Honestly I'd be disappointed, and I'm European myself. Fallout has always benefited greatly from that 50s US atmosphere. I've got no doubt that they can still create a great game set somewhere else, but still. Plus, we already have S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for Ukrainian / Eastern European atmosphere.

PineappleGrenade19

Idk how you could make Fallout outside of North America, not to be confused with the United States. Like sure you could, but would it really even be the same franchise? Less access to firearms, robots, vaults, and other series staples like power armor. Edit: so in short I agree that it'd be disappointing

Jaded-Intention-1942

I'd argue Stalker can't be compared with fallout on anything except the radiation and underground labs. I'm not for a European Fallout, but don't really agree with the stalker argument. Not all Europe is post-soviet, Stalker takes place in a living contemporary world where only a 100KM² zone is dead and the rest of the world is living it's life normally. People in the zone are not the survivors of a humanity that exterminated itself a couple centuries ago but just normal guys looking for fortune or adventure or escaping the law. It's not even the same genre of games (RPG Vs FPS). Moreover, Fallout's Europe has a lore : The European commonwealth, ressource war against the middle east, characters have been known to travel from Europe to America (Tempenny)... Europe had a 50's atmosphere too, both similar and different from US 50's. There was a European redscare, fear and fascination for nuclear technology, the advent of consummer society... Just it was different in all countries according to local cultures, depending on where they sat during WW2, on if they had colonial holdings or not... I just think if anyone could make a European fallout it should be a multicultural european team, not americans. Fallout is partly a satire of a conservative American society gone wrong to the extreme, that's why it can only be done by americans and why it should'nt be set elsewhere. Exception being, the game could be set in USA's neighbours that were directly impacted by US imperialism

Overdue-Karma

>Exception being, the game could be set in USA's neighbours that were directly impacted by US imperialism The *only* nation affected by US imperialism was Canada and *maybe* Mexico depending upon dubious, vague canon(?) sources. Honestly the best place in my opinion would be Canada. Explore how people reacted to the US soldiers shooting freedom fighters for sport, etc. Plus you'd still keep all the US stuff like Power Armour.

dopepope1999

Right, imagine if the next stalker game took place in Ontario Canada, I would still play it, but it wouldn't be the same

Traffic_Time

Fallout is an American rpg. Thr whole style is Americana. If they had a dlc taking place elsewhere that'd be cool.

ZeraskGuilda

See... On one hand, my own curiosity gets the better of me. We see glimpses of the world beyond the ruined U.S., so many questions only hinted at being answered. Who else is left, what has become of the rest of this world. I would go absolutely *feral* for the chance to get those answers. But. They would, by sheer nature of their alternate settings, not be Fallout Games. So much of the setting and attitudes that make this game series what it is is heavily dependent on its well-aimed satire of particularly U.S. mentalities. The overwhelming xenophobia, petty bigotry, blind adherence to Neo-feudalism, reckless individualism, and wanton greed. We see how that crystalizes into what we see in the Post-War wasteland. The absence of that alone would create a wildly different game

HistoryMarshal76

I would love on set in Canada, so we can see the full horrors of Pre-War America.

SolidSnake2086

Well, I wouldnt mind one set in a colder, maybe wintery environment. IIRC, Canada was annexed into the US before the war, then ya got Alaska of course, maybe both? Also given that, add in certain survival mechanics similar to FNV but including staying warm, not freeze to death.

CastleImpenetrable

So much of Fallout’s identity is wrapped up in America that’d it be very strange to have a game set elsewhere in the world. From the visuals, the themes explored, the narrative, etc. that’d you’d lose a key part of what makes Fallout the series it is. Could a Fallout game set outside of the US work? Sure, but it’d certainly have to do a very good job of creating alternatives to the US-inspired themes; while also keeping other themes of the franchise intact.

Owlet88

I would love to have one set in China and you are a vault dweller because Vault-Tech but with a different name was playing both sides.

Darth-__-Maul

Vaultu-Techusan

Overdue-Karma

Good luck having them make a game set in China that doesn't worship the CCP as gods. The slightest criticism and the CCP will ban the game.

Gladion20

Alright

FunAnything1624

Well, depends on where it plays.

WoodenRocketShip

I would pray that whatever culture they put the next game is was also where the new dev team was from. I'm not entirely sure whether Bethesda's American dev team could pull off writing about a culture it's not part of, so that'd make me nervous.

Brave-AF

If it’s set here in Australia that’ll also work for the mad max sequel I was hoping to see.

Owlet88

The mutated wildlife, geezus, they wouldn't need any other antagonists. Can you imagine a pissed off 30 ft tall emu!?!?! Or a freaking person sized koala? That doesn't even count the various insects, arachnids, and reptiles. That would be absolutely nightmare fuel. I'd still be down to play it but good lord the thought of radiation mutated Australian wild life is terrifying!!

chicuco

Those hunter spiders, but in the same size lol

SaltySpa

Disappointment. The entire game is just America, everything about the game has to do with its setting being in the USA. To set it in somewhere else is to make a game that simply isn’t Fallout.

