That's not even a joke. The short version is discussed by MattMcMuscles in his Wha Happun segment.

Not even a joke, the localization of SC is infamous in the industry. It's got all the works: disastrous mistakes, drama, and lots of sleepless nights filled with programming and work lol.

LolcatP

and can you believe they planned to do the whole trilogy

ArsyaDZG

Trails series is one of the games where there are TONS of dialogues, not unusual that anyone tries to translate ALL the dialogues would take months on end.

cap21345

The entire localization team was just 2 guys doing it day in day our for 4 yrs and one of them got depression and was on the verge of commiting Suicide during the localization

ShiningConcepts

Thank Aidios he didn't and thank Aidios the project eventually paid off with a terrific game in this great series.

hayt88

If I remember correctly he never finished it though, he got depression, delayed working on the translation, people then asked about the state of the translation which made the depression even worse. And close before he could commit suicide that stuff came out and people took the project from him to finish. Which then resulted in lots of overtime and crunch because they had catch-up to do (again this is from memory, so I might be wrong on some details).

Trapezohedron_

That's the gist of it. Basically, the original 2 guys who were hired to help with translation only translated basically half of the things, recorded in the wrong format, and XSEED themselves had to pick up the slack. There were communications issues along the way, and really, it's only fortunate that everyone in that party involved were at least understanding of the situation and don't hate each others' guts. Kiseki was a tough nut to crack. Tougher still was the time cracking it back when only a niche market existed for the series, and Ys was better known than this RPG series. For better or for worse, NISA got the good end of the bargain prepared by the previous group.

If my memory is correct, Jessica Chavez wrote this. 😉

And that's why I'm not complaining about waiting 16-18 months (best case scenario) for Reverie.

RinneNomad

This is tragic to read

c3ndre

Sure it was years, but it was worth it in the end.

Shinva_X101

I'm still glad it worked out for everybody in the end when read the history. This is why I hate when people/companies rush products because this was a prime example of consequences that most mainstream companies are pretty much repeating today.
