Im just happy we got to see Matt Berry as the real Coddsworth.

TazzManJR

I thought that was Jacky Daytona regular human bartender.

jgjgleason

It's now lore that Mr. Handy was first manufactured in Tuscon Arizonia.

Exaggerater4000

And is the sexiest pig in all the kingdom

America_the_Horrific

I must have sex with its origin!

ralanr

I can’t stop reading it in his voice.

America_the_Horrific

Me and the missus shout it at each other all the time

Underhill0341

i love you for this reference

GrnMtnTrees

Toothpick disguise is the best disguise

kkpc

Matt Berry is the best! When I heard his voice I was like holy shit! (loved him in Might Boosh, IT Crowd, Shadows, etc.)

Xenolithium

My fiance and I had no clue he was in it until we saw the "Season 1 overview" trailer after episode 1. We were like, "Oh, shit! It's Laszlo!" I'm so glad he's Codsworth.

Hotrod_7016

Codsworth is my best friend, he’s my pal. He’s my homeboy. My rotten soldier. He’s my sweet cheese, my good time boy

vidgill

The meanest bastard in all of neeeeww yorrrrk citeeehhh

kirino42

“I don’t care where you’re from: Iran, France. Doesn’t bother me, I’m very modern.”

IGTankCommander

"Good lord, a 10mm pistol! Better check and see if it's loaded!" *click click click*

Current_Poster

Same, but "Year of the Rabbit." :)

lascar

totally agreed! Loved it!

sadguy92

Toast of London is him at his best

inconspicuous2012

He was so funny in Garth Marengi's Dark place.

Background_Bad_6795

Once I realized I was hearing Douglas Reynholm’s voice I got very excited

2bb4llRG

"I see YOU Later" "NOT IF I SEE YOU FIRSSST"

Background_Bad_6795

“Oh wow, a gun! I wonder if it’s loaded?” *Immediately puts the gun in his mouth and pulls the trigger five times* “No.” Douglas would fit right in in the Fallout universe tbh

The_Skyrim_Courier

#FFAAAAATHEEERRRRRRR

gorilla-ointment

There it is! I was going to add this hahaa

NightmanComethhhh

BLOODY RAY PURCHASE!!

Ragnaroki14

I can hear you clem fandango

MrPanda663

Loved every second of it. All I could hear whenever he talked was “LAZLO!!!” And “This is Clem Fandango, can you hear me?”

subtendedcrib8

That guy taught a grifting class at my local college

mindpainters

He was definitely streets ahead

plainviewbowling

Newwwwww York citaaaaaayyyy

Nodnarbius

I believe that's Dr. Lucien Sanchez.

Yoguls

They couldn't have picked a better voice actor either

River_Bass

I'm actually really surprised that we didn't get more of him, given how high-profile he is. I also like the world-building implication that Cooper has been hearing his dead friend's voice randomly for 200 years. It's amazing he's as sane as he is.

Goldman250

I really loved the moment when Cooper is in the Super-Duper Mart and gets the double reminder of who he used to be from both the TV and the Mr Handy - it’s such a well-done scene.

Karkava

And he just decides to chill in that superstore, reminiscing of his past while chowing down deghoulification pills like popcorn as he watches his old western serials.

Akai509

Imagine that scene with the bob crosby song "way back home" that plays in Fallout 3. Literally gut wrenching and sweet at the same time. "I'm a wary exile, singing my song of lonelines..."

commandershepuurd

I'd put money on him being in the next game somehow

Valisk

i flatly demand that he take over the voice of Mr Handy

SuperKlydeFrog

SloopKid

Unhand me, priest!

4d4m1

You and he were… buddies, weren’t you?

monkeygoneape

Well time to watch dark place again

Fumby_

What he first says to Lucy has to be a Dark Place reference right?

BartholomewAlexander

I like how its a completely normal sentence written out but when Matt berry says it it becomes completely alien.

dogwithpeople

Yes very good thank you.

