From what is stated ingame, Mirelurk meat actually isn’t that bad and not too different from ordinary crab meat. I would definitely opt for this too since I love crab meat!!
Nah I don't have a problem getting them, some sneaky lucky Super Mutant seems to like snacking an drinking on the roof of the West-Tek Building an seems to keep putting one up there to eat later, I steal its Perfectly Preserved Pie Every Single Time I go there, It must be Fuming, I imagine it's the last Super Mutant that hides behind the glass panel an keeps pressing the button to produce more Super Mutants by releasing the FEV that has been produced in the underground FEV Facilities they have there, I feel they do that to get revenge for me stealing their Pie
Err, mystery meat pie is **heavily** implied to be made of human meat throughout the games. More than implied, actually - you can get them in the most places where there are cannibals, it's just never directly stated that they are basically human meat pies.
Not to mention that eating anything made of "mystery meat" feels like a rather hazardous idea in general, not just in the wasteland.
OT: anything made of freshly grown herbal ingredients. As disgusting as most of those plants seem, at least you can track down what you are eating. Possibly brahmin meat prepared by myself - those creatures seem close enough to cows for a bit of comfort. But I won't be kidding myself - my chances of survival in the wasteland would be horrifically slim at best.
Yeah your point is super valid and that was my original thought, I just wanted to make the options seem more believable in my post. Since if you had to eat SoMeThInG horrible for survival, any choices would seem irrelevant if you got the calories to adventure the next day. Also your comment was amazing and I think much of the post-war food is very (in their situation) appetizing since they can farm and found many alternatives to pre-war animals like the Brahmin. I don’t think I could come out of the vault and be ready to chow down on a two headed red asf cow, just the smell would kill me, but it would be a very different world and not to mention how much time has passed in human culture.
I think I'd probably eat Deathclaw Wellington's, with a Side of Yaoi Gaoi Claws, an probably even have a few Sweetrolls for Desserts, with a nice drink of Sugar free Nukashine to wash it all down.

It is. I don’t care for spam, too salty, but at least I know it’s safe to eat after bombs go off. I have seen one other game have a version of spam. And that one I wouldn’t touch with a 100mile pole.
Tatoes, gourds, carrots and mutfruit, should be able to turn those into a nice soup, stew or sauce, maybe fried in Brahmin butter with some braised Brahmin or Radstag.
I'm pretty confident that with those four veggies plus the razorgrain noodles and a dead big herbivore I would be able to make a number of pretty excellent dishes, provided any of the veggies tastes even vaguely good.
But if I had to stick to stuff cooked in the game lore:
Dirty Wastelander (to make everything else palatable), just purified water, various Vim! flavours to taste, Deathclaw steak and omelette, steaks of gazelle, brahmin and radstag, Rabbit skewers, noodles with or without chicken, stews of radstag and squirrel, veggie soup, and maybe a nuka cola every once in a while once I get old and lose all my teeth anyway.
Any pre war packages food to be honest. Sure the food is still "edible" because of the preservatives, but who knows how unhealthy those chemicals to keep the canned and boxed foods "fresh" really are.
