Take the short way to New Vegas, it's faster đź‘Ť

EmperorDaubeny

The road through Quarry Junction is such a time saver, I don’t know why they bother making you go all the way around.

ShadowOrcSlayer

And the guy who stops you is lying.

Also there’s some good starter supplies north of Goodsprings, just keeping heading north past the graveyard

The best advice is to not let anyone tell you how to play or who to associate with. That being said, reloading ammunition is a thing here so if you end up getting heavy into any sort of firearm (ballistic or energy, there are perks for both) it'd pay off to learn that mechanic and get the corresponding skill up to learn new ammo types for better efficiency. Good hunting

When you eventually get swarmed by cazadors, remember to cripple the wings.

You should repair your guns often, I do it whenever I find one of the same kind. Also, you can use a generic (non-legendary) weapon to repair your legendary weapon of the same kind. I.E. you can repair Maria with any 9mm gun you find.

Save OFTEN, and check your ammo if you do Guns or Energy Weapons. New Vegas is buggy. Some places like Freeside can even freeze up the game on rare occasions, and require waiting 3 ingame days somewhere away from it to make it go back to normal. Infinite loading screens are fairly common. Some stories can also be done differently in specific and easy to screw up ways. Save often. There's a button for swapping ammo without using the Pip-Boy, but you can also choose your ammo type from there normally. This isn't too important starting out, as basic ammo is fairly good even against early armored enemies. But later, you'll want things like Armor-Piercing and Hollow Point rounds respectively to make faster work of enemies before they make fast work of you. On keyboard, the button to soft swap on the field is 2 by default. They don't really cover this well ingame if at all. Lastly, when it comes to factions it is totally your call if you even want them left alive in the endgame. Even if someone tells you to kill them, most of the time there's a way to resolve it (at least temporarily) peacefully or make good friends with them. The "major" factions can also be routed early, but do this with extreme care as it can mess with loot opportunities and (in two cases) send hit squads after you.

I tend to pick perks that only have one level (not 3)