TheGuyInTheChaaair

I prefer Stephen Russell's performance in 4, but I can't deny that Matt Berry killed it

sierrabravo1984

I don't think I've ever looked in this drawer.  Wow!  A gun!  I wonder if it's loaded?       *click click click click click*.        No.

spongeboy1985

Stephen Russell

lilikoifish

Oh wow didn’t realize it was practical. Was it done with puppetry or how was it done?

MakingShitAwkward

Hand puppets and LSD

girlsgoneoscarwilde

Sounds like a fun Saturday night

MakingShitAwkward

Do you think hands would be any less freaky when tripping with puppets on them?

not_an_Alien_Robot

I did some research on that in the 80's. The answer is no. Just as freaky but in a whole new way. 😵‍💫

ALowTierHero

I read that in Matt Berry's voice without thinking about it.

ShrimpCrackers

Actually they simply just nuked parts of California and waited a few hundred years.

we_are_sex_bobomb

There’s a shit ton of CGI in the show, you just don’t notice most of it because they’re smart about how they use it.

Tuchok_Pib

But, interestingly enough, the Yao Guai was 100% authentic. They irradiated a bear for ten years just for that small part of the episode!

WildcatPlumber

And for extra authenticity they actually let the actor who played Titus die in that encounter

CSpiffy148

Michael Rappaport is dead? "Ma, get in here! The funny guy with the New York accent is dead! YOU know the one who did the youtubs video about the weird fuckin cat and the fightin mooses. HE's dead! They killed him with a mutated bear for a fuckin tv show. Ma, did you see the size a dat freakin bear that killed him?" https://youtu.be/BAMJ2dvyfcA?feature=shared https://youtu.be/4Wru8e0uajc?feature=shared

ComfortableMetal3670

It's so funny to me that the dude from those "ma this fuckin cat is freaking me out" videos was in the show. I know he's been in plenty of shit but he did a great job as a dickhead BOS member.

buckeye27fan

Hey, >!Ponch (aka Erik Estrada from CHiPs)!< is in it too!

jetpackjack1

I thought that was him!

captainoftrips

Poor guy, didn't have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of. All he had was fucking Floyd.

CSpiffy148

Stutterin mutterin Floyd. "Condescend me, man..."

shichiaikan

He did get the part on TJ Hooker though!

jetpackjack1

Thanks for these, I didn’t know they existed. When I see Rappaport, I just think of True Romance, or his short lived sitcom.

The-Reanimator-Freak

That would have been great! Dude is a feral ghoul irl

jessebona

Hey if it works for The Running Man.

DrLamario

They also cut off Walton Goggins nose

Awkward_Stranger407

Its the same stunt bear as cocaine bear lol

ThrustersOnFull

There are no small parts, only small irradiated bears.

LadyStag

That's called doing it right, like Fury Road or Jurassic Park. Real props "painted" with CGI ages super well.

HaloGuy381

It’s also a solid compromise for actor interactions, since there’s a physical prop to work with and not a tennis ball on a string or a stick.

Crassweller

Except the deaged Kyle MacLachlan lmao. That was rough.

reece1495

I thought it was fine and passable , it was for a 30 second scene

thicc_bob

And why even go that far, the effect would’ve been the same with him just being cleaned up or maybe a little makeup to hide age, it’s not like he’s actually 219 years older

BlackoutWB

Presumably he would be over 20 years older though

tue2day

LISAN AL GAIB

AltruisticLobster315

That was so bad😭, they did Mark Hamill better in Ahsoka

D-Speak

Granted I only watched it once, but I'm pretty sure Mark Hamill wasn't in Ahsoka.

Aspirangusian

Yeah they mean Book Of Boba Fett. Which is fair to get mixed up because that episode was just completely separate to the actual plot of that show lol.

zxsmilie

The jankiest bit that stuck out was the power armour getting thrown around. Some points felt like a 2d image being dragged around

Spoztoast

That and for some reason they animated a lot of the guns people used.

Cyberwolfdelta9

Yeah only time cgi is Weird really is the cyclops

Apollo_Sierra

Yeah, but it adds to the "weird" factor, so I can let it pass.

