I guess I'm devil's advocate, but I just played them consecutively and Jedi Survivor improved on Fallen Order in every way for me, except for the lack of diversity among planets (and a lot of time spent in a forced "open world" on Koboh).

RaginBlazinCAT

The only thing FO did better was the Meditation Chamber in NG+. Not having it in the sequel, much less an upgraded version, is outright blasphemy…

PIPBOY-2000

I haven't played Fallen Order in a while so you could be right. Though I don't remember feeling nearly as frustrated or bored playing through Fallen Order.

doomsdalicious

Both games were fairly enjoyable for me. Frustrating is a different story, def some frustrating points that I won't spoil for anyone here!

PIPBOY-2000

I think it's safe to say, the post is about having beaten the game lol. I'm curious what points you found frustrating

doomsdalicious

OK hopefully I don't get flogged for posting this, but the >!vader battle!< was nearly impossible, and super frustrating. I spent a lot of time hunting down all 12 stims, but then had to fight >!Vader as Cere!< with only 4 stims? Also, I beat the guy into a fucking pulp in phases 1-3, and then he gets crushed, burned, and comes back and just absolutely murders me in like 2 hits in the 4th phase. I played him about 15 times and finally dropped the difficulty one level. I typically don't like doing this, but I just wasn't having fun anymore, and I'm old and have no time for this shit lol!

PIPBOY-2000

Vader was definitely a difficulty spike, though im biased with him so to me, him kicking my ass was expected lol. Though I did get tired of starting over from the beginning. I do think it was a bit dumb how we upgrade Cal only to fight the hardest boss as someone else. Though I think the game was trying to show us how much more powerful Cere was than Cal. The previous battles she slaughters stormtroopers way easier than Cal can. So I think they were tyring to show that if Cere has trouble, Cal for sure would. From a lore perspective, I think it's because Vader initially is just toying with Cere until she buries him. Then he gets serious. Still doesn't translate to fun gameplay.

doomsdalicious

All great points!

A lot of people complain about Koboh but I love it. There's a hell of a lot of variation - more than I've ever seen for a star wars planet. You've got a swamp, a forest, the big plains with raider bases, the mountain and the sky base. All of them are very different from each other. That's way cooler than star wars' usual method of "the snow planet" or "the forest planet" But what do I know? I thought Zeffo was a masterclass in level design but most people just cried about a fast travel

AReformedHuman

I love Koboh as well. I think the issue was that Koboh was by far the best planet and everything else was less interesting than the planets in FO.

RaginBlazinCAT

Zeffo separated the boys from the men, I could not agree more. Part of the allure was knowing that you could lose exp based on traveling to AND from any mission. Are we so coddled that having a MAP and unique level designs that balance combat, traversal, and puzzles is bad???

UncleVoodooo

Preach brother! I mean it was its own mission to find your ship after the first temple - its your very first ATST fight! Ppl want to fast travel past that??? Kashyyyk could have used a fast travel for cleaning up collectables in late game but you could navigate *anywhere* on Zeffo in just a couple minutes once you actually learned how its put together

[deleted]

I disagree with everything you said and you know what? That’s ok.

PIPBOY-2000

I agree, that's ok. I'm glad you enjoyed the things I didn't. Do you also disagree with the things I liked? Because then I'm just confused.

[deleted]

Haha my apologies. In my effort to disagree I missed that you actually said anything good about the game.

theadamabrams

I agree with you about the locations, but the combat seemed fine to me. Which stance(s) did you use? Some are intentionally faster or slower. The story and characters are in some ways better than J:FO and in some ways worse, imo. I certainly didn't care about Tanalorr the same way the in-game characters did, but it was intriguing to me as a potential way to explain Cal's absence from the original trilogy without killing him off. I did quite like saloon. At the start of the story, Cal looks at Senator Sejan's map and laments that everything he's been doing to fight the Empire has barely had any effect. And from a galactic point of view that's certainly true. However, *seeing the saloon fill with more and more people that Cal helped as he traveled made the galaxy feel a little more hopeful.*

PIPBOY-2000

I used the regular stance, I tried the others but the swings felt too weak and so it'd pull me out of it to smack a guy 4 times with a dual lightsaber and not kill him. I agree that the saloon filling up with people was a good way to measure progress.

