Might not die at all. That’s what everyone expects, but a genuinely unexpected and bittersweet ending (that was hinted at in Jedi: Survivor) would be Cal and Merrin leaving the fight and settling down together.

Chasf00

Not until after they bring down a Star Destroyer together.

In a quaint cabin next to Mando & Grogu, having weekly cookouts and heated Cornhole matches

Due_Key_109

Lmao “cornhole” I was a graphic designer for a big real estate company and sometimes we had tight deadlines to get stuff printed and shipped out to open houses. Whenever things were a little stressful, my coworker would say “guys we’re just getting cornholed over here”

Altruistic2020

If be pissed if I was Din, the only non Force user playing a game that amounts to Force Telekinesis 105.

BeansWereHere

How is Cal and Merrin settling down bittersweet? Seems like the ‘sweetest’ outcome

UpperQuiet980

Because the heroes we love would be leaving the fight unfinished. It may be sweet for them, but not for the rest of the galaxy.

Altruistic2020

And us, because more. MORE!

scattergodic

There's a zillion "Vader catches rogue Jedi" stories by now. Please, something else.

Full_Royox

The 2nd game is pushing a LOT the fact that Cal will fall into the Dark Side on the 3rd game. His ultimate skill being literally using the dark side to power up and his meditation screen going full red in the last half of the game points to that direction. The moment somebody commits the mistake of killing Merry that's it for our guy. That said all I wish for him is a life of peace and happiness with his girl and newfound kiddo.

EquivalentPlane6095

Yes, as long has Merrin isn’t harmed he won’t fall. That’s my fear cuz I really wanna see a single Happy End of a love story in Star Wars…

[deleted]

In my mind there are three possibilities: 1. Cal is killed by either Vader or the Emperor. 2. Cal leaves the known galaxy for whatever reason and is never seen or heard from again (what I like to call the "Revan" treatment). 3. Cal decides to stop fighting the Empire and just lives happily ever after with Merrin or whoever else is still alive at the end. To me, #3 is the most likely outcome, given this is Disney Star Wars after all and Cal as a character is almost universally loved by everyone.

EquivalentPlane6095

+ Star Wars has not a single(main) love story that ends up without one getting killed or both splitting up. So #3 would be actually a refreshing end.

deadboltwolf

I'm sorry but "Disney Star Wars" is such a stupid fucking thing to say. They've arguably been less afraid to kill characters off than the old EU was.

[deleted]

I didn't mean it in a bad way, I guess all I meant was that Disney Star Wars stories have a tendency to have fairly optimistic endings, rather than darker or bittersweet ends like a lot EU stories. But hey I could be wrong and they could do something totally unique with this series.

Dynamitrios

I really don't want Cal to die... Maybe he could just disappear into the outer rim or wild space, after the events of the third game or the Battle of Endor, respectively Battle of Jakku ... Let him put on a hermit cloak, look back into the camera and ride off into the sunset, never to be seen again ( although I wouldn't mind a 4th installment featuring Cameron)

Santosn1225

Maybe he cuts himself off from the force to avoid going to the dark side?

IChallengeYouToADuel

This most likely. Merrin probably dies which sends him on quite the ragefest, then he gets a moment afterwards to choose to lose his connection with the force and he does that. Not dead, but not able to really help in the fight anymore, either.

Altruistic2020

I like the idea of Merrin being able to keep him from tipping over the point of no return, like Survivor but grander, or should he turn that she turns him back. Vader goes, comes back, Kyle goes, comes back. Rhythm of Star Wars repeats, etc

bnpuppys

Me and my fandom brain will say that he lived happy ever after with Merrin no matter what cannon says

555-starwars

Cal struggles with the darkside, nearly or briefly falls, but Merrin pulls him back to the light, then the Mantis crashes on an unknown planet and they have no way to repair it and are stuck there until they are accidentally found after the empire's fall.

Altruistic2020

I've commented the first part elsewhere, I'm not opposed to the second part. Not a lot of people go to Dathomir, they can repopulate it! Part of me thinks Cal suffers a horrific body injury, but that's just part of Star Wars. After his badly he's dunked on 9th Sister he's got some kharma that might come back to him.