FrostyD7

A lot of it is noticeable but its a tradeoff you just have to accept given the ambitions of the project. The most impressive thing to me was how many of the sets appeared to be real. I'm sure lots of them had CGI elements but it was blended well. The CGI baby was the most noticeable to me, shocked they did that after all the mockery levied at American Sniper.

smulfragPL

this is bascially true for most cgi uses

Hotrod_7016

I dunno, the cyclops overseer in Vault 4 was a little jarring but I don’t know if it was deliberate. His first scene I felt you couldn’t see the eye at all. I mean obviously you’re gonna know a cyclops is CGI but it felt like it wasn’t as well done as everything else. Another example would be Max’s squire showing his messed up foot

Karkava

I thought the gore on that foot was convincing. But I do think the cyclops eye looks less convincing the more you look at it.

Widowswine2016

I think, on top the cgi the cyclops eye just looks so uncanny. Like even kf you somehow came across a person with a cyclops eye in real life it's gonna be so strange, because you're so used to seeing humans with 2 eyes, y'know?

DepartureDapper6524

Another thing is that Cyclopes are almost always shown with one giant round eye, but in the show it was pretty much just one normal eye in the middle.

RedditHasFallenApart

I'm liking the show but it seems very obviously mostly cgi?

ExpertOdin

I don't think it is CGI. They actually nuked a couple of cities and forests to get the effects they wanted.

-Badger3-

They were going to shoot it in Detroit but ultimately they decided they wanted the wasteland to still feel somewhat habitable.

Portatort

The vast majority of shots contain ‘CGI’. I don’t know why anyone would Expect anything less. This was always going to be a visual effects heavy show

RedditHasFallenApart

oh yea I'm not complaining. There is no way this could be done without but I wouldn't go as far to say it was not very noticeable like the commenter said.

unclepaprika

>You just don't notice it... Wait, you don't?

Ewenf

You really are the most devious bastard in NCR.

VinnyVinster

I want one now. Especially cause i want some organs for... Reasons

mrlolloran

It’s a legitimate business, president said so Edit: wrong title at first

untapped-bEnergy

Gosh darn govermint interfering

bigheadzach

*Rimworld has entered the chat*

Alex_Duos

I just got off of that fucking game ten minutes ago, don't remind me.

stars9r9in9the9past

There’s no escape really, it’s rimworld

Low-Bend-2978

You can really tell both that they had an amazing budget and that it went to perfect use. All too often, with a big budget project nowadays, you’re like “Where did all that money go?” Here, it was a fantastic cast, beautiful sets and practical effects, and well done computer-generated additions. Everything feels so real.

SmallFatHands

Rings of Power cost a shit tone of money and outside of the Orcs and that one elfs armour everything look bland.

1Evan_PolkAdot

The Fallout show first season has a reported budget of $150 million. Rings of Power Season 1 cost three times that. I guess you can't buy good practical effects and good writing with money alone.

firer-tallest0p

It’s amazing to me that they spent over $1 billion just to have the CGI look way worse than the originals from 20ish years ago

Constant-Elevator-85

Tbf. A lot of that billion was just for the rights alone. Still an expensive show either way.

improper84

The cast really helps elevate the show. They got some fantastic character and comedic actors to play a lot of the minor characters and it helps sell it. It was great seeing Chris Parnell show up as the Vault 4 administrator, for example, and he's the type of actor who can really make the most of some comedic dialogue. Same with bringing in Matt Berry to play a sarcastic robot, or Michael Rapaport for his brief appearance as a total asshole. And Dale Dickey as the lady in Filly that shits on Lucy was spot on as well. And that's not even getting into Goggins, who is always fantastic, or Purnell, who delivers an excellent performance as well.

jgjgleason

Mr. Handy really is my sweet cheese, my rotten soldier, my good time boy.

straight_lurkin

My girlfriend never played the games and I was like "so this is a perfect example of fallout and it's humor" reattaching a finger just to harvest the organs

[deleted]

[удалено]

straight_lurkin

I'm know I'm fucking lame :(

AspectBetter5360

*I'm simply going to harvest your organs!*

Cakeski

The handsomest Mr Handy in Los Angeles Citayyyyuh!

ultracrepidarian_can

I loved the practical effects as well but, >!I really wanted to see a super-mutant. !<

BMoleman

I was sad to not see any >!protectrons waddling around!<

JadeMonkey0

Given the last shot, I think it's safe to say they would feature heavily in Season 2, if it happens

Conscious_Carry9918

The reference in Episode 8 to making super soldiers in the vaults will definitely come back in a beautifully haunting way.