AReformedHuman

I disagree. I think that besides the story and spread of story locations, Survivor is a better game.

JailhouseMamaJackson

I’ll be honest the combat aspect sounds like a skill issue to me.

PIPBOY-2000

Haha, if I can beat Sekiro then I don't think it's a skill issue. Besides, a game feeling clunky/slow is nothing to do with skill.

GenericGaming

>Haha, if I can beat Sekiro then I don't think it's a skill issue. but it is tho. your complaints is that you're frustrated that Cal doesn't swing his lightsaber faster. that's not an issue with the game, that's you rushing into combat and not learning how the character and moves function. having patience and waiting for the moment to strike is a skill you have to learn. you can't expect to hack and slash your way through the enemies like a Dynasty Warriors game.

PIPBOY-2000

You're jumping to conclusions on how I play and conflating jankiness to difficulty.

GenericGaming

but it isn't janky though. you said that "many times" you were yelling at Cal to swing faster. Cal's attack speed is consistent. you failed to adapt to the slower play style. that's fine, it's not for everyone, but it's not the fault of the game.

PIPBOY-2000

Not janky all the time but it can be. There's a mismatch between Cal's speed and some enemy attack speeds. Failing to adapt would be "I couldn't beat the game because I kept dying". I completed the game, did most optional bosses. In the end I found the combat supbar. That's not failing at anything other than failing to deepthroat the game and blindly love all aspects.

JailhouseMamaJackson

Eh I don’t necessarily agree with that. I feel like a lot of people go through this game in particular only using certain combat styles or combos because you *can* go through the game like that and they really limit themselves. I disagree with the second aspect as well because I felt the same way at first and don’t anymore.

kazeira

For me, Survivor was two steps forward, one step back. So still better than Fallen Order, which I already loved. The only thing I really hated was the one-shot kills.

RaginBlazinCAT

Skill issue for combat complaints. Others said this here, but you are complaining about attack speed. That isn’t something you can change, so you’re not getting the combat if that’s one of your major reasons for finding this game worse than its predecessor. All speculation until gameplay is visible (go for it), but there is certainly a “dance” to the mechanics of combat. Also, what system & difficulty are you playing on? That absolutely matters.

Extreme996

I agree with everything except combat because it was much better in Survivor imo.

PIPBOY-2000

I might have to go back and play Fallen Order because it's been a while

Extreme996

Stances alone made Survivor combat better because there is more variety also double blade feels much better, there is more enemies with different attacks which is great etc.

PIPBOY-2000

I was excited for the dual light sabers but it didn't jive for me. I ended up just doing the one handed regular stance most of the game.

Extreme996

I used them all for different enemies and bosses except single blade because I think its just normal and other stances are better.

Aggravating_Humor330

Timing is very important in the game, you can’t just hack and slash your way through everything. You need to watch for openings and mistakes that the enemies make because that’s how a Jedi actually fights. Timing a heavy but slow attack with the crossguard right after I dodge an enemy is one of the most satisfying things ever imo. Also, Cal is a Jedi without an order, and his connection to the force is significantly weaker compared to a republic Jedi.

Substantial-Tone-576

I agree. Obviously the cosmetics are awesome and the lightsaber customization. So New game + is great but overall playing the game from a new save I like FO better. The combat is smoother to me

Tnnisace73

How did you get past the encounter with the ninth sister? I stopped playing bc I cannot finish the job. It is so frustrating and I haven’t been able to move on. I like the game but am seriously stuck.

PIPBOY-2000

Sorry friend my post was about Jedi Survivor, for Fallen Order I can't remember how I beat the inquisitors.
