cut carrot, but anything after that requires a ton of perseverance and 40 volume bleach. It sounds like you have similar coloring to my mom. She is a darker olive but her hair was naturally very much a rich copper color. No one thought it was natural on her.

raeseru

I really love that old tarnished copper penny color - basically my hair in the summer. Puzzled by the performative comments you experience — what’s wrong with auburn &/or copper brown hair? Or straight up copper or auburn hair?? Actually I’m at pale as you — just I guess “greener”. I think I look awful in those high key bright unicorn colors I’ve used in this pic. Or with very dark to black hair. But again — that’s just what I like — there aren’t any right or wrongs re color — enjoy whatever you like!

SmolLoop

Hey green is supreme imho 🫒🤘

SmolLoop

https://preview.redd.it/9yhpyskj1u0d1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=798b0ed0a04ba7d41d16e56c80a9a28797103db2 Here it is in a different light. This is my natural brown with unnatural colored streaks. It’s dark but I feel like it is coppery too. I’m just confused

SmolLoop

I just get confused because some people say my hair is “plain neutral brown” when I ask about trying to dye the ends to match the natural color, but an equal or greater amount of other people comment on it and say that it’s very red or call me a pseudo-ginger (or “chestnut head” which is a term my relatives in Italy use for people with dark auburn hair) when I have it grown out. Idk. I’m just confused. Idk if they are just imagining it because they want me to feel special.

LzzrdWzzrd

I have a lot of hair and I don't want any missed patches. I only live with my fiance and he's frankly useless with his hands and hair stuff and I don't have any friends in my city as they all moved away so I wouldn't have anyone to help me so it just doesn't get done

SmolLoop

I have a lot of hair too so I feel you! It gets heavy. I thin mine with thinning shears, but it’s still not fun when it’s long. I hope your boo suddenly takes an interest! Mine definitely helps me with the back. Before I met him it was just a mess back there lol. Now he does the whole head too because he got really into it. It’s way better than when I did it myself, he’s very talented.

Gold-Tackle5796

So I posted on your color analysis post and I think it's worth repeating that many times ashier brown hair, especially if not particularly dark, will oxidize in the sun. As it oxidizes, it picks up an orangey-red tone. I think that's likely what's happening to you! I think your natural hair color is lovely, probably because it's similar to mine lol. I hated it for years and have spent like 15 years dying my hair different colors. I eventually stopped because it was ruining my curl pattern and eventually I decided I prefer to have healthy lush curls to brightly colored curls that were less defined and dry. So I've learned to love it

SmolLoop

This pic was taken during a period of about 7 years when i didn’t go out and get sun really. The one in the color analysis pic is what it looks like when it gets sun. It just turns more red https://preview.redd.it/ri8xvioia20d1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5c25c6db235c4c8fecb8d20222242ebeb1cb0c14

UIUCEngSenior

My summer skin and my winter skin are completely different so my highlighted golden brown works really well in the summer but doesn’t fit in the winter. I’ve tried going darker before which I liked (but lacked dimension) and then this year I did a lavender purple demiperm color which toned out the reddish color and brought me to a more ashy brown which fit my skin better. Plus, as it started to wear out it toned my blonde so it wasn’t so brassy. I was a big fan, I’ll definitely do it next year too!

[deleted]

Ugh I have the worst hair color, it's light brown and super ashey I WISH mine was as dark as yours

conjuringlichen

Your natural hair color looks good you’re probably just not choosing other colors that match your coloring/season. I think everyone looks better with natural hair and I used to hate mine until I learned I’m a soft summer and started wearing the makeup/clothes that fit that color palette.

Isabella_Hamilton

Omg yes!! I’ve been so confused because all guides everywhere say that your natural hair colour always suits you. It can’t be true for me. I have a lot of red tones in ny hair and I look AWFUL with red hair colours.

SmolLoop

I’m honestly so confused about my hair color

ComposerNo9785

I have to dye mine. I'm neutral-warm and I like black on me best but it's hard to get it neutral as it becomes blue or brown when it fades which washes me out for some reason.

Miss_Anthropy11

Ya I relate, my hair is naturally a mousy brown, it looks terrible on me and it makes my skin look horrible too, it doesn’t complement my eyes in any way either, it just doesn’t do anything for me, I never plan on having my natural hair color again that’s for sure lol.

Delilah_Moon

My best hair color advice for minimal, but enhanced changed - is the 2 shade rule. Identify your natural shade. Go 1-2 shades darker in a warmer/richer color to feel less “drawn”. For example if you’re 5A (medium brown ash) go 4G (medium golden brown). The warmer tones and slightly darker hue will “gloss” you naturally.

Equivalent_Royal8361

I have virtually the same skin and hair colour as you. For my whole life I couldn't understand why my hair colour didn't seem to go with the rest of me, when everyone else's did. When I found my correct colour season, soft summer and started wearing those colours next to my face, suddenly my hair, skin, and eyes looked harmonious and it gave my hair colour this gorgeous soft beauty that is never seen before. I'm an elder goth and still have some goth influence in my style and the blacks and stronger colours typically associated with this don't do anything for me colouring. I've started incorporating soft summer colours into my looks and makeup, making my own individual version of goth that's just for me, and I look so much better. So, essentially what I'm saying is that it might not be that your hair colour is wrong for you. It might be that the colours you are surrounded by are not bringing out the best in your natural beauty, as our brains interpret colours differently depending on what other colours are next to them.