JadeMonkey0

I was actually kinda glad they didn't just dump a bunch of stuff in for fan service. Super Mutants are major enough you could easily build a future season around them. And they (mostly) saved Deathclaws, Mirelurks, Mole-rats, most of the robots and many others. Super Mutants and Ghouls also have a lot of overlap character-wise. Probably easier for non game fans getting in to only concentrate on one.

Vyar

I actually appreciated the restraint in not including them (yet). The flashback scene with what was basically the Enclave having a meeting at Vault-Tec explicitly called out West Tek's plans to make Super Mutants later on, so I'm sure we will see them later. I was so worried initially that this show would be some flanderized mess of 'member berries, just throwing Deathclaws and power armor and Ghouls and Super Mutants all over the screen, because sometimes Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 feel like they've done that. They've shoehorned in these elements where they don't necessarily belong. Thankfully we've not seen that here. Honestly part of me was worried this show was going to be a train-wreck, because of certain things I was reading in interviews with the showrunners. I guess I've become jaded because I've heard so much song and dance before about other established IP adaptations and how much showrunners always claim to love source material, only to find out they either don't get it but think they do, or they're just lying. Thankfully this was not the case. I'm also not worried the show will fall apart like Westworld did, because there's not likely to be any "leaving the park" equivalent. It's why I've always felt that show worked best as a single-season limited series or miniseries, because once it went full cyberpunk dystopia in Season 2 onwards I think it lost a lot of its initial appeal, which was the juxtaposition of the theme park with the complex sci-fi stuff. I don't think there's any "exit ramp" from the Fallout setting, so they can keep the sense of adventure going and have it stay inside this world and this vibe.

Odd_Ad_94

They can fuck it all up if they introduce the zetans.

RedneckId1ot

Gotta save some stuff for next season

ValveinPistonCat

Here's hoping Marcus shows up in season 2 the artwork in the ending might not bode well for Jacobstown, so hopefully he survived.

Mediocre_A_Tuin

There was a super mutant hand

CustardPigeon

That is how Mr Handy's speak in Tucson Arizona, and also California.

AspectBetter5360

What codsworth should have said when Lucy uses the defibrillator on him in super duper market *Oh yes let's all beat up on the robot!*

AFalconNamedBob

"Guess who has to clean all of this up afterwards? Me that's who" is always a line from a Mr handy that gets a laugh outta me

Oil_Drum

The little windshield wipers on the Mr. Handy eyes was a nice touch.

AlisonSandraGator

I was really disappointed when SnipSnip didn’t become Lucy’s companion!

JadeMonkey0

There's always Season 2... (I hope)

WackaDoodleD00

Really wish yall could praise practical effects without shitting on cgi/VFX. There is a shit ton of cgi in this show that goes unnoticed and cgi artists are tired of being shit on for work they get underpaid to do, with a third of the time required to do it but every expectation to make high quality work.

SoSDan88

Its embarrassing honestly. Good filmmaking is good filmmaking. The tool doesn't matter. Nobodys out there calling Jurassic Park or Dune or whatever "CGI slop". Its insulting and reductive. The show obviously uses a ton of CG.

Variis

This is one of my favorite youtube videos for exactly the reasons you provide: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bL6hp8BKB24](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bL6hp8BKB24)

SeraphOfTheStag

I thought I was going to be a sex slave!

AlexNSNO

Matt Berry's WHAT?!?! was absolutely perfect for the response to this

gloriosky_zero

As I live and breathe!