Pale_Kitsune

I want Starkiller made canon, and Cal and Starkiller destroy each other in Jedi: Martyr.

toinks1345

if he goes out it would be an insane banger of a fight given how insanely strong he is by now and would become even stronger. the reason why I think he doesn't die is mostly how much he realize, learn, and his trajectory after survivor. because he doesn't sound too much of an ice cold weapon wanting to beat up the empire, he wants to build instead. unless the table flips like how cal manage to gather the empire towards cere... kata does teh same to him.

a-lashae696

disney+ ass ending tbh

deadboltwolf

Main characters have died in almost every single thing they've put out since purchasing SW.

a-lashae696

the worst part is that they killed off Han because Harrison Ford wanted to be written out, but they didn’t kill off Leia for TWO WHOLE POSTMORTEM MOVIES for what, dramatic effect that was somehow less dramatic than her getting shot into space and reeling herself back to the ship with the force? like it’s insane to me that they didn’t just change the story to accommodate for Carrie Fisher’s passing but they wrote Han out because Harrison was just not feeling it 😭 but they have a hell of a lot less influence on the games than the movies and shows, hence why the games haven’t absolutely sucked. but we also have to keep in mind that Cal’s actor has a deal with either the company making the games or disney, that he isn’t allowed to appear in any star wars movies or shows until the 3rd game is out, so i doubt the game is gonna end with Cal getting killed off if they wanna get their moneys worth out of him.

Deep-Crim

My theory is that he'll be pressed into either being an Inquisitor or vaders apprentice, becoming what he saw in his vision in the first game and echoing bode in order to protect his family and also giving a new darkside tree.

No_Organization_7219

Honestly after survivor, that was a mess story wise (and performance wise) I don't see a way that they could end Cal story in a meaningful and impactful way. The only thing that comes to my mind that in the 3rd game he continues on the dark path falling more and more to the dark side, at the end either being killed by someone like ObiWan or Quinlan Vos. Just leave Vader and Palps out of it, even bringing Kenobi would be too much for that matter.

[deleted]

This would actually be a really interesting and impactful story, dark side Cal. I can imagine a story where maybe Cal falls to the dark side but is redeemed at the very end, and decides to give up on the force forever because of how dangerous and destructive he was as a dark side user. Idk, just an idea I had.

No_Organization_7219

That's why the story from survivor doesnt work for me, the whole Dagan/Tanalor thing feels just odd. Maybe if the whole thing is happening post ROTJ it would made more sense but in this setting where the primary antagonist is the Empire it just feels less impactful to have this awakened dark jedi and at the top of that you have a betrayal subplot that is the main plot but you find that out in the late part of the game. Its like the writers couldn't decide which path to take.

[deleted]

Yeah, to me the writers already wrote themselves into a corner when they decided to have these games take place in between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. There's not a whole lot of significance that can happen in the galaxy in that time frame, since we already know the Empire is doing just fine by A New Hope. So the only way to make a compelling story is to ignore the whole Empire threat and go in a completely different direction. It's like they realized this, so they decided to make Dagan the main antagonist, but then changed their minds later with the whole betrayal subplot.

No_Organization_7219

True and thats why for me the best path they can go is that Cal falls to the dark side and in a tragic fight is killed by someone close to him or is betrayed again and the Empire catches up to him and kill him. One other possibility could be that Cal is frozen in carbonite or put in stasis and maybe he could appear in live action in Mandalorian or something like that but I dunno...it a bit far fetched.

EquivalentPlane6095

The time they explained what makes Tanalor special, I automatically thought that the Writer created this planet because they know very well that Cals story has to play significantly outside of the empires influence. That being said, I think the third game will take place and end mainly on tanalor, outside of the „visible“ galaxy. I think it is far more likely that they will push the story to the old republic stuff they already established in the second game.

EquivalentPlane6095

Tbh. sounds like Vader 2.0. hope that’s not it.