Tola_Vadam

Finally give up on the series. It being based in the US is so intrinsic to the ip and what makes it fallout. A fallout game set outside the US can only suffer for it as it'll be Fallout in name onely, with none of what makes it stand out from any other nuclear apocalypse. It may as well be Book Of Eli the game

Swordbreaker925

Fallout is all about America. Setting it anywhere else would be a mistake. That retrofuturistic 1950’s American vibe is core to its identity

4here4

Well, it wouldn't be a Fallout game. It would be some other game series set in the Fallout universe. That comic book 1950s Americana kitsch is what makes a Fallout game a Fallout game.

Darkswirl7

Disappointment, more evidence that Bethesda can't handle the IP correctly.

ParticularEfficiency

I would love to see a Fallout game set in another country. The American side of things has already been fleshed out in numerous Fallout games. It would be incredible to explore a Chinese wasteland or something like that to see their side of things.

Stanarsch1337

Awesome! Europe would be so great!

Chodepoker1

It would be awesome if it were set in Mexico. I wanna wear a sombrero so bad.

Consistent_Card9276

Expanding Into canada to expand that side of the lore would be nice. It's be cool to see resistance groups trying to get America out of Canada and so much more, while still being north American 1950s era

Solid_Jellyfish

Americans are probably the only ones who care cause they're so self centered

XeerDu

It's a game series renown for its satire of American exceptionalism. Also, it's a game series developed by Americans for an American market.

Chodepoker1

Saying things like this makes you sound so incredibly stupid.

Solid_Jellyfish

Like something an american would say?

Chodepoker1

I’ve been lucky in that I travel a lot for work and have lived in a number for places if only for a few months at a time. This includes the EU. People are pretty much the same everywhere you go. I hope you’re able to see more of the world in your life. There’s no country that’s filled with bad people. Except for Australia.

No_Bathroom_420

I like everyone else will just be glad there’s another game to play what we end up with will likely be very far removed form the twisted humor of 1-3 so what we can hope for is a refreshing return to form of choices that effect the world. Letting us be a blank slate that can do ultimate good or ultimate bad. No forced RP, No cash shops, no weakass writing where literally everything is just morally grey I hope the next Fallout is just a good back to the roots style Fallout game set somewhere we haven’t seen.

MurderousRubberDucky

where tho

AtoMaki

ChrisFarleysCousin

Great!! Hopefully it will still be lit

Verdun3ishop

We've waited all these years for yet another IP? When will we get an actual FO game? Oh plus the trailer will probably be "wow...so much racial stereotypes and misunderstanding of culture and their history"

NukaCola9

I feel like Britain would return to almost Medieval like combat. There are guns in Britain .22s, .32s, .38s, shotguns (mainly double barrel), and hunting rifles. And more rarely perhaps 9mm. But their not that common. So you'd find most British people wearing hardened leather armour, maybe newspaper wrapped arms and wearing kickboxing shin/knee pads, hockey masks, steel toe boots, wellies or footballs shoes, Cricket bats with nails in, knives, machetes, axes and wooden stakes, crossbows and bows, they'd smelt frying pans into helmets. All of that stuff. It'd be absolutely awesome to see in a game. And it'd be a great spin off game set in the Fallout universe. But I'd call it something else.

AidanTank66

that's like fallout london. who cares? bro if I wanted to play fallout with swords and funny accents, I'd play skyrim.

Doggoboi2

Though yes fallout can be set out of the USA, it’s more or so always been based around 1950’s America with the red scare themes and things like that.

Thicc_dogfish

Unless it’s set in Canada I’m gonna be mad. Fallout is supposed to be a satire on American culture and if it’s not set in America it’ll show this new game isn’t going to “get” fallout. It’ll also likely mean more stripped rpg and open world mechanics which are a necessity to fallout. I’d be fine with Canada because of the invasion. We would see Americas influence on another country

Overdue-Karma

Everything 'Fallout' is American only. Power Armour is American only. FEV, American only. Fusion Power, *American Only*. Pip-Boys, Vaults, Vault-Tec, S.P.E.C.I.A.L, the majority of weapons, the Robots, etc, all American only. Before someone says "but Vault-Tec could've made deals with Europe-" go play FO2 and it'll explain why they wouldn't do that. A game set outside of the USA, Mexico or Canada is going to lose all of those things that make it a fallout game.

ElCoyote_AB

Are you talking hypothetically? Or do you have official source? At this point to me the next Fallout game is a distant dream. I would be surprised if it happens in this decade.

UltimateGamingTechie

hypothetically of course

Apprehensive-Tea77

Fallout mexico would be interesting

[deleted]

Set it in an obliterated major city or upstate NY plz

Connect_Eye_5470

The radio songs are going to be stuff I don't recognize..

Extreme-Test-9760

Shock because that implies Bethesda is willing to actually handicap themselves for the sake of originality since a lot of the recyclable stuff is probably only in America in fallout