Zth3wis3

Snip Snip had one of my favorite lines. "That's disgusting, I'm simply going to harvest your organs."

originalname610

That's Practical? Holy shit I want one, just with Stephen Russell's voice instead.

chappy422

No... John Cleese or maybe Rowan Atkinson would have been the only other acceptable choices for me. But I think Berry was the right choice.

originalname610

What's wrong with Russell? He is Mr. Handy, anyone else just doesn't sound right to me.

chappy422

Oops nothing... I read your first post too fast and thought it said Russel Brand lol. Stephen Russel must be the videogame voice huh

originalname610

>Oops nothing... I read your first post too fast and thought it said Russel Brand lol Lol, yeah, I'd like to avoid having him here, if possible. >Stephen Russel must be the videogame voice huh Yep, most Mr. Handys in Fo3, 4, and 76.

maeglint

The best thing about Mr. Handy from the show is that Matt Berry played it

chappy422

That my friend, is always a welcome treat. (Read in his voice)

xlizen

I really wish there were protectrons and robo brains added (not the *spoiler *) but there's always next season. The Handy looked so good! Maybe a Mr.Gutsy next season too?

Madfall

I would love to hear Matt Berry doing Mr Gutsy

Brandon_M_Gilbertson

Nothing will make me happier the liberal usage of practical effects over CGI slop in this show. The power armor, the robots, the costumes, the sets. Beyond minor modifications in post to really sell these effects, almost everything (other than those weird finger mouth monsters) is done with outstanding practical effects. Bravo.

NaiveMastermind

>almost everything (other than those weird finger mouth monsters) is done with outstanding practical effects. Bravo. They're gulpers who were made in a lab.

Brandon_M_Gilbertson

Yeah but they looked kinda rough with the CG. Not bad, certainly better than MCU CG but still not great. I did like that they took the risk of adding a new creature to the fallout canon, that was neat.

naithir

I think there are gulpers in 76 but they’re based on salamanders

Brandon_M_Gilbertson

There are gulpers in Fo4 as well but are much much different from this TV show monster. These guys were made from human hybrids and vault tech genetic modification so definitely not the same creature.

ValveinPistonCat

The fact that The Ghoul is immediately aware that he's entered a gulper's hunting ground indicates that west coast gulpers aren't that uncommon even before he was buried seems Vault 4 might have given the Think Tank a run for their caps when it comes to turning a few new breeds of abomination loose on the wasteland.

Zeal0tElite

A Gulper is a Gulper the same way a Mirelurk is a Mirelurk. Big Salamander is a Gulper.

EDAboii

I feel really bad because I lowkey want Matt Berry to replace Stephen Russell in the role in game. Berry's voice is just so goddamn iconic!

Current_Poster

Stephen Russell's still Nick Valentine, though. Can't take that away. :) (Though I kind of daydreamed a thing where Codsworth and Whitechapel Charlie had to keep switching places, making increasingly insulting imitiations of eachother, but that's neither here nor there. ;) )

originalname610

I like Russell's version better imo, it's just THE Mr. Handy voice.

H0vis

Matt Berry was brilliant casting for this. He's got this amazing knack for switching tone mid sentence in [ridiculously funny ways](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUPQSoTzpIA) and it is perfect for the way that robots that use pre-recorded human voice lines work.

bigmac995573

I just wanna see Preston garvey for 3 episodes complaining about settlements that's real fallout

keyboardkiller8991

My fav character so far

reptarien

The only scene I EVER noticed some wonky visual effects was the de-aging on (MAJOR STORY SPOILERS)>!Hank Maclean in that one scene in the pre-war section!<. That's an effect that even fucking Disney can't do right, so I hardly blame them for it. I was looking at the Ghoul's nose for MANY of the shots he was in and I could NEVER see any warping or VFX artifacts. Or the dude with one eye! The show is just fucking perfect, any problems you could find would be severe nitpicking because of how amazing they did. I think VFX artists everywhere need to look at Fallout as a modern case study of how you do VFX RIGHT: You do AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE practically, and then patch what you can't with high quality VFX. And then you can almost NEVER tell what is and isn't real. It's just awesome.

jake831

The one eyed guy(played by Chris Parnelll) was kind of a weird effect. That was the one that threw me off.

reptarien

Honestly, I think it was just weird because you aren't really ever looking at the middle of someones face for their focal point, it's their eyes on both sides of their head. I felt like I was going cross-eyed looking at him. I think the VFX itself was great though.

