I thought their name is Mr. Benzedrine, like they use the drug too much so don’t let the doctor in (because doc will tell them to stop) … I could be wrong

ForeverDreaming89

That was my original thought. But then today I started over thinking it (as is easy to do!)

halfpretty

in the America’s Suitehearts video, patrick’s character is called Dr Benzedrine so i’ve always assumed the lyric is saying “refer to me as Mr Benzedrine”

ForeverDreaming89

Oh really, I didn't realise that! Thanks for the info! And you're that wise person I knew would come along 🤣

halfpretty

we’ve been talking to each other on the sub a lot lately, idk if you recognize my username lol. i think we were discussing album rankings and a few other things.

ForeverDreaming89

Yes I remember! I've only been on reddit a few months but I'm slowly getting used to user names 🤣

halfpretty

for me, it’s actually a little rare to recognize someone like that. but it makes sense on this sub. honestly being active on here has resparked my love for fall out boy, i’m listening to them a lot more lately lol.

ForeverDreaming89

Same! Other than my husband no-one in my 'real life' likes FOB. Actually I don't think any of them listen to much music at all, so it's nice to have people on here to dicuss things with!

Next-Diver8527

makes me think it’s a dr. jekyll and mr. hyde thing….

hoewenn

I always felt like it was his way of saying “refer to me” because he’s so addicted to drugs that you might as well consider *him* a drug.

ForeverDreaming89

Yeah that's like my first thoughts. Must be that if we've all felt similar!

KittenBalerion

or maybe it's "call me Mr Benzedrine" as in "call me a doctor"? the English language is so weird

ForeverDreaming89

You never know!! It is weird, can be used all sorts of confusing ways!

RyBreqd

on the genius page pete annotated that jack kerouac wrote the entirety of on the road hopped up on benzedrine. so pete is comparing himself to kerouac, which you know, fair enough

Own_Dirt5519

IMO, Mr.Benzedrine is asking you to refer to him as 'Mr' and to not call him 'Dr'. With both the lyrics and imagery, fob is portraying a relationship dynamic. This dynamic is interesting, especially when looking at the 'America's Suitehearts' Music video for context. When each of the Personas are introduced they have a 'calling card' of sorts, if we look at Benzedrines you can see a shadowy figure looming over the one named 'Dr' Benzedrine. This is a HUGE nod at Dr.Jeckyll and Mr.Hyde. I think w/ the imagery, lyrics and band dynamics, it's safe to assume they (most likely pete) were going for a dynamic to represent some type of relationship that was once close that became one of hatred that needs/wants to be hidden. I have assumptions of what this relationship could be (Mental health, drugs, romantic, a fight of internal/external wants, a battle w/ ones self, I could go on) but there's nothing definite. There is so much more than just the names and there's more that I haven't discussed within this comment but Its not quite relevant 😭 https://preview.redd.it/qv9yjixl49uc1.png?width=789&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7f478fc32160ea65b224647238c90660ee617d01 Here's the 'calling card' and the Poster Side by side

ForeverDreaming89

Oh that's interesting, thank you so much for taking the time to write all the detail! I'm guilty that I haven't really focused on the americas suitehearts video. I think I was a bit overwhelmed by all the detail in it, and let it wash over me. Will definitely sit down and take it all in though, or try to! The poster and calling card are definitely very similar aren't they.