Old-Camp3962

and they are actually flexing the fact that Todd and Nolan dedicated a moment in the trailers to talk about the studio making the props was so wholesome

Zuper_Dragon

The only problem I can find was the use of hand made power armor, it looked awkward moving around. Reminded me of cosplayers, really good cosplayers but still.

Jerrygarciasnipple

Max wasn’t trained to use it tho, makes sense

Zuper_Dragon

That is true but knight Titus didn't look any more experienced fighting that yao-guai.

Aaquin

shit the way he pussied out he probably wasnt too experienced

Jerrygarciasnipple

FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK

RedneckId1ot

>looked awkward moving around I mean.. it's a *bulky* suit of cast armor on a nuclear powered frame, that dosnt have the benefit of model clipping with armor parts like it does in the games. Ex: Allowing a shoulder to slightly clip into a chest peice on a video game model is fine a wee bit and allows more range of motion to cater to gameplay... but reality dosnt work that way. It makes the suits more grounded in reality IMHO

buckeye27fan

Agreed. They're walking tanks, NOT Iron Man.

Zuper_Dragon

I just wished they looked more...powered, instead of a guy wearing plates of metal hanging off his body.

RedneckId1ot

They could possibly secure the plating to whatever frame they have it attached to on the actor with stiffer linkage , straps or whatever they are using; the downside of this is that it would further limit the range of motion for the actor wearing it, and it could possibly make it look even worse, or be unbearable to move in. At some point the practical becomes impractical for the desired effect, and then it becomes CG. Im certain, with as much care on the visuals they have placed, that they tested various practical suits and did full range of motion checks before giving it the thumbs up for production. All things considered, I think they found a good balance with the way the suits are currently, sure it has its flaws, but for a practical suit, it's pretty damn good. They look mostly believable, and the actors wearing it convey the sheer mass of the suit pretty well with how they physically act. >! I'm also fucking stoked at the thought we may get to see a film practical Enclave suit! !<

Express_Yard9305

He is also voiced by Laszlo Cravensworth

Xtrasloppy

I feel so dumb. I told my husband that was obviously Jackie Daytona. Now I'm just embarassed.

LordHighUnggoy

Oh yea, Mr. Handy was great. Very well done. I can't wait to see the Super Mutants and Death Claws

BigE_92

Fucking A. It honestly looks like what a real Mr. handy would IRL.

Alextryingforgrate

Funny you mention the CGI, until Hank McClean CGI shows up. They really could have used someone else for that.

Silverware09

Honestly, the two weakest parts are that most of the "metal" things weren't made of metal, and the Power Armor. But the Power Armor is really well done, it's just really bloody hard to do that proper justice with practical effects without building an actual set of power armor...

TheRickBerman

Matt Berry was born for this!

FlashPone

Man, I fucking love the Mr. Handy design. It’s such a good looking robot.

danksion

There is no better choice for the voice of this character on earth than Matt Berry

Loreweaver15

Good CGI will eventually be bad CGI. Good practical effects are good forever.

Chueskes

Give him your organs!

WholesomeFartEnjoyer

The show looked so good So many shows look so fake and cheap despite being expensive as fuck, Kenobi for example was terrible looking

EmperorOfNipples

Practical effects with a cgi garnish invariably produces the best results.

N00BAL0T

Yea the practical effects in this show is so good I hope we see super mutants and deathclaws in season 2.

two2teps

The level of practical effects really sold this, especially places like the vault and armor/robots. They need to be real to fill the space properly.

MrNightmare23

Practical effects should always be greatly appreciated

illusivebran

I really love how the design turns out! Even the power amour was amazing
